I never liked the Zelda games, but being as objective as possible... I think they look really good. About as close as you can expect to get, and the costumes look great.
I decided to buy this game for my PS4. Being that I wanted a physical copy, but Sega of America decided to go digital only for the PS4, I bought a European import. It wasn't until I opened it and saw the card about more characters, vehicles, and tracks coming soon that I realized I may have goofed. I'm not sure I can get any of that being that I have an "out of region" copy. I'm not big on crossover characters... Why is a Yakusa guy in a Sonic game? But I would like to get additional tracks. And responding to the last poster @calbeau, I honestly thought they did beat Mario Kart with AST on Wii U. That game was amazing.
@the_beaver I played through VIII which I absolutely loved, and X which was good, just not as good as VIII. I think I might buy IX because while I'm not sure how much of an upgrade Proud Nordics is getting (stupid name, by the way), I'm really not interesting in playing an upgrade.
This may be lame to admit, but I've always liked Bubsy. One of my friends had the original, and I loved it. I had an Atari Jaguar, so I bought Fractured Furrytales. At the time I thought it was decent, but it is almost painful to play now. I never played Bubsy 3D, which is probably a good thing. But I have both the new games on PS4 (Woolies Strike Back and Paws on Fire) and I unironically enjoy both. That said, considering how poorly the Jaguar game has aged, I'm not sure I really want to revisit the other old games. My fond memories might be ruined.
I'm not one to demand the best graphics possible... But these hobbits are hideous! If this were on the Wii, the fuzzy, blurry graphics would protect us from the nightmare fuel.
@The-Chosen-one It's an action RPG. Nordics is a really good game, but I would actually recommend YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (released on the original Switch). Game play is pretty similar, but I'd give the edge to VIII. The story is definitely better in VIII. While both games center around a female character, the one in X has too much "OMG, princess, you're the bestest ever!" going on for my tastes.
One thing I'm still waiting to see, is there much new content in this game? The low price everyone is raving about actually has me nervous. Is it that cheap because they're just recycling NEO again?
I'm actually worried about that low price. I was hoping Fast Racing would evolve into a full featured game. RMX was close, except as the name implies, it was mostly recycled content from NEO on Wii U. What I was hoping for would have cost probably $40. At $15, it's either going to be a bare bones game, or they're just rehashing NEO... again.
I hope this is good. I absolutely loved Sonic Racing Transformed on Wii U. But Sonic Team Racing was one of those games that I can't really explain why, but I just didn't really like it. Nothing was obviously wrong with it, but I just did not get into it.
@Solomon_Rambling On consoles that have "social media aspects" (Mii-verse on Wii U and the activity feed on Playstation), it makes sense so you can get a photo with carefully posed characters and without the HUD. But on Switch, I couldn't care less. Sure, you can transfer photos to outside social media, but I tried the Switch related FaceBook groups, and it's just not the same as a platform tied directly to the console.
This game was beautiful, probably the most impressive game on Wii U. But my God, this game was boring! Playing it felt like work, but without any sense of satisfaction of getting anything accomplished.
@garfreek I actually saw that video. At the time, his review was fair based on what was on the cart. But he had a physical copy, so unless his copy for some reason didn't have the note about the forthcoming DLC, he should have at least mentioned it. And I wish Squire games would have just finished the game in time to put all of it on the cart. I'm just thinking in the future when someone picks up this as a collector's item and may not be able to access the DLC.
I watched people play and review the Japanese PS5 version of this game (its Japan release was several months ago). Their opinion was very positive, although not exactly "rave reviews." Since I have a Switch and PS4 Pro, I pre-ordered the PS4 version. I wouldn't have minded getting it for Switch, but since I haven't seen any footage of the Switch version to see how well it runs, I decided to play it safe.
@garfreek I bought a physical copy of the game when it first came out. And it's true, you could play through the campaign in about 15 minutes (although knowing it was short, I only played it on hard, and it probably took two hours of many failed attempts). That said, what they guy in that video failed to mention was there was a message in the box that said there was more content coming through free DLC. And they did release the DLC, bringing up the length of the game to a few hours, and add several more to unlock and beat all the bonus levels. Considering the physical cost $35 (I think, it's been a while), you could compare it to something like Fire Emblem and say it's still light on content. But keeping in mind that this was an indie game that launched in the middle of Nintendo shutting down 3DS production, I think what you get is reasonable.
