Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

Folkloner

Considering all the "leakers" guesses for the Switch 1 Direct turned out to be wrong, then outside of Mario Kart 9, there's no point in being confident in one's predictions about the Switch 2 Direct

Nintendo have shown time and time again that they're full of surprises, and Wednesday next week will prove to be no exception.

Re: Rumour: A Switch 1 Direct Presentation May Take Place This Week

Folkloner

"It's curious that multiple sources have cropped up that seemingly hint toward the same thing"

Is it? It's grifter playbook 101 behaviour.

See new utterly fabricated guess online, jump on the bandwagon to appear like you are in the 'know', gaming media like Nintendo Life take the bait, give it credibility it doesn't warrant, and notoriety to those who don't deserve it, then they either get lucky and everyone naively calls them reliable, or they miss, and they say "plans changed"

Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit

Folkloner

If they had any ethics they'd realise the "depressing day" was when they decided to co-opt Pokemon art assets for their creature designs and infringing on patents

The lawsuits that have befallen them are a direct results of their own cynical choices and brazen commitment to copying what others have done. None of the other monster catching games are catching strays from the Pokemon Company and PocketPair are being shamelessly disingenuous when they don't candidly acknowledge why that is

Re: Nintendo Switch Hardware Sales Pass 150 Million, With PS2's Record Still A Way Off

Folkloner

@Gs69 Until Sony produces actual documented evidence to corroborate their 160M+ sell-through claim, then games media should put an asterisk next to their PS2 lifetime sales claim.

All we have to go on presently is Sony's word and a photograph of a PS2 with a commemorative note on it citing 160M units produced. Production does not equal sales.

Where is the indisputable evidence Sony?

Re: Of Course Nintendo Switch 2 Experience Tickets Are Being Listed On eBay

Folkloner

Since the article failed to adequately explain it, can anyone explain how a ticket is non-transferable in practice?

There's no requirement to have a profile pic on your Nintendo Account, and unless Nintendo are conducting additional identity checks on the door, the only thing they say you explicitly require to gain access to the event is the QR code they send successful applicants via email.

The email even advises you to print out your e-ticket to present on the day in-case wi-fi is spotty, which would allow you to bypass a hypothetical (though not foolproof) check whereby they ask you to login and present your e-ticket via your Nintendo Account

Re: PSA: Trading Is Finally Live In Pokémon TCG Pocket, But It's A Real Headache

Folkloner

What an arse-end-backwards way of conducting trades. Why not let players select the card they wish to trade for from a friend's collection and vice versa

I wish they'd leveraged Stardust as a trading currency, not only to increase its value and use cases, but also to avoid the introduction of yet another new set of currencies. There's far too many as is.

Re: Nintendo Is "Very Upset" About The Switch 2 Leaks, It's Claimed

Folkloner

@VHSGREMLIN We have no proof they delayed the announcement once, let alone constantly.

What you deem curiosity, I call toxic fan entitlement, and the obsession of vulturous "leakers" with obtaining cheap internet fame. I find it honestly petty, lazy, and pathetic to steal the announcement of a product or a creative piece of work away from the talented folks who created it.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday

Folkloner

@Mirastrix It's honestly insane at this point how much games media platforms this guy, promotes his podcast, and drives all the leaker worshippers to hang on their false idol's every word

It's a podcast predictions video and games media treats it like it's gospel

It doesn't seem to matter how many times he's wrong either. So long as he was on the money with a few educated guesses, he'll always get the rub and be deemed reliable enough, regardless of repeated failures.

Clicks drive everything. Accountability be damned.

Re: Talking Point: Is The Switch 2 Going To Be Too Big?

Folkloner

When you measure it out, it's only 1.4cm's taller, 1.4cm wider at each end, and almost identical depth. I'd wager that holding the Switch 2 in your hands won't feel all that different from Switch 1.

This is without factoring in the weight differential, which is still unknown.

Re: PS5 Will Sell More Than 'Switch 2' In The US This Year, Says Analyst

Folkloner

What a joke. He has no clue what the level of interest will be in the device or what the pre-launch, post-launch production numbers are for Switch 2 yet confidently predicts a supply shortage for later in the year

Maybe save your economic analysis for when you have real world data to analyse and make predictions on

Re: Rumour: New 'Switch 2' Leak Suggests Console Will Require A 60W Charger

Folkloner

Laura Kate Dale - "Don't expect anything else from me"

In before she breaks that promise when the same source supplies her with another "verifiable" Switch 2 image a few days from now.

Laura's promises count for nothing. Many years ago she promised not to publish any Switch 1 leaks ahead of a Direct. She of course broke that promise and tweeted them regardless to boost her online profile. (the leaks turned out to be false)

Re: Those Switch 2 Leaks "Might Be Legit" According To A New Report

Folkloner

Is no-one in games media verifying the legitimacy of sources anymore? Some random Redditor can claim something and it guarantees an article. Journalist standards must have been higher in the days of print media because I don't recall two page spreads in gaming magazines with utter fabrications from clout-chasers off the street

Re: As Switch Closes The Gap, Sony Officially Confirms PS2 Has Sold "Over" 160 Million Units

Folkloner

This is just Sony deviously announcing the sell-in / wholesale number (units produced) as the sell-through number (units sold)

They can't even keep their own story straight. Sony Interactive's own website lists the number of PS2 units sold to retailers as 155m+

https://sonyinteractive.com/en/our-company/business-data-sales/

It shouldn't be hard. They must have the figures.

Just announce the sell-in number (sold to retailers) and the sell-through number (sold to customers) and back it up with evidence from your official public financial reports

If they aren't prepared to do that, then the official sell-through figure can sit at 155M

Re: Feature: "I Don’t Want To See It Fizzle Out” - Stardew Valley Creator On Why He Can't Give It Up

Folkloner

@Zach777 This.

The main thing the game needs in my opinion is a longer day night cycle. I've never found the game cosy to play. Every single second feels tense and frantic because there's so little time to get anything done. Even walking from the farm to town eats up a lot of time

It's ironic really considering Stardew Valley is meant to be the evolution of classic Harvest Moon, and yet it embodies the worst excesses of those old games, namely the lack of time, and deliberately opaque systems that you can only discover through trial and error or a need to frequent forums and follow guides

Re: Nintendo Lowers Its Hardware Forecast As Switch Sales Slow To A Crawl

Folkloner

6.84M hardware units in the first half of FY25 does not constitute Switch sales slowing to a crawl.

If it repeats that for the second half of the year, it will have sold 13.68M units. Perfectly fine for a, by then, 8 year old system.

If projections hold, Switch will be at 152.88M come the start of April 2025, then it can have a slow "crawl" towards surpassing the PS2's 155M

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Fans Are Once Again Discussing The Game's Censorship

Folkloner

Some people need to learn the definition of words.

Discretion or moderation is the rights holder / publisher making a choice and saying “I/we won’t do that here" either because it doesn't fit with the company's image or they wish to align with cultural sensibilities or notions of taste

”Censorship is someone saying “you can’t do that anywhere” before or after threats of either violence or government intervention
