Re: Nintendo Reminds Us DK Is On The Way To Switch 2 Next Month

SegaBlueSky

Never been interested in a DK game before but this looks fun and I love DK’s new design - looks much more vibrant and expressive IMO. But I want to know if there’s more to the game than its central gimmick, so I’ll be waiting for reviews and even then it’ll probably sit on my wishlist while I catch up on some other Switch stuff I never played.

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

SegaBlueSky

Probably around a 7 currently. I find the open world beautifully designed but a little pointless in its current state. Challenges like the P switches are fine but there's no motivation to do them, currently. Some more substantial unlockables would make that a lot more fun.

Also Grand Prix and Knockout Tour could do with being made more distinct from each other, IMO - have GP focused just on courses while KT mixes the open world with a lap or two of a course at each stop.

Core racing mechanics, graphics and music are top notch though, so I'm hoping with a few content updates my rating would be way, way higher.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario Kart World

Having sat with it a while, I do miss a more traditional Grand Prix - races feel a little inconsequential when the proper track is only a single lap. Even if it was two laps around the final course, that would make a big difference. Or say one for 50cc, two for 100 and the full three for 150cc.

Also not really feeling the motivation to explore the open world as there just isn’t enough reward for doing so. It’s beautifully designed and I’ve had fun exploring it with my kids on a couple of occasions (they like to ride the train around the map), but when I actually sit down to properly play, I don’t boot it up.

I expect Nintendo are listening intently to criticism and will eventually introduce some additions or changes, but at the moment I’d probably only recommend it if someone was picking up the bundle. On its own I’d feel a bit short changed.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (7th June)

SegaBlueSky

Number one is Mario Kart World, but I also abandoned my original Switch relatively early into the lifecycle so I’m picking up some big titles that I didn’t finish or missed out on. Already booted up Mario Odyssey to wrap up the post-game and really pleasantly surprised at how much better it looks on Switch 2. Will also make my way through the rest of Breath of the Wild (yes I know, I’m embarrassed too) and start Mario Wonder, though not sure how much of that I’ll manage this weekend.

Also been picking up some low priced bargains on the eShop, like Scott Pilgrim, Abzu and Gris. So my library is already looking pretty stacked!

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - A New Benchmark In Comfort And Design

SegaBlueSky

I seem to be in the minority here but I'm quite happy without analogue triggers. The ones on my main DualSense controller have been worn to the point where I'm constantly accidentally triggering them with the slightest touch and it's annoying as heck. The only time I can really see me wanting them is for the kinds of game I'd play on my PS5 or PC anyway. I understand the gripe, but for me personally, it's a non-issue. Absolutely lovely controller, huge improvement over the original.

Just want to show some appreciation for Alex's sheer joy unboxing that thing. It's absolutely palpable and I was grinning like an absolute goon along with him the whole time. And yes, the speakers ARE that good! Go into the settings and try out the surround sound audio test once you're set up - it's surprising how well it works without headphones!

Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?

SegaBlueSky

I’ve got one preordered - originally I was going to stick with the original Pro controller but after seeing various people rave about how good the new sticks feel (that and HD rumble 2), I was sold. The original will be my Player 2 controller and this will be my main, to avoid as much wear on the Joy Cons as possible.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Mario Kart World Are In

SegaBlueSky

My pre-order is in. For me, my ‘controversial gaming opinion’ is that Mario Kart is Nintendo’s single greatest IP, so this is as close to an instabuy as I can get on a Ninty platform. It looks superb already but I’m very intrigued to see what they haven’t revealed yet. Price increases suck of course, but there’s no shortage of cheaper games out there and I know that this is a game I’ll be playing for a very, very long time.

Re: Alucard And Richter Create A Symphony In New 'Castlevania: Nocturne' Trailer

SegaBlueSky

Despite loving the first Castlevania anime I slept on this one until like a month ago. Oh boy, what an unexpected treat that was. Absolutely loved it and can’t wait for this. Can’t understand anyone who thinks this is remotely unfaithful to the spirit of the games. Keeps so much of the good stuff and then adds a bunch of compelling new characters and a much more detailed plot. Heck, even the art style is clearly more aimed at Ayami Kojima’s art this time around. The Elizabeth Bathory influenced big bad is a great move too. Just hope we get a tease of Dracula himself after the story concludes.

Re: Konami Competition Tasks Indie Devs With Reviving Its Classic IP

SegaBlueSky

People should keep their expectations in check with this one. $270k is a pretty tiny budget in games development terms and the fact they haven’t been able to just find a partner from the outset is a bit odd. TBH this reads like the equivalent of getting a game developed on Fiverr. Either we’re going to get something pretty low key or a talented dev is going to be utilised for less money than they deserve. Hope I’m wrong but something about this doesn’t sit quite right.