@Joriss It's been a long time since I played any of these games, but I do remember thinking AAI was a big step up from Apollo Justice. In my opinion, AJ had by far the worst writing and cast of characters. My only real complaint against AAI was that the chemistry between Miles and his sidekick (can't remember her name) fell flat. I wish they had cut her from the game and just had Gumshoe be the sidekick. My favorite element of the original three games was the shenanigans between Miles and Gumshoe.
@Zuljaras I think it's just a case of it's talked about so much, if you're not into it, you get tired of hearing about it. I feel the same way about SSB. I think it's merely OK but after several years of hype, and articles every time Sakurai releases a screen shot... Well, I guess I feel the same way as the Minecraft haters.
I have Ys VIII on Switch and was really happy with it. For multiple reasons although mainly because I just wasn't ready to return to the franchise so quickly, I skipped IX. This wasn't really a deciding factor, but I heard the Switch port didn't run great. I'm definitely buying X, but since I have a PS4 Pro, and this game is still getting a PS4 version, I may defect to that system (I'm probably never buying a PS5). Honest truth is, my Switch very rarely leaves its dock, and I'd rather have the better graphics. Nintendo needs to get their new system out already! I didn't mind as long as PS4 was an option, but publishers are starting to drop that system.
I know, different country, different rules. But as an American reading about this, keeping in mind he didn't seem to do anything threatening with his fake fantasy sword, four months in jail seems insane! But then again, I live in a state were everyone's carrying guns.
@The_Flume Maybe I just had bad luck, because my sample size is one. But I've had more trouble with my Wii U than any other console I've ever owned. To be fair, some of the problems have been with the gamepad, and on any other console, swapping controllers wouldn't be a problem.
I'm surprised they didn't use this article to simp one more time for Star Fox Zero. A lot of writers just can't accept that it was a bad game. The one game on this list I would love an expanded port (wouldn't buy it if there's nothing new beyond a graphical upgrade) is Excite Bots. I love that game! Of course I'd be even happier if they made an all new Excite Bots 2.
@Crecca Maybe they're holding that back hoping it will help sell 2600+ and physical copies. One upside of one of my more dubious uses of my money, I was able to buy it as a download for the (new) VCS.
I was hoping they'd add the Jaguar game Battlemorph. It's the sequel to Cybermorph, so I'm sure they have the rights to it. While Cybermorph has become a symbol for how disappointing the Jaguar was. It wasn't the most fun game ever to be sure, but it was OK and being able to fly freely in open worlds in 1993 actually was kind of amazing. All that said, Battlemorph improved on absolutely everything. It actually was a really good game, so it's a shame they're not adding it. Even for collectors, it was one of the few Jag CD games, so if you want to play it, you'd have to find a working CD unit which are rare and VERY expensive.
In any of the cases were the original was on DS, and they made an upgraded 3DS port, I only have the original. I'm surprised to see the originals higher on the list than the 3DS ports. Where they really better, or are the 3DS ports taking a hit because they're remakes? And I got to say, I would rank SMTV (not Vengeance, never played it) below several of the others. I still like the game, but I thought Strange Journey and IV were better.
@TYRANACLES I'm OK with seven boards if there is additional modes that help fill out the game. I know most people aren't fans of Mario Party 10 (I kind of liked it), and it only had five boards. But the Bowser Party mode really changed how the game worked. And then there was the Amiibo mode that, while it just had unimaginative square boards, it was also designed so skill actually mattered. So back to the upcoming game, hopefully it is seven boards plus... Something.
I hope more companies start rediscovering color. I guess this is being annoyed over nothing, but the minimalist, colorless logos everyone has gone with in the last few years, just seems soulless.
I see people saying, "Atari should buy Coleco too!" But I'm not sure what they'd really get out of that. The Colecovision was impressive for its time, but it was also cursed by timing. It came out so close to the video game crash, it didn't have time to build up a library of games like the Intellivision did. I can think of a lot of games Atari gets access to by taking over Intellivision, but I can't think of any Colecovision games except licenced arcade ports.
