Monday morning doesn't have to be a time of gloom, European gamers, as Nintendo brings us details of this week's Download Update to enjoy. This week's pretty hot, it must be said, with major retail releases on Wii U and 3DS, some promising download-only games and more discounts than you could shake a Deku stick at. Let's get to it.
Wii U Retail Download
Hyrule Warriors (Nintendo, €49.99 / £39.99) — The first of this period's wave of big-hitting Wii U retail titles arrives, with a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Tecmo Koei and Nintendo to bring us a combination of Dynasty Warriors and The Legend of Zelda. With an impressive cast and adventure that travels across Hyrule, local co-op play and a retro-infused Adventure mode, this could potentially give Zelda fans the nostalgia and hack 'n slash combo they never knew they needed. Our assessment of this in our review will be with you soon. Available from 19th September.
Wii U eShop
KickBeat: Special Edition (Zen Studios, €9.99 / £8.99) — This is an action rhythm game in which you pull off impressive Kung-Fu moves while keeping to the beat; it features bands such as Pendulum, P.O.D, Celldweller and Blue Stahli. We'll get our Kung Fu Funk on for our review. Available from 16th September.
Darts Up (EnjoyUp Games, €2.49 / £2.29 ) — The 3DS eShop title makes its way to the Wii U's oche with some notable enhancements, including a combo feature and a new arcade mode with online leaderboards. We'll see whether this hits a bullseye or a double 1 in our review.
Chimpuzzle Pro (CW Games, €1.99 / £1.79) — This tasks you with guiding an always-walking chimp to its bananas by placing blocks and obstacles in the right spot. It seems simple enough, and we'll swing into our review right away.
Mon Premier Karaoké (Ring Zero, €9.99 / £8.99) — A karaoke game with "some of the most popular children’s songs of all time". There's not much more to say at this time, so we'll find some young singers and, we guess, ask them whether the songs are some of their favourites or all time; then write a review for you to read. That's the Circle of Life, which we doubt is in there.
Wii U Virtual Console
Life Force (Konami, €4.99 / £3.49) — An iconic shooter from Konami, this title alternates from horizontal to vertical stages and hits plenty of its marks — attractive 8-bit visuals, memorable tunes, tight gameplay and the option for two-player co-op. It's aged but still has its charms, earning a 7/10 in our Life Force review.

3DS Retail Download
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (Square Enix, €39.99 / £29.99) — A definitive expansion on the original release from 2012, this title takes the library of songs to over 200 but, most importantly, shakes up the modes for a fresh take on the rhythm music mechanics. Quests add some grandeur to the occasion while VS mode throws in some variations and even worldwide online play; we gave this a glowing recommendation in our Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call review. Available from 19th September.
3DS eShop
Glory of Generals (CIRCLE Entertainment, €9.99 / £7.99) — If you like strategy games and anything related to World War II, this tries to reel you in with its sheer volume of content; it offers 64 campaigns covering both sides of the conflict. Unfortunately it's a disappointment, and we explain why in our Glory of Generals review.
The Keep (Cinemax, €9.99 / £8.99) — An ambitious first-person dungeon-crawling RPG, you take on puzzles and battles as you seek to unravel the mystery around a rather daunting tower; this'll also include multiple difficulty settings with permadeath options. We'll explore the depths of this game for our review.
3DS Virtual Console
Donkey Kong: Original Edition (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49) — This "definitive home version" of the original arcade classic arrives on the 3DS; this iteration includes content and small touches that were missing from the original NES port. This is sure to have retro DK fans rather happy, and we'll bring you our review soon.

So the Smash Demo wasn't listed? Have demos been listed before?
As someone who didn't get a code I hope the demo comes out.
Hyrule Warriors retail copy for me. Those discounts are pretty neat, though I already own most of those games.
Hyrule Warriors and Theathrhytm preordered so nothing to download.. or that I own already everything that's interesting on this list.
Gonna get hyrule warriors but physical. It's £32 most places so is cheaper than eshop which is a bit silly I think
Some very interesting temporary discounts, but I gotta save for upcoming games.
