@DemonKow It all comes down to poor optimization. Look at another HD 2D game like Star Ocean 2, it looks better and plays better than Eiyuden Chronicle on Switch.
I can understand why Sakaguchi wants to stay away from bigger franchises like Final Fantasy now. He seems content with working on smaller scale projects nowadays and every Mistwalker game has been mostly mobile games.
Just wish the Last Story would get an HD release for modern platforms though.
In Amazon Canada this costs $114 CAD without tax. Very steep price to pay but I am interested in it. I can't justify spending that much on 1 game though.
In terms of brand new games Unicorn Overlord. As for other notable games Paper Mario TTYD and Persona 3 Reload are fantastic remakes that I really enjoyed as well.
The voice cutscene cuts I thought was really weird when I played the demo like the review mentioned. I'm thinking of picking this one up sometime. I have never played a game in this series and always heard good things about it.
The connected narrative is one of the reasons why I haven't given them a shot and it would take me ages to play all of them.
Like some have already mentioned Nintendo never did specify it was exclusive to Switch. I have a good feeling this will be a dual release like Breath of the Wild. Either way I'm excited to finally play the game when it comes out next year
Just give me any new Mega Man game that isn't a mobile game and I'll be happy. Don't care which series it is but my preference would obviously be Battle Network, Classic or X.
Capcom has amazing IPs but they have only focused on Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter in the last decade. I want to see them focus on some other franchises.
Was never a fan of the show but I grew up playing the SNES Power Rangers games. This looks like this is going to be a fun beat em up, will definitely pick this one up.
I think the advancement in tech has made it more difficult to distinguish what is retro. PS3 for example is retro since it's been off the market for quite sometime with outdated visuals. But it doesn't feel that retro because it plays very similar to modern consoles. Same goes for the 3DS and the 360.
We've also gotten to a point with graphical leaps aren't as dramatic as it once was which makes it even harder to distinguish what is retro as we move on from older consoles.
For me I go by console generations. Does the console still have games coming out? Is it still available on the market to purchase? How long has it been since it's been discontinued?
If it's been 5 plus years off the market that's usually when I define the console retro.
I think people kinda forget what the main purpose of Engage was. The game was meant to be a throwback to the franchises roots and it was originally an anniversary type game to celebrate the history of the franchise but was delayed due to COVID.
Not trying to use that as an excuse for the narrative but as a long time fan I loved the cheesy MCU plotline the game had. I also love Three Houses.
The next new FE will be interesting to say the least. But to put all the eggs into one basket and focus only on the social sim aspect is a terrible idea. The social sim aspect has always been a bonus for me personally but it wouldn't surprise me if they try to expand upon it again.
I do think it will be a while before we see a brand new title, still think we're going to get the rumoured FE 4 Remake then we'll see what Intelligent Systems has planned for the next mainline game.
For me a remaster is you take the original game and make improvements upon it such as better visuals. Add some nice little quality of life changes to streamline things and maybe increase the framerate. At the end of the day it's still the same game from before but with some improvements.
Zelda WW HD, Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD all fit under this category. Same with all the HD Final Fantasy games, at it's core it's still the same game.
A remake is a total revamp. Models are built from the ground up, new story elements are added, additional gameplay mechanics and changes made to the core gameplay. But obviously remakes can also remain very faithful to the originals.
Persona 3 Reload, Fire Emblem Echoes, Resident Evil 2 Remake are all great examples of remakes in the modern era.
Honestly the animation sprites in battle look kinda meh compared to the beautiful sprite work in Battle Network. I'll keep tabs on it though since Inti Creates usually make solid games.
Nintendo has been very good when it comes to Zelda leaks so I'll believe it when I see it. But it wouldn't surprise me if she is the main character at some point.
Having Zelda as the main hero could lead to some very fun gameplay ideas like using magic etc.
Had a feeling this would be poorly optimized for the Switch which is a shame but not surprising with these kickstarter type games. In general though I was planning to pass on this.
Maybe it's because I've never played Suikoden but for whatever reason this just doesn't seem interesting to me.
Terrible news to hear about. I wasn't the biggest Tales fan but I always loved seeing her water colour artwork. It was very unique and distinct and had some shojo flair to it too.
Hoping her family the best given the terrible circumstances.
For anyone worried about performance the game runs perfectly on the Switch. The game also looks great in portable mode. I've Played almost 20 hours so far and it's great.
Story is very similar to Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon where you have a blue haired prince returning home to liberate the land. Besides FE homages it takes ideas from FF Tactics, Shining Force 2 and many other SRPGs. Just a great game if you love the tactical genre.
Already have the game delivered last night, haven't played it yet since I was trying to beat another game but I'm looking forward to putting many hours into this.