@MorganaBus I suppose this is my fault for reading the Daily Mail, but they recently ran several articles about her. And like you, my thought was, "This is still news?" And that's also how I feel about new IP added to Fortnite.
Fortnite is like JLo. I don't have a strong opinion, they're just not something I care about. But my god, do I get tired of seeing headlines about them! Fortnite getting yet another IP is about on the same level as a Daily Mail article about JLo walking down the street in sweat pants.
I wonder, are you supposed to like the main female character in this game? Somehow, the ship's AI, which repeatedly demonstrates it sees no value to human life has more charm and likability than that woman.
I have this and the sequel Deliver us Mars. I loved this game, but the sequel... Not so much. I'd recommend Deliver us the Moon, but be content to stop there.
When I saw the headline, I was expecting them to be showing off a collection of 3DS systems. I was really hoping to see Krysta showing off a huge collection of colorful, pristine 3DS's, then Kit holds up a battered, half destroyed 3DS with the buttons falling off, "This is mine... Yup, works fine!" Was my imagination driven by gender stereotypes? Maybe. But it would still be funny.
I kind of wish games would stratify to different price points. The idea that such a broad variety of games fell under the $60 price point always struck me as artificial. If a game is a massive project, big budget and provides a ton of gameplay, it seems like it should cost more (also assuming no micro transactions). I'm going to go into old man mode and talk about "Back in my day..." Back around 1990, the price of games varied quite a bit. And when a new game came out with a high price tag, we all thought, "Ooh, it must be really special. I WANT IT!" Of course the price was tied to the expensive memory chips cartridges used, not the overall development budget. It's not like we enjoyed spending extra money, but it was seen as the game had extra value reflected in the price. Of course big budget doesn't necessarily mean quality, we can all name many examples of developers spending a huge amount of money only to release a bigger pile of trash.
This is a slight improvement over the atrocious design of the original. I know this might upset some people, but I HATED the protagonist in the original, both the look and the absolute nothingness of being a "silent protagonist." Sure, all the SMT games have a silent protagonist, but in other's I've played, I get some sense of who this person is by the other characters around him. Not so much in this game. But as much as I didn't like the character design, truth be told, it doesn't really impact my overall opinion of the game.
Just to get away from Nintendo, how is Master Chief lower than that guy from Hitman? I had no idea his name was "Agent 47" until I read this article. I know Hitman was a big game, but more than Halo? Press X to doubt.
I'm focusing on playing the Wii U games that still have people playing: Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Just tried Wii Sports Club and sadly, no one's playing.
I'm glad to hear this is very different from 13 Sentinels. I'm still trying to convince myself it's worth finishing that game, but there's little beyond the artwork I actually enjoy. But this looks promising.
I really loved this game on the 3DS. Although it is a pretty simple RPG and with this being a port, I don't see any benefit of getting it on Switch for those that already played the original. Also, it's storybook style graphics looked great with the stereoscopic 3D effect. But for those who missed it on the 3DS, I think it's gameplay and combat system are great, but just be ready for a lot (and I mean A LOT) of grinding and minimal story.
@LikelySatan I was starting to think I was crazy. Everyone gushes about how great the Galaxy games are, but to me, they're Super Mario Bad Camera Adventure.
For my own favorite, I went with 3D World. I probably enjoyed Odyssey more during my first play through, but 3D World is the game I find myself returning to replay.
I just finished the first game, and I hate to say this, but I'm really disappointed. I had Trace Memory on DS, and they cut a lot from the remake that really neutered the story. I'm guessing some sensitivity writers got their hands on it because the darkest parts of the story are what got cut and it kind of ruins the overall history and tragedy of the family on Edward Island.
I'm not really far enough to give it a score, but I loved the DS game and I think I'll enjoy this remake. The voice acting is really annoying. The delivery of the lines is generally good enough. It's the nonverbal vocalizations that drive me insane. All the "ah, oh, hmm" and heavy breathing. I can't stand how they think they can't allow any silence when they make these games. It's like if Ashley is looking at a puzzle, but she doesn't let out an loud "Um," we won't know it's a puzzle.
