Re: Best Animal Crossing Games Of All Time

HammerGalladeBro

Actually, for the first game we can say there's

  • Doubutsu no Mori (Japanese N64 original; 2001)
  • Doubutsu no Mori + (enhanced port of Doubutsu no Mori for the Gamecube; 2001)
  • Animal Crossing (enhanced Western localization of Doubutsu no Mori +; 2002 NA, 2003 AU, 2004 EU)
  • Doubutsu no Mori e+ (enhanced Japanese localization of Animal Crossing; 2003)
  • Dòngwù Sēnlín (Chinese release of Doubutsu no Mori for the iQue Player; 2006)

Wrap your head around that.

Anyway, as for myself, the first game (whatever that means) will always be the best of the non-island-based games due to the Acre system. It makes it easier not getting lost. I also feel is the best mainline game for a single-player experience, I haven't played since Wild World (played a bit of City Folk, though), but I feel in recent entries there's a lot of emphasis on communication with other players to be fully enjoyable.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (11th April)

HammerGalladeBro

I'll probably continue my journey to 141 A Ranks in Sonic Heroes (GC version) to unlock the Super Hard Mode. I'm currently at 120, but considering how flexible the ranking system is here, I can get between 3 to 5 A Ranks on a single day.

Once I get All A Ranks and clear Super Hard Mode, next will be getting that copy of Shadow the Hedgehog that's doing the rounds in my city

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Star Fox Assault (GameCube)

HammerGalladeBro

@NintendoWife I believe the reason for that is because the background of the Japanese cover is apparently shiny and this is just a bad scan. The back of the box is also shiny.
Untitled
Untitled

Here, a better quality scan.
Untitled

I'm torn, I like both for different reasons. There's the gameplay implications on the western cover (yes, including on-foot), while showing the multiplayer implications on the Japanese one.

At least it doesn't have the Japanese manual cover as the box art.
Untitled

I like how the Japanese cover has a similar composition to the Japanese box art for Star Fox Adventures, though.
Untitled

With all that said, I don't want to repeat the same thing for a third time, so I'll just link you to my thoughts on what Nintendo should do with Star Fox. I got the game from a friend last year and immediately liked it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th April)

HammerGalladeBro

Watched The Super Mario Galaxy Movie last Thursday with my best friend, her sister and our nephew, so if that counts there's that.

Gaming-wise. I got the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 theme in Tetris 99, also I plan to continue getting A Ranks in Sonic Heroes (GC version) now that I found a good strategy to get them and it's not as hard as in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
Got the game on March 27th with my originalsave file still there at 76/120 A Ranks, as of April 4th, I got it up to 102 A Ranks.

Good gaming, everyone. And good viewing for those who plan to watch TSMGM this weekend.

Re: Feature: Our Top Ten Favourite Easter Eggs In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

HammerGalladeBro

I'm not sure I count the Donkey Kong one as an easter egg or a reference as much as a cameo since he was there in the first movie.

Everything else was definitely there but somehow they didn't distract me to make me react like "Hey, I know this thing" and shouting it, apart from the Super Mario Maker one and Mr. Game & Watch. Kinda wish Nintendo officially distributed the level on Super Mario Maker 2.

Re: Tetris 99's New Crossover Event Celebrates Super Mario Galaxy, Unlock A Special Theme

HammerGalladeBro

Played about 3-4 matches to unlock the theme. Is it me that I haven't played in who knows how long (and only really do so for new Themes) or is the competition getting relentless?

Somehow with only two rivals attacking, me my play area was costantly getting full in the blink of an eye. Either that or 4+ players attack me without having KOs.

I really feel Tetris 99 should've had a manual or a tutorial to explain how the attack system works. It's been almost 7 years since the game came out but I still don't understand how the game determines you're a target to someone else unless they specifically target you with the L Stick.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

HammerGalladeBro

Finally watched it, so I can give my collective thoughts. (skip if you don't want to be spoiled in case you haven't watched it)

I did like it more than the first, however I'm not sure how I feel about Rosalina being the damsel-in-distress or Peach and Rosoalina being sisters. I understand the idea was for them to be sisters in the games, though.
Not sure if I'm glad or not that Donkey Kong isn't here beyond a brief cameo.

