Just give me the 3DS version in HD and that's honestly good enough for me personally. I wouldn't be against another remake of OoT but I'd rather have new Zelda games.
With saying that call me crazy but after playing the 3DS version I can never go back to the N64 version. And this is coming from someone who grew up with the N64 version of the game.
@EaglyBird Namco has never worked with Nintendo on any Fire Emblem games. It's more likely Nintendo would collaborate with Koei Tecmo again to make a new FE since they helped develop Three Houses.
But hey Namco makes great games so I'm always down for more Nintendo collabs.
I don't see Nintendo picking one particular game to adapt. It's going to be a mix of elements I think along with an original plot I feel.
Kinda like how the Mario movie wasn't focused on one specific game but ended up being an original origin story with elements of the games lore (albeit Mario never had much of a story but you get what I mean).
Like any movie I'll judge it once I see it. I'm a bit skeptical since live action video game movies for the most part have been meh, I can't think of one that's actually been really good.
With saying that I'm gonna watch it. I'm really interested in seeing who is going to play Link & Zelda. It's very ironic that Sony is producing a movie for a video game franchise that will never appear on PlayStation.
Not to be pessimistic but I have doubts about this super game. Sega makes some great games but they have a history of some major flops. This feels like it's setting up to be a tire fire but it's too early to judge I guess.
Ya the game isn't that great but it's nice to see Konami still recognized it after all these years. Sonia Belmont as a character I wouldn't mind seeing them bring her back in some form of canon. They obviously would need to rewrite her story though.
Honestly it's a subjective pick but I'm going to go with the OG version. Nothing wrong with the remakes which are equally as good but I just prefer the 8 but music of the NES version. When people say SMB3 I think of the NES version even though I grew up with the GBA one.
Gotta go with the Mario Bros. For me I can't think of a more iconic sibling duo in video games. As for Nintendo siblings there's a few that didn't make the list like Jenna & Felix from the forgotten Golden Sun.
For Fire Emblem I would have picked Erika & Ephraim as my favourite sibling duo. It's hard to pick though since FE has such a huge cast of characters. Other great siblings in FE would be the White Wing Sisters, Sigurd & Ethlyn, Marth & Elice, Ninian & Nils.
I'm the furthest thing from being a Sonic fan but the scores seem decent enough and the game looks fun if you're into the traditional Sonic experience.
As for myself I'm gonna pass on this especially since Mario Wonder is coming out a few days after.
@Chibi_Manny Ya for the most part anime video game adaptations rarely get dubbed nowadays unless it's one of the big three of Naruto, DBZ or One Piece. Spy Family the game I'm a bit surprised didn't get a dub since it seemed to be pretty popular when it came out last year.
I get why they cut dubs since it saves money but it would be nice to have more options.
@Chibi_Manny Knowing Namco they probably won't be adding English voice acting at all unfortunately. It's similar to when Baten Kaitos HD came out and they didn't bother to include a dub for that either.
The fact that Nintendo even bothered to remake this game is great to see. Another Code was one of those games where I thought was going to be forgotten forever.
It's a pleasant surprise like Famicom Detective Club when it got remade out of nowhere.
Ya can't say I'm a fan of this, I like Jpop but this sounds like they went overboard with the autotune. Never got into the whole Miku craze but hey people who love it more power to ya.
A bit off topic but that just reminded me that Sony computer entertainment is basically owned and run by Americans now which before was located in Japan and run by Japanese executives.
But I get what you are saying, I can't see Japan being too happy if Microsoft bought Nintendo.
I highly doubt this will ever happen but this isn't really a surprise they would want Nintendo, I'm pretty sure Sony would do the same thing if they had the opportunity.
With saying that though it's been clear for a long time now, Microsoft's strategy is to simply buy other gaming companies to compensate for their lack of originality.
Them buying Nintendo would be awful for the consumer and obviously I hate the thought of Nintendo ever being acquired by them.
Paper Mario is obviously the big one and for good reason. But besides that I'm honestly mostly excited for the new Princess Peach game which looks really fun to play (no pun intended).
As expected though big major announcements like the previous directs in terms of brand new games that aren't remasters and it makes sense since Nintendo is gearing up for their new console launch.
