Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects & Readers' Choice (December 2024)

Tott

What do some of the other readers think of RCT Classic on Switch?
I was (am) a big fan of the original PC game. I've actually played it within the last week. And that makes me hesitate. I'm curious what more people think of the Switch version... does it hold up? What are things you found good? Things that could be better?
Thanks in advance!

Re: It's Official, 'Switch 2' Will Be Backwards Compatible

Tott

@ROBLOGNICK
Maybe for local multi-system play? Similar to how 3ds could local with an og ds and game. Seems like it should, but just being able to play something from last gen doesn't necessarily mean it can directly communicate with last gen hardware.

Not a feature I can even remember using. But hey, more accessibility is always a good thing!

Re: Soapbox: The Next Pokémon Game Should Rework Old Critters, Not Just Add Dozens More

Tott

I'd like to see more eeveelutions - round out the types. But I don't think cross types, as someone mentioned here. Then it gets too "where to we draw the line?" Just stick to one of each type.

Beyond that, is what it is. I already find myself too comfortable in what I know. I have to try to create/use new teams each game cause I otherwise fall into the trap of what I already know.

One way to fix (though sure, recently you could technically go anywhere in any order) the falling into old habits would be having all new mon available early on and returning mon later game. I don't mean as drastic as Black and White. But if I couldn't catch something familiar until after 5 or 6 badges, I'd be far more likely to stick to a new team.

Mini rant alert: that was a tough part with even gen 2. The likes of larvitar, houndour, slugma, sneasel, murkrow, etc. only being available post game was a shame. Let me build a whole new team I've never seen before early on to take on the journey. And then deal with catching my 500th Pikachu or geodude in the post game. I know there were some new available earlier, but I listed some of the cooler new mon there. Trapped post game is a shame.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Costs $60 On Switch

Tott

I'm sure it's in part a voucher thing. Makes those that go the voucher route think they're getting a deal when in reality Nintendo is squeezing another sale out of you by forcing the pair for $100. I'm sure they're plenty happy getting $50 for their titles.

Re: Random: Sakurai Likens Boss Battles In Nintendo Games To Tutorials

Tott

How about both? Where the defined strategy could simply be more effective?
I'm thinking of Zelda where it can be a do X-then-Y-then-Z and you'll do damage. Repeat 3-6 times and boom you've won. If such a sequence means you do say 18-30% damage of the boss, then how about other attacks doing significantly less?
This would leave the defined strategy to still have that success, but allow someone that maybe can't get the timing, etc., just right another option to grind it out.

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?

Tott

I don't think even the money and sales figures of third versions makes an argument anymore. While I have done zero research to back this up, I'd say the DLCs of recent gens sold plenty enough to cover that gap. The less expensive DLC that's available for both games is more in the "heck, why not" price range to attract more players than a full priced new game.

For the record, I don't mind the two versions still. It gives reason to trade with a friend or stranger to complete the dex. I don't see it going away for the mainline games.

Re: Pokémon Presents Announced For 27th February 2024

Tott

@sanderev
If that's true, I'd be on board for it. But I'd hope it includes both regions, as Gen 2 did. Made based on Crystal would be fun. The mechanics of Let's Go were a bit gimmicky, but it was still fun to revisit Kanto with a fresh coat of paint. A certain egg pokemon would be a good cover 'mon, too.

Re: Yes, Nintendo Is Aware Of Palworld's Existence

Tott

I've been playing the game and so far enjoying it. I'm not sure how I feel about some assets being quite similar to TPCs. There have been others lately that use Nintendo success to draw in an audience. I'm not saying it's fine cause "everyone's doing it," as again I'm not sure how I feel about it.

In the end I spent the $40 already so I'm gonna keep playing the game. And if the first while has any indication, I'm gonna keep enjoying it.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Version 3.0.0) New Character Stats & Balance Changes Revealed

Tott

Ignorant question allert:

Is there more to the character stats than what vehicle size they use? I'd flip through the characters and see how big the kart looked compared to others and think "ok they're heavier, etc." but this makes it seem different. Can there be a light or medium character that uses a large kart? Where's a good resource for this information?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

Tott

I was really hoping this would happen... but animated. And I don't mean Mario Movie like, but more like the Spider-Verse style. Animation just lends itself it be more versatile.
Really hoping this goes well, but at the same time I was hoping for a different direction. If anything makes me feel better, I think Nintendo would scrap it completely if they felt it wasn't good, rather than release a subpar movie. Can't wait for all my doubt to be washed away with an awesome trailer.

Re: Nintendo Reveals "Positive Impact" The Mario Movie Had On Mario's Game Sales

Tott

So even announcing a Zelda movie should bring enough hype to drive sales of a WWHD/TPHD release, right?? I'll die on this hill.

But to the Mario point, this is fantastic. I wouldn't say it's driven me to purchase more than I would have already, but I'm certainly finding more enjoyment in Mario again. To see such an impact on sales though means good things for future projects. Good things all around!

Re: Talking Point: Which Version Of Super Mario Bros. 3 Do You Prefer?

Tott

My answer feels familiar so a similar question must have been asked recently... maybe Mario 1? Anyways:

My vote went to SNES, because I prefer the downward angle between Y to run and B to jump - it just feels more natural. However, I must admit I play the GBA version more often because of the portability. GBA SP all day. Love me a clamshell handheld console, still use my SP or 3DS more than the Switch in handheld mode.

Re: Best Disney Nintendo Switch Games

Tott

Pretty rough that even #1 on the list couldn't crack a score of 8. Don't get me wrong, 8 should be a pretty darn great game. Tho technically correct as is, it just seems like a "Best of" list should probably have a great game on it.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Another 'Greatest Games' List

Tott

This tracks. While I can't deny how impressed I was with ToTK scope, physics, etc., it was a bit expected coming from BoTW as a base. The sheer shock and awe of BoTW on release will be difficult to replicate going forward. It was such a shift in direction and leap in performance.
