Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At The New Open World In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

Tott

The whole "battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them" piece could still be fine, so long as the keep the battling similar to PLA. I don't mind entering battle to catch, provided it's seamless, no loading a separate screen, battle animations, etc. Now that they've made the wild pokemon battles this way, I don't see how they go back. It's much more streamlined and removes that grinding feel.
I'd still enjoy that if it's needed for catching — wouldn't take away from the gameplay (in my opinion).

Looking forward to it!

Re: Video: Check Out 13 Minutes Of Pokémon Legends: Arceus Gameplay

Tott

I do feel better after watching this. Still have some questions and don't think I'll go preorder, but I'm more optimistic about the game. Still want to see some reviews and a bit more about the gameplay.

Being so different from the mainline is a nice change, but I need to know what I'm getting into for $90

Re: Talking Point: Could 'Mario Kart 9' Be The Smash Bros. Ultimate Of Racers?

Tott

Apologies if someone else has said it, there are a lot of comments already...

Mario Kart Maker.

With similar content updates like mario maker 2 had. Add new course elements, characters, etc. But also have a story mode that gives you ideas on how/what to incorporate into your builds — again, like mario maker. And then of course the online share ability for your courses or cups. Even if it is in the style of super nintendo or n64 to better allow for the customizations, I'd be all over this.

Dare to dream, but that'd be fantastic.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Gets A New Six-Minute Overview Trailer

Tott

I don't know... The graphics just in that video seemed so random? Like sometimes you could see textures in a tree moving with the wind, while other times it just looked like a Bob Ross painting, and others it was clearly missing some shadows.

Just give me some consistency, and bump the main focal points, for me anyways.

By that I mean I could live with some less than polished trees if the people and such were looking better. Or I guess as a Pokemon game, maybe some more attention to the surroundings with cartoony people and Pokemon, as that would somewhat make sense in the world.

I just don't know. It all seems random and awkward to me. As much as I want to want it, I'll be waiting for reviews and more gameplay detail. It's not an auto-buy for me.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Pokémon Game Ever?

Tott

Gen 2 is by far my favourite gen. That being said, HGSS are the best games for me. Expanding the content, fresh coat of paint, and the new mechanics (att/def being physical, while spa/spd were non-physical) that made way more battle sense.

To me, unfortunately, HGSS became the bar. And in my eyes they've failed to hit it again.

Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback

Tott

@Kiwi_Unlimited
Interesting — thank you for explaining!
It seems like the more likely "increase all pokemon by 2-3 level" option would be simple. Which in combination with a toggle exp share could in itself be a decent increase to difficulty. The ai portion, or general algorithm, I see could be much different.

If they could do a blanket update (assuming the current code is across all foes and an IFTT style) to have an "if player pkm health <15% then attack move 90% status 10% or whatever, that could help. But still, I am not trying to propose any crazy drastic changes to mechanics.

My whole point was I hope there's a relatively easy way to increase the difficulty if the player desired. And you've made it sound like that is likely possible without months of additional work — so thank you!

Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback

Tott

I never got into coding or anything so honest question here that hopefully someone can answer:

How difficult would it be to add two options — exp share toggle, and two difficulty modes (thinking casual and master)?

The difficulty difference could be as simple as increasing all trainer pkm levels by a couple, or changing the odds of certain moves being used (eg when your HP is in the red and your foe uses growl, I mean come on!). Or even both?

Those seem so subtle but would vastly change the experience for some of the pokemon masters that have been playing for decades. Yet dont need to be turned on or selected to allow casual or new players to just play and breeze through.

Anyone with that sort of coding or developer knowledge, please comment. I'm honestly asking, as someone with no idea what it would take.

Re: Zelda: BotW, Super Mario 64 And Pokémon GO Shortlisted For The Golden Joystick 'Ultimate Game Of All Time' Award

Tott

I love me some Zelda... but nope.
My personal top would probably be Super Mario World. Good length, straight forward controls and gameplay, and a very impressive technical leap at the time.

However!
Tetris - 100%. Easy concept (for all audiences), easily adaptive controls if required (for all audiences), and seriously timeless as all generations still enjoy it to this day (for all audiences).