As for the generic story I'm honestly okay with that, not every plot needs to be overly complicated for me to enjoy it. Seems like Vanillaware wanted to pay tribute to classic fantasy tales. It seems to take the story of the original Fire Emblem and remodel it. Kinda funny how many things it pays tribute to FE staples like the blue haired protagonist and supports.
The 3DS is retro yes. The console came out more than 10 years ago which is crazy to think about. To give a comparison when the Wii came out in 2006 the N64 was already considered retro and that also had a 10 year gap at that point.
Things just feel different now since "older" consoles feel more modern and advanced than previous generations.
I'm honestly ok with a more quiet year for Nintendo personally since it will allow me to try to catch up with my ever growing backlog.
As for games I would love to see HD remasters of the 3DS Zelda games like Link Between Worlds, OoT and Majora's Mask 3D. Port Twilight Princess and WW then you got the ultimate Zelda machine.
A bit odd they are releasing this version of the game but not the releases that are actually already translated and dubbed. The gameplay has also aged kinda poorly where to run into an enemy to attack is still weird.
Shadows of Valentia is probably my favourite remake Nintendo has done. It expands the story while adding full voice acting, updating graphics while keeping the gameplay true to the original. It remade a barebones Famicom and gave it new life.
Links Awakening, Metroid Return of Samus, OoT 3DS and Another Code Recollection are all noticeable remakes as well.
It's not a deal breaker for me if I know the ending to a game but I'd prefer to keep things as spoiler free as possible. For example we know Mario will always beat Bowser but the way he beats Bowser and how the ending plays out is always a fun little suprise.
If I knew the ending to Odyssey prior to playing the game I think my enjoyment of it would generally be the same but I would had robbed myself of that great moment.
In short I always try to avoid spoilers for movies, shows, books and games.
For anyone who doesn't know the original game was an adult visual novel that had nudity and sex scenes. Kinda funny how popular the franchise is nowadays
This is coming from someone who has never played these games before. I beat the first game and still working through part 2. If I had to rate it I give it a solid 8. The presentation of the game looks great, I found the story to be interesting enough to keep me going and the voice acting is well done. Not to mention Ashley is a likable character.
After playing all those big titles from last year I find it relaxing to play a smaller scale game like this to just unwind after a long work day.
@Giancarlothomaz It's probably a mix of voice direction change and Samantha Kelly voice aging a bit. But even in Mario Bros Wonder Peach's voice wasn't as high pitched as we normally heard in past games I noticed too.
I try to buy used games if I can, mostly third party titles. Unfortunately Switch games that are pre-owned aren't even that much cheaper majority of times unless it's a shovelware title.
As for trading in games I haven't done that in years, you barely get any value back for what you trade in.
FE Engage is just a fun game that doesn't take it's story all that seriously and it's meant to be a throwback to the series' roots which a lot people didn't seem to understand.
I still love Three Houses but I also love Engage for it's superior gameplay and MCU like plot.
Paper Mario TTYD HD, Another Code and Peach Showtime are on my list to buy in 2024. The Unicorn Overlord game does look interesting so it's also on my radar.
Honestly I'm kinda ok with Nintendo having a bit more of a quiet year to start since I need to get through my backlog of games.
@wanghosom It's not really all that surprising since DQ is much more popular in Japan while Final Fantasy has always been more popular overseas. Doesn't help that Square tried too hard to cater to Western audiences and made 16 into a game of thrones clone with shallow RPG elements.
On the topic of hockey I would buy a hockey focused Mario game like what they did with Strikers and Sluggers. I know the Mario Olympics have hockey as a mini game but having a dedicated Mario Hockey game would be awesome.
Pretty cool to see a series that was so niche before now have mainstream appeal. It really all started with Persona 3 then snowballed from there and Persona 5 has brought the series to new heights.
I'm not the biggest fan of the series since the games tend to drag on but there's no denying how great they are
Honestly nothing interested me at all in terms of Switch related content. Which to be honest didn't suprise me since the VGAs in the past rarely has any Nintendo content to get hyped about since the show caters mostly to the Xbox/Sony crowd.
As for non related Nintendo games Visions of Mana looks interesting will maybe pick that up for on my PS5 down the line.
I agree I think Nintendo has done as much as they can with the world that they built with BoTW. The games really are incredible and it's going to be interesting to see what they think of next.
Honestly I think the design is kinda cute, has that gothic lolita look. Doesn't look as bad as I thought it would after I heard the concept behind WaPeach.
The box art really is gorgeous. Surprised Capcom got away with a T rating for this since I remember Dual Destinies was originally rated M due to it having some pretty grizzly CG art. Makes me wonder if they had to tone down or censor some parts.
