Re: Opinion: NSO Subscribers Outside Key Markets Get Less, And Nintendo Should Fix That

Ryu_Niiyama

@CaleBoi25 Ha, I mean I am pretty consistent as a person, I think. But thank you. I try to make neutral but somewhat general observations (general because I am not a business expert (I do speak from experience and education however), this is a consumer site so the audience here doesn’t care anyway and getting into the weeds only detracts from enjoying the hobby. Now get me on a financial forum or a tech forum and I will sound more dour because I am willing to go down the rabbit hole), because I don’t come here to argue (seriously I have no interest in convincing anyone of anything…we are strangers on the internet). I come here to enjoy Nintendo gaming. Which most of my comments are centered around anyway.

That being said I like conversations, but if assumptions and name calling (one can get one’s point across without insults of accusations) get thrown around I lose interest quickly and don’t feed it anymore. Manners cost nothing. If you have something to say, you don’t have to pound on the table.

Look I want cheap games and all the merch too, but like world peace, that is a pipe dream. So I prefer to just be realistic.

That being said having played games for 37 years of my life, regional access has come a long way. From a neutral perspective, it is mildly impressive frankly as we get games that might have skipped regions or systems the first time around. And what companies haven’t directly bridged themselves, other companies have simply with shipping and storefront access.

Side stepping video games, as my original comment addressed global business as a whole, I have a whole apartment of Sailor Moon merch that 14 year old me would have sold a kidney to even be able have access to purchase (as I was working by then). Like, yeah a lot of stuff is annoying but is not that bad.

Re: Opinion: NSO Subscribers Outside Key Markets Get Less, And Nintendo Should Fix That

Ryu_Niiyama

@Questionable_Duck Not really. Different companies (size, management structure and region), different risk, different footholds (due to product offerings). Just because Nintendo, Sony and MS sell videogames does not mean they are all entertainment companies. As such they have different avenues of approach. Hence why I said it is an iceberg. Companies don’t work by “well the other folks do it so we will just do it, it will be easy”. Square peg, round hole does not work (well) in business. Again, not a simple problem and not a simple solution.

My comment was general because the factors I listed all companies face in global markets.

Edit: Goodness, I seem to have caught your attention for some reason. I’ll edit to respond later.

Edit after reading all responses: Ah we are at the “shill/blind defense” ad hominem. Absolutely nothing I can do with that as that shows your actual motive rather than discussion (or actually reading what I wrote). As such I’ll go ahead and save myself the time and disengage now. Have a nice day.

@MrCarlos46 While I am not a resident of LATAM so I am not even vaguely familiar with the legal restrictions of that region but in general yeah it is some sorta combo of a lot of what I mentioned (I left stuff off to keep my post shorter and neutral). Your region may may have more legal complications for setting up of a regional office, there may even be an issue with language/cultural barrier (often times companies will use a proxy company to have locals that know and understand the market and languages involved instead or in conjunction with sending staff to not have too many layers in between operations and the actual work on the ground. Also can be cheaper and safer.) as at the end of the day they are a Japanese company. Hammering out contracts can take time as well.

Sometimes it is a wonder that Globalized Business even works at all with all that is involved (and that’s in a perfect textbook scenario).

Re: Opinion: NSO Subscribers Outside Key Markets Get Less, And Nintendo Should Fix That

Ryu_Niiyama

@ArcadeSixties Yeah. I don’t rush to the comments with text walls anymore, but this opinion piece was concerning because it vents frustration with no regard for real life restrictions. Nothing wrong with not liking something or feeling “left out”, but vitriol without even a limited understanding (or expressing that understanding when venting) of why something works/is done that way only opens up space for misinformation and misplaced anger.

It’s one thing when randos on the internet do it, but even for an opinion piece when a publication publishes a viewpoint (doesn’t matter they agree with it or not) that shapes mood, knowledge and reactions. Journalistic integrity demands that any publication should be mindful of that. If the article had addressed some of the real life reasons as to why companies do what they do then that imo opens discussion and even political (as in the correct usage of the word as in laws and regulations and how a voting populace can shape them) discourse but that isn't what this opinion piece seems to be trying to do. As such this would have been better served as a forum vent rather than using the position to publish on NL to create this as it is currently written.

Re: Opinion: NSO Subscribers Outside Key Markets Get Less, And Nintendo Should Fix That

Ryu_Niiyama

There is no easy solution. Nintendo (and every other company) has to navigate tariffs, taxes, shipping and manufacturing logistics, licensing, new offices and hiring or proxy offices, marketing and that’s just to set up and start in a different region. Doesn’t even get into sales projections or ROI or government regulations (or the economic/banking logistics which is its own nightmare).

The digital storefront has helped, but there is still so much that goes into establishing a market and having it flourish. Every company on Earth battles this. Sometimes all a company can safely do is limited market efforts or ignore the potential region/market itself. Every company customizes by market. EVERY. COMPANY. Also it does not do for a company to spread itself too thin. All this costs money and oversight.

It wholly sucks, but there is an iceburg of reasoning and limitations behind it. Otherwise every company on Earth would sell their products in every market in the world (and that would be bad because what that would require to make that work is likely not ethical or safe for local business). I know the convenience of consumerism is frustrating when it doesn’t work in your favor, but this is not a simple problem and does not have a simple solution.

(Edit: Last thing before I head to work. If you gonna tag me, actually read what I put. Don’t infer or assume. And if you do the ad hominum/emotional type response I’m just gonna ignore your response. Ain’t nobody got time for that.)

