I never watched the show but grew up playing the games on the SNES. They were decent beat em ups back in the day and I'd probably wait for a sale before picking this one up.
It was a really dark time for JRPGs during the PS3/360/Wii era. Then Xenoblade came out and reminded people that Japanese developers can still create something special. What made it even more impressive was that it came out on the low powered Wii and Monolith Soft was still able to create such an expansive world.
This honestly is a minor story since Nintendo basically owned Monolith Soft along with the Xenoblade IP already and I highly doubt this will interfere with their ability to create more content.
As some have pointed out I wish Nintendo would purchase both Xenogears and Xenosaga from Square Enix & Namco. It's a shame Monolith Soft can't ever give those games a proper HD remaster since they don't own the rights to those games
On a side note I've been chugging along with playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and already put over 120 hours into it. It's a monster of a JRPG and such a great game.
I'm gonna pass on watching the show. Like the Oscars it's a snooze fest and it's generic as it gets. There's also a clear bias towards Western made games, AAA mainstream or games that cater to the Western market.
Top games that I played on the Switch this year would be:
1. Zelda Echoes of Wisdom - Just a really fun 2D Zelda game with tons of creativity.
2. Famicom Detective Club: Emio the smiling man - a dark story that had me shocked near the end.
3. Unicorn Overlord: a fun call back to classic strategy games and put tons of hours into this one.
4. Paper Mario the thousand year door: first time I ever played this one and I understand why people love it. Truely a timeless classic.
5. Another Code Recollection: An underrated gem that had a lot of heart put into this remake of games. The story of Ashley was really interesting and I enjoyed it.
I highly recommend playing the first one to start. You technically could start with any of them but the first game really leaves a great first impression and all three games have a great dub. There isn't a JRPG series quite like it.
The sheer amount of time and effort put into these games is impressive. Recently I've been playing Xenoblade 3 for the first time and I regret not playing it earlier it's such a good game.
Analysts have been talking about the demise of consoles for the last 10 years now but I doubt that will happen. Consoles still have a place in the gaming landscape.
Nintendo consoles on the other hand are worth owning simply because of their deep library of first party games that can only be played on Nintendo hardware.
Also I wouldn't say Sony vs Microsoft is the equivalent of Ali vs Frazier since PC gaming trumps both in terms of power. As a PS5 owner I will say if you own a gaming PC it honestly makes owning a PS5 or Xbox obsolete since both of them lack any real exclusives worth owning.
Honestly 7/10 is what I kinda expected but that's not a bad score and based off what I've seen this is right up my alley since I love old school type JRPGs.
@sportvater I'm the furthest thing from a Sony fanboy but I wouldn't go as far to say PS2 is a crappy console in comparison to Switch. The PS2 was a gold mine when it came to RPGs and it had some of the best Sony exclusives during that era.
Now if we're talking about the PS3, PS4 or PS5 I can see why they're not worth owning especially with the rise of PC gaming. Plus the pool of first party Sony exclusives is very shallow nowadays.
I have mixed feelings towards Sony handhelds. The PSP was great since it had some pretty neat exclusives and tons of great JRPGs. The Vita I never bothered to buy since it had nothing I was interested in playing and Sony left the thing to die.
I honestly don't have any interest in another PSP since I already have a PS5.
Only thing I wish is they would dub these games in English again like they did with the older ones in the franchise. It's not a deal breaker but the option would be nice.
I honestly have zero interest in buying a Xbox handheld. After buying an Xbox Series S it's basically just collected dust while I use my Switch and PS5. Cool for people who enjoy the Xbox brand but for me personally I would pass on it.
I'm the same way, it's one of the reasons why it takes me forever to get through a backlog since I always focus on one game until I beat it. The one comment where the poster said they were playing 8 games is impressive lol
Started playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this weekend and finished Torna for the first time last night. I'm preparing for the release of X by finally going through my backlog of Xenoblade games that I hadn't played yet and it's been a blast.
The TV or display will vary but I never found the Mclassic to be worth it. The upgrade in visual quality is minimal and I never use it for Switch games.
But it's handy for older consoles like GameCube, PS3, Wii, and PS2. The image quality is much better with the Mclassic.
@NintendoNoLifer Ya I meant more NoA since we all know the story behind it and how reluctant they were to localizing the series in North America. But I don't think Nintendo of Japan could had predicted how much popularity it's gained in such a short span of time. It's one of the great underdog stories in gaming in the last few years.
It's good to see Xenoblade solidifying itself as a Nintendo pillar. During the Wii days Nintendo had such little faith in the game and over a decade later it's become a great series.
Those sales numbers are more similar to older games in the Zelda franchise pre BotW which is still very good. Echoes of Wisdom was a really fun game and I would love to see the Princess get more games where she's playable.
With saying that though I would still love to see more 2D Zelda games that are more traditional where you use the Sword and Shield again. Using echos is fun but sometimes it feels your kinda just standing around while your echo does all the work.
Metroid Prime 4 is a day one buy for me. We've waited a long time for it and I'm looking forward to finally getting a chance to play it. Like many people have said I do think there's a good chance it's also going to be on Switch 2 similar to BoTW and Twilight Princess back during the Wii/GameCube days.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is right behind it though in terms of Switch releases.
I recently played this years ago via English patch and I was impressed how creepy the atmosphere was. The game is very confusing on where to go though so I never got around to beating it.
I wouldn't say the Wii U isn't worth owning in 2024 especially if you have a large number of old Wii titles so for that reason alone it's worth having in my opinion since many of those Wii titles haven't been ported over to modern consoles.
I've owned this game for the Wii U for a long time but never got around to playing it. Depending on the changes I might pass on this but great for people who have never had a chance to play it.
Didn't realize it costed him that much to post these videos and as someone who watched it for entertainment I can appreciate the hard work he put into it.
As for a new game I think it's safe to guess Smash Bros since it makes the most money. Kirby I don't think he's worked on those games in a long time despite being the creator. Kid Icarus I would love to see that get another chance.
My bad for not adding commentary to my suggestion, didn't realize until now I should had added that lol
For Hokkaido for those who aren't aware it's an old school point and click adventure game similar to Ace Attorney and Famicom Detective Club. The game is a big influence on the mystery novel adventure genre. It's technically 2 games, the first part is the original version that got remade then it adds another story that takes place 18 years later with the same characters from the first game.
@xmkbest I have both consoles as well but it's Switch for me since it's my preferred way to play JRPGs. The portability factor makes it an easy decision for me.
It honestly took me years to playthrough Final Fantasy 6. First time I tried playing I dropped it since I was burnt out after beating FF 7 prior to playing 6. Then years later when COVID hit I decided it was time to beat this game on my SNES Classic Mini. After beating it I finally understood why people love it and it's my favourite in the series.
$129 in Canadian dollars is a steep price to pay for an alarm clock. I'll stick to my regular alarm clock lol The concept of this is a neat little thing though.
@Pillowpants Ya I was also surprised to see Jedi Survivor still getting ported to the PS4/Xbox One. Even Methaphor Refantazio is also coming to last gen consoles too. A lot of new releases are still supporting these older consoles for things like you mentioned even though the PS5 and Series X have been on the market for 4 years now.
I don't see an issue selling modded consoles but the guy made the mistake for trying to sell a modded Switch with the intention of using it for piracy during a time when Nintendo is still making the console and takes piracy very seriously in the last decade. This is probably due to the DS/Wii era where it was so easy to hack or play off flashcards.
The fact that the guy even got a warning from Nintendo but still didn't listen is all we need to know right there.
Glad to see Zelda doing well. I've been making my way through EoW and it's really fun to play. The combat took a while for me to get used to it but it just clicked for me once I got better echoes and upgraded my sword meter.
Honestly the top choice is not surprising at all lol Rosalinde and Eltolinde both remind me of Deedlit from Lodoss War which is a plus.
Ultimately I ended up pairing Alain with Scarlett since it's basically the Canon pairing but Melisandre and Rosalinde are definitely the more interesting characters.
@sketchturner I agree Other M isn't as bad as some people say it is. I've played all the Metroid games but still really liked it. Obviously the story is controversial but I liked how they made Samus feel like a human being rather than a mute robot.
Their importance to Nintendo continues to grow with helping develop big projects like Zelda and creating great JRPGs with the Xenoblade series. They're one of Nintendo's best game development teams and the success of Xenoblade cemented their legacy so far.

