Re: Japan's National Library Says Game-Key Cards Are Not Eligible For Preservation

This really makes me wonder if the Big N will do a reversal on Game Key Cards. I don't think they care much about game preservation, given the fact that so many older games are stuck in "limbo".

I have no idea if sales number are showing a decline in sales when it comes to GKC? I personally am less inclined to buy physical, unless I can get a bigger discount than on the eShop if it's only available as a GKC. The only thing I absolutely loathe about having to buy more games digitally is that I need to invest more in costly SD cards and this almost a typical move to make the consumer pay for your problem, by making it their problem. Or, to maximize profits, by cutting costs AND making the consumers pay for it. Anyway, it's something we see so many corporations do and I am afraid Nintendo is doing just that, which is not good for customer trust in the long run. I see them pushing these boundaries more often recently and I'm not sure what to think about it, yet.

But I don't know how the masses regard GKC. Are there any numbers to go by?

Edit: Forgot to add that all first party games are fully present on the game card, so it probably doesn't count for those. But 3rd party all the more...

@Mincey0 I don't want to buy a ROG Ally. I buy Nintendo consoles only and I don't care to play on PC for prolonged times, because I prefer hanging back in a chair with a controller. I know this can be done with PC too, but I find it a bit too much hassle when the Switch gives me what I need fast.

I buy Nintendo mainly because of first party games, but I am a big fan of Japanese developers like Capcom, Atlus and Square-Enix, to name a few big ones. So having those 3rd party games available and running well on Switch 2 is my preferred scenario.

Although I have BG3 on PC, I would love to be able to play it on Switch 2 in handheld mode, too! Clair Obscur, too. There's so many good games that I'd love to see on Switch 2. Mainly Capcom ones, like all the Resident Evil remasters and Monster Hunter Wilds. One can dream!

@Jack_Goetz I think this is the sad truth we need to live with as Switch 2 players, but my fond hope is that given time developers will understand the Switch 2's hardware better and we can actually see a bit of an improvement, overall.

Saw this on Reddit and it looks okay-ish, but I sincerely hope they will optimize the game a bit more at least. Framerate can be critical for games like these, so get to work From Software! Besides, I don't think it's good for the general reputation of a studio if their games are performing on a subpar level. Although apparently some studios like Game Freak can get away with anything, it would seem...
