This is the advantage of the NSO over a virtual console.

You don't have to wonder if a game is worth the $10 download. Picking and choosing the best of the classics. You just play it without worry or hesitation or possible regret.

The poll is buggy. I scrolled down to put my games in the poll and...it was already the results?
Plus lots of blanks added on the at the end all at "0%".

Anyway, here's what I'm looking at this week:

• Arcade Archives MARCHEN MAZE (Japan arcade exclusive! Came to consoles, I think PC-Engine, but was an overhead view, it couldn't do the isometric view of the original arcade game).
• Snezhinka ("Overwhelmingly Positive" from Steam users)
• Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip (another "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam game)

Already have:

• all the games in DOOM Anthology

I still think there will be an "NSO2" that you can only play on Switch 2, where they will add GameCube, Wii, DS, 3DS and maybe Sega Saturn and Dreamcast games.

Not getting because I already own it:

• Arcade Archives THUNDER FOX is in the Taito Milestones 3 collection
• Citizen Sleeper: Helion Collection already have them individually

It gives us the ability to...acquire new players.

That's pretty horrible corporate-speak.

Something like: "It gives us the ability to provide the EA gaming experience to a new ecosystem of existing Nintendo players", would have been far less gross.

i.e. say what service you're providing, not what new customers you're "owning".

I could wait for a while for a substantial discount...

But no. I NEED to have one immediately! The FOMO is too strong. The fear of having to wait, of shelves being bare, of refreshing for restocking is too much.

And I belief Hollow Knight is in retrograde.

The Shmups Forum has had an annual "Top 25 Shmups of All Time" poll for 20 years.

Over that time, 64 shmups have made the Top 25 at least once.

Under Defeat is one of those games.

1.) Build your real life house/apartment in the game.
2.) Intentionally kill your Sims in your house/apartment.

And I'd get the EGGCONSOLE Zanac MSX, but it's a very rudimentary version of an NES classic.

When Astro Bot came out to rave reviews that one after another proclaimed: "It out-Marios Mario!", I concluded that this was good, because it will force Nintendo to "raise the bar" for the next 3D Mario game.

But, it seems everyone expects a new 3D Mario game to be out for Switch 2 launch day. Assuming that they took a year to "polish" the game, I think it's entirely possible that the new 3D Mario was essentially "in the can" before Astro Bot was released.

Which would mean that Nintendo couldn't learn from or know how to "out-Astro Bot Astro Bot" in the making of the new 3D Mario.

And if it doesn't end up clearing the Astro Bot bar? That would be sad.

That means Steam users rank it as a "below average" game.
(The median game in Steam user ratings is in the "very positive" range)

Japanese one looks like unfinished clipart.

I agree! I have wanted to see that too. Even after scooping up dozens of AA releases, and most of the Neo Geo games I'm interested in, I would still gladly subscribe!

And they're said to be expanding to a "Console Archives" series!

Virtual console would be great!

I think I'll just start with the core NES and SNES Mario and Zelda titles:

Or I could get the NSO for over 4 years (which I need for online play anyway), and play 200 games.

On Virtual Console that would cost me $2,000.

You'd have to subscribe to NSO for 100 years to pay that much.

A psychological horror game where you are stuck in an endless underground passageway. You have to find little things that "don't quite fit" with the rest (they call "anomalies") in order to find the hidden exit.

There is also a follow-up Platform 8 (there you're stuck on an endless subway car) that is reportedly not as good.

Both are "a cup of coffee" cheap and short.

Whenever someone says "was exclusive to Japan", I appear, with credit card in hand.

This is one of 64 games to make the Shmups Forum's Annual Top 25 Shmups of All Time list in their 20 year polling history.

In other words...it's a very good one!

Getting as long as it plays well on Switch:

I would get Quilts & Cats of Calico, but I'd rather have the actual board game (which is just called Calico)

And Super Spy Raccoon is a one-screen early-80s style arcade game, which always interest me. But Steam users say in its current state it's just too damn hard.

A while ago I googled for lists of the best Neo Geo games. I looked for ranked lists at least 25 games long. I ended up finding 7 qualifying lists with 132 unique games and a total of 413 separate entries.

What I would call a "top Neo Geo game", the top 50 or so, of these 10-game collections, Vol. 3 has 5 "top Neo Geo games" and Vol. 4 has 4 "top Neo Geo games". So about half of each collection are "must-haves".

If you are interested in games from the full Neo Geo library (i.e. "all Neo Geo games are good games!"), or you're really into collecting physical editions, then these collections are a good deal.

But if you just want the "top games", then it's probably better to get them individually, especially from those oh-so-rare Hamster sales.

It currently has a "Mixed" rating from users on Steam (that's very bad!).

On MetaCritic the critics rate it in the "60s" on PS5, in the "70s" on PC and in the "80s" on XBox. So, thanks a lot critics...

A common complaint is all the characters "play the same", and does not compare to Shredder's Revenge or Streets of Rage 4, but those are high bars to clear.
