The rumors said $30, which you could make a fair argument that Pokemon could even get away with. $20 is a more reasonable price, but I can see where people say that's too high. Better than a sub-app in NSO where you pay additional money though
AI is here to stay, it's not going anywhere. As long as it is with permission and used in an ethical manner, it's fine. Unfortunately, that's not always the case
That's a pretty rough debut for Mario Tennis. Also it's probably not shown on the charts but Kirby Air Riders probably crossed the 1/2 million mark in Japan.
Really good casting, pretty much every casting choice in this franchise has landed extremely well. I also definitely need to watch the 3rd movie and catchup!
As much as I've criticized this franchise, I grew up with Pokemon and have a bunch of fond memories. There was something magical about 90s/early 2000s Pokemania. The closest the franchise got to replicating that was the release year of Pokemon Go in 2016. Maybe I've just gotten too old, but Pokemon feels so by the books and corporate nowadays.
Togekiss is my pick. Always felt like the ultimate Pokemon good luck charm and the fully realized idea of the Togepi line from Gen 2. Piplup has also really grown on me, it's arguably the cutest starter in my opinion. I've also grown fond of Lucario despite me initially viewing it as a Mewtwo replacement (thanks Smash Brawl).
I really don't have much interest in the Switch 2 at the moment, but I don't wanna pay $50-100 more to be left out of next-gen. I'm not in a place where I am ready to adopt to next-gen but this price hike could really force my hand.
I will literally wait until the last minute to buy a Switch 2 before the price hike. I do hope Nintendo gives a warning beforehand or there are surefire signs on the internet before it happens.
Gen 2 is a tough one being my personal favorite generation and when I really started to get invested into the series. My first Pokemon game that I owned was FireRed but I was watching the anime/movies during the Gen 2 era prior to playing the games. Lugia is my first pick and I have quite a bit of nostalgia from the 2nd movie. Such a beautiful and majestic legendary and the cool trio leader of the Kanto birds. Celebi is a very close second, it's the first mythical Pokemon I ever received as part of the HGSS distribution. It became a part of my team in my play-through and I'd take it on walks with my Pokewalker (anybody remember that lovely device?). IMO, the cutest Pokemon. Then there's Scizor who's a close third. It's the Pokemon that briefly got me into competitive in late Gen 4 and my pseudo main for the brief time I played Pokken.
Hollow Knight gets a slight edge for me simply because I haven't finished the true ending of Silksong. Once you understand the story of Hollow Knight, you gain an even greater appreciation. Excited to hit that point in Silksong, although Silksong has such better movement fluidity.
@nhSnork It boggles my mind that this wasn't a Switch 2 release day & date with other platforms, considering that's where it would sell the best. I guess BN didn't have the game ready to launch on that platform yet? It still seems 3rd parties are playing development catchup with the Switch 2 as indicated by Thursday's Direct
I'm not going to stop repeating it, this was the worst direct EVER in my opinion. Nintendo failed to give us exciting news today because all these announcements and games were pretty much previously confirmed prior to today's presentation. Only 1 or 2 minor exceptions for new announcements that weren't really memorable. I don't want to knock the games, because there's some good stuff there, but the presentation royally sucked.
I'm glad to hear it, 1 million is a respectable achievement. But for a game of this scale and expense in the AAA sphere, that's still a flop and figures should be closer to 2-3 million. The game did not live up to expectations, both from Nintendo's side and the consumer/critic side. However, the game was setup to fail with almost no marketing and a very troubled development cycle. MP5 and/or the next 3D Metroid experience will probably be years or even decades away after this release.
I have a feeling this is going to be a very big celebration year. A lot of things were held back for the 25th anniversary in 2021 for obvious reasons, projects and ideas that were dormant will surface for this 30th anniversary.
I'm not gonna hide my disappointment, but that's ok. Right now, the direction Nintendo wants to go in with their new console and news cycle is not for me, and that's their choice. I'll just wait longer to buy the console.
Pokemon Gen 10 is heavily rumored for this year alongside the 30th anniversary (and a 4-year cycle from Gen 9). But even then, it still feels like Nintendo is missing some pieces for the latter half of this year. My bet on the big "Mario" game for 2026 is going to be Luigi's Mansion 4 and a big DLC push for MK World. 2027 will bring some new heavy hitters like Smash, Zelda, or 3D Mario.
Crossing 155million officially, I think it's debatably fair to crown the Nintendo Switch as the best-selling system of all time with mostly accurate reporting. I highly doubt Sony's figures for the PS2 are truly 100% accurate, they were hovering at 155 million for the longest time (suspiciously above the 154 million of the DS) and found the "5 million additional sales" behind the couch just a few years ago. Sales figures of consoles from the early 2000s weren't as accurately reported as thy are today, and there were a lot of video DVD-only based PS2s counted in that figure. The 160 may be true, or it might have just been a goal-post push to keep Nintendo from stealing that crown.
This is why we need a 1st party direct, even if the next AAA project is far out. Investors need a big game to claw-at, and right now it's pretty slim pickings beyond Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem FW beyond Q1 2026, and both of which are still on the smaller fandom side compared to AC, Mario, and Zelda.
A partner direct is not the right move now. Is it just me or is Nintendo allergic to giving proper 1st party news this Switch 2 generation? There's serious lack of information on 1st party AAA titles for 2026 beyond Q1, for now we only have Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, and both of those barely have any info or release dates.
In all fairness for the doubters, we didn't get a Full Fat Direct until late March last year. Nintendo can also play weird and fast when it comes to their gaming news, so nothing is ever guaranteed. While a February Direct within the first two weeks of the month seems extremely likely and is concurrent with patterns from the past, Nintendo never plays these things by the book. For all we know it's going to be a Partner or Indie Direct and we won't get proper 1st party gaming news until Summertime (which would suck but could totally happen).
It's pretty common for movies to come out loosely before the OG announced date based on theater contracts and other factors. Those things don't finalize until just a few months before release anyways.
It's criminal that the Switch 2 Pro Controller does not have analog triggers. PS5's controller set a perfect standard on how it can be done with modern controllers.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Tennis Fever?
Most Mario sports games can never really score higher than a 7/10 for me. The game has to be exceptionally wacky to score higher (Strikers GC & Wii).
