Re: Doug Bowser Comments On The Battle Against Joy-Con Drift, Says Nintendo Are Making "Continuous Improvements"

TheFox

@Donutman Maybe that's been your experience, but it's certainly not typical. In my case, I have one pro controller I use about 75% of the time, and three sets of JoyCons I use the other 25%. So pretty light use for my JoyCons. The pro controller is fine yet all three sets of JoyCons have drift. The only other system I've ever had this issue was the game pad for my Wii U. But that didn't develop drift until more than four years of heavy use, using the game pad almost exclusively as my controller.

Re: Review: My Singing Monsters Playground - A Fun, Minigame-Only Alternative To Mario Party

TheFox

Hmm... I really enjoy minigames, but I'm not sure I'd get much out of this if there's no 'meta-game." I loved the original Rayman's Raving Rabbids, which had a simple campaign to give a sense of progress and add some challenge. But that was removed in Raving Rabbids 2. That game was just, "play some minigames, and..." Nothing. Winning or losing didn't have any bearing beyond the minigame and I got bored almost instantly. But what's shown in the screenshots here does look pretty cool.

Re: Nintendo Talks About Its Future And Reconfirms Next Gaming System Is Coming In "20XX"

TheFox

Alright! Let's start speculating what features they need to add to the "Pro" model of this unnamed game system.

And I see people are already arguing over backwards compatibility. If it follows the form factor of the Switch and uses the same family of chips (like 3DS following the DS), it's a no brainer. But if the hardware drastically changes, probably not. I thought it was funny that people pitched a fit and acted like Sony was pure evil when the PS3 had it's backwards compatibility removed. But the thing was, the PS3 Cell Processor was never backward compatible, but the original model console had a complete PS2 hidden inside it which was partly why it was so expensive. Don't take this as me saying I don't want backwards compatibility, but if you look at the history of successful vs unsuccessful consoles, backwards compatibility doesn't seem to be a major factor in success.

Re: Nintendo Enlists Japanese Idol Group King & Prince To Promote Mario Party Superstars

TheFox

I checked this game out on Nintendo's official website. It didn't bother me that they were recycling boards and minigames from the N64 games as I didn't have a N64. However, I do have The Top 100 on the 3DS and it looks like this new Mario Party and Top 100 have A LOT of minigames in common. With all the games to choose from, they couldn't de-conflict? Knowing that many of the minigames are going to be the same ones I played just a few years ago is a major buzz kill.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive

TheFox

@DomGC And if you just want to see the story play out, dropping them down to easy mode will let you cruise through them. It took me a while to beat Bayonetta 2 (which I played first) because I played through the entire game at normal difficulty. Then I played the first game, but my patience was wearing thin. So I switched to easy and quickly finished it.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive

TheFox

I have no idea how the contracts between Nintendo and Platinum work, but Wonderful 101 crossed over so I don't know that it's impossible. But rumor on the street is Sony is really losing Japan. I know Bayonetta has found a fan base in the west but if the sale projections in Japan aren't there, I'm not sure there's a lot of incentive to get Bayonetta back on Playstation.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Graphics - The Most Beautiful Switch Games

TheFox

I'm going to disagree with two games on here, even though I know people will yell and screen that I'm wrong. Octopath Traveler - I just really don't like the pixel art trend. Astral Chain - it's not a bad looking game, but it's really nothing special either. A lot of bland or dark, dismal locations in the real world and the Astral Plain is kind of ugly. But a lot of the enemies look really cool. But overall for looks, I'd say it's near the middle of the pack, not one of the best.

Re: Bayonetta 3 Will 'Exceed All Your Expectations', Says Platinum's Hideki Kamiya

TheFox

Oh boy, I think I'm going to get beat up over this... Everyone is gushing praise for how amazing this Bayonetta 3 trailer was, but for me, it was a huge turn off. The first two games were gorgeous. Every level was a beautiful and fantastic location where I would just stop and look around at the surroundings. And the enemies all looked like works of art. This trailer was set in a dull, unremarkable city and the enemy was an ugly, goofy looking monster. The style I loved from the first two games was totally absent in this preview. I really hope this was fake footage made intentionally to confuse people by looking more like Astral Chain and DOESN'T actually represent the game.

Re: Platinum Would "Definitely" Port Star Fox Zero To Switch, If Given The Opportunity

TheFox

Oh please, DON'T. That game was HORRIBLE! And honestly, the controls weren't even my biggest complaint. I'll even go so far as to say I liked them in certain levels, such as the free roaming Arwing levels. But they were nothing but a hindrance in the on-rails and chicken walker areas. My main problem with SFZ is also my main complaint against Sonic Forces: It's like they took five different unpolished games and sloppily mashed them together into one VERY short game. (But SFZ is worse) So even if you liked one of the modes, you were probably getting less than an hours worth of that content. So please Nintendo, just come out and say Star Fox Zero won't be ported unless hell freezes over AND a new F-Zero appears. And we know one of those things will NEVER happen.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo To End Submissions For New Wii U And 3DS eShop Games

TheFox

@Varathius OK. I was really disappointed with how little was done with that. I've got one but I never ended up buying any of the handful of games made for it. But at least Monster Hunter 4 and Generations are much easier to play with the right stick. And FE: Shadow of Valentia, while it didn't require the New 3DS, it did use the Amiibo reader and had probably the best Amiibo functionality of any 3DS game.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo To End Submissions For New Wii U And 3DS eShop Games

TheFox

@Varathius I'll agree with you that the Switch isn't the ideal handheld, but it's not fair to say the 3DS was ignored. Nintendo, along with a few 3rd parties, release new games for the 3DS for two years after the Switch launch. I wish it had gone even longer, but to be fair, two years isn't bad. I do remember a lot of YouTubers pitching a fit, mad a Nintendo for not immediately killing the 3DS after the Switch's launch. But those people are idiots.