Nothing for me this week unless I change mind and go digital with Hyrule Warriors.
Hyrule preordered! Can't Wait!
I'm getting the scarf edition of Hyrule Warriors so nothing for download this week.
Getting Hyrule Warriors digital from GAME. Can't wait! 8D
hyrule warriors preordered, but digital at game uk. Still cheaper than nintendo lol, I wish the download codes were available through all retailers like amazon etc.
Hmm I still get sad when I think about the state of the virtual console So much money that I want to spend but can't! Such a strange thing for a company to deny it's customers what they want! Anyway, pretty excited to give a Hyrule Warriors a go
Finally, Europe not only gets a 60Hz version of DK Original Edition (50Hz one being the Red Wii bundle) but can actually buy it too. Kind of lame for the 17 people who bought DK though having to rebuy it to get a better version...
Could Zelda Four Swords Anniversary be on the horizon?
@PLATINUM7 The PR put of last week said it would come on Friday. Not sure why it is missed here as other Friday releases are listed.
Hyrule physical for me, lots of discounts which is nice even though i already own alot of them.
ive been waiting for ducktales to be reduced since it was released so that's a must, hyrule warriors will have to wait a week or two as my funds are low!
Oooh Dual Destinies is £11.99? Gotta scrape the money for that at that price! Been waiting for a deal for a while so this'll be the final push for me So okay i still need to play the other games but for that price i can keep it for later on. Landed!
Girlfriend preordered Hyrule Warriors and is coming down this weekend to play it with me : )
Otherwise I would probably be getting Phoenix Wright.
Definately getting the Smash Bros demo when that hits on Friday.
Getting Life Force. Game wasn't available for PAL owners so glad I can finally purchase it.
I'm surprised that so many people go physical with Hyrule Warriors. AA:DD is pretty tempting at this price point
Hmm I don't think I'll be getting anything though Donkey Kong: Original Edition has my attention.
Nothing for me this week. Getting Hyrule Warriors physical copy.
@MeWario I'm curious, what do u mean by the "state of the eshops" ?
Are you talking about having to make purchases on the device you intend to download to? If so this is also biggest gripe, although you can see on the Nintendo website they have set it up to be allow payments from anywhere soon.
@llamareborn : Physical discs is always cheaper at Retail including PS3 and 360 games.
Download is always overpriced. I know, it doesen't make sense.
I'll be downloading Life Force and Hyrule Warriors, but payday is the 25th so they'll both have to wait!
@Emblem It could be to do with the fact you can't purchase anything if you don't have enough memory space to download it. I missed the Kid Icarus Uprising and Sonic Lost World sales due to my 32GB SD card not arriving in time so I lost £9 (Kid Icarus Uprising is well worth £29.99 so I'm not particularly sour about it) and got Sonic Lost World physical copy.
After the crap Nintendo is pulling with Hyrule Warriors' DLC, I'm contemplating not buying it.
@Grumblevolcano Really?! I never knew that as i've never run into the issue before but thats pretty stupid on their part. I hope they sort that out soon.
@Starwolf_UK
I'd like Four Swords Anniversary, but what we need is a FSA remake, fir 3DS and Wii U. It is such an under-appreciated game. One that isn't stupidly limited time
Nothing for me this week since I'm getting a physical copy of Hyrule Warriors.
@Grumblevolcano
Or you could have backed up the files to a PC, started downloading through sleep mode, cancelled it, put your old files back on SD.
YES! I will get DK original edition, I allready own the existing VC version on my 3DS, but beeing able to play that extra level is so worth it!
And I will go physical for Hyrule Warriora. gotta save the blocks for digitalonly releases
Wowzers tons of discounts! I'll get Hyrule Warriors when I can.
I got excited seeing Dual Destinies getting a discount, but sad to see the sale price is actually more than the regular price on IOS.
Getting retail Hyrule Warriors by the keep is firmly on my radar.
I will have to pick up that DK game if it ever comes to the US! Love old Nintendo arcade games. I wonder why we aren't getting HW until the 26th..