Re: Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar Achieves 500,000 Sales In less Than A Month

Ryu_Niiyama

@Ks123 Original Series is Story of Seasons and is known in Japan as Bokujo Monogatari (Farm Story/Tales). Natsume translated the series in the west and named it Harvest Moon (they own that name). When Natsume lost the translation rights they made their own games and used the name they owned. But Story of Seasons never ended (in Japan it is still just Bokujo Monogatari).

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Switch And Switch 2 Direct Game In New Infographic

Ryu_Niiyama

25 certain purchases for me. Plus still a number from previous directs still not released or just released in the past 2-3 months. Also all the amiibo. As usual, an expensive Direct for me. Just gonna stockpile eshop credit at this point.
From my perspective, pacing has been on fire for Switch family. Even better, a lot of my wishes have been granted.

Got only one big PS5 game on the way so gonna focus BF on Nintendo.

Re: "It Was A Bit Of A Perplexing Experience" - Hideki Kamiya On The Fan Reaction To Bayonetta 3

Ryu_Niiyama

While I hated the story for Bayo3 I would rather that devs make the game they want to make (within reason) or close to it instead of trying to fit some nebulous mold that doesn’t really exist because fans have different interpretations of a franchise. Folks will talk about what’s “traditional” while not understanding what motivates the dev or what they see and then complain that they are ruining the franchise or can’t do their job or whatever. Instead of recognizing that the franchise may no longer be for them (or that it was never what they thought it was). Gamers are so far removed from the process and I know the goal is to make something people will buy, but if you hate working on it because the gamers or shareholders have pretty much ruined the experience what’s the point. Like can someone actually like their job on this planet?!

That being said, for me the franchise is dead, but I won’t knock if SEGA greenlights a new game. I just have no interest in playing it. It does suck seeing what had become a Nintendo exclusive franchise go down though.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment 'Treasure Box' Set Revealed For Japan

Ryu_Niiyama

@Slideaway1983 Japan is still a stationary and paper forward society so (and they have been on an acrylic kick for a long time now) so often they will include clear sheets or clear files in produch packs. I have seen them interchangeable, but clear sheets are usually single page paper protectors that you put in a paper stack to separate them out or keep the paper un wrinkled (size A4 is the paper size) and clear files are file holders but not the heavy paper pocked ones of the west, instead it is a thin acrylic with a design to hold papers. I have so many of them from anime merch that I use them to hold receipts, bills and other items I still have as paper. the acrylic is usually see through hence “clear” sheet or file so you can tell what’s in it.

Re: Best Super Mario Games Of All Time

Ryu_Niiyama

Mario 64 is still my favorite and I will always prefer 3D mario but games that incorporate 2D (like odyssey) have made me go back and play older games. Mario Maker also helped as I had started remaking SMB but tweaking the parts I didn’t like.

Re: Opinion: I'm Celebrating Super Mario Bros.' 40th Anniversary By Finally Finishing It

Ryu_Niiyama

That’s a good idea. SMB was my first game but I got it way too young (I still say my mom bought the system for herself anyway lol) and it kinda soured me on standard platformers (as SMB is what my brain associates with as the standard) but I am starting to return to old games in part for the brevity but also to mark them off the list. And now I have the patience, skill and time constraints to appreciate them more. Since I have NSO I don't have to hook my NES up. lol.

Re: New Kirby amiibo Will Apparently Be Nintendo's "Most Expensive amiibo Ever"

Ryu_Niiyama

Hate to say it but I am kinda happy because it keeps the scalpers at bay. Means I don’t have to kick my budget and can just save for release or preorder like a normal game. I am annoyed that I can’t exit amiibo though especially as I buy them for the functionality first. Oh well. Time to adjust the budget! Just gotta figure out where to put them…

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Prices Are Live, And It's Sticker Shock Time

Ryu_Niiyama

@GrailUK I kept saying that people complained during the VC era and that NSO wasn’t the culprit as to why they didn’t have these games. We are getting more and more collections from 3rd parties and Nintendo is really experimenting with product nostalgia with all the NSO controllers (that VB stand is awesome). Allowing for so many games to come back. Often better than ever. I am so excited for the VB stand even though I can’t use it. I wasn’t willing to pay for a headache, but a nice little novelty prop (As I whine about my physical gaming library) sounds great!

Prices suck everywhere, but a company isn’t running a household budget and a person has to make their own fiscal decisions. Plus if folks didn’t buy when it was MRSP or when it was VC (or the second hand market that is so sacred to some) the new collections prices won’t change things.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

Ryu_Niiyama

I really enjoyed it. Switch family is maintaining a diverse lineup and always happy for the mario celebrations as it kicks off the lead up to my bday celebrations later.

I really need Nintendo to expand the wishlist to 500 though. For now I will only be buying what is on my wishlist because I am at the limit so it is getting hard to keep up with what I want.

OK here’s the bank account hostage situation so far. (will be editing till I hit the word limit lol)

PS5: Ghost of Yotei CE
Switch/2: Dragon quest 1+2, VF REVO, all the amiibo, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Yoshi, Tomodachi life, Monster Hunter Stories 3, FF 7 Remake, Pokopia, Kirby Air Riders, Katamari, Two Point Museum, Suika Game Planet, Hyrule Warriors, FIRE EMBLEM, Pokemon legends Z-A, new mega man collection (on sale).
