@Hwatt The info on the physical game box reads "The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comprises the Nintendo Switch game and the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack"
A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed in an interview with Vooks months before the console released that "...physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will include the original Nintendo Switch game and its upgrade pack all on the same game card"
I own some first party Switch 2 games on cart, and there was no prompt to download the upgrade pack when the game was first booted up.
If the previous poster's contention is simply that the data on the Switch 2 cart contains a Switch 1 game and the upgrade pack then that's really splitting hairs. This arrangement is what allows Switch 2 Edition carts to be played on Switch 1 consoles after all. A fully integrated Switch 2 only cartridge would only result in less benefit to end users
@Sindayl You've misread the update. It means if you load up Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (that's the name of the Nintendo Switch 1 version) on your Nintendo Switch 2 console then you'll be presented with the option for the upgrade path for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
So many people willing to spite their face by cutting off their nose. There's no reason to deny yourself the positive experience of playing a game you want. If you don't want to support GKC then purchase the digital version.
Anyone else curious what the Nintendo Switch 2 furniture item will play? ON ACNL, interacting with the 3DS console booted a unique game called 'Animal Crossing Puzzle League'. I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch 2 plays the same game or an entirely new one.
@Aeralto Is it? It sounds more like a lack of understanding on your part. Look up what VGC and Worlds mean in the context of Pokemon competitive and you'll find the sentence makes perfect sense.
@PinderSchloss This assumes you know the development story of this game which you do not. They may have always been robots
It's also preposterous to suggest they're being insensitive to wheelchair users. They're likely robots because of time and budget constraints, making it easier to reuse the same model instead of creating bespoke face, eye, hair, etc options for humans
You're ascribing motive where there is none. This isn't a deliberate attempt at representation or highlighting marginal groups. Nintendo are game developers. Wheelchair basketball just happened to be the perfect vehicle for showcasing dual Mouse mode tech as well as the ability to seemlessly switch between Mouse Mode for traversal and traditional motion controls when throwing or dunking
@Jedrus_Lilac Bang on the money, oh and look, here's Nintendo games media to help with that for the same reasons. The TikTok fool now likely thinks the whole stupid endeavour was worthwhile
@LastFootnote A day one patch for Bananza (ver.1.1.0) dropped earlier today
Ultimately, it would be prudent for them to delay their analysis until after the game has launched, so that the review guaranteed to be reflective of the technical performance of the game on day one.
Since their sole focus is on technical performance, Digital Foundry could really do with waiting until the day one patch is out before "reviewing" a game. What's the point of reviewing a pre-launch version of software that 99.9% of players aren't going to experience?
As it is, they run the risk of the review not reflecting the actual performance of the game on day one, and possibly misleading players as a result.
This is the safest guess of all time. Of course major third-parties have unannounced games for Nintendo Switch 2. Anyone can intuit such a thing. It's bleeding obvious. Games media really will print anything the grifters say.
Games media capitalising on bloviated drama from an e-commerce company with a vested interest in driving you to their site, and in particular, their online store selling tools and replacement parts.
Realistically, first party support for the Nintendo Switch 1 is going to dry up in the next 12 months as Nintendo transitions to a new platform. Hence the decision to discontinue the Game Voucher program.
My fear is that Trump's tariff obsession will continue to drive a volatile, uncertain economic climate dissuading Nintendo from pushing forward with replacement services for the Gold Points and Game Voucher programs for Switch 2 owners.
I'm of the opinion that these background images are so indistinguishably blurry that you could superimpose any N64 box art over them and it would "line up"
More like MiG Cart users, or should I say, pirates, are creating a problem for secondhand Switch 2 buyers. They are the ones failing to read the user agreement, actively bricking the system, and then returning them in a damaged state.
For their part, retail stores need to run a simple online verification check before accepting returns on Switch 2 consoles
Watch people pin this on tired adages like "Nintendo fans don't buy third-party games" or the lack of launch reviews, or Game-Key Cards, when it's more to do with the elevated price of Switch 2 ports coupled with the cost of living crisis leading to predictably economical behaviour from consumers that don't have the disposable income to fork out for more on top of the purchase of a new console and Mario Kart World.
