"Not that they'll be gracing store shelves, of course, as pre-orders sold out a long time ago, in many cases within hours of going live." Okay? I picked up Wario, Ness and Pac-Man at a store on Monday.

Well, Europe didn't get the Wii Mario Baseball game either..so you can't really tell if it's because of the in-app purchases or because of Baseball.
They could just make a 15 EUR or so fixed-price version of Rusty and replace the in-app purchases in that game with some in-game currency you get in a mini game.

This spinning down of the HDD during idle times actually caused the Pikmin HD movies to stutter for me, because it would always load a chunk of the movie, spin down and then take forever to spin up to load the next chunk.

This sadly is an extremely lazy port by Monster Games. They really took the route of least effort here. The collection mode is very underwhelming, you can't even create a playlist of favourite music.
What bothers me most is the extremely lazy port of the user interface. They just cut the HUD from the Wii version and slapped it on the touch screen on a grey background 1:1. The touch screen looks like its from an alpha build of the game!
Also they just left the menu you bring up with the X button as it is in the Wii version. This whole menu interface belongs on the touch screen!
This excellent Wii game really would have deserved a port with much more effort put into it like Grezzo did with OOT and MM! This is an embarrassment for Monster Games.

@liveswired I agree that Nintendo takes the route of minimal effort when it comes to the VC, other companies like M2 are much better.
But the subject of my comment was the missing online mode which, again, is not a fault of the VC port, because the cartridge version doesn't have a working online mode either.

@Liam_Doolan In your review you're making it sound as if the online mode would still work with the cartridge version, which nowadays it is not. So you can't really fault the VC port when in fact the shut down of the WFC is responsible.
So the only thing that's really missing in the VC port is local multiplayer (which personally I never used anyway).

I'm pretty certain now that we will see a Mario Paint VC release in the vicinity of the Mario Maker release. If they can rework Duck Hunt to work with the Wii Remote, I'm sure they can make Mario Paint work with pointer and/or touch controls.

@Flopsy86 Why are GC controllers out of the question? We now have the adapter after all, so I think we might still see support for that.

Yes you can get the free game even after an update of SM64. Just make sure you purchase the update for SM64 first, and then choose one of the 10 EUR games as your free download. Would be too bad if you would buy all three 10 EUR games and then choose the 2 EUR game as your free dl, lol.