I'm a die hard Zelda fan but Hyrule Warriors somehow doesn't get me excited. Still playing last weeks Teslagrad, so I'm good for now. Hoping for more VC titles.
Have hyrule warriors winging it's way to me from Amazon next week so that's that sorted.
But, Ressy revelations on sale, on the 3ds again, totes buying it at 13.50 as download. Played it to death on release, sold it, bought it for the ps3 didn't think much of it, sold it, bought it for the WiiU, it's ok on there but didn't sell it on as its getting hard to find for the WiiU. And one again I'm back to the original and best version, the 3ds. I urge everyone who can to buy it at this price, such a class Ressy. Such a shame RE:R2 isn't coming to Nintendo consoles. Didn't it sell the best on the 3ds?
Wow, NamDai! A whole whopping 4€ discount on One Piece! Bargain, I say! BARGAIN!
@Emblem sorry, I feel like an idiot. While I do have some problems with the eshops, I meant virtual console
Wow, that's a lot of good discounts.
I wonder where are the european VC Megaman releases like Megaman 7 and the missing Megaman X games?
Shovel Knight...
The Keep for me. The 3DS needs some more RPGs sent its way.
I hope that DK game comes to Wii U eshop.
I would love to get Project X Zone but the price is still abit high for me.
Hyrule Warriors as I have some money & rewards saved up. Need revws for kickbeat & darts up. Hope darts up use your Miis like in the 3DS version
Glad I didn't buy RE: Revelations this week as I was thinking about it
Fingers crossed that DK Original will arrive in North America this week, too.
Donkey Kong: Original Edition! That's a nice surprise!
So, a Capcom / MegaMan VC break eh ? Hope that doesnt mean that they came to a full stop again...
@ZenTurtle That wouldn't have worked seeing as I was using the standard 2GB SD card which comes with the original 3DS and Kid Icarus Uprising is larger than 2GB in memory space.
@Grumblevolcano
Actually, you're right, it brings up an error message.
That One Piece discount.
No X3 and MM7 means nothing for me this week. I'll wait for Hyrule Warriors discount on the eShop and the details of those DLCs before I'll dive in. I hope they bring DK original on the Wii U too. Also waiting for Shovel Knight.
Please don't suck, Hyrule Warriors.
Has anyone got the actual installed size of DuckTales ? (For EU).
Is it really 1.2GB ?
Nothing this week (or next week when NA gets Hyrule Warriors). Not because there's no good options, but with a flux of strong eShop titles recently, I chose to get five diverse experiences rather than one, considerably more expensive one.
Besides, now that I think about it, I'm unlikely to get Hyrule Warriors. Playing Dynasty Warriors 3 this weekend confirmed that. Not a good enough base to stand on. Hope it sells well, but it's not for me.
I pick The Keep. Love old Dungeon crawlers like this. First reviews talking about control issues during fights, but I will bite my way through it.
Hyrule and Curtain Call physical limited editions, and Phoenix Wright and The Keep as downloads (I own the other that are of interest to me already physically).
eshop music has changed to the Zelda Theme Tune.
Already bought on ebay as a pre-order And of course I am talking about Hyrule Warriors!
Nice to finally get Life Force in Europe.
Will probably also get Parking Star 3D and Quell Reflect.
Also looking forward to the review of The Keep since i really like dungeon-crawlers.
@RainbowGazelle - "After the crap Nintendo is pulling with Hyrule Warriors' DLC"
OK, I'll bite, what's the problem? All I can find on Google is free DLC and the promise of more in the future. ALl fine w/ me.
I'll tell ya what bites though, Capcom giving us a sale on RE:R the same week they announce every system BUT Wii U is getting the sequel. PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Screw them.
So everybody, that means you @RedDevilAde, DON'T BUY RE:R!!
On a brighter note, glad to see all the HW love (playable demo at Target and Gamestop in the US). We'll be getting it on disc as well.
@unrandomsam Thanks for the notice, I went on the eshop and found out there's a 4 hour eshop maintenance starting at 8pm UK time.
Well, Europe should be happy that Hyrule Warriors is the same price as it is in NA.
Isn't DK Original Edition that special version of DK NA offered under promotion a year or two ago?
