Hot take - every single game we see in this presentation is going to be completely new. It's only 15 minutes, there's not much time to recap older already-announced games. The only "repeat" draw will be Hades II as the closer announcement with a release date.
Please please please fill out this survey! This is our chance as gamers to give our voice on how terrible these digital practices have become and to preserve physical media.
Best case scenario - Nintendo had to put out a presentation before August 1st to appease investors & 3rd party partners and they were contractually obligated to. More big news is coming very soon in early/mid August. Worst case scenario - Nintendo is truly fumbling the bag and pulling another Wii U tier marketing fiasco. Yes the Switch 2 is selling well, but maybe it was just hot out the gate, what if the sales significantly drop off in a bit?
What is Nintendo doing? They are seriously dropping the ball with marketing and release dates for the latter half of 2025, and they are failing to support these games. Metroid Prime 4 is probably taking the worst of it, this game could easily be a 5+ million seller if promoted right
The games shown - actually really good. But Nintendo's not reading the room right, and there's a significant lack of news for big AAA games which people need to know about soon (both 1st party and 3rd party). This was a good direct shown at the complete wrong point in time.
There were good games announced in this Direct. Just not the games or news people needed to see. Whoever's managing the Nintendo marketing cycle right now needs to be fired into the sun
I think just about everyone is banking on Wednesday July 30th for a Direct. It makes 0 sense for Nintendo to skip beyond that date. Already pretty nonsensical that the wait has been this long.
It's really weird to call 125K disappointing. It's more average than under/overwhelming. Most new games break-in at that number for the Japan charts, so it's pretty good. And considering there's still a growing Switch 2 base, Bananza will have legs on charts. DK is also more popular in the West due to its ties to Rare and western development. However, the launch doesn't really bode well when this is considered a tentpole title. Tentpoles can easily sell over 1/2 a million upon debut. Games like Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Mario smash this in the Japanese market (Kirby & Pikmin too!).
That's a very interesting statistic, but how does it compare to attachment rates of buying a second controller from previous consoles? In theory, that attachment rate makes a lot of sense, most people need a second controller for friends/family (if you count the joy cons set as a "first" controller).
If it's gonna happen, it's likely to occur on Wednesday July 30th as Nintendo really likes to hold Directs on Wednesdays. Also, if it's not announced by Tuesday July 29th at 10am (US EST), it's probably not happening in July (at the very minimum Nintendo will give 24hr notice before a Direct announcement).
Hate to say it but being so late in the Summer, this might just be the last mainline Nintendo Direct of 2025, Nintendo's probably going to skip or downsize their September Direct.
This is a good move for general consumers with children and a great alternative to the Pokemon-only crowd from the MK bundle. But sadly the game is Digital-only. I'd much rather get the Switch 1 game version physically which comes with nicer box art too.
I assume Nintendo will pull a very similar move for the upcoming Animal Crossing release. Might even release with the rumored "mini" Switch 2 console.
Yes, another corporate and soulless mobile game, woo. It's been over 4 years since the last good Pokemon spinoff game in Pokemon Snap 2 and it barely seems like a priority for the company to even develop any more spinoffs.
@NintendoWife It really does. There's always been an ageism stigma around gaming. With more people playing games from all ages, those stigmas and discriminatory attitudes towards gamers have reduced dramatically. However at the same time, gaming is certainly perceived differently among people, and you have your "casual" vs "hardcore" audiences. And of course you still have that select group of non-gamer people who think every other video-game character is either Pikachu or Mario.
The game is gonna have legs though alongside the Switch 2. A lot of people are going to pick this up alongside Mario Kart, at least during this first year of Switch 2.
From what I heard, the last playtest was something similar to Xenoblade Chronicles X's FrontierNav with a weird grid. But still couldn't get clear details on in. I don't know if it's a game but rather a proof of concept for an eventual game.
This game's gonna have a long life in the public space. Being that it was released early in the Switch 2 generation, it's gonna be a presence for a long time. It has great speedrunning potential, a very fun story, and a bunch of non-story collectables and challenges.
Look, it's nice when a game runs well and looks good. I'm not denying that is important. But some gamers & reviewers are really starting to come off as snooty and elitist when they criticize or lambast modern games for things like frame drops or performance issues. Some of the even extreme calling games unplayable in these states (how did they even survive the 90s and early 2000s?). These usually come at the expense of judging and playing games for the fun or novelty factor, which I feel should be the first merit to why we play games. I know Digital Foundary's core is all about the performance of games, but I just cannot support their mission or what they bring to the gaming industry as it brings about too many flaws about in the modern gaming landscape. I really don't see why we glorify this as gaming news.
9/10 is a very solid score of an excellent game. But it also means that it lacks the special sauce that 10/10 games get. I do wonder if Bananza is therefore lacking that gameplay variety or if that loop gets a little stale in the latter half of the experience.
I have a feeling the main focus of this presentation will be Pokemon Champions. While this could be really good for competitive, I personally couldn't care less. We'll also get a side peek of Legends Arceus too. It seems the Pokemon Company's focus on Nintendo game experiences has dramatically shifted, it's no longer the main priority.

Re: Nintendo Won't Let Charity Speedrunning Event Use Its Games Without Permission, Because Of Course
Of course Nintendo would do this now. They are on their high horse. If this was the Wii U era, this wouldn't be an issue

My wallet feels good after deciding not to buy a Switch 2 at launch. This confirms that feeling

This is a joke. The Switch 1 console is ancient tech, it should be going down in price, not up

9/10 is a very solid score of an excellent game. But it also means that it lacks the special sauce that 10/10 games get. I do wonder if Bananza is therefore lacking that gameplay variety or if that loop gets a little stale in the latter half of the experience.