"It should have been an OLED screen from the get-go"
Have Nintendo Life done the relevant research here to explore if there was a non cost-prohibitive 1080p HDR, VRR capable OLED screen available for mass production at the Switch 2's developmental inception to justify this tagline?
I'm reticent to trust teardowns from these businesses who have a vested interest in pushing a narrative about Switch 2 to encourage users to buy replacement sticks
@Supadav03 There are tons of games in many genres being developed and released every year. I don't know why gamers reserve particular ire for farming sims over metroidvanias, soulslikes, visuals novels etc.
Well duh. Of course they are. The GKC platform allows more publishers to secure a retail presence for their development partners due to decreased cartridge costs
Brilliant decision by Nintendo to scupper clout chasers who think they can ride the cheap fame gravy train by playing their Switch 2 before launch. Enjoy your Nintendo Brick 2!
Survival Kids is a real hidden gem, and arguably among the top ten GBC games.
Stranded, you must forage to satisfy your hunger, thirst , fatigue, and health meters, combine items to create tools, and find a way to escape a deserted island.
Survival Kids, and Survival Kids 2 were the progenitors to the Lost in Blue series on Nintendo DS and Wii
I'm glad the Survival Kids Switch 2 reboot exists but it's a shame they've turned it into a colourful, cosy, casual fast-paced co-op game. It's lacking the bleakness of Survival Kids / Lost in Blue.
Is it really Survival Kids if you don't wake up every morning with the thought "if I don't find something today, I'm going to die"
@Coalescence Bingo. As more companies move out of the full data on card physical game space, others will move in and try to fill it with limited physical releases, sometimes with needless and pricey extras attached to nickel and dime collectors
Really starting to stretch the definition of 'Nintendo Life' here, with these 'post any and all news that gets clicks, and throw in a tangential connection to Switch or Nintendo to make it seem like it's relevant'
One thing I'm curious about is why there are coins strewn about in Free Roam? What's the purpose of collecting them if you aren't in a race? Can you buy things with them?
Secondly, the narrator in the Direct said there were Peach Medallions and ? Panels to find, "and more". Speaking of "more", when playing Free Roam at the recent Switch 2 Experience London hands-on event, I found a shimmering, travelling star out on the water. Sadly the race started before could I catch up to it and discover what it did.
@JohnnyMind I don't think anyone can declare with any certainty just yet that Drag X Drive is 'only' playable in Mouse Mode. I fully expect it to be akin to ARMS where it was designed around Joy-Con motion controls, but is playable in handheld and on TV/Tabletop with a traditional controller.
"No-one is talking about the Switch 2's best feature" because other than a small number of journos, and those who attended the recent Paris and New York hands-on events, none of us have been able to hold the Joy-Con 2 controllers yet
I applaud the representation of disability sports but the lack of Nintendo's trademark wackiness, and bland aesthetics that are dull to the point where it appears hard to distinguish who is on your team and who isn't. There are still so many unanswered questions about this title. Are there other control schemes? Can you play it in handheld mode at all? What are the full breadth of modes and features available? Price? Longevity? and so on
AAA pricing has been stagnant for decades compared to the rise in inflation and ballooning costs for game development. That said, wages and disposable income have been stagnant too. Eventually there comes a point where hardware / software price jumps are going to so far outpace disposable incomes that it'll start to hurt sales.
You're definitely right about having enough of the rumours, and yet games news media continues to spotlight each and every one of them. There's one day to go, give it a rest guys.
People forget how popular Tomodachi Life on 3DS was.
It sold 400k in its debut week in Japan, and almost 7M worldwide.
It out-sold Luigi's Mansion 2, Ocarina of Time 3D, Link Between Worlds, Nintendogs + Cats, Monster Hunter Gen, and lots of other notable titles on the platform.