@Knuckles I think so It was also offered in Japan
I always get the physical copy of a game, but apparently [physical] Hyrule Warriors is €10 cheaper than its eShop counterpart, all the more reason to get the physical game.
Probably wait until Hyrule Warriors is a bit cheaper (probably go on sale near Christmas) In the meantime DuckTales is finally a reasonable price and I will be able to play the Mercenaries 3D properly for once (First time I picked it up from cex and didn't realise about the perma save file).
@MeWario I feel fine with the current VC offering - there are some games which I wish would come out but if Nintendo released them all at once then I wouldn't have anything to get during the dry spells. I prefer the slow and steady method of release they are using. Just out of interest what VC games do you especially want to see?
hm maybe i will get resident evil revelations. i liked the demo. i dont really want to download a retail game though and i wont have much time to play it. especially when fantasy life comes out on the 26th here in europe
@MeWario Oh thats a total different story, i imagine lots of us share the same issues with the VC .
@Knuckles
Yes, the one that I met the requirements for multiple times but never got the email with the code,
@Einherjar We only had a series of MM releases on 3DS now and there is hardly anything left to be released on that platform. Just the NES board game and the Game Gear one. I wouldn't expect any MM games on 3DS anytime soon.
@KeeperBvK I never said anything about the 3DS here.
And we europeans are at least missing out on MMX3 and MM7.
Not to mention that theres a plethora of Battle Network titles to release.
And then, there are capcoms other "promised" VC releases, like Demons Crest and such.
When it comes to capcom, im rather nervous, even ebout a one week break.
@Einherjar The concerns about Capcom make a lot of sense especially with what happened for the 2 upcoming Resident Evil games.
@Grumblevolcano Ever since the MegaMan catastrophy, i only trust them as far as i can throw a house...and trust me, thats not THAT far...
I just got Theatrhythm Curtain Call in the mail three days earlier than release!!
I pre-ordered it directly from the square enix online store, so that might have been why.
Super fun game though! I highly recomend it!!
Really want to original donkey kong. Would want it on my wii u though. Hope this signals the start of donkey's kong games coming back to current consoles along with the DKC trilogy and then Donkey Kong 64
WHINY ALEX TIME!
As glad as I can be about being among the lucky souls who snagged the Smash Bros special demo, I have to point out the complete SSB is just about two weeks away, and there's still no sign of Kirby Fighters Deluxe.
About Theatrhythm, that's in my do-do list, but right now I'm saving my euros for Smash. Gonna get it later, maybe after the Hoenn remakes. And I can satiate my thirst for FF music with the first TFF game. I also have to point out that my next Indies Zero game won't be Curtain Call, either: I've set my sights on Ultimate NES Remix, if only for being the 3DS game in which Mario and the Ice Climbers will be featured together (sorry, fellow Smashers, but Sakurai pulled a Mewtwo on the Ice Climbers, as well as Wolf and Lucas).
I want Fantasy Life first, then I'll get Theatrhythm next month, loved the first one.
@AlexSora89 Sorry to disappoint but Ice Climber may not be in Ultimate NES Remix. The Nintendo site states there's 16 games in Ultimate NES Remix and there's 23 (which have a section to itself) in NES Remix 1+2 so 7 games will be cut.
No Mega Man?
Still no Korg DSN-12... Only 1 more Thursday left for that nebulous September release date
I have no idea what Hyrule Warriors is like. A demo would really help. I'm concerned it will be repetertive and boring after the initial fun wears off. I guess a review will help somewhat.
So pumped for Theatrhythm! Had it pre-ordered a while ago. The physical edition from Amazon UK is cheaper than the digital.
@rjejr The problem is that they've split up the dlc so that you can't get all the content, unless you pre-order at 3 different stores. I'm not buying 3 copies of the game just to get all of the costumes.
@RainbowGazelle All 3 content packs could be available from the eshop at launch though (see Sonic Lost World for example).
@Grumblevolcano Well I've gone and pre-ordered from Amazon, so hopefully I'll at least get the Skyward Sword DLC. If the dlc is on the eShop, then it won't be so bad.
