Re: Nintendo Prepping For All Switch 2 Eventualities With 'Out Of Stock' Signs

Ryu_Niiyama

@Kiyata What is the exact number of demand? No company can predict exactly how much a product will sell (they can guess of course) and considering this is a global launch they have to balance manufacturing along with the logistics and hope that is correct for the initial surge. Especially since Nintendo leverages short preorder periods to keep current hardware selling.

We all know every switch owner isn’t buying a system day 1 but aside from preorders (which include scalpers) how many exactly are gonna buy day 1? They can only estimate and they made manufacturing run contracts years ago. It’s not like they have a factory in house or at every subsidiary. And many products have various parts made by various manufacturers (boxes for example are usually not made by the same factory that makes the product. I know this from personal experience. ) Not to mention the logistics of putting these products on a ship that will still take time to get to its destination.

These systems sell at a (small) loss or a low profit margin after software buy in. It is always a bad idea fiscally to over stock than understock. At least with understock they will get sales data and use that to adjust orders as they go. Manufacturing and logistics has a lot of moving parts. This is not a just throw money at it and press the button scenario. Lots of moving parts that take weeks (if not months) to complete. Consoles last years. Plenty of time for those that want one to eventually get one.

Re: Switch 2 Exclusive Yakuza 0: Director's Cut Gets An Extensive Overview Trailer

Ryu_Niiyama

@TheExile285 hope you don’t mind me answering. At the time of release (2015) this was the sixth mainline game made so it had graphical improvements and it set the stage for the kiwami games (remakes of 1 and 2) to be made (the engine use started with yakuza 5 which came out in 2012) . It provided a lot of backstory for both Kiryu and Majima (I loathe Majima but apparently this game made him more popular which made his expanded role in kiwami go over well) and shrunk the player character count to two as opposed to Yakuza 5’s five. For those that only play the English versions it was also the next game after 5 as ishin didn’t come out in the west until the remake (I still prefer the original).

It also was the start of the games that came out right before 6 (0 then kiwami). Not quite filler but gave the staff time to work with the engine while they worked on 6. There are changes to the battle system that the kiwami games didn’t implement (to keep them like the original without retooling the whole game). As usual different minigames and arcade games. Plus they were good PS4 adverts (the series was still straddling PS3 at that point all my games are ps3). As 6 was the first ps4 only game. I think 6 was one of the first with Japanese language (don’t quote me this was years ago) as I own the western copy instead of Japanese which was unusual for me as I imported the series to play in Japanese.

At this point the main takeaways are: Set in different city (for Majima) and in 80’s, more backstory (prequel), different minigames and arcade games, different fight leveling system. More coherent and focused story (5 got a little cluttered).

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For June & July 2025

Ryu_Niiyama

My primary focus is switch games (rune factory and macross are on the docket) for the next two years or so but I’m getting mario kart world and street fighter at launch. Beyond that just waiting on Virtua Fighter 5 REVO. Will probably get Donkey Kong so I have two major switch 2 games this year. Otherwise I will work down the switch wishlist and will pick up ghost of yotei (PS5). Between these and Assassins’ creed shadows (series x) I am already full up for the year.

Edit: finally picked up spiderman 2.

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

Ryu_Niiyama

No farewell for me. Just like the majority of my systems, my switches will remain in use. I want to use the OLED screen (which is still boxed up lol) and the original resolution of games in handheld mode. Especially since my switch 2 will be both digital only and used primarily for Switch 2/enhanced games. My library is too big and too physical to transfer to switch 2. So it’s literally “look, new system” to me. Switch 2 is for games I can’t play on switch.

Plus my switch wishlist is like 500 games strong. That last Switch direct didn’t help lower that at all. Aside from must haves I won’t be buying many switch 2 games until I work that down. But I am fine with switch 2 being my VIrtua Fighter/Street Fighter/Soul Calibur 2/mario kart world machine for a while.

Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

Ryu_Niiyama

Welp just waiting on the amiibo payments to pull (surprised they are taking so long but I am doing in store pickup). Everything else is paid off. Supposedly yunobo will be available launch day so I will try to get one. Otherwise I am not gonna worry about it. Just waiting for the GC controllers to come back in stock (no rush. I have the adapter and a wavebird). Will have a nice setup time in august. 1 hour of PTO was approved so I can pick everything up no stress.

Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

@The21zonz I work two jobs (I am an American. Two jobs is the only way I can save and afford to actually retire). But my recommendation for those that can’t… put 10 bucks aside each month after the launch of a new system. Most game gens last 5-10 years. That is more than enough time to have money at launch. And it’s low enough that you won’t notice it. Granted this wont help you until switch 3 or maybe switch 2 oled but it works. I have yet to miss a launch no matter my work situation because of that savings plan. (Put in a high yield savings account) if you can’t save 10 a month focus on working on your finances first. That is more important.

Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

Ryu_Niiyama

Eh. While I am EXCITED, I am also moving (and working 80 hours a week) so no real interest in unboxing anything. I took an hour of PTO so I can swing by all the stores I need to go to and wait out UPS. Then throw everything into a moving box. In August I will set it up. Getting a few launch games but mostly gonna work on my switch wishlist. Once that is cleared I can move on to buying switch 2 games. Technically this is two to three systems to me as I will use the switch 2 (and having to re set up my av set up…kill me now) as an excuse to set up my lite and finally unbox my oled.

Re: Nintendo Today! Update Prevents Users From Recording Promotional Videos

Ryu_Niiyama

@Yosher The purpose of apps like this is to not only drive engagement but to monitor it. That’s why it requires a Nintendo Account rather than being a simple news feed. They are using the data to drive Nintendo User specific marketing. It’s like filling out a survey every time. Second hand viewership doesn’t contribute to that engagement/tracking. And at the end of the day it is their content which they are free to lock down.

Re: Nintendo Today! Update Prevents Users From Recording Promotional Videos

Ryu_Niiyama

I just look at the app. Easy peasy.

The carrying case video is soothing. Also gonna buy one now.

Edit: Nintendo still has a sense of enthusiastic pride about their content. They still want to surprise and delight customers (listening to Krysta and Kit sorta complain/humble brag about how Nintendo wanted things just right drove that home for me). And in this age of leaks, intellectual theft, and simultaneous consumer apathy and voraciousness, things like Directs and apps are a way to facilitate that attempt to deliver a curated but well crafted marketing campaign. The same masses that demand information now, now, now and how dare they have to wait on content, also complain about PR and news bulletins being too sterile (despite being easier and faster to put out) and argue over when the next Direct is happening and voraciously consume dev interviews (none of which is required to simply inform the customer base).