I know some people will be disappointed for this direct but if we review the entire year we got a new Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem and Pikmin game all in one year. That is as excellent a year you can get in terms of Nintendo first party support.
Thank goodness they are releasing this classic again. The only way to legally own it is to pay those ridiculous prices on eBay which some people are selling close to 200 bucks.
People who have never played it are in for a treat.
I still own the original versions along with my GameCube which is still hooked up to my TV via HDMI as I write this. So I'm probably going to pass for now until the eventual sale. Not having a Physical release in the West and no English Dub also disappointed me.
Plus Namco has had some mediocre ports recently with minimal effort like Tales of Symphonia which makes me pause before buying anything from them.
The anime art style is really giving me that old school 90's anime vibe which is great. Never heard of this until now but I'll keep it on my radar, looks pretty cool.
No offense to any Sonic fans but the series just isn't for me. I've tried getting into them whether it be classic or modern Sonic, none of the games have interested me unfortunately.
So for me I gotta go with Mario since I've always loved these games since I started gaming as a kid.
I'm going to pick this one up, I'm a sucker for JRPG type games and as a Canadian myself I like to support Canadian content as Sabotage is a Studio from Quebec for those who don't know.
Not to mention it looks great which is the biggest selling point for me.
I beat the game after 175 plus hours. Did all the main quest, got all the shrines, armour, and light roots. Did a good chunk of the side quests but my overall progress I'm guessing was maybe 70ish percent? Kinda hard to tell with a game this massive.
I got my money's worth from the game and loved it but won't be going back to it anytime soon.
Pokemon Shield was the nail in the coffin for me. I was very disappointed after playing it and it made me realize that the series just isn't for me anymore. Everything about Pokemon has gone stale for me, right down to the gameplay, story, graphics and lack of creativity.
Violet was the first Pokemon game where I had zero interest in buying it and honestly I don't regret my decision to skip it.
Metroid Prime 4 would make sense but who knows where the development of that game is at this point.
New Mario 3D game makes the most sense. I think we could also see dual releases like the new Peach game on Switch then launch for the new console. Maybe we'll see that rumoured remake of Fire Emblem 4 launch for the system too.
I'm all for it, I love the addition of Oatchi. Knowing Nintendo though they don't always add the same features from game to game. Remember Yoshi in Super Mario World? He's popular but how many mainline games does he actually show up in as a playable character? Yes he has his own series but in the mainline Super Mario games he's not always in all of the games where you can ride him to attack enemies.
Oatchi I can see him being in future games or maybe take a lesser role similar to Yoshi. But I'm hoping we see more of this little guy in the future .
I tend to consider both Oracle games as one big adventure but if I had to pick which one is better I'd agree Oracle of Ages is the better of the two. Looking forward to replaying both at some point.
Unlike most Zelda fans these were the first games in the series I ever played so I have a lot of nostalgia for the Oracle games and to me they're still one of my favourite games to play.
I haven't had much experience with Pikmin before besides Pikmin 2 and I'm loving 4 so far. It's just a fun game to play and something I needed after putting in so many hours into ToTK since it's a more chill game I find. Plus the doggo is cute. 9 out of 10 so far for me
Honestly first impressions of the dub it sounds good to me. A little nitpick is that Liko sounds a bit too old to be someone who's around 10-12 years old, she sounds more like someone who's in their late teens. But other than that it looks good.
Don't really care for Sonic but I've always liked Sega's catalogue of JRPGs. I would love to see Sega remake the Phantasy Star games since in my opinion those are long overdue or make one that's focused on a traditional single player experience. Same with Skies of Arcadia, some sort of HD remaster would be nice.
Then there's the Sakura Wars games which most of them still haven't got official Western releases and Valkyria Chronicles 3. There's lots of things they can remake or localize still.
Honestly it's hard for me to say but I'm giving the edge to the NES one for me personally. When I think of the original Mario Bros Trilogy I always think of the original 8 bit versions.
But I love the SNES versions as well. So really it's personal preference that I pick the NES versions even they technically are inferior but much more iconic.
Pretty cool to see the game finally release as it was intended. I still have my GBA so I think I might take the dive since you don't see these type of retro releases too often.
Never cared for COD after Modern Warfare 2 but guess that's a win for MS. With saying that I'm honestly not a fan of what Microsoft is doing and it's a bit worrisome.
