Re: "It Was A Bit Of A Perplexing Experience" - Hideki Kamiya On The Fan Reaction To Bayonetta 3

MasterGraveheart

Bayonetta 3 was decent, but my big problem was the ending, and the way it felt like it pivoted from Cereza & Jeanne to Cereza and Luka, just so they could have a kid to carry on the next trilogy of Bayonetta games. I dunno, maybe as much as I liked Bayo 2, best in the series, the way Bayo 3 flew in the face of the developments in the first two left a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, Jennifer Hale is always welcome. <3

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

MasterGraveheart

Donkey Kong Bananza, Cyberpunk, Street Fighter 6, and Mario Kart World are GREAT stuff, and I'm sure there's others I haven't picked up on, but the fact that there's so many have Switch 1 releases (Silksong, Deltarune), and so many are probably better purchased on the Switch 1 and getting the upgrade path (Final Fantasy Tactics), AND that so many of these games are Key Cards (basically almost every third party title...), AND that we don't have a lot announced from Nintendo that'll be Switch 2 exclusives (Tomodachi Life, Metroid Prime 4, all are gonna be Switch 1 games at their core), I'm sorry, I'm compelled to call it a 5 three months in.

There's games I'd love to see come out for Switch 2. Mario Maker 3, a new Pilotwings, etc. Of course we'll get Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon at some point. Those games will come. It's just slow going out of the gate.

What ultimately makes me happy with my Switch 2 purchase, though, is how much better games run in general on it. It really feels like buying a new computer and seeing that things could have been like this before. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, for example, while still flawed games, now actually feel like they had some effort put in... some, anyway. I no longer dread going to "Lag Lake" anymore and feel like I can complete my Violet playthrough! Imagine that!

Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games

MasterGraveheart

Gee, it's almost as if pricing games super high to have ALL TEH MONEYZ is a BAD idea, hm?

Team Cherry did a great thing. Selling it at a price that gives them more than enough profit, letting good will and effort carry the sales, using good marketing strategies, and (hopefully) pulling more than enough money to justify their efforts.

Not every game needs to be Grand Theft Auto 6 or Mario Kart World.

I reiterate: Lower the prices of the games, game makers! Learn from Team Cherry.

Re: More Switch Games Have Received Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

MasterGraveheart

Good, hopefully with more to come.

But the issue I REALLY want fixed is the "digital game/physical card" update loop issue.

See, if you have a digital game, and then buy the physical card, there's a chance the update that exists for the digital game and the physical card won't match. Usually, when this happens, the physical card will have an update number later than the digital game copy.

So, when you take a game, say, Coffee Talk, that you've been playing the physical game card version of, and you try to go back to the digital version for, say, a trip, when you try to start the digital game, you'll get prompted for an update. Try to do the update, after a moment, you'll get prompted to do the update again. Try to update again, wait, prompted all over.

I've had this problem with Coffee Talk and with Skellboy Refractured, two favorites of mine. So, sadly, if I ever wanna play them, I either need to figure out the answer (so far, the only solution being a factory reset... despite the fact I've moved systems twice now) or just accept I have two useless digital copies now and continue on with my physical cards.

Apparently, this problem also exists for VVVVVV, but I've not confirmed it.

When will this issue be fixed? I dunno. I've written devs, no answers.

Re: "The Best-Looking Thing I've Seen On Switch 2" - Digital Foundry Talks Final Fantasy 7 Remake

MasterGraveheart

@Truegamer79 You're gonna need the digital space either way. If the pre-order physical bonuses (if any) don't sway you, just go pure digital and skip the key card. That's what I'm gonna do... until they announce, like, a Tifa statue or something that's gonna try and tempt me... that'd be, like, the one thing that could persuade me. Something big and spendy of my favorite character... ^^;

Re: Japan's National Library Says Game-Key Cards Are Not Eligible For Preservation

MasterGraveheart

@HalBailman The price thing doesn't quite matter as much to me. If the prices are equivalent, and it's a choice between a digital copy and a key card, I'm going digital because the key card has nothing to preserve your purchase on it, and it takes up the game card slot. Digital vs. card with game at the same price, maybe a little extra for shipping if my friendly local indy store doesn't have it? Card with game for me.

Re: Feature: 32 Games We're Dying To See On Switch 2

MasterGraveheart

Since it seems all but certain we'll get the full FF7R trilogy on Switch 2, this makes it easy for me.

Metaphor, Marvel Rivals, Expedition 33, Doom, Final Fantasy XIV, Baldur's Gate 3, NieR, Indiana Jones, Halo, Hi-Fi Rush... and a NON-CLOUD KINGDOM HEARTS TRILOGY as my own little add.