A game that has lasted and thrived for this long that can be enjoyed by any and all gamers, with such accessibility and inclusion, needs to be crowned. Even if the notion of a single best game ever just does not compute — in my mind.

Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer' Is Generating A Lot Of Dislikes

Tott

If mega drive games licensing actually is a driving factor of the pricing, why include it? Sure it's nice to see, but the main things I (personally) want to play on my nintendo console are nintendo games. They probably could have gone N64 and GC and had a far better reception at a lower price. Or even just N64.
It's too much of a jump for me. But who knows, I'm sure enough people will buy that Nintendo comes out looking like a genius anyways. Things wont change.

Re: Feature: Steven Spohn On Strides In Accessibility For Gaming, And Nintendo's Room For Improvement

Tott

Another great interview and article highlighting some continued issues.
Bit of a shame to see some of the negative feedback in the comment section here. Accessibility is a good thing.
Even if that's difficulty modes, it's giving the player the choice - ie you dont need to lower it if that's what you like about the game. More options open to more gamers/ buyers translates to more sales, increased profits, and therefore increased likelihood of them putting out more games. With more accessible choices and options in games, nobody loses.

Re: Feature: How Accessible Are Zelda, Pokémon And Animal Crossing For Blind Gamers?

Tott

@Clarice
Haha fair enough 😅
And you're very correct, things change incredibly quick. Honestly any description followed by "person" or alike will be disrespectful to some, as things are heading toward person-first terminology. i.e. person with a disability/ who is blind.
But thank you, I appreciate the respectful back and forth here (while yes, we have gone on a tangent).
Accessibility and inclusivity is on the rise, and that's what really matters here. Cheers.

@Arkay
Just give it a quick google search, you'll find a number of things. Clarice rightfully mentioned how things change so dang fast, but that term has been outdated a little while now. (Maybe timing is different around the world — but in Canada it's been a while)

Re: Feature: How Accessible Are Zelda, Pokémon And Animal Crossing For Blind Gamers?

Tott

@Clarice
Not looking for an argument here, but just wanting to clarify... I used the term "able bodied" as it truly is a category, be that as a gamer, athlete, or human. As we are all human, and I dare to guess on this website gamers, but beyond that some are able bodied and some are disabled. That's all I was getting at.

But on the topic of refraining from using terms, I hope we can all agree "handicapped" is derogatory and shouldnt be used in any of its forms... Not you, Clarice, but I've seen it in the comments here.

Re: Feature: How Accessible Are Zelda, Pokémon And Animal Crossing For Blind Gamers?

Tott

This was a fantastic article, thank you for sharing, NL.
As an able bodied gamer, I ignorantly rarely have thought about the accessibility of games beyond the adaptive controllers. I am glad to hear/read that Nintendo is already on its way to making its games more accessible, even if some features may be "accidental". The biggest game-changer it seems, from these reviews, would be a text to speech option. I hope this is something that Nintendo could release as part of a system update that would work on the main menus as well as within software.

Thanks for sharing, and bringing some focus back on the not too often talked about issue of accessible gaming. Here's hoping accessibility becomes more mainstream, in all facets of life.

Re: New Poké Lids Highlight Gardevoir And Alolan Dugtrio

Tott

I know the market is on a whole other level in Japan to justify these types of things... but I'd love to see some of these in Canada. To what end, I dont know. I'll buy all the games regardless. But just seeing one of these covers in person would make me so happy (without having to fly to Japan).

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In July 2021 (Europe)

Tott

@Tandy255
Thanks for finding that and clarifying!

This makes it more impressive in my eyes, seeing some of these old(er) games continuing to be in the tops list. I'd be somewhat interested to see sales volumes with these too. As being top 10 in a slow week (or top 10 when only 1-3 really flew off the electronic shelves) could be deceiving. But either way, impressive. I'm just starting to nitpick now.

Re: Round Up: The Mario Golf: Super Rush Reviews Are In

Tott

@Bret
Agreed, day one grab. As a fan of the series, I probably would have been fine with even what's included in the base game. Sure, more would (will) be great, but I would have still bought it. Now with already announced free dlc — it's a no brainer for me, personally. 👍
