Re: Rumour: Another Bethesda Game Is Landing On Switch 2, It's Claimed

MontyCircus

The overall sentiment is so negative on this game. It was hyped up as much as anything I can remember, then the reviews were...fine.

The initial player reactions were that it was kind of a total bore. But they promised huge exciting DLC and content coming for the next decade.

Then the first big DLC dropped, and people just got angrier. And then it sounded like they were basically abandoning the game and all those promised future updates.

Really looking forward to playing Indy though!

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The Switch 2's Next Exclusive 'Drag x Drive'?

MontyCircus

Reactions so far are: "It sucks." And: "It quickly tires your arms out."

And if you want to play local couch multiplayer? You'll need to buy another set of S2 Joy-Con! 'Cause everyone needs to use 2. And none of the 3 dozen S1 Joy-Con you already own will work with it.

I expect a MetaCritic score in the "60s" range, and after that point I will quickly forget that it exists.

Re: SNK Announces ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 7 And Vol. 8 For Switch

MontyCircus

A while ago I googled for lists of the best Neo Geo games. I looked for ranked lists at least 25 games long. I ended up finding 7 qualifying lists with 132 unique games and a total of 413 separate entries.

Of its 10 games included, Selection Vol. 7 has what I would call 2 top Neo Geo games (Top 45 or 50 or so):

  • Fatal Fury Special
  • Puzzle Bobble (aka Bust-A-Move)

Of its 10 games included, Selection Vol. 8 also has what I would call 2 top Neo Geo games (Top 45 or 50 or so):

  • NAM-1975
  • Puzzle Bobble 2 (aka Bust-A-Move 2)

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th August (North America)

  • UFO 50 (already have it on Steam, double-dipping, it's a "91" on MetaCritic and rated "Overwhelmingly Positive" from over 6,000 users on Steam, the highest possible rating)
  • Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (getting the cheap upgrade pack to my Switch 1 version).
  • Fate/hollow ataraxia REMASTERED (Sequel to Fate/Stay Night, so might as well continue the series)
  • JALECOlle Famicom Ver. Saiyuuki World II - The Demon God of Heaven - & WHOMP'EM (The previously unreleased in the West Famicom version, also includes the Western version Whomp 'Em, interesting to me because I'm a sucker for unreleased Japanese curios)

I'm a big beat em up fan but Double Dragon is one series I've never really understood the popularity of.

Double Dragon was the first huge beat 'em up.

Back then we didn't have the term "beat 'em up", we just described the Streets of Rage*s and *Final Fight*s as:

"It's like *Double Dragon."

That was the reference point.

Just like Mortal Kombat or the Neo Geo games et.al. were:

"It's like Street Fighter".

  • Irem Collection Volume 3
  • Until Then (rated "Overwhelmingly Positive" by over 8,000 users on Steam, the highest possible rating)

The related article title: "Review Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition (Switch) - An Unforgivably Sloppy Port Of A Genre Classic". Have not played the Switch port of the first game but that doesn't say anything positive about the upcoming second game!

Yeah I see another review of the first game on Switch calling it a "tragically compromised port". Those reviews, and a MetaCritic score in the "50s", successfully scared me off at the time and I got it on GOG instead.

As others said Neverwinter Nights 2 on Switch will be ported by a different company, Aspyr, who have a mixed history, but at least it's not the same company as before.

@Axecon This exactly. With S2's power some decent racing games should be on the horizon, and analog triggers make a lot of difference. Guess I'll stick with 8bitdo.

on the horizon.........the Forza Horizon perhaps?

The Xbox games are coming. Honestly...how the heck is that going to work? You can't play precision driving games without analog triggers.

This was one of my most wished-for Switch 2 features, for the racing games.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer (Switch 2) - Still A Thrill, More Than 30 Years Later

MontyCircus

@KociolekDoSyta

Even the old regular-priced Arcade Archives and Neo Geo games feel a bit much at regular price. In the NL forums, myself and others share alerts when Hamster has sales. Unfortunately they happen only a handful of times a year, and usually only 10 or 20 games at a time, with some games going years without going on sale. So I advise people to snatch any that interest you up when they do.

Arcade Archives games usually go on sale for 30% off, so that would make the $16.99 USD Ridge Racer maybe $11.89 USD.

If you wouldn't buy it at that price either, then the Arcade Archives 2 range isn't for you.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

MontyCircus

I stood in line at GameStop tonight for 4½ hours.
I consider myself lucky though, because I was early enough to be in the part of the line under a roof, as it was pouring rain.

I got the Mario Kart World bundle and the Samsung 256GB microSD Express card.

Can't wait for all the launch day game reviews to pour in so I can gobble them up! The number that I am interested in frightens me.

Oh yeah, I joked in line that I brought 2 credit cards...just in case. As it turned out, my first one was declined (I had looots of room on it, but I assume the charge was too high or something). Luckily, the 2nd card worked or I would have been panicked!

Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Kart World

MontyCircus

@Shmoo @DwaynesGames

Yeah, IGN makes it sound like the "open world" is underwhelming. That there is very little to do out there if you're not racing. Not quite "nothing" to do, but not as much as you might have been fantasizing.

IGN previewers speculated there would be many hidden challenges and secrets and treasures all over for you to find...but that doesn't sound like it's the case in the end.

They said the open world is a "side dish" compared to the "main course" of actual racing, particularly the new hyper-competitive knockout mode. And the racing bit is awesome. It's just not "Forza Mario".