@anoyonmus I'm well aware of that. Capcom is a business and the big three bring in the cash but that doesn't mean they should only invest time and effort into 3 franchises.
Call me pessimistic but Capcom said the same thing about Mega Man and that franchise still remains dormant outside of Collections. To me this statement just means we might see more anime or merchandise and a game is a far from a guarantee.
Capcom really only cares about three franchises nowadays: Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil.
Never played these games but always knew that the games were beloved by many. Time to add another game to my huge JRPG backlog on Switch. Looking forward to trying this out next year.
Whether the leak is real or not all I know is whenever Nintendo announces a release date for the new system I'm gonna buy it especially if it ends up being backwards compatible.
Also people kinda forget that when it comes to portable Nintendo consoles the changes from system to system weren't as drastic. Gameboy to GBC to GBA then we had DS to 3DS. I can't imagine Switch 2 being that different in terms of the way it looks but obviously the hardware will be much more powerful which is all I need to jump aboard.
I've beaten Hokkaido Serial Murder case and thought it was good. Not many people have talked about it but to summarize if you like Ace Attorney or Famicom Detective Club you'll probably enjoy it.

Re: Random: Monolith Soft Showcases Piles And Piles Of Xenoblade Chronicles Scripts

The story really does get emotional much more than I was expecting but in a good way.
Xenoblade 3 has my favourite cast of characters, they really do feel like underdogs and you just wanna root for them throughout the game.
