Re: Feature: "I Don’t Want To See It Fizzle Out” - Stardew Valley Creator On Why He Can't Give It Up

Folkloner

@Zach777 This.

The main thing the game needs in my opinion is a longer day night cycle. I've never found the game cosy to play. Every single second feels tense and frantic because there's so little time to get anything done. Even walking from the farm to town eats up a lot of time

It's ironic really considering Stardew Valley is meant to be the evolution of classic Harvest Moon, and yet it embodies the worst excesses of those old games, namely the lack of time, and deliberately opaque systems that you can only discover through trial and error or a need to frequent forums and follow guides

Re: Nintendo Lowers Its Hardware Forecast As Switch Sales Slow To A Crawl

Folkloner

6.84M hardware units in the first half of FY25 does not constitute Switch sales slowing to a crawl.

If it repeats that for the second half of the year, it will have sold 13.68M units. Perfectly fine for a, by then, 8 year old system.

If projections hold, Switch will be at 152.88M come the start of April 2025, then it can have a slow "crawl" towards surpassing the PS2's 155M

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Fans Are Once Again Discussing The Game's Censorship

Folkloner

Some people need to learn the definition of words.

Discretion or moderation is the rights holder / publisher making a choice and saying “I/we won’t do that here" either because it doesn't fit with the company's image or they wish to align with cultural sensibilities or notions of taste

”Censorship is someone saying “you can’t do that anywhere” before or after threats of either violence or government intervention

Re: Video: 9 Exciting Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In October 2024

Only 9? Missing at least 11 games on Switch, and 1 on Mobile, that deserve a mention:

Sky Oceans (Skies of Arcade-like)
Crow Country
Wildermyth
YS X Nordics
F-Zero Climax (NSO)
F-Zero GP Legend (NSO)
Clock Tower Rewind
Amber Isle
Date Everything
Core Keeper
Broken Sword - Shadows Of The Templar's

Pokemon TCG Pocket

Re: Palworld Developer Responds To Nintendo Lawsuit

Folkloner

What a load of santicmonious bilge from Pocket Pair. There are plenty of monster-catching indie games on Nintendo platforms, and Nintendo themselves have demonstrably shown they're happy to promote them.

The difference being those games have an art direction that isn't based on shameless plagiarism and aren't prone to lifting creature designs from Pokemon games and kitbashing them together

Re: koROBO Devs Don't Want Fans To Approach Game As A New Chibi-Robo

Folkloner

I get that the developers want fans to judge this on its own terms but it's a bit much at this point to ask that they don't approach it as a Chibi-Robo game when from the main character to the gameplay, to the story, it's as close to a Chibi-Robo game as you can get without being one.

Hopefully, as work continues, and the project gets fleshed out, it'll develop an identity all its own.

Re: Random: The Last Pokémon Player On 3DS Online Shares Message Of Thanks

Folkloner

@JohnnyMind Hmm. Probably a dumb question but If Nintendo Network is only used to facilitate new connections, and active connections are P2P, if this was the last person online on a Pokemon 3DS title then they weren't connected to anyone else....so what exactly were they connected to if it wasn't Nintendo Network and it wasn't another player?

Re: Random: Four Players Remain On The Nintendo Network Servers, One Month After Closure

Folkloner

@Nintentoad125 What's wrong with a little perspective? The above people are like contestants in a 'keep touching the car challenge' for which there is no reward. What's to be applauded about keeping your console on all day and night whilst you sit in a lobby for a race that's never going to happen?

Better to realise it's a fruitless endeavour, move on, and engage in a more enjoyable gaming activity or otherwise.

Re: The First Switch Online Event For Endless Ocean Starts Next Week

Folkloner

@sanderev I'm not sure if you're being deliberately disingenuous but the negative reaction to Endless Ocean: Luminous has been quite clearly set out in reviews and impressions of the game.

A lot of it stems from the fact story missions are unforgivably short and egregiously gated, and that there's a complete lack of gameplay variety in comparison to previous titles.

By comparison, Endless Ocean 2 on Wii had multiple locations, more diverse missions, a far better and longer story, NPC's to talk to and get quests from, trainable dolphin pals, areas where you could explore on land, a homebase you could decorate, various tools to use, more ways to interact with fish, and lots more. None of those things are in Luminous and they're charging more for it.

There's less to Luminous than even the 17 year old Wii original. There's nothing wrong with review outlets and players having some standards and deeming this as regressive, underwhelming, disappointing, and even unacceptable. Hope this clears things up for you.

"Switch’s meager racing offerings"

Are you for real? At least do a little research into this area before spouting such untruths, especially given your interest in the genre. There's an avalanche of good racing games on Switch

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fuelled
Sonic Team Racing
GRID Autosport
Cruis'n Blast
NFS: Hot Pursuit
Burnout Paradise Remastered
F-Zero 99
Horizon Chase Turbo
Wreckfest
Hot Wheels Unleashed
Trials Rising
Lonely Mountains: Downhill
FAST RMX
WRC 10
Gear. Club Unlimited 2
Sega Ages Virtua Racing
Art of Rally
Hot Shot Racing
LEGO 2K Drive
V-Rally 4
SEGA Ages Outrun
Moto GP 20
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer
Burnout Paradise City
Circuit Superstars
Asphalt 9: Legends
...and more

Re: Review: Endless Ocean: Luminous (Switch) - A Meditative Marine Milieu, But Incredibly Shallow

Folkloner

Some people seem to be in denial. I'm a huge Endless Ocean fan but this feels like a big let down after Endless Ocean 2

No unique handcrafted areas, no gadgets like the Pulsar Gun or Multi-Sensor, less mission variety and a much weaker, shallow story mode compared to 1 or 2, the gear is cosmetic and doesn't affect your depth dive or air tank capacity, no NPC's to interact with, no on-land exploration like EO2, no customisable home base like EO2, no aquarium, no dolphin pals to train, and on and on the list of omissions goes

I was ready and willing to pay full price for this, and to support the franchise, but seeing as this is a disappointing and overly simplified downgrade in every way bar the graphics, I won't bother now.

Re: Nintendo Reveals New Details For Endless Ocean Luminous

Folkloner

@romanista I've been translating screengrabs from the Japanese site for the last hour. Here's some additional info not covered in the article above:

  • Some of the 578 creatures have 'variant forms'
  • Salvage treasures/objects from ocean floor as part of 'surveys' to unravel mysteries
  • Some areas can't be explored without 'special permission'
  • Creatures have a minimum and maximum size to uncover
  • Document creatures and discover treasures to unlock new diving suit colours.
  • Environments include coral reefs, caves, underwater volcanoes, shipwrecks, underwater temples, and more
  • When diving as a team, everyone starts from a different location in the area. As divers move, they can tag items and creatures. Once close enough to other divers, they can freely share that info.
  • Divers can use gestures to signal to others. As you accumulate experience, you can purchase more gestures.
  • Reveal 80% of an area to obtain an Ocean ID Code. Share the code or use it yourself to explore the same area.
