Re: 3DS And Wii U Online Play Ends In "Early April 2024"

Tott

@Mauzuri @Waluigi451
For the foreseeable future, last paragraph.
I personally thought this ended when the eshop ended, so neat bit of news there for me.

Edit: sorry, friends. I must have caught that oh so brief period between y'all posting and the article update.

Re: Mailbox: Missing Zelda Ports, Nerd Rage, 16-Bit Blowback - Nintendo Life Letters

Tott

@StuTwo
Counter point #1 - If they did it once, what's to stop them from doing it again?
Counter point #2 - We're not looking for another remaster to be done, we're simply looking for a port of the existing remaster. So the WiiU would be the only "remaster."

Thoughts? I just never had a WiiU so I'm pleading for these to be done. You can skim my comments, I likely sound very whiney over the past couple years. And I'm okay with that. For Wind Waker.

Re: Video: Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & GBA)

Tott

I didn't even realize this was a GBA remake. Honestly, and I'm sure someone has said it, I wish they'd have just put this on nso. If you're going to be remaking games, do the bigger ones that won't make it to an online service (GC, Wii, WiiU). I wasn't high on the game to begin with, but now I'm a bit disappointed.

I'm sure plenty of people are excited and will enjoy it. I just personally think they could have spent time elsewhere. (And yes, I see the style is very much Mario movie style so they're looking to capture a new audience that weren't gaming in the GBA days. Still my opinion though).

Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

Tott

Another 3 year old email causing a stir. Is this still their mindset? We don't know. But I don't doubt this was part of a brainstorm at some point. It makes too much business sense (in their model of takeovers) to not be at least discussed.

We all are confident enough that it won't happen, no need to get in a huff about it.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?

Tott

Disappointed, I must say. To have as many ports from the WiiU that we do, and even diving into the GameCube library now and to still not have WW and TP on Switch? Disappointed. It should be a no brainer. Should have been a Zelda anniversary combo.

Re: Pokémon Company's COO Addresses Issue Between Release Schedule And Game Quality

Tott

@wouldyoukindly
I'm with you there. I currently have new (slow going) play throughs of emerald, crystal, and soul silver. Gen 4 to me was peak. But yes even the pixel art of gen 3 or prior is brilliant. And the way they do the 2.5D art now?! Sign me up. I don't care it if doesn't look great on a big screen, I'm good with handheld.

I've said it before with the Zelda series too — let's get some variety and mix in a smaller title between the larger scope (more time in the oven) big screen games. Key there is more time in the oven.

Re: Pokémon Company's COO Addresses Issue Between Release Schedule And Game Quality

Tott

I feel like I was in the minority, but I didn't think I experienced a whole lot of technical issues when I was playing through the game. I think purchased after the first patch? However, yes of course there were some issues but nothing that was enough to take away my enjoyment.

However, since then, I'm not sure if it's because I was playing ToTK or ScVi subsequent patches actually made things worse. Each raid I've gone back to play seems worse than the last. I won't see the raid pokemon, sometimes my allies pop in and out, I won't get the chance to even choose an action for so long about a quarter of the time bar goes away, and then sometimes they just end.

This is worse than just getting used to better quality from ToTK and coming back. These things genuinely seem to have gotten worse after their "fixes." That is a problem.

Just spend the time making it proper to begin with. Honestly, I'd rather another polished top-down style game than another ScVi. Even though, again, I enjoyed when I played the story... they somehow made it worse. Anyone else find this?

Re: Poll: Super Mario All-Stars Is 30 Years Old - Do You Prefer The NES Or SNES Versions Of The Classics?

Tott

SNES for me. And it's actually mostly because of the control. The downward angle from Y to B or X to A I found far more comfortable. It's for that reason even the GBA versions of the games, which otherwise I'd probably say are the best, don't quite get it with the necessary upward angle from "run" to "jump."

For the record I still play them most on GBA because the SP is the perfect little console with an amazing library.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch

Tott

Couldn't they release a sensor bar that just usb plugs into the doc?
It doesn't need to be for everything, but for those that want that IR precision, they could get the bar and control? Options are always nice. Doesn't need to be a required or packaged in item, but an option for those that might want it.

