"This weekend, Super Mario Bros. will join Shrek, Toy Story and Minions as the only animated franchises to have two titles open to more than $100M for three days at the domestic (North American) box office."
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is frenetic in such an impersonal way that it feels like the entire film should be put on Ritalin.
I try to avoid those kinds of "sugar rush" animated films. Even when made for "mature" audiences, so many animated shows and movies feel like they're playing on fast-forward and are uncomfortably shrill.
the movie is projected to make $350m worldwide across the five-day Easter weekend. While this is slightly lower than the $377m achieved by The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, the projected domestic gross of $175m is quite a bit higher than the original's $146m.
This is incorrect. The original movie made over $204m domestically over the 5-day (not $146, that was the 3-day), which is more than the $175-180m 5-day that the new one is projected for.
You forgot Marvel MaXimum Collection that comes out on Friday. That's the one I'm getting!
Me too!
A while ago I googled for lists of the top old school beat 'em ups (from back in the day). I looked for sites with long ranked lists. Assigned points based on rank and added it all up.
X-Men ended up tied for first spot (with Final Fight)
Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage and Captain America and the Avengers both ended up in the Top 25.
And I missed JAWS: Retro Edition somehow. Looks like it came out a month ago? Not a classic game, but perhaps the #1 favourite "guilty pleasure" NES game. And they expanded it, giving it a longer gameplay loop.
A game publisher isn't remembered for its "misses". All we remember are the "hits".
No one looking back at 2017 says: "Sure, Nintendo had Breath of the Wild and Odyssey...but releasing Flip Wars just tarnished the whole year for me. So really it all comes out even."
Instead of averaging out the games, they should be tallying up the great ones:
Add up the # of games each publisher had over a MetaCritic "85"
Don't count any reboots, remakes or re-releases.
Then we'd have a better picture of what they provided us.
I remember some of these games from back in the day but the question remains- were any of them actually good?
A while ago I googled for lists of the top old school beat 'em ups. I looked for sites with long ranked lists. Assigned points based on rank and added it all up.
X-Men ended up tied for first spot (with Final Fight) Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage ended up in the Top 22. Captain America and the Avengers ended up in the Top 25.
None of the rest were among the 57 games in the lists.
It's an unwritten rule of the Internet that any mention of Starship Troopers in any form must summon smug comments about people not watching it the right way.
People have also been debating whether the novel is pro-fascist or anti-fascist since 1959.
How do things like Pokemon cards stand in regards to age ratings as they are just as predatory as loot boxes in games.
I read an article today where a company was defending this kind of thing by saying "it's no different than Magic or Pokemon cards".
When I was in high school I blew my first paycheque on "Magic: The Gathering" cards. It just sounded like so much fun.
I eagerly and greedily tore open pack after pack. After looking over my new stack of cards with a friend, my friend said: "Wow...it doesn't look like you got much that are very good."
It then dawned on me that this was a huge waste of my weeks of work to earn those cards. So I gave them all to my friend, marched home in a livid state of mind, and never touched a Magic card again.
Nintendo and Capcom are spoiling us with back to back to back to back releases on Switch 2. I wanted to type it that way because it's true and a little ridiculous. Lol
Surely you must be mistaken...the Internets assure me, that Switch 2 has no games!
Öoo (rated "Overwhelmingly Positive" by over 1,600 users on Steam, the highest possible rating)
The Last Ninja Collection (some of the best action games for computer systems in the late '80s early '90s, also includes the International Karate games, etc. Huge selling, computer game of the year contenders at the time)
People are more enamored by the modern 3D games, but as I like to say:
In 1985, Super Mario Bros. was in my opinion the greatest video game ever made.
In 1986, The Legend of Zelda was in my opinion the greatest video game ever made.
Miyamoto set the template, the standard for all 2D platformers going forward, and then turned around and did the same for the action-adventure genre. Put together, it's quite an incredible feat.
Unfortunate to hear, but at the same time I'm not surprised considering most likely the lack of a Switch 2 version at launch (and related to that now the wait for the physical release before several people interested in the game buy it)
Count me in the "just waiting for the damn physical release" chorus.

Re: Review: South Of Midnight (Switch 2) - A Port That Compromises What This Enjoyable Game Did Best
Reviews sound like it's "okay" docked...but not "great" docked.
Hopefully a patch comes soon to make it the experience on Switch 2 that it should be.

So the new one will make less. But still lots.

Re: Human Fall Flat Brings The Chaos In New Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Really popular on Steam (rated "Overwhelmingly Positive" by over 30,000 users, the highest possible rating).
But the Switch version was criticized for the clunky controls. Now with NS2 mouse controls, I'll be picking it up.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Pokémon Pokopia?
I look for..."anti-cozy" games generally, and hated Animal Crossing.
Hoping this isn't too much like that one. Hope it has more purpose and challenge, not just aimlessly decorating and petting animals.
So I'm going Game Key. If it isn't for me, at all, then I'll recoup most of my cost.
