Re: Pokémon Winds & Waves' Main Theme Sounds Absolutely Gorgeous

Ryu_Niiyama

Went to the pokemon symphony when they toured NA. Always lovely to hear the music in full orchestral form. Got me back into buying OSTs heavily. I have such respect for musicians, especially, classically trained ones.

This new theme sounds epic. I’m behind (still playing sword) but will catch up to one of these eventually.

Re: Review: Indiana Jones And The Great Circle (Switch 2) - An Authentic Indy Adventure Arrives In Fine Form

Ryu_Niiyama

Glad it ported well. I no longer have an interest as I was only gonna buy it in hopes that bethesda ports more games and since they are bringing over Oblivion Remastered and I still gotta pick up Fallout 4 for Switch 2, those will be my tribute to the horde. Starfield turns my series x into a lava brick so I’m not betting on that (don’t wanna restart anyway).

Now back to waiting for TES 6.

Re: Star Fox Is Finally Getting Another Game, Out June 2026 Exclusively On Switch 2

Ryu_Niiyama

Also I think a lot of people complaining didn’t play through the star fox games. Caveat: I didn’t either but have watched let’s plays. I do own all of them though. No free time.

Star Fox SNES: Original game
Star Fox 2 SNES: Original but unreleased for decades game.
Star Fox 64: Reboot pulling elements from 1 and 2 and then doing its own thing. Not a Remake.
Star Fox adventures (GCN): Original game that was plastered with Star Fox IP
Star Fox Assault (GCN) : Original Game but made by Namco.
Star Fox Command (DS): Original Game.
Star Fox 64 3D: Remake of 64.
Star Fox Zero (Wii U): Reimagining of 1,2 and 64 smashed together. Lifts ideas from each.
Star Fox (Switch 2): Remake.

Simply the series doesn’t sell and for the early games were very expensive considering the low ROI. It’s a franchise where consumers don’t put their money where their mouth is. They like the idea of the characters and world but don’t actually like the games. No wonder Nintendo can’t gain momentum.

Re: Stop Stressing, Nintendo Says More Switch 2 Games Are Coming

Ryu_Niiyama

It’s sorta sad Nintendo has to say this, but consumers and shareholders are not known for their patience. Folks acting like they are gonna go on break or something for the rest of the year. Meanwhile, Nintendo is one of the steadiest devs and publishers in the industry. Including many franchises getting new entries in over a decade.

That being said fair game to those that acknowledge there is steady output…just simply they aren’t the audience. Happens to us all.

(I on the other hand, am still trying to mow down my wishlist which is 90 percent switch games.)

Re: Nintendo Says Approximately 40% Of Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Players Are Switch 2 Owners

Ryu_Niiyama

I don’t have it yet, but will play on switch 2 I think. Really depends on my memory situation. I try to play larger switch games on switch to save room for switch 2 exclusives. so could be either or. The numbers seem fair considering not everyone offloads older systems. Actually they seem good as it means users are moving on. The less time spent straddling old systems the better chances for games that take advantage of new system power.

Re: Star Fox Switch 2 amiibo Compatibility Confirmed, Here's What You Can Unlock

Ryu_Niiyama

@rjejr Skylanders for instance has way less funtionality than amiibo. I can’t speak for infinity as I got the last one made so most of my figures are newer. Most amiibo unlock/give you something in most games (Granted I have not tested my amiibo that I bought this year as I still need to unbox and put them away, so grain of salt. )

I’m of mixed opinions on the zelda line. Likely since I use them and FE the most. I wouldn’t mind that they put all the rewards under the original smash line, however for some games (BOTW, TOTK, HW) it would take a while to cycle to their unique unlocks and that could be frustrating when you can only scan once every 24 hours or in HW case, 5 a day. It’s a balancing act.

Re: Star Fox Switch 2 amiibo Compatibility Confirmed, Here's What You Can Unlock

Ryu_Niiyama

@StewdaMegaManNerd That was the original pitch for amiibo. Buy for one game, use in several. Consumer complaints, scalping and duplicates (intended to refresh lines so not a bad idea), sorta lost the plot and they don’t always update functionality for new games anymore. However, for the 10 consumers (raises hand) that bought these for their promised functionality, it is always good to see older models in use.

Not a fan of Nintendo leaning into the cheap figures aspect of the line while nerfing functionality. But when you have a wall or two dedicated to them you want a return on investment, lol.

edit: Ignore. I misunderstood the OG user’s comment.

Re: Nintendo's President Apparently Wants Switch 2 To Match The Long Lifespan Of The Original System

Ryu_Niiyama

Fair. Game gens have to be longer to accommodate hardware parts, supply chain instability, game dev and marketing costs.

This has the potential to force Nintendo, who loves steady output (case in point WiiU, Switch and Switch 2 libraries. They may not have produced all best sellers but they have several years they released at least a game a month. Which is insane output compared to other publishers/devs) to dig into their catalog to avoid franchise burnout but still give them a library to point at as a selling point.

As much as I hope for strong 3rd party support, it will ebb and flow and I am pretty sure Nintendo knows this and will plan accordingly. For me as this is my last active hardware gen, I’m cautiously excited. Switch 2 is already checking a lot of my longshot boxes and have already released several evergreens with many of their most popular franchises still in reserve… so I am pleased with my purchase and see the potential to, like with the Switch, have no droughts. (I am still clearing my switch wishlist….)

The Switch 2 itself so far shows that it has a fair amount of power in the right hands and that can lead to some exciting games.

My concern is for the economic health of the gaming industry (and the wider global economic health) and where that is going. Happy to see in an industry (and surrounding industries) that is bleeding workers, Nintendo has increased headcount.

Re: Analyst Predicts A "Silent" Year Ahead For Nintendo

Ryu_Niiyama

Games have been announced into next year (including new pokemon which the franchise is currently carrying switch 2 along with mario kart) and they just shadow dropped the release date for a game (a revival of a dead franchise at that). Not sure what is silent about that.

It is only May. We don’t know what the holiday game or bundle is or the other games that Nintendo has in the works. Edit: Looks like Nintendo is going to lean hard into software.

Certainly global economic turmoil will impact them, but it will impact everyone and it feels like they are doing what they can (no stock shortages, smaller price increases, lowering digital prices, games in the pipe line, steady expansion into other revenue streams like movies, stores and parks).

Re: Nintendo Announces Sweeping Price Hikes For Switch 2

Ryu_Niiyama

Hate to say it but yep, that’s why I bought at launch.

Granted I didn’t expect logistics to take a kick to the face.

Need to go track down the meeting notes. Curious about a few financial items. I am mostly hoping employment remains steady.

All the turmoil is making me think I should get an analogue 3D and JPN PS2 sooner than later though. Make sure my retro systems are in good shape.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox Old Vs. New Designs Compared - Which Do You Prefer?

Ryu_Niiyama

I thought I liked Zero best, but seeing these side by side really showcases how nice the new versions look. They look like animals! FIRE!

The puppets explain why Slippy lost a finger.

Also this has me really excited for future Nintendo games. Nintendo’s design structure plus the added power of Switch 2 and it will be nice to see where they push my favorite franchises.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Star Fox GameChat Character Avatars And AR Filters

Ryu_Niiyama

Honestly this sold me on gamechat more than anything else. Can’t wait to see it used in other games.

Star Fox feels like the “test/push the tech” franchise. It may not stick, but it always seems like Nintendo uses this franchise to try something new. (Granted that doesn’t include the game itself as it has been remade several times. )