Re: No More Heroes III Now Has A Collector's Edition And Deluxe Edition

TheFox

@Ghost_of_Hasashi I've learned long ago not to use myself as a measurement for "normal," but I have several collector's editions with vinyl soundtracks. Vinyl is my format of choice, but I also listen to CDs and occasionally download only. But one thing I do think is odd is I don't see any mention of the soundtrack having any other formats. The last two I ordered both came with a thumb drive that, along with other things, had a digital copy of the soundtrack and one of them also came with CDs.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Hardware Refreshes Through The Ages

TheFox

@Scrubicius Yes, but with no form factor changes or really anything obvious, that's a stretch to call that a refresh. Although they did feel the need to announce it at least. Basically, all consoles get minor tweaks to the internals along the way, but most are so minor, no one really talks about them.

But for my vote, I went with the DS Lite. The original was a visual abomination and I was so happy when they made one I didn't feel embarrassed to pull out in public.

Re: Talking Point: Everyone Has A Bad Game They Love, So What's Yours?

TheFox

It's in my profile pic... Devil's Third! It was probably my second favorite Wii U game after Splatoon. Yeah, the graphics were an absolute mess, but it was so much fun! I know it will never happen, but it's the only Wii U game I'd actually want ported to the Switch, just so they could fix the problems. Also, even the critics that trashed the game admitted that the multiplayer was actually pretty good. Since the Switch isn't getting any Call of Duty games, this would actually fill the niche of online shooters that aren't Fortnite.

Re: Gallery: Here Are 26 Shin Megami Tensei V Screenshots For Your Viewing Pleasure

TheFox

These JRPG's take me an eternity to finish. But I'm so stoked for this game that I haven't bought any since Ys VIII. I just finished that a few weeks ago, and on the 3DS, I've given up on Alliance Alive, and while I'm still slowly plodding through Etrian Odyssey Nexus. So I feel ready for something new.

@Ahlvin23 I think another worrying trend is the "quality of life" they've been adding to the games. Sure, old school SMT games can be frustrating, but SMT IV Apocalypse had zero penalty for dying. It totally removed any sense of challenge or the relieve/joy of limping back (most of your demons dead and having used all your health items) to a terminal to save your progress.

Re: Former Star Fox Programmer Would Be Interested In Making A New Entry Without The "Gimmicks"

TheFox

I'm glad he's saying that he wants to do something new rather than "fix" Star Fox Zero. I've always felt the only way of fixing that game was to start over. That said, I thought the best parts of that game were the free roaming sections. I liked free roaming in confined battle spaces rather than the open world design of Starlink, which for me lead to a lot of aimless wandering around. But I do think they need to pick a style and focus on that. Zero's biggest problem (even more than its controls) was it tried to shove a ton of different gameplay styles into a single, short game.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is The Latest Game To Get Its Very Own Twitter Emoji

TheFox

When this game was first announced, despite not being a big Zelda fan, I was thinking I might get it because, "It's got motion controls and I love motion controls!" But then looking into what the original Wii game was, the more I learn, the less interested I am. It sounded repetitive and just bad design. I won't make up my mind until the reviews are out and I hear what changed, but it's not looking good.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

TheFox

You can use your Mii's?! I'm in! I miss having all sorts of Mii games that graced the Wii U and 3DS. Of course this will mean I have to rebuild my army of Mii's based on my friends can coworkers. I'm glad this game sounds like it's still mostly a golf game. I'm not sure what Mario Tennis Aces was, but it certainly wasn't Tennis. While Ultra Smash on Wii U was shockingly low on content, I still enjoyed the basic tennis gameplay. But Aces decided to mix things up by turning itself into some ungodly abortion that didn't feel like a tennis game. I like golf games, so it's reassuring that this still sounds like golf and not "Charge up your power bar, launch cannon attack and shatter your opponent's golf club!"

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

TheFox

I haven't played enough of these to argue the positions of the ones I did play. But one that's fairly low on the list that I actually did enjoy was Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice. I don't know if it's ranking suffered from just having "Boom" in the title, but I thought it was fun. I suppose there's always the possibility that I just have bad taste.

Re: Potential Switch Port Round-Up - The Wii U Games That Haven't Come To Switch

TheFox

@TSR3 Considered yourself blessed. Star Fox Zero was garbage. I'll admit, there were a few small parts that were fun, but overall, it was a mess of a game. It's only real saving grace was that Star Fox Guard came bundled in for free, and I loved that game! Unfortunately, Guard is one of the few games where it's really hard to see how you'd play it without the game pad.

Re: Review: Winds of Change - A Polished, Absorbing, Animal-Filled Visual Novel

TheFox

@MetalGear_Yoshi Yeah, I try to keep an open mind to other people's interests (after all, some people think I'm into weird/frivolous stuff). But there's something very off putting about furry art. I'm not sure if it's something inherent to the artwork itself, or if I just can't separate it from all the disturbing things I've heard come out of that community.
