Re: Nintendo Announces Launch Line-Up For Switch Online Virtual Boy

HammerGalladeBro

I was hoping Japan would get Polygo Block, the unreleased Japanese version of 3-D Tetris. Instead they'll get 3-D Tetris as well.

Zero Racers looks like a mix between 2D F-Zero and the Tunnel Scenes from X on the Game Boy and X-Scape on the DSiWare. As much as I don't like F-Zero, the latter similarity got my attention.
X-Scape itself looks like it could've been developed on a Virtual Boy devkit.

EDIT: Upon watching the Japanese trailer, I had no idea D4 Enterprise had the rights for T&E Soft games and that Hamster (aka the Arcade Archives company) had the rights to Athena games.

Re: Rumour: Switch Online GameCube Releases Might Have Been Leaked

HammerGalladeBro

I'll take original Pikmin 2 only if it has all the product placement intact. Prime 2? As much as I'd like a remastered version, I'm in no hurry to play it again. I don't have the need to face that damn Quadraxis right now.

For third-party games, I'll take the Sonic games in NSO if that's the only way SEGA can be arsed to bring them to Nintendo systems again.

Re: WarioWare's Original Soundtrack Has Been Added To Nintendo Music

HammerGalladeBro

The songs Four Seasons and Drifting Away had no right to be the bangers they are.

Top 2 favorite songs of this game. Top 5 includes Reality, Wario's Adventure and Skating Board: Stage. All the music in the game is an audio pleasure.

When they add WarioWare: Get It Together! I hope they include Penny's Song (Spanish Version), which is not available in-game but on NoA's YouTube channel.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island

HammerGalladeBro

At least the western version doesn't have the proper and confusing full name, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Anyway, as far as box art goes, I think I'm going with Japan by virtue of it being new art and not a reused cover, as much as I like the SNES original cover.

@bring_on_branstons Well, technically in Japan the SNES/SFC original is officially called Super Mario Yoshi(Yossi) Island, even as of the NSO re-release.

The funny thing is that there are unused Super Mario World 2 graphics in the western GBA version for the Yoshi's Island title screen, but there are no equivalent Super Mario graphics for the Japanese GBA version.

Re: Nintendo Producer Kensuke Tanabe Has Seemingly Confirmed His Retirement

HammerGalladeBro

Seeing his name in a lot of my all-time favorites such as Metroid Prime, Mario Strikers, Punch-Out!! Wii, ExciteBots: Trick Racing, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, the WarioWare series and LEGO City Undercover, I'm glad he had a hand on those.

Even his apparent failures such as Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash, Paper Mario: Color Splash and Origami King did get appreciation from me. And I'm sorry hate mob, but I did enjoy Metroid Prime 4 as well.

Thank you Tanabe, your retirement has been well earned.

Re: Pokémon's Game Boy Development Process Took A "Great Deal Of Trial And Error"

HammerGalladeBro

@JohnnyMind There's also the whole "adding Mew after debugging". Nowadays that sounds like par for the course with patches.

I swear the original GB versions were so unstable even without modifications or trying to do things you're not supposed to. I'll never forget a battle I had with a Lass, she started the battle like normal and somehow ended it as a Machoke back sprite. Even my sister saw it and was like "what the hey did you do?". I cannot remember where or which specific Lass it was, though.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

HammerGalladeBro

I'm currently in Lava Pool on my second playthrough, and I'm still enjoying my time with it for what it is and not for what it doesn't. This is the game that made me get a Switch 1 in the first place, and in the years following its announcement not many games made me glad I got a Switch until I played Metroid Dread and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, eventually Prime 4 joined them. I know it's odd but I still prefer the 3DS and Wii U as a combo over the standalone Switch 1. However, this is a different topic to the one at hand.

I think I've played enough to form my opinion on Prime 4.

I'm someone who actually likes Other M (cannot speak for Federation Force since I haven't played it), so in a sense the writing feels the opposite to that game, as in Other M is about Samus being a human (nothing wrong with that) and Prime 4 shows the Federation members being humans (again, nothing wrong with that and it shows that not all of them are like "let's turn Metroids into bioweapons").

We already know the discourse around Mackenzie, and now we have it with Nora Armstrong and how she fangirls about Samus. Again, a fair reaction when you see your inspiration. How would you react if you had the chance to meet Samus for real?
Besides, just like how annoying Mackenzie is according to the internet, Nora is just as much, as in, she only shows her fangirlism during the Lava Pool cannon deactivation, which is only about 5-10 minutes and not more. After that she doesn't show that much fangirlism, if any.

I've been positive about the game, do you want to hear my negatives? (scroll after this paragraph if you don't)
-The Green Energy collecting on itself isn't bad, it's how much you have to collect to get the Legacy Suit, let alone for the Gallery unlocks. Thankfully, for the latter it only has to be done once per Switch user.
-The VI-O-La is definitely underused. I would have expected it to be used on the final battle against Sylux.
-That ending definitely left me with more questions than answers. Did the Federation guys die or Sylux spared them?
-Shouldn't there be Space Pirates looking for Sylux in Viewros if they were also within the blast range at the beginning?
-The items Tobaki gives you appear at random while the drone marks all of them in your map, meaning that you have to check the marked areas randomly and hope for the item you're looking for.