I bought the new VCS that came out a while ago. I'm not at all surprised it didn't sell well, given its high price and identity crisis. However, I have been enjoying it for a kind of unexpected reason. With the Switch and Playstation e-shops being a never ending fire hose, I barely even look at the indie games because there's just so many. It's an exercise in if you give people too many choices, they end up choosing nothing at all. The VCS has been getting about one game a week. So when I see something new, it's like, "Ooh, what's this?" I've actually been getting back into smaller indie games again because of the VCS.
I know a lot of people here think backward compatibility is super important, but we are enthusiasts that don't necessarily reflect general consumers. If you look back over the last 40 years, there seems to be little/no connection between systems that were major successes and ones that had backward compatibility. So for a lot of us here, it would be lame if the next system can't play Switch games, but from Nintendo's perspective as a business, I don't think it really does matter that much. The real question is how close in form factor will the next system (and its controllers) be to the Switch? That will probably determine if they are compatible.
I love this game, but it's hard to say why. On paper, it sounds pretty lame. An RPG with almost no story, minimal puzzle solving, few items of any real importance; it's mostly grind, grind, grind. It's the simplest RPG I've played since the 8-bit consoles. But yet it's such a delightful game! I actually enjoyed this game much more than Alliance Alive, even though that game has all the things LoL is lacking.

Of course big budget doesn't necessarily mean quality, we can all name many examples of developers spending a huge amount of money only to release a bigger pile of trash.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance's Protagonist Rocks An Awesome New Look
This is a slight improvement over the atrocious design of the original. I know this might upset some people, but I HATED the protagonist in the original, both the look and the absolute nothingness of being a "silent protagonist." Sure, all the SMT games have a silent protagonist, but in other's I've played, I get some sense of who this person is by the other characters around him. Not so much in this game. But as much as I didn't like the character design, truth be told, it doesn't really impact my overall opinion of the game.
Re: Random: BAFTA's 'Iconic Game Characters' Poll Has Us Scratching Our Heads
Just to get away from Nintendo, how is Master Chief lower than that guy from Hitman? I had no idea his name was "Agent 47" until I read this article. I know Hitman was a big game, but more than Halo? Press X to doubt.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th April)
I'm focusing on playing the Wii U games that still have people playing: Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Just tried Wii Sports Club and sadly, no one's playing.
Re: Review: Unicorn Overlord (Switch) - A Crowning Tactical RPG Achievement For Vanillaware
I'm glad to hear this is very different from 13 Sentinels. I'm still trying to convince myself it's worth finishing that game, but there's little beyond the artwork I actually enjoy. But this looks promising.
Re: Review: The Legend Of Legacy HD Remastered (Switch) - A Decent Return For The 3DS Dungeon-Crawler
Re: Talking Point: What's Your Personal Favourite Super Mario Game?
@LikelySatan I was starting to think I was crazy. Everyone gushes about how great the Galaxy games are, but to me, they're Super Mario Bad Camera Adventure.
For my own favorite, I went with 3D World. I probably enjoyed Odyssey more during my first play through, but 3D World is the game I find myself returning to replay.
Re: Review: Another Code: Recollection (Switch) - A Welcome Return For A Pair Of Cult Classics
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Another Code: Recollection?
I'm not really far enough to give it a score, but I loved the DS game and I think I'll enjoy this remake. The voice acting is really annoying. The delivery of the lines is generally good enough. It's the nonverbal vocalizations that drive me insane. All the "ah, oh, hmm" and heavy breathing. I can't stand how they think they can't allow any silence when they make these games. It's like if Ashley is looking at a puzzle, but she doesn't let out an loud "Um," we won't know it's a puzzle.
Re: Atari Reiterates Firm's Focus On Retro, Isn't Looking To Compete With Nintendo
Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility
I know a lot of people here think backward compatibility is super important, but we are enthusiasts that don't necessarily reflect general consumers. If you look back over the last 40 years, there seems to be little/no connection between systems that were major successes and ones that had backward compatibility. So for a lot of us here, it would be lame if the next system can't play Switch games, but from Nintendo's perspective as a business, I don't think it really does matter that much. The real question is how close in form factor will the next system (and its controllers) be to the Switch? That will probably determine if they are compatible.

Anyone who buys this should be put immediately on a watch list.
Re: 3DS Turn-Based JRPG 'The Legend Of Legacy' Is Getting Remastered Next Year
I love this game, but it's hard to say why.
