Re: Video: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Official Side-By-Side Comparison (Switch 2, Xbox, PS5, PC)

MasterGraveheart

So, without taking a super microscopic look? They all legitimately look the same. At some point, graphics just stop being "better" and start just being "more." And you start running out of places to put the polygons. Soon, it won't be so much about polygons (thank goodness) and more about performance, and from all reports, it sounds like FF7R on Switch is performing BEAUTIFULLY. Not 120fps, obviously, but still dang good.

What I really hope we get is a photo mode for Switch 2.

Re: Nintendo Goes Full Pixar In Strange New Animated Short Film, 'Close To You'

MasterGraveheart

I have no idea what this was. It's so hard to figure out. A few franchises do come to mind, like Chibi-Robo and Pikmin, but it's hard to pin down.

Chibi-Robo is my first go-to thought, but, would Nintendo really be ready to bring that franchise back in any way? As expensive as things are, I feel like they're gonna wanna stick to their most profitable franchises.

Sorry, Star Fox...

Re: "I Feel A Great Responsibility To Get It Right" - Naoki Hamaguchi On The Pressure Of Remaking Final Fantasy VII

MasterGraveheart

@AussieMcBucket Yep, I think it'd be all good! I think there are advantages to playing the OG, such as picking up on references, but I wouldn't call it REQUIRED reading, y'know?

But I do also agree with @w1p3out that it's still worth playing the original. It's like, two different flavors of ice cream. Both good, both worthwhile, but you're going to get two different experiences.

But I am going to say if you wanna start with the Remake trilogy, there's nothing wrong with that.

Re: "I Feel A Great Responsibility To Get It Right" - Naoki Hamaguchi On The Pressure Of Remaking Final Fantasy VII

MasterGraveheart

I'm confident in the process for the trilogy. They've made it clear they want to actually retell the original story, so, I'm not expecting any twists like "ZOMG, AERITH LIVES" or any "multiverse" or "timeline" jargon. Those ideas are largely smoke and mirrors to keep the suspense up for those of us who have played the original. But I'm not expecting any big deviations from what the original story was in the end.

Expand, grow, and detail. Don't deviate.

Re: "I Feel A Great Responsibility To Get It Right" - Naoki Hamaguchi On The Pressure Of Remaking Final Fantasy VII

MasterGraveheart

@AussieMcBucket As a thorough fan of the original, I'd say it's not necessary. The Remake trilogy is largely a retelling with some smoke and mirrors to deceive the veterans into anticipating something new, but by and large, it's hit every single beat, but expanded on it all. It also fleshes out the characters much better, especially Yuffie, who was relegated to secret character status in the OG.

Re: Feature: Who Is Devon Pritchard? - Meet The Next NOA President Stepping Into Bowser's Boots

MasterGraveheart

The only thing positive about Doug Bowser was that one meme photo of him with the Mario Bros. plushies tied up together... and nothing since. It was clear he was more about the business than the fun. It's my hope that Ms. Pritchard's tenure is more Reggie and less Bowser.

I know Nintendo of Japan has final say on that kind of stuff, but I feel like Reggie had some footing and presence for that. He often appeared alongside Iwata, Miyamoto, and others. Hopefully Pritchard can be in their ear on a positive note too.

Re: "It Was A Bit Of A Perplexing Experience" - Hideki Kamiya On The Fan Reaction To Bayonetta 3

MasterGraveheart

Bayonetta 3 was decent, but my big problem was the ending, and the way it felt like it pivoted from Cereza & Jeanne to Cereza and Luka, just so they could have a kid to carry on the next trilogy of Bayonetta games. I dunno, maybe as much as I liked Bayo 2, best in the series, the way Bayo 3 flew in the face of the developments in the first two left a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, Jennifer Hale is always welcome. <3

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

MasterGraveheart

Donkey Kong Bananza, Cyberpunk, Street Fighter 6, and Mario Kart World are GREAT stuff, and I'm sure there's others I haven't picked up on, but the fact that there's so many have Switch 1 releases (Silksong, Deltarune), and so many are probably better purchased on the Switch 1 and getting the upgrade path (Final Fantasy Tactics), AND that so many of these games are Key Cards (basically almost every third party title...), AND that we don't have a lot announced from Nintendo that'll be Switch 2 exclusives (Tomodachi Life, Metroid Prime 4, all are gonna be Switch 1 games at their core), I'm sorry, I'm compelled to call it a 5 three months in.

There's games I'd love to see come out for Switch 2. Mario Maker 3, a new Pilotwings, etc. Of course we'll get Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon at some point. Those games will come. It's just slow going out of the gate.

