People have been trying so hard to find some sordid themes under the surface of Ace Attorney ever since it came out. And I sort of regret how I ended that last sentence because everyone seems so sure every character in the game is gay.
Hmm... I have the CD soundtracks to Splatoon 2, which is great, and the Octo Expansion, which is kind of a mixed bag. This new song is a little too much grating guitars and high pitched vocals. Of course there were always a few songs like that mixed into the previous games, so no reason to panic. But I can't honestly say I like this track.
I don't have any of these, but I tend to avoid time consuming sandbox or online games. For full disclosure, I do have COD Cold War on PS4 although mainly for the single player campaign. I honestly wish I did enjoy Animal Crossing. I have New Leaf on 3DS and it's undeniably charming. Every once in a while I'll fire it up and accomplish a few tasks, but it just doesn't hold my attention.
Don't get excited about a new game announcement! You'll just end up frustrated and five years from now, asking "So when is that game actually coming out?"
I had F-Zero GX and personally, I don't see what all the fuss was about. That said, for the people who do love the franchise, these frequent articles about how Nintendo might make a new one with super vague evidence or quotes to back up the claim just seems like rubbing salt in the wounds.
One advantage the Switch successor will have is it's not based on an already failing strategy. For as wildly successful as the Wii was, it really lost momentum fast in the second half of the generation. All the casual gamers that went nuts for the Wii in 2007 started buying tablets and smart phones in 2009. The Wii U was supposed to appeal to the same people as the Wii, but a lot of those people were gone and NEVER coming back.
I always thought the "No targeted ads on videos marked for kids" was a very unfair double standard for YouTube. Do you think that when kids turn on their favorite cartoons on cable tv, the commercials aren't very deliberately targeted at the core demographic of that show? And for all the hyped stories about how the social media networks can perfectly target adds to your interests... Why do I get so many You-Tube ads for feminine products and urban brands? I have no need for the one and no interest in the other. This perfect targeting seems a bit overhyped.
The trailer doesn't give me a very good idea what the game will be like. For me (who rarely has anyone else to play party games with), Rabbids games have been very hit and miss based on whether or not they have something to tie the minigames together. I loved the original and it worked pretty well as a single player game. The second one was decent, but only if you had other players, it was pointless by yourself. Rabbids Travel in Time wasn't great, even if you had other players. I know it got trashed by critics, but I actually liked Rabbids Land on Wii U.
Found out they have a second run of this game for sale. Since this will almost certainly be the last physical release for the 3DS, I figured I should pick it up. I wish it actually had 3D. It's kind of lame that the 3DS goes out with a 2D game. I saw in NL's review, the complained it's short. That might be a good thing for me. Three years after the 3DS stopped getting physical games (except this one), I still have a decent back log. If this was a 100 hour game, chances of me every finishing it would be pretty slim.
I'm surprised they didn't time something like this with the movies. I can see why they wouldn't want a big 3D game to come out the same day the movies opened because that kind of locked in schedule is how you get a Sonic 06 fiasco. But timing a more modest 2D Sonic project with levels inspired by the locations in the movies seems like it would have been great marketing. And thinking about all those poor parents getting bombarded with, "I WANT THE NEW SONIC GAME!" immediately after walking out of the theater brings joy to my heart.
@TG1 6 may be labeled "Not Bad" but if you look over their ratings, they're so over inflated, they are really only using the 5-10 part of the scale. Seriously, a game has to essentially be nonfunctional to get less that 5. So it is really rare for a Nintendo first party game to get a 6.
@Bluerangervegeta I think a lot of people who are passionate and creative can often have their head up their own a**. Off course from their perspective, they have "great ideas" while the people around them are always saying, "Yeah, but..." The trick is knowing when to turn the stubborn off and when to say, "No, you're wrong!"
I bought a 3DS within a week of its release. At the time, I didn't really follow the gaming press, so it was news to me when I later found out that it had "a bad launch line up." I was really happy with the games I got early on (except that dinosaur fighting game).
I feel rather ambivalent on this issue. Back in the Wii U days, I tried to be helpful by posting a comic style warning to Miiverse showing how not to knock someone's head off while playing with motion controls... And they removed it for violence! How many children were decapitated because they didn't see my warning?
@Moistnado Gasp! Metroid Prime Pinball was a treasure! I loved that game. But I think this is a case of, just because it has the name doesn't mean it's really part of the franchise.
