Re: Fans Uncover Unused Dialogue From Metroid Prime 4

Pillowpants

I've put in over 10 hours now and my biggest complaint is not the contact with the troopers and their chattiness. It's the big nothingburger of a desert that's just really boring. Thank the makers that I bought the Amiibo so I at least can have some music in Sol Valley. I just don't get why they were so keen to add a motor cycle and a really boring open area to the game. But bar that, I still rate the game a 9/10, because the other parts are just really good.

Re: Oh No, Vampire Crawlers' Gameplay Trailer Suggests It's Going To Suck Up All Our Time

Can't wait for this one! I'm still doing some runs of Vampire Survivors every now and then.

@gojiguy, the game has a lot more challenge if you up the ante, such as inverse mode, or limiting the amount of weapons you pick up. So it's definitely not as black/white as you make it seem to be. I most certainly never have the idea that the game plays itself, par a few runs. Yes, it can be extremely easy, but to get there, you need to have some luck and definitely some skill at avoiding enemies until you are too OP to be able to stand still. But, to each their own!

@obijuankanoobie I am keen on collecting games physically, as well. But at the same time, I acknowledge your argument in terms of the uncertainty. Although, you can still redownload any games you purchased. The only thing is that you also need the hardware to play them and older consoles have a larger chance of breaking down. PC doesn't have that problem perse, although there could be other compatibility issues there, because of the OS you're running, or hardware you're utilizing.

One of the things that come with modern times now is that when you do buy physically, there will be tons of updates and maybe even content/DLC that will be missing on the physical carrier. So there's pros and cons to everything. Regardless of all that, if you want certainty, neither of all options offer 100% of that.

Re: Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Probably Won't Come To Switch 2 Anytime Soon

@Anachronism I agree with your last sentiment on not needing a great story. Look at 300 for example. Eye candy is also nice to watch from time to time. I just found it quite unneccesary for Avatar to have sequels. But more power to people who are enjoying it! I personally can't get enough of Star Wars and love the movies, books and games, even though most of it is milked to death.

Avatar just didn't manage to "hook" me quite like other franchises did.

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Prime 4 Falls From The Top Ten

@NintendoWife Yeah, you are right about us getting at least some more Metroid games. And Dread was really a peak game! I meant a new Prime series entry. And in all fairness, we didn't even know a fourth entry was coming until it was announced 8 years ago. Still, even that amount of years of waiting between the teaser and the actual release didn't help at all...

I am thoroughly enjoying the game, even though I am not too fond of the desert area as a connecting hub. There's just a general lack of things to do and the minor areas are very uninteresting, if you ask me. Still, the world design overall and the gameplay when the game is what we are used to are great. I just hope a new entry will arrive within a shorter timespan than what we got now.

Re: Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Probably Won't Come To Switch 2 Anytime Soon

@Smithicus In the age of endless sequels, prequels and reboots, it was pretty obvious it couldn't just stay at one movie. But I entirely agree with you. It just doesn't scale well and it really didn't need to be anything bigger than just the first movie. I have zero interest in the follow-ups, knowing they can't live up to the grandness of the first entry and hearing from others who saw them that they just weren't really worth it.

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Prime 4 Falls From The Top Ten

Pillowpants

Hmm, I know Metroid isn't a system seller, or anything close to that, but I do hope it sells well enough to warrant a new entry sooner, rather than later. The 18 year wait was NOT good at all. Expectancy of the game itself is way too high and will seldom be met with the actual game. I think Metroid Prime 4 definitely suffered from that. The subreddit is a hellhole that's being torn apart in similar fashion as Star Wars Episode 8 did, or the entire sequel trilogy for that matter. It's never good...

I'll be (im)patiently waiting for a new 2D Metroid now!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th December)

Pillowpants

I'm alternating between a couple of games at the moment:

  • Tears of the Kingdom: 61% overall completion
  • Metroid Prime 4: Revisiting Volt Forge for the 3rd time now, after completing the lava level
  • Metroid Dread: Backtracking to get 100% items before facing off against the Bird-man himself
  • Pokémon Legends Z-A: Main missions: 9, Side missions: 26, Wild areas complete: 7, Pokédex: 65 caught

Happy gaming, peeps!

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Metroid Prime 4: Beyond?

Pillowpants

I'm about 6 hours in and love most of it, but the desert is very boring and I really don't see the added value of an open world element to a Metroid game. But when the game is what Metroid Prime is known for, it does it really well. I love scanning every little tidbit. For me its about a 9/10 so far. But I have to say that Metroid Dread is much, much better.

Re: Random: This Modder Turned Their Humble Wii U GamePad Into A Fully Functional Switch

Pillowpants

Very impressive! Well, they are right, the Wii U Gamepad is so comfy to hold! Way better than Switch in handheld mode without any mods. I always find the Switch, and even Switch 2, to feel quite underwhelming in handheld mode with the joycons. They just don't feel as good as the Pro Controller, or Wii U control sticks.

Looks like he's running a homebrew of some sort, too. I'd love to have one of these myself!
