Re: Donkey Kong Country Artist Shares His Thoughts On Kong's New Design

MasterGraveheart

I've "notoriously" said some pretty harsh things about the redesign after the original reveal in the Mario Kart World teaser a few weeks ago (dumpy-looking was the word I used, I think), but my opinion did a complete 180 once I saw how much more vibrant and animated he was yesterday. Now I love it!

I think I'll always be partial to the more "don't mess with me" style the Country-version DK was, but this was SO much better and put the new Donkey Kong in his best light.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Removal Of Switch Online SNES Game

MasterGraveheart

I think this goes to show that we need something more like the Netflix or iTunes of gaming (in concept, not necessarily practice, don't downvote me yet!). Something that can be accessed on multiple different platforms, easy to sift through, play on a subscription basis... something to preserve older games. I know it's not perfect, but something that can help with the preservation. Especially for obscure and rare titles like this one. Sure, you'll get stubborn Nintendo, Sony, Capcom, or whatever trying to do their own thing forever and eternity, but games preservation is a huge deal, and in the relative early stages of its life cycle, we need to see more done for preservation, and no, piracy of often-shoddy roms isn't enough (not to say I'm against game piracy these days with the way the biggest companies have been acting). Much of cinema and literature's earliest days are lost, and games are at risk of falling prey to this without better preservation.

Re: How Would You Rate The Pokémon Presents Showcase For February 2025?

MasterGraveheart

Not being interested in the gatcha games (aside from Go for the shiny chances alone), it still somehow sunk below my expectations. I was excited for Z-A, but after seeing it, my excitement was actually tempered from seeing the graphics and the poor scaling (what did they do to Onix?!).

My other big hope was for shiny cover legendary raids or gifts for Scarlet and Violet and we get... Rotom phone covers, pseudo-legendary raids and starter raids. I mean, starters, fine, but, they're not necessarily exciting, y'know? At least there'll be shiny chances.

Like, again, my expectations were low, but... wow.

At least I got a few Shiny Genesect and Tornadus last night. That was MY Pokémon Day!

Re: Poll: Which Pokémon Game Really Deserves A Remake Next?

MasterGraveheart

I want my Black & White remakes, but I don't want it to be like they were for BDSP. I don't want a bare-minimum graphics upgrade, and certainly not in that style. I wanna see it be the Scarlet & Violet graphical style with all the bells and whistles. Find a way to hybrid it with Black 2 & White 2, and we're golden.

Re: Hands On: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - A Decade On, Mira's Still Got It

MasterGraveheart

One of my all-time favorite games, back, and better than ever. The fun thing is? Having done so much to explore last time around? I think this time around, I'm gonna be much more thorough going world-by-world... it'll probably help me from eating a bunch of team-wipes too and actually get used to combat instead of just trying to power through everything like a brute. XD

Re: Talking Point: Where Should 'Luigi's Mansion 4' Take Place?

MasterGraveheart

Bowser's Castle would be my choice out of these, and I think a cruise ship would be really good too (especially if you get Daisy involved!). But my first instinct was a homage to Super Mario 64. Make L real and have Luigi have to clean up Peach's Castle of ghosts! They're already a presence, so, there's some lore to build off of there! And hey, maybe the paintings could encroach on the castle and merge the landscapes a bit?

Re: Harvest Moon's New "Cozy" Switch Bundle Revives Two 3DS Titles This Summer

MasterGraveheart

Right, so, this is "new" Harvest Moon, not the original that is now Story of Seasons, right? It's so very confusing keeping these straight...

But, anyway, it's hard for me to get into other cozy farming sims after Stardew Valley. It just nailed that mechanic so beautifully. And what I appreciate most is the pace. You're never rushed. The original Harvest Moons had me on such a bad timer, it was hard to really enjoy my run, y'know? Has that gotten any better in later installments?

