Would love to see Konami localize Tokimeki Memorial. The retro 90s anime art style looks sweet and even though I don't normally play dating sims I'd be willing to try it out since how influential the game is.

Lots of JRPG goodness in the partner showcase. Trails in the Sky Remake, Atelier, Castlevania, Rune Factory and Suikoden were the highlights for me.

Also hope Konami will localize the Tokimeki Memorial remake even though the chance seems slim. It's part of gaming history and it would be cool to finally see it released in the West.

Well looks like I have no excuse to not jump into this series now. Never played a single Trails game before but the remake looks great. Makes me wonder though if this will also end up on Switch 2 since it has a generic 2025 release window.

Honestly I'm more interested in that Trails in the Sky remake that they casually threw into the highlight reel.

The DS Castlevania games were always my favourite. Great to see Konami finally re-releasing these after all these years and I'll definitely pick this up.

Absolutely I already have it pre-ordered. Played the first two games and loved them so this was a no brainer for me. Plus ever since I played Ace Attorney I've become a fan of the Visual Novel genre especially the mystery murder type ones.

I've never played the Xenosaga games but have always been interested in playing them due to my experiences with the Xenoblade franchise.

I find it a bit strange they claim that Xenosaga wouldn't generate enough interest to warrant the cost of a remaster and yet they went ahead with an HD Release of Baten Kaitos which is even more niche than Xenosaga.

But honestly looking at their past recent efforts I'd be worried to see how Bandai Namco would handle a Xenosaga remaster. Tales of Symphonia HD was as lazy as it gets, Baten Kaitos HD was also a poor effort by Namco where they even removed the English dub of the game for no reason.

I'm pretty excited to get a chance to play through this. Seems like this will have a bit more of a horror feel compared to the first two games which isn't to say the first two didn't have a creepy atmosphere at some points.

This will need to be updated to include the Fate Stay Night Remastered version and include the Muv-Luv Trilogy which has a really interesting but depressing story.

I still have my old SNES laying around and the original copy of Doom that had that bright red cartridge. I might pick this up but I wonder how much better this port is.

Luckily each game in the Collection let's you swap to the classic soundtrack from each respective game.

As a fan myself I totally get what you mean, for example I love the SNES soundtrack of FF IV but dislike the remake soundtrack. Sometimes things just don't translate well when you go from 16 bit sound to real life orchestra.

You can swap and play with the original SNES soundtrack. In my opinion this is the best way to play FF VI in terms of staying true to the original game

That's the one mechanic that I hated in both BoTW and TOTK. Especially in ToTK where the Master Sword has been recharging for thousands of years to strengthen it and it's still as fragile as ever lol

The Ontario position looks to be in Ajax which actually isn't that far from where I live. Going to the GTA then heading home would be a pain for me though lol

It's most likely Shigehisa Nakaue who's been the main 2D artist for Mario for decades. However Yoichi Kotabe originally drew the classic Mario art style back in the 80s and 90s.

"Which Series would make you buy Switch 2?"

Kinda wish this question had an option to select multiple answers. For me Zelda, Mario, Fire Emblem and Metroid are all franchises I would buy a new Nintendo system for.

For me TOTK was by far the better game that it's not even close for me but BoTW had more of that shock factor since it was a brand new Zelda game and the hype towards it's release was insane.

BoTW is also cheaper so that's probably the biggest factor right there. Especially during times like this where every dollar counts with how expensive everything is nowadays.

That is still a very strong lineup of first party games. Emio, Zelda, Mario & Luigi and Metroid Prime 4 are all on my to buy list.

Really is a cool piece of video game history and it explains the close relationship HAL and Nintendo have with eachother. Makes me wonder though if Nintendo and HAL would try making a remake of Metal Slader Glory in the future.

Famicom Detective Club and Another Code Recollection kinda proved that they're willing to remake cult classics.

As a long time fan honestly I love both games but I give an edge to Three Houses due to the Blue Lions route. Engage has the weaker plot but better gameplay.

Both games are great for different reasons. Three Houses is much more serious and the social sim aspects can be fun but also time consuming. But the overall experience is amazing it's one of the best games on the Switch in my opinion and deserves the praise it gets.

Engage feels more like a big celebration of the franchise as a whole and I had a dumb smile on my face whenever I saw old characters like Lyn or Marth. It was a clear call back to the original FE story from the first game where you have an evil dragon and you gotta kill it. The gameplay was also great the fusion and special attacks you could do in the game were fun to use.

I'm still using my Switch daily and have so many games to go through including my other systems that I own like the PS5. So I'm not in a rush at all to buy a new Nintendo console just yet.

But like with everyone else I'm excited to see what's next and what Nintendo has stored up their sleeve.

The collections are a positive sign that Capcom at least knows the games have a dedicated following still. A collection of Legends and Star Force would be the next logical thing to make.

But if we exclude the collections it's still not great in terms of new games. Since 2010 there's only been 1 new game in the entire franchise in that 14 year span. I don't count the mobile games since that's a whole different category.

Would love to see Mega Man X and Battle Network get new entries. But as of now I don't have much faith Capcom is making anything Mega Man related anytime soon. The primary focus is RE, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter nowadays. Everything else is an after thought.

The series has also been hit or miss with me. I enjoyed Symphonia and Abyss but thought Xillia was very mediocre when I played it on PS3 years ago. Dropped Xillia 2 and couldn't get into it. Played Graces and also thought it was meh.

They also used to make these games yearly which watered down the quality.

Love the 90s anime look. Inti Creates usually makes pretty fun games so might check this one out

This is a welcome suprise I loved playing Famicom Detective Club. Looks like the games sold well enough to warrant a sequel which is great. I know some people will be disappointed but I'm gonna grab this one when it comes out.

