Re: Nintendo's Ability To Ban Switch 2 Consoles Has Landed It In Hot Water

Ryu_Niiyama

No Piracy, No Problem.

Nintendo is not gonna let folks rob them and use their services as well. A bricked/banned system is exactly what a person paid for. The physical system, not the constantly updated OS or Online service. So for the “I paid for it so I can do what I want” folks, you can. You just only get what you paid for, the physical system. You have a TOS that you agree to from the start.

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

Ryu_Niiyama

If I sold or traded games I would be fine with the current state of physical on all systems. As I don’t and I am tired of all the increasing clutter let alone more furniture to store and house said clutter, I happily went digital with the switch 2. At this point I am too old for physical, and I am happy not to add to the pile. I love the virtual game cards as well. Makes swapping between systems easy.

Re: A Cancelled 'Animaniacs' GBA Game Has Been Rediscovered, And You Can Play It Now

Ryu_Niiyama

@KevTastic84 Absolutely not. The artstyle horrified me as a kid. You know when they would do grotesque closeups. Plus it was idiotic and vulgar (my opinion, if you like it you like it.) Certain stuff was banned in my house as well (Beavis and Butthead, Simpsons, South Park. Not to mention I couldn’t relate to the subject matter anyway. )

Eh that was some cartoons in the 90’s. I was fine with Gargoyles, Aladdin, Doug, Tenko, X-men, Spider-man, Captain Planet, Biker Mice from Mars, Talespin, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Static Shock (was that 2000’s?) Sailor Moon (granted that’s anime)…the list goes on. Plus the 90’s had tons of live action and game shows for kids (guts, legends of the hidden temple, carmen sandiego, all that, Gullah Gullah island) But I spent my formative years on PBS or reading and my personal sensibilities developed from there. That being said by 14 I had curbed my TV habit to focus on school and work. So I am not current with Millennial pop culture after a point.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

Ryu_Niiyama

Some men want to see the world burn.

Review Bombing is such a waste of time beyond small businesses. At least with a small business it is a direct rating and they panic if they see that. Metacritic is too many degrees of separation, I doubt anybody at Nintendo is watching metacritic like a hawk (at least on user reviews, different for critical reviews) unless sales eventually tank (which they won’t). All it really does is make it other users’ problem (skewed reviews, click bait articles, skewed discourse). For me anyway it just means ignore (which is the opposite intended effect), when normal reviews would have made me pay attention to see why it was trending lower. “making your voice heard” only works in the internet echo chamber. You wanna be heard? Money talks, BS walks.

I have no opinion either way but simply wish that DF wasn’t the only “source of truth”. Other outlets don’t do their own research (even if they come to the same conclusion, I don’t care) and just repeat what DF says nor does DF interview Nintendo/original sources to get dev or engineer viewpoint. It is impossible to remove bias with anything reported by a human so better to have multiple independent analysis sources. And if they want to be taken seriously, peer review.

Re: Mini Review: Locomoto (Switch) - On The Right Cosy Track, But Has A Few Train Faults

Ryu_Niiyama

I always feel life sim games are not meant to be binged because just like what they playfully emulate, life is repetitive. What makes these games work is the dopamine hit of performing a familiar task quickly, successfully and without significant stress (so the usual opposite of work for most people) but if you play too long eventually that wears off and you are…bored. It reminds me of why my mother can’t understand why I love farming games but hated growing up in a rural area.

This sounds like a good game to add to the rotation.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King

Ryu_Niiyama

the more I think about it I get the tiny dpad idea. I had an N64 launch year and I could count on my hands the number of times I used the dpad. Same with gamecube. I think at the time the engineers were trying to make the most used buttons more accessible via size and I that that contributes to the love it or hate it response to the controller. A lot of games during the gamecube era felt tailored to the controller (including 3rd parties) when it was simply the more used buttons/sticks were prominent. As I remember playing the gamecube I understand how I developed a bias to the “Nintendo control layout” especially since it wasn’t really standardized until the wii and forward.

Re: Review: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma (Switch) - A Bold Reinvention That Pays Off

Ryu_Niiyama

Sakunahime being in this game makes it an instant win (so glad they kept the same seiyu) but honestly this has been a blast to play. I do think you get too many pieces of equipment too quickly though. The farming aspect is up to you really. You have set crop goals so you can set in and control it as much as you want or leave it to the system to handle. But if you want higher level crops you need to do it yourself. The farming has less risk and isn’t dependent on leveling tools but other than that I feel it has a good feedback (granted I like the focus on not overly planning because if I want to focus on farming I would play a bokumono game.). The game basically gets out of your way based on your play preference.

Re: Dbrand Admits Its Joy-Con Detachment Response Was "Spectacularly Terrible"

Ryu_Niiyama

@Jade37 I’m gonna agree to disagree because that is a disturbing take. Extreme reactions? A death threat (not in response to one’s own life being in danger) is not “extreme”, it is insane and what a world we live in if that is even on the table of reactions over a fricken product. People need to take responsibility for regulating their own emotions and behaviors. Also death threats should be responded to because they should always be taken seriously. There is no scenario where this is ok, or should even be an option as a response/reaction or accepted as a possible response to anything. If you see something to sympathize about that or think that this was “cultivated” then you go right ahead. But please stay away from me. Have a nice day.