I'm not defending Ubi leadership, but I really don't agree with "there's nowhere to go but up." If they get bought out, I could easily see them being strip mined for their biggest IP which will then be run into the ground. Granted, they've done a pretty good job of that themselves, but if you think it couldn't get worse, look at Activision, EA or 2K.
I hope they are holding back some surprises... Maybe a whole yet to be revealed new mode. I love Splatoon enough that I'll buy this regardless, even if it is just new maps. But based on what they are showing here, I have to add my voice to the masses complaining how similar this is to Splatoon 2.
The SD card I use as my main card will be able to take Splatton 3... Initially. I wonder what it will be after a few months? I was hoping my current card would get me through the entire Switch's life, but I might need an upgrade.
I loved Sonic on the Genesis back in the day, but I hadn't played any Classic Sonic since then. So I was excited when Sonic Mania was released... And I didn't really enjoy it that much. Then I heard Freedom Planet was kind of like Classic Sonic, but better. So I bought that... I've come to the shocking conclusion that for me, that time has passed. I guess I'm just not that into 2D Sonic any more. But I will be eagerly awaiting Frontiers. The screenshots they're released so far look promising.
@ALinkttPresent "...Nintendo seems to have completely abandoned the Zelda series." How do you figure that? The Switch probably has more Zelda titles than any other Nintendo system, and the delay of BOTW2 is pretty much par for the course. It's not like they cancelled it.
Personally, I feel like we're drowning in Zelda games, but if we have to keep the pipeline pumping out ports and remakes, I'd say an upgraded port of Ocarina of Time (substantial improvements beyond graphics - overhaul the navi character) would make the most sense. It's often cited as being the best Zelda and it's got much more name recognition than some of the other titles I'm seeing mentioned here.
@gameboy1975 To be fair, I'm not sure I remember people getting salty over No More Heroes, but I have seen people get heated over the idea of Bayonetta and Astral Chain going multiplatform.
@Chlocean I thought Sungrand only made 3DS titles. It's too bad the gameplay of Three Stars Down was so clunky. It was actually a pretty ambitious title for such a small developer (may one person?).
Oh God! NL is already suggesting Zelda ports for the next console. They need to be stopped! In all seriousness, when Nintendo releases new hardware, I'll buy it, but not for Zelda. And really, not for any one specific game.
I picked up Radiant Historia a few months ago. It's amazing and I definitely recommend picking it up. For a lot of these Atlus RPG's, if you miss them on 3DS, I'm not sure that there are close equivalents on Switch. Sure, SMTV and Nocturne is on Switch, but they play a lot different than Strange Journey and Soul Hackers. Etrian Odyssey was so specifically designed around the DS/3DS, I don't know that they will continue at all. Meanwhile, Pokemon is pretty much Pokemon. Unless you just want to "catch 'em all," I don't think you're missing out on anything unique if you pass up a few.
@Ryu_Niiyama Well, there's that breed of Nintendo fan that really, REALLY wants games to stay exclusive on Switch. How will they know to have a meltdown in the comments if Nintendo Life doesn't tell them? (Before anyone yells at me, yes, I know Playstation and Xbox has the same kind of fans).
I bought the PS4 version as soon as it came out. I was really looking forward to it. But it just doesn't do it for me. The visuals really are beautiful, so I do play it now and then just to take in the artwork. But the story and gameplay are, in my opinion, rather lack luster. I see all the glowing reviews and feel like I'm missing something.
Can a game be a platformer without jumping? Captain Toad, while it's a good game, seems more like a puzzle game than a platformer, in large part because you can't jump between "platforms." But it suppose it has some things in common.
I know this isn't in the cards, and I'm not even a particular fan of this game, but... A wild, high speed roller coaster based on F-Zero would be cool. But we all know Nintendo will never throw a bone to fans of that franchise.
@juliobrand My Wii U, which has seen very heavy use, works just fine... As long as I'm using any controller other than the game pad. This really isn't anything to do with the looming e-shop closing, because I bought them physical, but Etrian Odyssey Nexus and Radiant Historia on 3DS. And I finally got my Wii U repaired, so I'm jumping back into some of those games.
I'll through in my 2 cents on a few of these. Totally agree and you should buy them: Nano Assault and Star Fox Guard (it was as fun as Zero was terrible).