Guess that Emily Rogers rumour was true. They stated Nintendo was working on a new FDC years ago and low and behold we have one now.

Octopath Traveler was a game that I really enjoyed even though I didn't finish every character storyline. The HD 2D style was beautiful and Square knew they struck gold with it. The battle system and music were great.

Like people mentioned it's probably only the beginning of the game where he fights Ganon in the trailer or Zelda summons an echo of Link at some point.

I haven't played any of the spin offs but if I were to rank the ones I played it would be

1. Persona 5 Royal
2. Persona 4 Golden
3. Persona 3 Reload
4. Persona 3 Portable

Persona 4 has my favourite cast, while Persona 5 has the best gameplay and Persona 3 has the best story.

As a Karate Kid fan I'm definitely gonna pick this one up. The beat em up revival is in full force now

It's definitely up there with the best consoles. For me it's my favourite modern Nintendo console and SNES would be my favourite retro one.

The two consoles share a lot of similarities in the sense that both had good 3rd party support, strong lineup of first party games and both are home to great JRPGs.

Really excited to try this one out. I've only ever played DQ 11 and this looks beautiful.

Really random and out of no where. They caught my attention and I wanna know more about this horror game.

I beat Paper Mario TTYD for the first time ever and I can't believe I missed out on such a great game for so many years. Never had a GameCube as a kid so I'm glad I got a chance to experience this classic.

Hopefully Nintendo takes note of it's success and returns Paper Mario back to it's traditional turn based gameplay style.

It all comes down to poor optimization. Look at another HD 2D game like Star Ocean 2, it looks better and plays better than Eiyuden Chronicle on Switch.

I can understand why Sakaguchi wants to stay away from bigger franchises like Final Fantasy now. He seems content with working on smaller scale projects nowadays and every Mistwalker game has been mostly mobile games.

Just wish the Last Story would get an HD release for modern platforms though.

In Amazon Canada this costs $114 CAD without tax. Very steep price to pay but I am interested in it. I can't justify spending that much on 1 game though.

In terms of brand new games Unicorn Overlord. As for other notable games Paper Mario TTYD and Persona 3 Reload are fantastic remakes that I really enjoyed as well.

The voice cutscene cuts I thought was really weird when I played the demo like the review mentioned. I'm thinking of picking this one up sometime. I have never played a game in this series and always heard good things about it.

The connected narrative is one of the reasons why I haven't given them a shot and it would take me ages to play all of them.

Like some have already mentioned Nintendo never did specify it was exclusive to Switch. I have a good feeling this will be a dual release like Breath of the Wild. Either way I'm excited to finally play the game when it comes out next year

I was beginning to wonder when we'd see 2D Zelda make a return and this is a fun surprise. Can't wait to play this one

Just give me any new Mega Man game that isn't a mobile game and I'll be happy. Don't care which series it is but my preference would obviously be Battle Network, Classic or X.

Capcom has amazing IPs but they have only focused on Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter in the last decade. I want to see them focus on some other franchises.

Was never a fan of the show but I grew up playing the SNES Power Rangers games. This looks like this is going to be a fun beat em up, will definitely pick this one up.

I can appreciate the fan dedication for this but still prefer the NES and SNES satellaview versions in terms of the way it looks.

I think the advancement in tech has made it more difficult to distinguish what is retro. PS3 for example is retro since it's been off the market for quite sometime with outdated visuals. But it doesn't feel that retro because it plays very similar to modern consoles. Same goes for the 3DS and the 360.

We've also gotten to a point with graphical leaps aren't as dramatic as it once was which makes it even harder to distinguish what is retro as we move on from older consoles.

For me I go by console generations. Does the console still have games coming out? Is it still available on the market to purchase? How long has it been since it's been discontinued?

If it's been 5 plus years off the market that's usually when I define the console retro.

I think people kinda forget what the main purpose of Engage was. The game was meant to be a throwback to the franchises roots and it was originally an anniversary type game to celebrate the history of the franchise but was delayed due to COVID.

Not trying to use that as an excuse for the narrative but as a long time fan I loved the cheesy MCU plotline the game had. I also love Three Houses.

The next new FE will be interesting to say the least. But to put all the eggs into one basket and focus only on the social sim aspect is a terrible idea. The social sim aspect has always been a bonus for me personally but it wouldn't surprise me if they try to expand upon it again.

I do think it will be a while before we see a brand new title, still think we're going to get the rumoured FE 4 Remake then we'll see what Intelligent Systems has planned for the next mainline game.

For me a remaster is you take the original game and make improvements upon it such as better visuals. Add some nice little quality of life changes to streamline things and maybe increase the framerate. At the end of the day it's still the same game from before but with some improvements.

Zelda WW HD, Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD all fit under this category. Same with all the HD Final Fantasy games, at it's core it's still the same game.

A remake is a total revamp. Models are built from the ground up, new story elements are added, additional gameplay mechanics and changes made to the core gameplay. But obviously remakes can also remain very faithful to the originals.

Persona 3 Reload, Fire Emblem Echoes, Resident Evil 2 Remake are all great examples of remakes in the modern era.

Honestly the animation sprites in battle look kinda meh compared to the beautiful sprite work in Battle Network. I'll keep tabs on it though since Inti Creates usually make solid games.

Nintendo has been very good when it comes to Zelda leaks so I'll believe it when I see it. But it wouldn't surprise me if she is the main character at some point.

Having Zelda as the main hero could lead to some very fun gameplay ideas like using magic etc.

Had a feeling this would be poorly optimized for the Switch which is a shame but not surprising with these kickstarter type games. In general though I was planning to pass on this.

Maybe it's because I've never played Suikoden but for whatever reason this just doesn't seem interesting to me.