The licensed music wasn't as intrusive as in the first movie. I think I only noticed it twice and that's it. Maybe there were more but thankfully none of them had lyrics.

About Wart, Mouser and Birdo, I was somewhat right. With that said, I cannot really be angry about their screen time since they were the time I expected them to be and did what I expected them to do.

The references aren't as standout as in the first movie. The only reference I'd say was like "in your face" was the Bowser Jr. trap that looked like a Super Mario Maker level on his screen. Everything else was like par for the course in the sense that you know it's there in the background. I'd go as far as to say the references kinda stop being distracting.

Now let me address the elephant in the room: the Nintendo cameos.
R.O.B. and Pikmin are barely on screen, their time on-screen was not enough to make an argument that Smash Bros. will be a movie like everyone in my feed is suggesting (thank god).
The Pikmins don't even show up with Olimar or any of the humans from the series. They're just...there for a second and that's it.
R.O.B. appears twice but doesn't do much beyond being a slow information booth employee, in reference to how slow the real R.O.B.s actually move.
Fox is the only standout here because he's the only one actually integrated into the story, even if he's not part of the entire movie. I liked how when Mario and Fox meet the first time, it makes you think they know each other or that there will be a confrontation between them, but then they just become buddies. With that said, I did not expect to see Mr. Game & Watch (complete with his Smash Bros. beeps), though it was just a drawing Luigi made to briefly fight Bowser Jr. He's never referred to by his name and Game & Watch is never mentioned (in-universe, I'm gonna assume Luigi's a fan of Game & Watch, remember Nintendo technically exists on Mario's real world).
I think R.O.B. mentions his name (sorry, I had to leave the room briefly when he showed up the first time) but the Pikmin aren't called by their names.
Another Mario character I didn't expect to see is that Monster Hunter-esque dragon from Super Mario Odyssey
.
All in all, of the Nintendo characters shown, I think only Fox is the one with potential for something, whether it's its own thing or a Mario movie spin-off.

The second post-credits scenes gets bonus points for showing Daisy with the tan that was brought back for Mario Wonder and has since stayed as well as having her strong personality she has always had. However, I'm not sold on her design yet.

Overall, I'd give the original a 6, maybe a 7 if I'm in a good mood, but this one is a solid 8 for me.

Re: Random: AI Has Ruined A Classic Mario Cartoon On MeTV

HammerGalladeBro

It's pretty egregious, and it's a shame that these production companies can't trust its audience to just appreciate the original vision.

That's because said audience will likely dismiss a re-release if it hasn't been remastered. I don't like the result, but I can understand why they did it.

Re: Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Has Been Delisted From Switch eShop

HammerGalladeBro

I don't know about physical copies going up to crazy price. Maybe for a bit, but I'm expecting FOMO to do its thing and then prices to go back to the usual.

None of the previous games really went up that much in subsequent years, especially when we had London 2012 3DS, Sochi 2014 and the two Rio 216 versions being delisted as well.
The only exception I can think of are maybe the Rio 2016 games. The Wii U version I usually see it going for 1000 Mexican Pesos, estimate it at between $45-$50, and that's when I see it offered. The 3DS one tends to be cheaper but it's also one I don't see offered much.

Re: Random: Jack Black Jokingly Suggests A Third Mario Movie Will Arrive In 2029

HammerGalladeBro

Yeah, I'd say a third movie is a given, especially if that post-credits scene is anything to go by. My guess is they will take Odyssey's concept and travel around the world.

Anyway, as someone who hasn't seen the movie (I will in a few hours), I'm glad my feed hasn't been spammed with photos of the post-credits scenes. Unlike Sonic 3, where literally after I watched it almost all posts related to the movie had to include them.

Re: Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Has Been Delisted From Switch eShop

HammerGalladeBro

As someone who has played every game in the series except the Rio 2016 versions and the arcades ones, this one is the most pick-up-and play of the entire series, but unfortunately also the weakest. Unless you consider the Tokyo 1964 events as the Dream Events.

Normally, I would blame SEGA for such short notice (or , in this case, a lack of), but for this specific game, I'm willing to blame the IOC.

