Re: Nintendo Reveals New Details For Endless Ocean Luminous

Folkloner

Still feel like I need to know a lot more, especially about the single player (is there a single player campaign?) and whether there's any actual story or plot we'll be following.

Is diver customisation purely cosmetic or will gear have an impact on say how fast you can swim, how much air you can carry, how deep you can dive etc

Is there anything to collect and catalogue besides fish, such as relics or places of interest?

Re: New Mario Movie Concept Art Shows Princess Daisy In Action

Folkloner

@AmplifyMJ No worries. The original reveal was during the recent LEGO Super Mario video.

It's textbook Nintendo social media behaviour to re-broadcast announcements a few days after the initial one. It helps to give a singular piece of news its own spotlight, to advertise it to those who missed it, and to drum up further conversation.

Re: Rumour: Switch Successor Might Not Be Launching Until 2025

Folkloner

Everyone and his Poochie could've predicted the Switch follow-up was coming out at the end of 2024 or Financial Year 2024/25

All these attention seekers with their "whispers" and "sources" are flailing in the dark, hoping to hit the light switch. As blind as the rest of us on the matter.

Wish they'd all just quieten down and wait until official news. We've got plenty of games to play in the meantime. The truth is, they can't, because the clicks are their meal ticket and they got to eat. We do need to be smarter when it comes to swallowing their guesswork though.

Re: Review: Eastward: Octopia (Switch) - A Great Farm Sim Expansion That Edges Out The Base Game

Folkloner

@SwitchVogel Yeah, that's almost certainly true, and that's absolutely a plus for Eastward owners. The trade-off is that for those who don't own Eastward, the cost 'is' high since you need to own both - and if you're only interested in Octopia, then the perceived value is lower still.

We have seen some sales on Switch that were discounted 'if' you already owned another title from the same developer/publisher.

Perhaps Pixpil should've offered Octopia standalone at a higher price for newcomers, with a discount for those that already owned Eastward. That flexibility would've been better I feel.

Re: Review: Eastward: Octopia (Switch) - A Great Farm Sim Expansion That Edges Out The Base Game

Folkloner

Picked up both Eastward and Eastward: Octopia but only because both were on sale.

I'm enjoying both but I feel Octopia should've been its own standalone release.

Octopia having little to do with the original game negates the necessity of tying the two together.

Eastward isn't a new title on Switch, and so I fear that now the Game Trial and sales have ended, requiring newcomers to make two separate purchases to play Octopia is only going to hurt its sales potential in the long run

Re: Random: AI GameShark Successor Claims To Know Switch 2 Release Date, Then Backtracks

Folkloner

@Spider-Kev Indeed. So tired of the endless parade of shameless grifters and click farmers given a platform by traffic hungry websites like this one.

If anything, this story is even worse since the source admits it's guesswork, and it 'still' somehow qualifies as deserving of an article.

Some sites like Nintendo Everything usually have a higher standard, only posting "rumours" when there's some hard evidence behind them, but even they are joining the race to the bottom in the hopes of getting more eyes on their content.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins Nintendo GOTY At Golden Joystick Awards 2023

Folkloner

I wouldn't put much stock into GOTY awards, especially the Golden Joysticks. The result basically means, the people who voted, who are always predominantly fans of PC, Xbox and Playstation systems, have chosen a multiplatform game as no.1

On a wider note, I detest the infantile obsession with having there be only 'one' GOTY. Why not 3, or 5?

Having there be only one just needlessly diminishes those below as inferior and feeds into all the dumb fanboy wars in threads like this one.

I'd prefer something akin to what the Strong Museum does, and have 8-10 games as part of a 'Game of the Year Class of 2023'. That would feel more grown up and representative.

Re: Review: Dave The Diver - One Of The Best Games In A Year Of Greats

Folkloner

@-wc- Honestly sounds like a 'you' problem. There's been thousands of games released for Nintendo Switch this year. If you can't find something to play and enjoy then maybe your gaming tastes are striflingly narrow and ultra specific 🤷‍♂️

It's either that, or you're burnt out on gaming and need to take a break.

Re: Random: Upcoming 'Like A Dragon' Title Is Basically Animal Crossing Now

Folkloner

@nhSnork Quite possibly the dumbest comment in a long time. Switch has DOOM, White Dead, Hotline Miami, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma, the Sinking City, Hellblade, and the list goes on and on.

Yakuza games absence on Switch has bugger all to do with how "mature" or "gritty" the games are, and more to do with the developers ignorant and dismissive attitude towards the platform.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

Folkloner

Funnily enough, the article spends more time on, and makes a better case 'for' backwards compatibility.

The only reasons you put forward for why Switch 2 doesn't need it are piracy due to a flawed chipset, which carries no weight as that vulnerability on Switch has already been taken care of. The second point about Switch being less bulky than previous Nintendo hardware, thus it isn't as much of a chore to go back to, and doesn't take up as much space in your entertainment centre, is weak at best.
