Eventually, maybe, if I can find a cheap copy of the original Switch cart that I can upgrade. The camera stuff looks like it would be fun for my young kids but I’m not paying full price for that novelty. Got the Kirby upgrade pre-ordered and I’ll be buying Donkey Kong next time I buy a full priced release.
I like the idea of the game but everything I’ve seen of it makes it look very bland. Can imagine the novelty wearing off after a couple of sessions. Might give it a try but I’d say it’s unlikely.
@metal1K Oh fair enough, I must have read wrong - thought I saw someone saying that's why the new ROG Xbox thing didn't have OLED either. Still, I think the price was justification enough, probably.
I really don't care either way - I'll be super happy if they do add some more Nintendo franchises, mainly because it will hopefully mean cool new tracks - but if it never happens I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Currently racing as the dolphin, woop woop.
Yeah, it's a bit silly and I do miss the all-SEGA approach of SR Transformed - but the game looks lots of fun and my kids will LOVE that Spongebob is in it. They can enjoy that while I indulge in some SEGA nostalgia, so it's a win-win for me.
From what I understand, adding OLED would not only have increased the cost but also impacted the battery life significantly. Both of which were kinda at the limit of what was acceptable, IMO. So I completely get why they compromised with the screen tech. To my layman eyes the screen looks good but I’d definitely be interested in an OLED version eventually if they can give it a respectable battery life.
@Drago201 Yeah, this. Would be very surprised if there was anything totally new. Resi Requiem alone will eat up a lot of time, I expect (and I am 100% OK with that).
Well, I was hoping for some substantial gameplay reveals and it 100% delivered. Never bought a DK game before but I'll be all over this one, looks like loads of fun! In so many ways it seemed like what a light-hearted game about the Incredible Hulk would be if Pixar made it. 10/10 from me.
Not a DK fan in particular so the characters don't matter to me in the slightest. What I'm looking for is a gameplay hook that goes beyond simply bashing holes in stuff, as cool as that looks in quick bursts during the trailer. There needs to be a point to it beyond "Hey guys! How many bananas and gems can YOU find!?"
Never been interested in a DK game before but this looks fun and I love DK’s new design - looks much more vibrant and expressive IMO. But I want to know if there’s more to the game than its central gimmick, so I’ll be waiting for reviews and even then it’ll probably sit on my wishlist while I catch up on some other Switch stuff I never played.
Might pick this up with Mario Party to play with the kids, but undecided at the moment. Certainly don't want or need it for anything else right now as I have no interest in Game Chat whatsoever.
Probably around a 7 currently. I find the open world beautifully designed but a little pointless in its current state. Challenges like the P switches are fine but there's no motivation to do them, currently. Some more substantial unlockables would make that a lot more fun.
Also Grand Prix and Knockout Tour could do with being made more distinct from each other, IMO - have GP focused just on courses while KT mixes the open world with a lap or two of a course at each stop.
Core racing mechanics, graphics and music are top notch though, so I'm hoping with a few content updates my rating would be way, way higher.
Having sat with it a while, I do miss a more traditional Grand Prix - races feel a little inconsequential when the proper track is only a single lap. Even if it was two laps around the final course, that would make a big difference. Or say one for 50cc, two for 100 and the full three for 150cc.
Also not really feeling the motivation to explore the open world as there just isn’t enough reward for doing so. It’s beautifully designed and I’ve had fun exploring it with my kids on a couple of occasions (they like to ride the train around the map), but when I actually sit down to properly play, I don’t boot it up.
I expect Nintendo are listening intently to criticism and will eventually introduce some additions or changes, but at the moment I’d probably only recommend it if someone was picking up the bundle. On its own I’d feel a bit short changed.
Normally not one for Rainbow Road especially (always fine but never my favourite) - but yeah, they knocked it out the park this time around. Super cool course.
Number one is Mario Kart World, but I also abandoned my original Switch relatively early into the lifecycle so I’m picking up some big titles that I didn’t finish or missed out on. Already booted up Mario Odyssey to wrap up the post-game and really pleasantly surprised at how much better it looks on Switch 2. Will also make my way through the rest of Breath of the Wild (yes I know, I’m embarrassed too) and start Mario Wonder, though not sure how much of that I’ll manage this weekend.
Also been picking up some low priced bargains on the eShop, like Scott Pilgrim, Abzu and Gris. So my library is already looking pretty stacked!
I seem to be in the minority here but I'm quite happy without analogue triggers. The ones on my main DualSense controller have been worn to the point where I'm constantly accidentally triggering them with the slightest touch and it's annoying as heck. The only time I can really see me wanting them is for the kinds of game I'd play on my PS5 or PC anyway. I understand the gripe, but for me personally, it's a non-issue. Absolutely lovely controller, huge improvement over the original.