As an aside, is Tokyo 2020 The Official Video Game also delisted?
I don't have my Switch to check, but my guess is that it's been delisted as well.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO (GameCube)

HammerGalladeBro

@Mana_Knight my only guess on why NA has the ONLY FOR label is because at the time of NA release the Gamecube version the Xbox version, also labeled EO, was not available yet.
By the time the EU GC version was released, the Xbox version was already available.

The PS2 on the other hand has had the game since 2001, but isn't labeled EO.

The odd thing is that the NA PS2 version has the same cover art as the NA EO releases on GC and Xbox. Meanwhile EU and JP PS2 versions have a completely different cover art.
Untitled

Anyway, despite the fact I had the NA version in my collection at some point (and there's the possibility I can get it again), I'll got with EU/JP this time.

Aside from the obvious "why aren't Ryu and Kyo/Terry on the cover?", I cannot get past the inconsistentcy on the NA cover: Why is Kim depicted in the CAP/Kinu Nishimura style while the others are in the SNK/Shinkiro style? At least one of them should've been in the CAP style to compensate.

Maybe if they were 3 characters for each side instead of 2 and featured a variety from different series. Maybe if they had Ryu, Maki/Morrigan, Kyosuke (representing Street Fighter, Final Fight/Darkstalkers and Rival Schools) alongside Terry, Ibuki and Athena (representing Fatal Fury, The Last Blade and The King of Fighters and Athena's own games by extension).

Re: Fox McCloud Blasts Into The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

HammerGalladeBro

I like how the Dragon Ball scouter is proyected this time, though.

With that said, I'm glad he doesn't look like he came out of Secret Life of Pets or Nick Wilde from Zootopia. However, I hope he has as little screen time as possible, I can accept R.O.B. and Pikmin being there because they have appeared in Mario games and in the latter's case it could be implied they traveled from the real world to the Mushroom Kingdom, but Fox?

Having said that, I hope his inclusion leads to more people knowing him (I know my best friend, her sister and her nephew will), which eventually leads to a new game.

Re: Hands On: Pokémon Champions Promises Top-Tier Battling, But At What Cost?

HammerGalladeBro

I'm torn about this one. It has what I wish Pokémon Battle Revolution had in what essentially looks like a Pokémon Maker (stats, moves, abilities), but I don't care about playing competitively with others.
I actually liked PBR only because I was able to use competent (not competitive) Pokémon from my DS versions to battle CPUs.

If PvP is what it offers only, I'm sadly gonna pass. I would consider investing on it if those Pokémon you recruit could be transferred to Pokémon HOME, though.

Re: Nintendo's Apparently Cutting US Switch 2 Output After Lower Than Expected Holiday Sales

HammerGalladeBro

I still don't own a Switch 2, but the day I do, it wll be more to upgrade my Switch 1 from a 1.1 directly to a 2 instead of an OLED as I originally intended.
Theorethically, I already own a Switch 2 game on the NS2E of Metroid Prime 4 and I'm seeing if I can nab a copy of Kirby Air Riders an acquiant of mine is selling. Even if I still don't have a system, I could play Kirby whenever I visit my sister and nephew, they do have one.

For better or worse, systems are available aplenty around me and they're not as expensive as they were at launch. In some places they still are, though. I could've affored one last Christmas but decided not to.

Re: "New Players Won't Feel Alone" - Square Enix Partners With Google For AI-Powered Dragon Quest Companion

HammerGalladeBro

Before I can complain about the use of AI in this instance, I need them to release an English version of the game, which, considering it's been 13 years since it first came out, I assume a localization is at the bottom of Square Enix's priority list.

If they don't want to commit to the MMORPG worldwide, at least localize the Offline version, which I've read is closer to traditional Dragon Quest than the Online version.

Re: Picross S Konami Antiques Edition Features Castlevania, Contra, And More

HammerGalladeBro

@krupkat What they hey? Talk about an obscure game, I swear it didn't pop up for me* when I browsed the eShop when the Capcom and SNK games were listed there. Apparently it came out at the same time as the Switch 2, adding it to the list.

*Looks like it's only available in the select countries for some reason. When I clicked the links on the game's official website, the Playstation Store and Steam pages gave me errors, most likely due to my location in Mexico. The Xbox link is removed, though. Sure enough, I browsed the Mexican eShop again and it still doesn't show up.