Some say the game feels too much like Prime 1, and that's fine by me, I was asking for more Metroid Prime as a series, and more Metroid Prime as a series is what I got. It plays like Metroid Prime, it sounds like Metroid Prime, it looks like Metroid Prime. Personally, unlike Mario and Kirby, I play Metroid for the lore and characters, not so much for the gameplay, that's a bonus for me.

Now, I understand that's not what some were asking and wanted something completely different. So here's where I legit ask: Back when the game was announced in 2017, what was your expectation for this game? What did you want to see from it?

I think nobody, myself included, truly thought about this prior to its presentation in 2024 and we just built some high expectations without even knowing what we wanted.
Keep in mind, some of talent that worked on the Prime Trilogy are not with Retro anymore, so it wasn't going to be the same as the original trilogy.

I apologize, this comment was longer than I had expected.

Re: Boom! The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 Update Is Now Available

HammerGalladeBro

@Strawblaze when you manually update games there's the option. A host with the latest version of a game can distribute the update in a manner somewhat similar to the DS/3DS Download Play.

I'll take this opportunity to once again reiterate that if a game has DLC, you can try to get the one that's cheap or free to be elegible for updates even if you don't have the game itself.

This can be useful if there's a game you intend to get later to be ready with the updates by the time you get it (especially for those with GBs worth of updates).

That's what I did with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Sparks of Hope, Pac-Man World Re-PAC, Mega Man 11, Sonic games and even Animal Crossing: New Horizons itself (I still don't have the game, but the option to download Happy Home Paradise via the NSO subscription allows you to download updates as well).

Re: An Overlooked Disney Collection From Digital Eclipse Has Been Rated For Switch

HammerGalladeBro

I will definitely be there for the Switch release. Just keep a physical away from LRG.

I just wish Disney were more open to let companies re-release their older games. My Switch would love some Magical Quest, Castle of Illusion and Mickey's Speedway USA.

EDIT: Also, other than Disney, who has the rights for a re-release of Mickey Mania and an obscure Japan-only game for the Super Famicom called Donald Duck no Mahō no Bōshi? The latter was published by Epoch, but I don't know if after they stopped releasing videogames they kept the code/rights to their games.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2025 'Year In Review' Is Available Now

HammerGalladeBro

Mine looks like this:
Untitled

I can advocate for these results.
I bought a lot of ACA NEOGEO games throughout the year plus Capcom Fighting Collection 2 in September and Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection in October made sure Fighting was one of my most played genres of 2025.

My playtime was reduced on April thanks to Jump Super Stars and Tingle's Balloon Fight DS, both of which I got on early April, then again on June and July due to my various Gamecube purchases of late May.

I'm trying to remember what made me go back to the Switch on May.

Re: GameStop Kicks Off 2026 By Reportedly Shutting "Hundreds" Of Stores

HammerGalladeBro

@Wexter doesn't sound too different than what we have here in Mexico with GamePlanet, which more often than not I tend to call LamePlanet.

However, one thing I will give them is that they occasionally have the odd good sale. Last week when I bought WarioWare: Move It! at 600 Mexican Pesos (a little less than $30 and so far the lowest price I've seen for that game in my area), they had both versions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A at 900 Pesos (a little less than $45 and so far the lowest price I've seen for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in Mexico).
If it wasn't because my sister already has the NS2E of that game, I would've bought a copy.

Those odd sales are the reason I still buy there occasionally. And when I do, I go straight to the point.

I think the Japanese cover is meant to evoke the same vibes as the Japanese Mario Tennis 64 cover.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th January)

HammerGalladeBro

It's my last weekend of vacation before I go back to work. This time will be...

Tetris 99
Almost missed the current Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 3.0 theme thanks to my internet that for no reason said "Oh, you wanna play online? Let me be on the sh****est quality I've ever been and disconnect you constantly".
Thankfully, I managed to get the theme.

WarioWare: Move It!
I bought a copy yesterday at 600 Mexican Pesos (roughly $30) just beforea cold storm hit my area, so I'm playing that as well. I'm taking my time with this one because I know WarioWares are over before you know it.

Re: Mario Tennis Fever Officially Reveals amiibo Functionality And Every amiibo Supported

HammerGalladeBro

At this point, many amiibo in my collection are really only for display purposes, which is fine by me. I've always seen amiibo as pseudo-Smash Bros. trophies, even for non-Smash releases.

I got various amiibo such as Pac-Man, Sonic, Snake, Simon, Cloud, Kazuya and eventually I'll get Terry and Sora, fully aware that they won't be supported much by Nintendo or their original companies outside of "scan any amiibo to get regular items".

Capcom seems to be the exception here since they have use for Ryu and Ken (but not Terry?) as of SFVI, they also have the upcoming Resident Evil amiibo and have consistently been releasing figures for Monster Hunter.