Re: Switch Online N64 Controller Restocks Coming Later This Week

Tott

Last time they were in stock for North America I was able to log on in time... however, nothing I "add to cart" has ever actually gone to my cart. Not just the N64 controllers, anything. Even submitted help requests and gotten nothing. Can't believe I missed out on these because of a dang technical issue. Can't even buy a t-shirt.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Squeeze Another Zelda Game Out Of TOTK's Open World?

Tott

I'd like smaller games too, though. I'd come back sure. But still it be another 5-6 years to return to a familiar (with new parts) Hyrule?
The handheld systems provided opportunity to do smaller projects along the way. Being a hybrid system, I'd like to see the Switch (& 2) continue this. Sprinkle in some smaller adventures and get a little weird with some mechanics along the way. Otherwise we're talking over a decade of really the same base Hyrule. And don't get me wrong, I'm constantly impressed with the new aspects and am loving how the new devices lend opportunity to tons of new puzzles...
I guess I'm saying I'd return for a third pass, but let's have another adventure in there too. Handheld size is fine ~20hr.

Re: Feature: 7 Things From Zelda: TOTK's First Hours That Had Us Grinning Like Mad

Tott

So many things. The first couple big dives really drove home the scope of the game. But that first glide... I happened to be right in the center of it so I was "flying" straight and off mark. So I intuitively thought, well if I shift slightly this way, I should veer right, right?
The physics they put into this game, and the realistic (still a game but hear me out) way every "if I do this, then that should happen" thought comes to fruition blows me away. Every time I try something new and it goes as expected. Pure brilliance.

Re: Soapbox: If Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Isn’t Switch’s Swan Song, It Really Should Be

Tott

Neat thought. But for me the games are about getting lost in the environment, not literally being able to find a needle in a haystack because of the high powered graphics.

I'd hope someone else has said it already, but in the limited time I've played ToTK so far, I have been completely swept away in it. And I couldn't tell you any other game since BoTW to do that — no matter how many pixels it has. Making something look damn near real doesn't make it better.

There was recently an article with highest rated games ever and top 3 being Nintendo Switch titles tells ya I'm not alone in thinking so.

Re: PSA: Pokémon Bank Is Now "Free To Use" On Nintendo 3DS

Tott

Soon they'll acknowledge the issues with the recent "release" of this now free software and say they're working toward a fix and drip feed updates over the coming months-to-a-year until the Scarlet Violet DLC is released all buggy and focus switches to that.
And this guy will wish things were different even though I'll still purchase the DLC. Part of the problem, blah blah I know.
Hopefully it all works out.

Re: Talking Point: Which Gaming Moments Made You Question Your Intelligence?

Tott

Well when Skyward Sword HD came out it was a no brainer for me to get. I never owned a Wii so I missed out on this one (and TP so bring on the TP/WW HD please) and knew I wanted to try.
When you get to fly for the first time, I couldn't figure out how to fly higher. As I couldn't stop descending, I eventually got stuck in the clouds and the game was giving me pity help by flashing the controls on the screen for me. After probably 5 minutes of trying exactly what the screen was telling me to, I was getting frustrated and threw my arms up in the "well wtf I give up" sort of way... and I started to ascend... Turns out I wasn't exaggerating the control movement enough to make a real difference. I was a bit ashamed that a core movement of the game sort of stumped me, even when it was telling me what to do on the screen.
Now you're all my secret keepers.

Re: Soapbox: As A Colour Blind Gamer, I Can Now Finally Beat Metroid Prime

Tott

When you pointed out 1 in 12 men, and then simply skimming the comments and seeing as many people saying they're colour blind as well, damn that opened my naive mind. I never knew it was as common (sure, probably to varying degrees) as it is. Makes me more annoyed Nintendo isn't more on top of this and including these accessible options in all games. Really have the potential to be alienating a solid chunk of their audience.

But! Glad these features are coming around in more mainstream games, and happy to hear you have an opportunity to "right a wrong" from your childhood and finish the game!

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Temporarily Listed On Nintendo Website For $70 USD

Tott

Well if this is true, that is a bit unfortunate. But I'm really curious what retailers that have been offering preorders for the last 5~6 months will have to say about it. I guess that's the risk they take, but to suddenly have to sell a $70 usd game to a whole lot of people at $60 is going to hurt. Communication breakdown there.

Hopefully it'll be available for the vouchers?