Re: New-Look Donkey Kong Items Now Available On The My Nintendo Store

MasterGraveheart

I genuinely hate this new design. This DK isn't king of anything. He's dumpy unemployed DK.

Like, he isn't even movie DK. He's a DK who has raided your fridge and is asking if you'd go out and pick him up some chicken nuggets before he binge watches something off of your streaming services while crashing on your couch. Like he's between jobs and desperately trying to figure out how he'll freeload off of you for another day.

If they wanted to move away from the DKC Donkey Kong look, you could have still gone with either the movie or the Game Boy game version. This dead-eyed doofus does nothing for me.

Re: Nintendo Bags GLAAD Nomination For Paper Mario's Trans Representation

MasterGraveheart

I'm a supporter of the LGBT+ community. It's a political minefield on the subject, and in the U.S., with the way politics is going, it feels like the attitude towards that community is getting worse. These are human beings. Plain and simple. And they deserve to be treated like human beings. This includes recognition and representation. Not in a "here, but not there" kind of thing. Human beings. Created equal. Key word, equal.

Nintendo of America didn't do the right thing in censoring it completely in the original release (I'm against censorship too, btw). They somewhat righted the ship here. Vivian is a great character, and one that can challenge perceptions and help people see the world around them is a lot more dynamic than they thought or expected. She's worth celebrating.

Now, do I think Nintendo's gonna win this award? Probably not. Lots of strong nominations. Would I like them? That's hard to say, because again, lots of strong nominations. But you know what I hope? I hope this is a sign of things to come for Nintendo and they can get nominated for these kinds of awards more often.

Sorry for getting deep on this one, but, frankly, representation is at risk more than ever these days, so to see it championed is worth celebrating and acknowledging.

Re: New Mario Kart 9 Teased For Switch 2

MasterGraveheart

Of course there's Mario Kart. It's like scampi at Bubba Gump's "Of course we have scampi." Of course we have Mario Kart!

Though, tbh, I'm still kinda hoping this ends up being something like "Smash Kart," and they start inviting more than just the Mario crew to play. I know they did that with 8, but, let's expand. Samus in a Gunship kart. Nell from Advance Wars in a tank. Pit in a chariot.

Heck, go third party while you're at it! Cloud on Fenrir. Tifa in the buggy. Travis Touchdown on his motorcycle. Dr. Eggman in the Egg Mobile. Have a blast with that kinda thing!

Re: Square Enix May Withhold Its Own Products If You Harrass Its Staff

MasterGraveheart

Why do I get the feeling this is largely due to a certain "love triangle" issue surrounding a certain upcoming third part of a certain trilogy?

Now, this could also, and more likely, just be a general thing that's going on, and that's wholly possible too, especially considering Square Enix's interest in dipping into A"I" and other morally questionable decisions, and while I wholly endorse taking the higher ups to task in a civil manner, to harass the lower staff is definitely not cool.

Re: Physical Game Sales Took A Nosedive In The UK Last Year

MasterGraveheart

I'm going to prefer physical media for a long time, largely because the contractual licensing and the tendencies for listings for digital to come and go at a moment's notice is extremely off-putting to me. I also don't particularly like to stream when I can own. I mean, I use streaming services, but I also own the movies I like most. Just recently got Godzilla Minus One for Christmas, as well as the Marvel vs. Capcom collection physical.

We'll be digital only one day, I'm sure. But when that day comes, it's my hope that the industry is in a healthier place with preservation, availability, and convenience.

Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good

MasterGraveheart

"I got someone from, let's say a studio close to Punch-Out, drunk at a bar..."

Uhhhh... okay then! I still want an HD remake of the Wii version, though. I remember a video on YouTube by Gaijin Goombah, who talked about the positive characteristics of the Wii Punch-Out characters (except for Super Macho Man and Aran Ryan, who were total jerks), as well as the attention to detail in the languages they spoke.

So, if this is true, it makes me sad, because the Wii Punch-Out did so much right in trying to avoid negative stereotypes.
