Re: Soapbox: Sony's Insane PS5 Pro Price Highlights The Delicate Balance Nintendo Must Strike With 'Switch 2'

MontyCircus

The Switch OLED is $350 USD. So Switch 2 is going to be more than that.

I see LCD Steam Deck on sale right now for under $500 USD.

$400 would be around what the original Switch was at launch, adjusted for inflation today. That would be an incredible price.

$450 would be accepted if the specs are impressive.

$500 or more and it's a less "WOW"-level compelling "sweeping the Internet" sort of price.

But if there are similar "Lite" versions launching at the same time, at $400 or lower, that might work.

$400 though, if they can do it. It would really be something. "Half the price of PS5 Pro!" (with disc drive and stand) would be great marketing.

Don't understand why Sega won't release more from their catalogue. Why can't I spend money on the Alex Kidd games, Golden Axe, After Burner, Ninja Gaiden etc.? They could've had like 10 different collections.

Ninja Gaiden was Tecmo. You might have meant Shinobi, luckily those are available.

But yeah, they pulled the plug so fast on their Sega Ages line of games.

I want to play Zaxxon!

Re: Book Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom: Master Works - Monumental, But Still Leaves Questions

MontyCircus

Sounds like a lot of this book is "the making of"? Like a documentary in book form? That is interesting to me.

I skipped the "Hyrule Historia" because it sounded like chronology to a series with no real chronology or story.
I skipped the others because they sounded like art books.

But this and "Creating a Champion" sound interesting, if they focus a lot on "the making of" Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Getting these 2 with former Japan exclusives:

  • Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
  • Sunsoft is Back! Retro Game Selection

Getting this one as a solid sequel to an NES classic (well, so says one glowing review so far):

  • Gimmick! 2

Getting this one because of a couple of glowing reviews, and about 2,400 Steam users giving it their highest possible rating:

  • Shogun Showdown

Nintendo would be foolish to shoot themselves in the foot by announcing Switch 2 right before Switch's final holiday season kicks off. Unless that news arrives alongside a steep price drop for the Switch I just can't see it happening.

"Officially unveiled in October 2016, the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide simultaneously in March 2017."

If it's an early spring release, then an early winter reveal makes sense. As you can see, it happened before. In fact, it happened last time.

Especially if it is backwards compatible.

"Everything you buy for your Switch this Christmas, will be playable on your Switch 2 this Easter!"

That would go down pretty well. And would not hurt sales of games.

Would there be less Switches sold this Christmas? I guess? But would affect only a few naive people living under a rock that don't know that the new one is coming very, very soon.

I'm honestly really intrigued by this, and absolutely salute TGK for 'trying something new'.

In one of his videos, Sakurai said if you release a sequel to a hit game, that is very similar to the one before, you can expect it to sell about half as much as the previous one (without a new, innovative gameplay hook that makes it fresh).

For me, a good example is Sonic Superstars.
I've got Mania, I've got Origins. Why do I need this?
It felt like they just pumped out another 2D Sonic game because it tested high on fan questionnaires.

(I'm not disagreeing with you, these are just "last article of the night" ramblings from me).

Original NES Tetris. I would assume that’s potentially a big deal? Is NES Tetris the preferred version for competitive play?

The NES version recently made international headlines because that kid "beat Tetris". So it's very cool that it is being re-released for the first time.

Don't let the whiners fool you. Nintendo could announce the NSO is adding Chrono Trigger, the entire GameCube library, and they're paying off all Nintendo users' student loans, mortgages and credit card debt in full.

And they would still just moan and complain. Day after day.

These lists are so long and full of noise I can't even be bothered reading them anymore. We need some way of filtering out the pure shovelware from the actual releases.

That's what the poll results do?

The top 3 most popular this week:

  • Sam & Max: The Complete Trilogy
  • Crypt Custodian
  • Arcade Archives KNUCKLE HEADS

It has been a barren few weeks, but there's usually still a game or 2 worth a look.

I heard that it runs on a credit system that only gives you enough to see half the exhibits in one visit? Is there a way to purchase a full visit, or do you HAVE to go on two separate days to see it all?

I think the point of it is to prevent people from hogging the experiences. So it will give you like a "game over", and you'll have to "sign in" with a different access card to continue, forcing you to go do something else in the museum and letting everyone have a chance to have fun.

A little googling of Reddit says it's the first, and 2 sources on Wikipedia:

"...the first M-rated title developed internally by Nintendo."

"...a Mature-rated title developed by Nintendo...an unprecedented thing for the company."

@whitespy12

Yup, loving all of old Japan-exclusives getting re-released!

I have everything you listed except I didn't get the Great Yokai Battle collection because I just wanted the old games, so I got the other collection without the new one.

But did you get the Ninja JaJaMaru: The Lost RPGs collection? I don't believe that is included in the Great Yokai Battle Deluxe collection.

Hmm...maybe I should give the new Great Yokai Battle game another look. It was just 80% off, that would be enough to entice me.
