Re: Dbrand Admits Its Joy-Con Detachment Response Was "Spectacularly Terrible"

Ryu_Niiyama

@Jade37 No one “cultivates” a death threat. Full stop. A product/money/whatever is not worth a person’s life or instilling the fear (no matter how temporary) for one’s life. I know human life is traded cheaply in this world and that there are price tags being put on lives (have a president and a rando person compete for a heart transplant and see who wins) however, for everyday people that don’t deal in power/wealth and ruthless calculus, it is never ever a valid response to issue a death threat unless your life is threatened itself (at which point it is a promise of self defense). If folks are that unhinged then they can’t function in society. A person can get mad/frustrated without being violently angry.

Re: Dbrand Admits Its Joy-Con Detachment Response Was "Spectacularly Terrible"

Ryu_Niiyama

I am so sick of people thinking death threats is a way to express discontent. Especially in a world where folks are unhinged enough to be serious about it even if they (hopefully) can’t follow through. None of the items or statements involved are life threatening to the consumer. So it ain’t that serious. Folks need to figure out how to function in society.

Edit: I was working Apple Tech support when Jobs said what he said. I got cussed out so bad (luckily for me I love giving the legal response…Apple has canned responses if you verbally abuse or threaten legal action. It’s the fastest way to render the call useless. And can get you blacklisted for support) by so many people. I have no tolerance for people that think buying something means they have bought the right to abuse others.

Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display

Ryu_Niiyama

This is one of those issues that I feel comes from a perception issue. I am certain the engineers that designed the switch 2 and its prototypes tested for perceived issues. So if a large enough sample sized noticed some visual artifacts combined with trying to meet a certain baseline spec. Once they found a product that passed and was greenlit budget-wise they started production.

For me at least the end result is satisfying. I don’t visually perceive any issues (which is welcome after the 3DS tried its best to burn my retina out) and it looks colorful and vibrant. For most, the screen complaints won’t be an issue.

Re: Smash Bros. Director Sakurai Laments 'Unsustainable' AAA Game Dev, Discusses AI And Uncertainty

Ryu_Niiyama

Something has to give. AAA games are massive and expensive and yet the market still demands more and more from them. Plus a game failure can destroy a studio. That is a tightrope that devs dedicate years of their lives to.

Personally I would prefer to see games reduce in scale (but I play a lot of games in different genres and budgets so I have tons of smaller games that I prefer to AAA games.) and. I feel that they have tools to make the job easier/faster. AI is one of those tools.

Re: Nintendo's Strict Policy On MiG Carts Is Creating A Problem For Secondhand Switch 2 Buyers

Ryu_Niiyama

Well I mean it is in the TOS. It is super scummy that the folks that violated the TOS are offloading the systems to unsuspecting users. But they were pirating so not surprised that they are robbing folks in real life as well. Hope the folks that bought the system second hand can get their money back (also the system has been out for what 2 weeks? A “cheap” used system should immediately be suspect.)

Re: UK Charts: There's No Stopping Mario Kart World And Switch 2

Ryu_Niiyama

@PharoneTheGnome I am not going to be the best help. I don’t have the game on any other system (never been into Harry Potter…the craze passed me by as a teen) so I have no comparison to offer. However the game looks smooth for what little I did play, at least in comparison to the switch version. I really only played long enough to make sure my save data was installed and to install the Japanese language pack.

Re: UK Charts: There's No Stopping Mario Kart World And Switch 2

Ryu_Niiyama

@PharoneTheGnome Nope. The switch 2 version is its own build. So it simply applies a discount to the switch 2 version once you verify you have the switch version. Migrates over your save data though (granted I only had played enough to get the discount). Explains why all the other companies do the switch 2 files as upgrade packs to prevent this. (otherwise I would upgrade my entire library for a fraction of the cost lol) Ah well, gift horse and all that. (I am stuck with the physical version of rune factory for that reason.)