Re: Octopath 0 Is A Game-Key Card On Switch 2, And Square Enix Has "No Plans" For A Switch 1 Upgrade Option

MasterGraveheart

@Anachronism I know that it wasn’t a direct quote, but considering Miyamoto-led games are very story-light, repeat the story done before (Star Fox Zero from Star Fox 64), the way Rosalina was all but retconned in Super Mario Galaxy 2 over the storybook scenes as confirmed by devs, the simple (though enjoyable) approach to the Mario Movie, it becomes a perception that is going to be hard to beat. It isn’t a bad way to do things, but it comes with accepting you’re gonna remember the gameplay and aesthetics more than you will the story.

Again, it isn’t a bad thing! But you don’t remember Michaelangelo for his poems.

Re: Octopath 0 Is A Game-Key Card On Switch 2, And Square Enix Has "No Plans" For A Switch 1 Upgrade Option

MasterGraveheart

This is all about the gradual phase-out of physical media, and this is Nintendo's part. Game Key Cards are so unappealing that people are skipping them for the purely digital version, which will lead to fewer cards entirely, which will lead to companies justifying cutting down manufacturing costs.

It's all about profit in the end for these companies. As Miyamoto says, to them, games are a product, not an art. Preservation means nothing to all of them.

Re: Shantae's Long Lost GBA Sequel 'Risky Revolution' Gets Switch Release Date

MasterGraveheart

@Nintenchrome Don't be. The outfits may be risque, but you don't get a lot of "check out my body" in the game, short of some of Risky's innuendos in the first couple games. And they're a lot of fun. If you want Metroidvanias, you got OG, Risky's Revenge, and Seven Sirens. If you want level-by-level DuckTales-like stuff, that's Half Genie Hero and, to an extent, Pirate's Curse. Lots of fun to be had that isn't coded in provocativeness.

Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

MasterGraveheart

Never been a fan of iFixIt. He comes across as a sleezy con-artist who just wants to sell his own stuff off of his "hot takes."

Mine works great. I don't need my Switch 2 Pro Controller to control a laser-accurate shaving razor from orbit or turn on my car from my bedroom. It just needs to PLAY THE GAMES.

And frankly, I've had all of two sets of controllers drift on me, and they were JoyCons. The Pros have always been reliable, knock on wood. I don't know what people are doing to these controllers. Maybe stop treating games like life-or-death fights for survival? shrug

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

MasterGraveheart

@kmtrain83 Gameplay was fine. The issue came when jumping between games. I don't just play one game for the day, I play a bunch. And many of those are on cards, so, the inconvenience of losing my card slot to play what amounts to a digital game is a huge detriment to me. For example, I'll do my daily run in Animal Crossing (both on cards), then play some of my daily digital games like My Hero Ultra Rumble and Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel, then move on to wanna play whatever game(s) I'm working on at the moment, which include Cyberpunk 2077 and Street Fighter 6. Cyberpunk is a physical edition for me, but SF6 is the GKC. If SF6 is installed on the system as if it were a digital copy, why am I bothering with a physical card?

What would make the GKCs more bearable is if you only had to have it installed, say, once a week or two weeks as something of an authentication check-in, then be able to keep the slot free after. It wouldn't be great, but to have that convenience of the freed up card slot would be huge for me.

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

MasterGraveheart

We know Nintendo is keeping the smaller cards to themselves, which is not okay in of itself. The next question is: What's the cost difference between a 64GB card and a Game Key Card. If the amount is relatively small, then we can easily accuse the big companies of being cheap, especially considering how inexpensive a 64GB card is these days.

THAT SAID!

It's also just as likely that Nintendo is being greedy on the subject and they're letting the success of the Switch 1 adversely affect the Switch 2 out of the gate. It's my hope that this situation course-corrects.

Because as of right now, I have no incentive to wanna buy "Game Key Cards." I tried it out with Street Fighter 6, but I don't like it, frankly. Using my physical slot to play a digital game is honestly awful. I'm passing on the Dragon Quest I & II "physical" editions because of it. The only game I would buy it for again at this point is Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and only if it had one of those nice deluxe editions. Otherwise, this might be the generation that makes me go primarily digital, which is likely the end goal here.

Re: Pauline's Age In Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Revealed

MasterGraveheart

I honestly don't think this deserves too much deep lore thought. Things will change with characters on a whim. It's just like Zelda and the supposed timelines. Some games are loosely connected, some are standalone, don't lose sleep, people.

Not everything needs every box checked for lore and detail stuffs.