I’m enjoying it! Don’t have a camera yet but eh, big whoop, I’ll just skip those ones. It’s still an informative, charming and entertaining intro to the system’s core features. People are so easily wound up these days.
Just want to show some appreciation for Alex's sheer joy unboxing that thing. It's absolutely palpable and I was grinning like an absolute goon along with him the whole time. And yes, the speakers ARE that good! Go into the settings and try out the surround sound audio test once you're set up - it's surprising how well it works without headphones!
This is mainly why I kept my old Pro Controller as well as picking up a new one. Don't want to be putting unnecessary wear on the Joy Cons if I can help it.
Noticeable improvement IMO, booted this up on my OG Switch just before selling it and it suddenly became apparent just how low-res the original model was. Still got some of the post-game to complete and will be doing that on my Switch 2 for sure. Nice to see the frame rate improvements as well!
I’ve got one preordered - originally I was going to stick with the original Pro controller but after seeing various people rave about how good the new sticks feel (that and HD rumble 2), I was sold. The original will be my Player 2 controller and this will be my main, to avoid as much wear on the Joy Cons as possible.
Notifications don’t seem to work properly for me, had one pop up for the Mario Kart direct and that was it, so I keep forgetting it’s there. Will probably delete.
Absolutely picking this up - Fast RMX was excellent and the fusion element here looks wild! Very excited. For what it’s worth though I’m also planning to pick up the welcome tour, haha.
My pre-order is in. For me, my ‘controversial gaming opinion’ is that Mario Kart is Nintendo’s single greatest IP, so this is as close to an instabuy as I can get on a Ninty platform. It looks superb already but I’m very intrigued to see what they haven’t revealed yet. Price increases suck of course, but there’s no shortage of cheaper games out there and I know that this is a game I’ll be playing for a very, very long time.
Despite loving the first Castlevania anime I slept on this one until like a month ago. Oh boy, what an unexpected treat that was. Absolutely loved it and can’t wait for this. Can’t understand anyone who thinks this is remotely unfaithful to the spirit of the games. Keeps so much of the good stuff and then adds a bunch of compelling new characters and a much more detailed plot. Heck, even the art style is clearly more aimed at Ayami Kojima’s art this time around. The Elizabeth Bathory influenced big bad is a great move too. Just hope we get a tease of Dracula himself after the story concludes.
I'd be interested in a super fancy edition from iam8bit or wherever if they choose to do one, otherwise I'm happy with a download. Super excited that these are finally getting re-released though!
Yeah, have to admit I’m not too thrilled at the pricing. No interest in Animal Crossing and the range of games is too limited for the money. Compared to the value of PS Plus and Gamepass, it’s just not quite there. I don’t sub to NSO currently and this isn’t changing my mind.
People should keep their expectations in check with this one. $270k is a pretty tiny budget in games development terms and the fact they haven’t been able to just find a partner from the outset is a bit odd. TBH this reads like the equivalent of getting a game developed on Fiverr. Either we’re going to get something pretty low key or a talented dev is going to be utilised for less money than they deserve. Hope I’m wrong but something about this doesn’t sit quite right.
It looks...fine, I guess? I'm in the camp of being a fairly casual Pokemon fan, and I keep waiting for one of the new games to entice me back. This one doesn't do it for me, but I guess I'm not the audience for it.
Adore Sonic Mania and have bought it four times across various platforms now in an attempt to try and convince SEGA to make another one. I live in hope.
It seems really nice, but ultimately I play mostly on a TV or on my monitor during lunch breaks, so it's not for me. Holding out hope for a properly upgraded model one day, but something tells me it won't be for a good while yet, which means I'll be buying more and more games on my PC and PS5.
Been lucky enough to visit Joypolis in Tokyo a few times now and it’s great - having one in the UK would be amazing! And yes, I’m old enough to remember Sega World. As a big Sega fanboy of the 90s it was just about the coolest thing I’d ever seen!
It all depends on price for me. My Switch was my console of choice when it first launched, but since then I've started buying multiplatform games on either PC or PS5 instead. If this new Switch can bridge the performance difference enough then I'll be on board, for sure.
I'd love a truly definitive collected edition that includes games like Sonic the Fighters and Sonic R. Fingers crossed. But yes, very much echoing others in wishing Sega would give a much more (or, y'know...ANY) love to its other franchises.
It looks like good fun but it's just too much of a gimmick. Plus the need for everyone to have a Switch and a copy of the game, etc. Nice idea though that I'd love to give a go if I had a few more friends with Switches.

Nope, it looks really boring from the trailer so haven’t given it any thought after the showcase until now.
