Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch 2: Year One - Looking Back, How Would You Rate It So Far?

Ryu_Niiyama

I love the switch 2 so much I am at the point that I have insignificant gripes that I normally don’t have. Mainly I want new joycon2 colors and am awaiting my Zelda edition. The system is pretty much what I wanted: iterate on switch, improve the hardware and more 3rd party support.

As usual I can’t buy or beat games fast enough so I have a steady buffet of entertainment and Nintendo is one of the few devs I trust will keep steady releases. (Bethesda. Please get TES6 out while I still have vision. Thank you. ) I do still juggle switch and switch 2, but I’m losing interest in buying switch versions to have the “most access” and just going with the switch 2 version.

Other than that, just waiting on microsd express to come down in price so I can get a 1TB card (not a switch 2 complaint but since I am digital only for switch 2 games it does make me more interested in an upgrade.). I simply hope the 3rd party support keeps up and that Nintendo gets more dev kits out. My migration back to Nintendo only has begun!

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct Might Come Our Way As Soon As Next Week

@garfreek I appreciate the apology. No harm, no foul.

As for me and my house: “ain’t nobody got time for that!” I gotta be having an absolute train wreck of a day to swing at somebody first. Like I said, usually if an article is not to my taste I simply avoid. No need to engage or try to make the author have a bad day. I do wanna see more reviews though. I can’t play fast enough to vet new games.

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct Might Come Our Way As Soon As Next Week

Ryu_Niiyama

@garfreek Where is the complaint? I simply said we can wait on Nintendo and that there isn’t a need to speculate and requested more reviews. That is a statement and a request.

I didn’t express a grievance or even annoyance. Am I not allowed to comment now?

That being said I try to avoid the rumor posts anyway so I shouldn’t bother you again.

Re: Dynasty Warriors 3 Remaster Gets Switch 2 Release Date, Switch Version Cancelled

Ryu_Niiyama

As expected. Hoping more 3rd party devs drop switch support. Not because I don't want the support, but because we have a better chance of release parity if devs focus on Switch 2 rather than have them split focus on the entire switch family. As it is still easier to skip Nintendo entirely. I want as many games as Switch 2 can handle. Obviously Nintendo and 2nd party devs can do whatever they want. I suspect indies will stick with switch for now.

Re: Round Up: The First Previews Are In For Star Fox On Switch 2

Ryu_Niiyama

There aren’t really that many remakes. As many of the games people misremember as remakes are reboots or reimaginings with different stages. Brain just smooshes it all together.

Anyway, game looks good. I’ll get it some time next year. Trying to focus on Switch games to clear out my wishlist. Will start going all in on Switch 2 games next year. Hopefully my den will be fully set up by then.

Game looks good. Too bad I don’t play games on my phone.

However it is good that Nintendo has a mobile focus. Many younger people are not going to play consoles at the same rate older gens did. And with gaming becoming more expensive and cost of living going up, mobile will be more of a mainstay. Nintendo goes where the users are.

Re: The Witcher 3 Is Getting A New Expansion, But Not On Switch

Ryu_Niiyama

@DennisReynolds I didn’t say I don’t like that this exists. No part of my post said that. I literally stated “not sure how I feel about it yet”. I also never said extending games is a new thing, rather I talked about the increase of it and gave examples. And concluded mentioning ratio increase. I am aware there is a witcher 4 game coming out. That has little bearing on what I said or why. The focus of my comment is not on the game itself but rather its age and thus the platforms originally supported and how that support has changed on the same game. (Hence my examples of HFW which dropped PS4 support, GTA/Skyrim are everlasting ports with content gated on newer systems and Nintendo having Switch 2 and switch now that I think about the wiiu ports content. )

Again, either you didn’t read my post or you responded to the wrong person so I still don’t understand the point of your reply. As I think there is some confusion here, I am just going to move on. I know sometimes people like to shotgun replies when they think someone is being negative (my post is again not negative but instead concerned which I also stated) so I think that may be what has happened here. I will make the assumption here that you are looking forward to the expansion. Wonderful! I hope you enjoy it. Note my concerns, which were not what you replied to, in no way diminish my hope that you have a good time gaming.

Have a nice day.

Re: The Witcher 3 Is Getting A New Expansion, But Not On Switch

Ryu_Niiyama

I know everyone else is lamenting possibly not getting this, but I’m more concerned about this being the direction of gaming. Due to long dev times and cost are devs just gonna staple expansions and upgrades to old games and drag people to the next gen that way? “Hey that game you bought 12 years ago? well it’s not done now but if you want to play the new content you have to buy it again for the next gen.” We are seeing this for a lot of games now. Horizon Forbidden West’s expansion burning shores, GTA 5 or Skyrim were always funny examples; even Nintendo is porting switch games with switch 2 exclusive expansions.

At first I didn’t really notice because it meant old games I love (or don’t care about) are getting refreshes/expansions without waiting on a full remake. However, as I start to look big picture and I think about how fast actual sequels came out when I was a kid… I am not sure what is better. A game that lasts over a decade or sequels in a five or so year window. Gaming as a landscape feels like it is losing that constant fresh content to inspire brand loyalty.

As an ps5/series x gamer it makes me feel there are less “new” games coming out, something I don’t feel with switch 2 even if I don’t buy every game they release. Just feels like different approaches. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I have enough backlog, multiplats and indie games to play, so maybe it isn’t a big deal. Older systems had remakes and ports of old games too, I just feel the ratio is changing.