@RainbowGazelle - Ah, the separate outfits at different retailers problem. Yeah, not a big fan of that either. But then I'm not a fan of pre-ordering digitally, day 1 DLC that you have to pay for, or anything else that makes the games cost more than what they say the price is. "Season Pass" too. I didn't really think about the costumes though as to me that's more a pre-order bonus issue than a DLC issue and I guess I'm kid of used to it at this point. Bought LBP2 Collectors ed several years ago and got a ton of "exclusive" outfits that I'm pretty sure have all been available on PSN by now.
I'm not sure where I'm getting HW from as I haven't seen too many offers. Amazon used to charge $1 for release date delivery but now its $8. Target didn't have any of those $5 pre-order GC that I usually get. Kmart isn't big on cupons like they used to be. I'm all out of trade-in credit at Gamestop. Might have to buy it full price day 1. Haven't done that in years. MK8 doesn't count as we got WW HD for free and that's a $50 game. And a free $10 steering wheel. And a $5 GC at Target. If I pay attention to costumes I'll go crazy, so I'll be happy w/ my free Gandorf ones from Club Nintendo.
@rjejr I have a feeling capcom will release a version of revelations2 for the new 3ds maybe next summer with the extra processing power on the 'new' system. I'm cool with that if they did.
But I have to disagree with your previous post about not getting revelations in this sale. It's the best version and at that price, brilliant. and it sold the best on the 3ds and WiiU. I think there is more to them not releasing RE:R2 to Ninty consoles.
Or maybe they are making a spin off from this spin off for the new 3ds and its just not announced?
@readyletsgo - Having a sale on a good game is good, but it's the timing that bothers me. It's like they want everyone to buy the first game before we realize we aren't getting the 2nd which they just announced last week.
Yeah, maybe Wii U or 3DS will get a complete version on cartridge or disc after the 4 episodes release, maybe Nintendo doesn't want episodic content on it's systems, but we don't know yet if the game will come to Nintendo systems. If and when they announce that it is coming, then by all means put the first game on sale.
@rjejr ah, I know it's a kick in the face for us. But this is capcom, the port company.
Don't let it get to you though. I, like most people on here have more than the WiiU and 3ds. Sure it would be amazing on those systems (and I have faith they will bring it), but what can you do.
4,99€ for DK Original? That's way to expensive.
@Einherjar I know that you didn't mention the 3DS, which is exactly why I did. The recent weeks of MM downloads in Europe were only on 3DS. There was no continuity in WiiU MM releases at all, so there is hardly a "break" as you called it. It's all just come to its foreseeable end.
@rjejr That's interesting. Amazon UK doesn't charge for release date delivery, it's free.
Hyrule Warriors for me.
@ThomasBW84
I have recieved an email from Amazon yesterday regarding my preorder of Bayonetta 2. Amazon UK originally advertised the normal edition as coming with a physical copy of the remastered Bayonetta 1 game too (which we know now is not the case), but have upgraded my order to be the special edition for the same price. I am now getting the special edition Bayonetta 2 for £31.97
@peach64
what are you talking about? the appstore version has the story mode broken into paid dlc chapters! its not cheaper
@RainbowGazelle - Free free, or Prime free? They used to have it free for awhile, then they charged $1 for release date delivery. Then Nintendo started releasing everything I wanted on a Sunday so it didn't matter to me. Of course they never used to collect tax either but now I have to pay 8+%. So now I usually buy everything local unless I'm shipping a gift to someone else. I'm guessing frequent game purchasers could get a better price w/ Prime.
@rjejr Totally free. I've never used Prime.
@rjejr RainbowGazelle is talking about Amazon UK, who don't charge for release-day delivery for videogames (and possibly other items), regardless of whether you're Prime or not and have had said policy for a while.
What Amazon USA do is, of course, up to them and unfortunately they charge for the service.
@ICHIkatakuri Yeah, I got that email regarding Bayonetta as well, was a nice surprise and I'll happily take it.
I might buy Life Force, but the only game I'm certainly getting this week is Hyrule Warriors, physical, from Amazon.