Re: UK Charts: There's No Stopping Mario Kart World And Switch 2

Ryu_Niiyama

@Medic_alert I only found out about it because a user mentioned it here. I promptly went to gamestop bought the game used and an eshop card, got the switch 2 version and returned the switch version same day (bought more eshop credit so I did end up getting more games). Best launch game deal though!

Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"

Ryu_Niiyama

Been mostly playing hand handheld since my stuff is in boxes. I have no issues with the screen. Granted, I never opened my OLED switch (will do so in two months) so I can’t compare, but I have been playing both switch and switch 2 games and the screen looks great to me. That being said I assume the Zelda edition will be OLED and I am defo buying that.

So far I am very happy with the system (moreso than I expected in fact) and I am happy I jumped in day 1.

Re: Former Nintendo Execs Fear We Might Be Waiting A While For A 3D Mario On Switch 2, Thanks To Donkey Kong

Ryu_Niiyama

The release schedule is steady. Everyone forgets that there was a switch direct before the Switch 2 direct. With both combined, there are new games set well into next year. I had to literally give myself a cut off as I have too much to play that’s new (Plus new to me and old is new again) and I need to be focused on buying switch games to clean out my wish list. Don’t get me wrong, the folks that only like 1 or two franchises are screwed (but they always are). Anybody that plays a lot of genres however is in a food coma right now. Let DK and Pauline have their game and let it breathe. Not everything has to be Mario Time all the time.

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

Ryu_Niiyama

It has been a week and there is a new mario kart. (Plus updates to existing mega sellers) Third parties will sell more slowly. Not to mention folks don’t usually buy a bunch of games and a new system, usually one or two just to make the thing work. There is also a massive BC library to take advantage of. There are also those of us that bought a full amiibo line, which is the price equivalent of a few games. Launch is still one of the best times to be a third party on a Nintendo system. Not really a time to panic.

Re: Pauline's Age In Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Revealed

Ryu_Niiyama

@Lofoten Yeah but depending on the girl that last growth spurt is big. I am short/average US height for a woman but gained a foot in height between ages 13 and 14. (Like my body gaslit me into thinking I was gonna be tall…) I have two cousins that are six feet and they gained the last of their height at 15 but were short (but lanky) before the last spurts hit. Plus folks forget 13 is still young adolescence.

Considering this is a cartoon character I would say Pauline looks normal but not yet her adult height. Puberty starts kicking girls’ behinds at around 11 (some are unlucky and get that early enlistment) and is pure body horror until about 15 (I have a few unlucky cousins that were still growing at 17). A good example is Mei Ling from Turning Red who is 13 and just entering puberty (lucky to have it start so late). Also Pauline is mostly shown next to DK who is massive.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida Says Sony Doesn't Really Consider Nintendo As Competition

Ryu_Niiyama

I just wanna play fun games. It happens that most of the games I find fun come out on Nintendo. No competition at all. I have spent around $1400 on PS5 (boosted by CEs that cost several hundred dollars and that includes the system itself) while switch is probably around $14,000 (I’m likely severely under estimating but don’t wanna think about that lol).

That being said Tech Forward imo doesn’t mean graphics only (Not that they slouch there. Nintendo games pop and have tons of detail. They just aren’t photorealistic). Nintendo has been pretty ambitious with the actual tech under the hood (and with game optimization) so it is always odd when people act like Nintendo just cobbled together tech using a toaster and some legos.

Re: More Than 2,800 Switch 2 Consoles Have Been Stolen From A Semi-Truck

Ryu_Niiyama

My question is how?! Unless the driver was in on it or went somewhere to sleep and didn’t have a camper/long haul truck because otherwise you would think somebody would notice people breaking into a truck and shifting cargo. I used to load and Unload these types of trucks (former fedex employee) with phones (so smaller boxes, higher volume) and PS3 (during holiday rush so mixed volume) , doing so isn’t quiet and it takes 30-55 mins for a person (with rollers) to do.