They aren't able to create their own IPs to help sell their consoles. So to cover up for the lack of creativity they're buying other gaming companies like Bethesda and Activision to fill out their shallow pool of first party titles. Doesn't look like their done since we all know they have had interest in buying Sega in the past.
This really was an epic moment that I'm glad I didn't spoil for myself. It's epic and sad at the same time once you understand the context and how much pain and loneliness Zelda had to go through in order to even get Link the chance to have the Master Sword again.
I guess the only thing ruining the cutscene is the fact that the Sword needs to recharge all the time, you would think after thousands of years it would be unbreakable at this point lol
Wow I never knew GTA 5 sold that much but guess it makes sense since it's be released on almost every system imaginable.
Was never a hardcore fan of FF but always enjoyed the one's that I did play. 6 being the best one then followed by 7. I still need to playthrough the rest at some point.
It would be nice to see Capcom make a new Mega Man game whether it be classic, X or Battle Network whichever. The only other collections left to be made are Legends and Star Force.
The Collections are great and all but I'm interested in seeing what plan Capcom has for this franchise moving forward. I don't wanna be pessimistic but it doesn't seem like they're that interested in making a new entry anytime soon.
To look at things through a bigger picture since 2010 without including Legacy releases there's only been 3 new games made in that time span: Rockman XOver, Mega Man 11 and X Dive. 2 of which are mobile games.
The positive side is the Legacy Collections and that does prove Capcom hasn't entirely forgotten about their old mascot. Hopefully we'll get some new games moving forward.
This is a very deep year for a console this old. We got new releases of Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem, Metroid and Pikmin all in one year. It's impressive how many quality games continue to come out for it this late into it's lifespan.
Such a fun game, I remember they did a great job of marketing the game. It even had those great anime shorts with Palutena on the 3DS eshop and it Nintendo put a lot of focus on it.
Would love to see it with dual stick controls on the Switch but doesn't seem like anyone in Nintendo is interested in porting it based off Sakurai's comments.
Tears of the Kingdom. For me it's the safe pick but how can I not pick it? It's such a good game and in my opinion one of the best games in the Zelda franchise. Definitely the highlight for me this year.
Fire Emblem Engage would be number two, the story was cheesy in a good way and I loved the new abilities they included. Also as a longtime fan I loved the call backs to the older games, it was pure fanservice which was great.
Prime remastered is also great, they improved on a classic title and made it even better.
Lots of great titles so far this year on Switch and the 2nd half of the year we still got Pikmin 4, Mario RPG Remake and Mario Bros Wonder. It's a very strong year for the Switch.
Ya it's one of the main reasons why I haven't played any of the games either. I've always been interested in these but after reading online that various games are connected to each other and it requires hundreds of hours that's put me off from taking the dive.
I think the lower physical sales is probably due to the fact it's a PS5 exclusive for now while 15 was released on both Xbox and PS4 at the time and obviously the poor reception of 15 didn't help. The M rating I don't think has much of a effect on sales but seeing how FF generally has a wider appeal to people of all ages maybe that also effects it.
A bit off topic but among my gamer friend group no one is talking about it, for me at least there doesn't seem to be much hype for 16 in my social circle and everyone are gamers.
As for myself I'll probably buy it in the future when I get a PS5. Still haven't taken the plunge since I hate how the console looks and oversized the hardware is. Still waiting for a console revision from Sony and my PS4 backlog is never ending.

Re: UK Charts: Super Mario RPG Can't Jump To The Top Five In Its Debut Week On Switch
I'm guessing Mario RPG will sell better in other regions. But the Mario RPG type games usually sell much less than the main series of platformers.
Ironically it's also competing against Mario Wonder which most people would pick that game vs Mario RPG even if it's a beloved classic.
With saying that I'm playing RPG for the very first time and I can see why people love it, it's such a fun game.

The game looks great, I haven't had much experience with the series only played 2 so I'm looking forward to getting a chance to dive into it.
Re: UK Charts: Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy XVI Knocks Zelda: TOTK Down A Peg
Re: Review: Fire Emblem - The Blazing Blade Is Still As Sharp As Ever
I recently replayed this on Wii U and it holds up very well. It's a true Fire Emblem classic and just as good as I remember it.