What ultimately makes me happy with my Switch 2 purchase, though, is how much better games run in general on it. It really feels like buying a new computer and seeing that things could have been like this before. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, for example, while still flawed games, now actually feel like they had some effort put in... some, anyway. I no longer dread going to "Lag Lake" anymore and feel like I can complete my Violet playthrough! Imagine that!

Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games

MasterGraveheart

Gee, it's almost as if pricing games super high to have ALL TEH MONEYZ is a BAD idea, hm?

Team Cherry did a great thing. Selling it at a price that gives them more than enough profit, letting good will and effort carry the sales, using good marketing strategies, and (hopefully) pulling more than enough money to justify their efforts.

Not every game needs to be Grand Theft Auto 6 or Mario Kart World.

I reiterate: Lower the prices of the games, game makers! Learn from Team Cherry.

Re: More Switch Games Have Received Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

MasterGraveheart

Good, hopefully with more to come.

But the issue I REALLY want fixed is the "digital game/physical card" update loop issue.

See, if you have a digital game, and then buy the physical card, there's a chance the update that exists for the digital game and the physical card won't match. Usually, when this happens, the physical card will have an update number later than the digital game copy.

So, when you take a game, say, Coffee Talk, that you've been playing the physical game card version of, and you try to go back to the digital version for, say, a trip, when you try to start the digital game, you'll get prompted for an update. Try to do the update, after a moment, you'll get prompted to do the update again. Try to update again, wait, prompted all over.

I've had this problem with Coffee Talk and with Skellboy Refractured, two favorites of mine. So, sadly, if I ever wanna play them, I either need to figure out the answer (so far, the only solution being a factory reset... despite the fact I've moved systems twice now) or just accept I have two useless digital copies now and continue on with my physical cards.

Apparently, this problem also exists for VVVVVV, but I've not confirmed it.

When will this issue be fixed? I dunno. I've written devs, no answers.

Re: "The Best-Looking Thing I've Seen On Switch 2" - Digital Foundry Talks Final Fantasy 7 Remake

MasterGraveheart

@Truegamer79 You're gonna need the digital space either way. If the pre-order physical bonuses (if any) don't sway you, just go pure digital and skip the key card. That's what I'm gonna do... until they announce, like, a Tifa statue or something that's gonna try and tempt me... that'd be, like, the one thing that could persuade me. Something big and spendy of my favorite character... ^^;

Re: Japan's National Library Says Game-Key Cards Are Not Eligible For Preservation

MasterGraveheart

@HalBailman The price thing doesn't quite matter as much to me. If the prices are equivalent, and it's a choice between a digital copy and a key card, I'm going digital because the key card has nothing to preserve your purchase on it, and it takes up the game card slot. Digital vs. card with game at the same price, maybe a little extra for shipping if my friendly local indy store doesn't have it? Card with game for me.

Re: Feature: 32 Games We're Dying To See On Switch 2

MasterGraveheart

Since it seems all but certain we'll get the full FF7R trilogy on Switch 2, this makes it easy for me.

Metaphor, Marvel Rivals, Expedition 33, Doom, Final Fantasy XIV, Baldur's Gate 3, NieR, Indiana Jones, Halo, Hi-Fi Rush... and a NON-CLOUD KINGDOM HEARTS TRILOGY as my own little add.

Re: Octopath 0 Is A Game-Key Card On Switch 2, And Square Enix Has "No Plans" For A Switch 1 Upgrade Option

MasterGraveheart

@Anachronism I know that it wasn’t a direct quote, but considering Miyamoto-led games are very story-light, repeat the story done before (Star Fox Zero from Star Fox 64), the way Rosalina was all but retconned in Super Mario Galaxy 2 over the storybook scenes as confirmed by devs, the simple (though enjoyable) approach to the Mario Movie, it becomes a perception that is going to be hard to beat. It isn’t a bad way to do things, but it comes with accepting you’re gonna remember the gameplay and aesthetics more than you will the story.

Again, it isn’t a bad thing! But you don’t remember Michaelangelo for his poems.

Re: Octopath 0 Is A Game-Key Card On Switch 2, And Square Enix Has "No Plans" For A Switch 1 Upgrade Option

MasterGraveheart

This is all about the gradual phase-out of physical media, and this is Nintendo's part. Game Key Cards are so unappealing that people are skipping them for the purely digital version, which will lead to fewer cards entirely, which will lead to companies justifying cutting down manufacturing costs.

It's all about profit in the end for these companies. As Miyamoto says, to them, games are a product, not an art. Preservation means nothing to all of them.