Re: Picross S Konami Antiques Edition Features Castlevania, Contra, And More

HammerGalladeBro

Oh, I almost forget. I started this as a sort of running joke, but considering how often Jupiter announces a new Picross game, I update the list from time to time to keep track of how many/which Picross-branded games are available on Switch and now Switch 2. Updating my comment from the last time.

According to my previous comments and depending on how you look at it, there will be 23 24 or 32 33 Picross games on Switch and Switch 2.

  • Picross S1-9
  • Picross S+ (contains the puzzles and music from Picross e1-9 on the 3DS and then some; the initial purchase of Picross S+ has Picross e1, the rest are available as DLC and also marks the first international release of Picross e9)
  • Picross X: Picbits vs. Uzboross
  • Picross -Logiart Grimoire- (originally released on Steam as an Early Access game as Logiart Grimoire)
  • Picross S Genesis/Mega Drive & Master System/Mark III Edition (SEGA themed)
  • Picross S Namco Legendary Edition
  • Picross S Capcom Classics Edition
  • Picross S SNK Classics and NEOGEO Edition
  • Picross S Konami Antiques Edition
  • Kemono Friends Picross
  • Picross: Lord of the Nazarick (Overlord themed)
  • Picross: Records of the Shield Hero (The Rising of the Shield Hero themed)
  • Picross S Doraemon & F Characters Edition (Fujiko F Fujio themed)
  • Picross: Juufuutei Raden's Guide for Pixel Museum (featuring VTuber Juufuutei Raden; also available on PS4, Xbox Series X|S/Windows and Steam as a non-Picross-branded game; may not be available in your country, see my reply to @krupkat below)
  • Mario's Super Picross (via NSO), now with mouse support, as in the original SFC version.
  • Mario's Picross (via NSO)

(Copy-paste of my previous comment)
It goes without saying that there are now more Picross games on Switch/Switch 2 than there were on the 3DS, and that's including Picross DS, Picross 3D, Picross 3D: Round 2 as well as the Virtual Console versions of Mario's Picross and Mario's Super Picross.

I'm gonna say this as a Picross fan; with the amount of games there are, it's probably best to stick to the branded ones that appeal to you, the Picross e9 DLC in S+, Picross X, Logiart Grimoire and maybe the occassional S game.
One day I'll get the grand total of puzzles between different games.

Re: Picross S Konami Antiques Edition Features Castlevania, Contra, And More

HammerGalladeBro

Is that the name for Konami's line of classic games, much like Namco and the Namco Legendary line?
I'm not really much into Konami, but I'm hopeful there are puzzles based on Antarctic Adventure. More nonograms are never a bad thing for me.

However, a little correction to the story.
Yes, there's a nonograms game based on Story of Seasons, but no, it's not Picross-branded and Jupiter wasn't involved in that one.

@Johnny_Arthur per the Community Rules.

I don't think it's out of malice or prejudice, more like it is so everyone can understand what we're all saying/commenting.

Commenting about a topic on a foreign context, like my comment of the Mario cartoon and the other shows in Mexico, is fair game, though.

Re: Random: A Classic Super Mario Cartoon Is Heading To MeTV Toons In The US

HammerGalladeBro

Here in Latin America (specifically in Mexico), it's been available since around November/December 2025 on Samsung TV Plus as its own channel, which also includes The Legend of Zelda and The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, but sadly not Super Mario World.

It is the Latin American Spanish dub and it has the licensed music of the original airing.

As a matter of fact, Samsungs TV Plus over here also has a Sonic channel where they air Sonic SatAm and Sonic Underground, but for some reason not Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. For that one you have to watch it on Amazon Prime. Some lesser known (and not quite as good) streaming services in Mexico such as Tubi* have the complete Donkey Kong Country cartoon as well.

*Tubi in Mexico is not the same Tubi as in the US. It doesn't have any of the Cartoon Network/Hanna-Barbera/Looney Tunes stuff. Aside from the DKC cartoon, my other highlights of the service from what I've seen are the Anpanman movies and Ghostbusters I, I need to check what else it has.
