I probably wont get it since i played the original on PC last year and currently playing the 2nd game right now. Still, i cant wait to see how this one turns out.
As an ultramarathon runner, i can say from experience that sometimes we just create a theme to build around to further enjoy our obsession. This strikes me as one of those types of things. Love it!
On the Switch, im taking advantage of the 14 day free NSO trial to show our 5 year old the games that I grew up with. Also hoping to wrap on Lets Go Pikachu with her too. 7 badges down one to go!
Elsewhere, ill probably finish up my Hogwarts Legacy playthrough this weekend on the ROG Ally X, and I'm not sure what ill dive into next.
I have a Switch OLED and ROG Ally X, which is LCD. Perhaps its my near mid 40s eyes, but i find both look mighty fine from a visual perspective. LCD on the Switch 2 will not sway me from purchase, especially if it keeps the cost to consumers lower.
I think Nintendo is missing a big opportunity with mobile from an NSO perspective. I wonder how hard it would be to have their NES, SNES, GBA, etc playable on mobile with an NSO subscription...
I feel like the best we can hope for is that at the end of each third party trailer, theres a Switch 2 logo for around half the games coming soon. 😋
@8bit-Man - As did I, but she has zero interest in even trying games that look like that. She likes video games, but I'm looking to wait a little longer before the 'git gud' days of gaming for her. 🤣
Games like Little Kitty, Big City and Lil Gator game have been great for her to get used to 3d world games too.
My daughter just turned 5 last month, but we suffered a similar experience in Wonder prior to that. She also wanted to play as 'one of the girls' which made it a little more difficult.
She ultimately lost interest in Wonder, but Lets Go Pikachu has been her jam as a support character. She gets to do all the fun stuff, while i help the story move along. Its also allowed her to get more comfortable with a controller, which could have us go back to Wonder after we beat the game.
She's also played Mario Kart with a wheel accessory, and accessibility is tops for that.
The lack of being able to trade for more rare cards is disappointing, especially since I have a majority of the accepted rarity levels. Might only be missing 10-12 total i believe across all cards, but there are a lot of two star and up cards im missing.
At least theres new cards coming, my 5 year old is going to be super excited about that!
I definitely think it hurt a little bit, particularly the potential for the joy con to be used as a mouse. At this point, if leakers can get that much out of a company like Nintendo, this is likely the norm now.
Ironically, we still dont know much at all. I think with all of those control schemes, Nintendo is going to have something up their sleeve that can still be surprising.
With this functionality, i can see a lot of classic PC games making their way over to the Switch. Quite honestly, its pretty impressive that all these play styles can be on a single console out of the box.
Seems like a summer/fall release is likely then if the Direct is in April. I'm excited to see what Nintendo is cooking up on the software side of things!
Seems like a stretch, but ill believe it when i see it. I would certainly welcome it though. If the Switch 2 rumored specs are in line with the Xbox Series S, that could be a game changer for third parties on Nintendo. Of course, proper optimization would be key.
As someone whose been using the ROG Ally X over the last few months... a beefier Switch model would be welcomed. Its all about comfort though. If its uncomfortable for long play sessions handheld (how i basically play everything nowadays), what was the point of making it bigger? Perhaps its internals required it to be bigger? Nintendo... please respond! 😋
I really hope Nintendo does the actual reveal very soon. I have a feeling it wont be made until after their next financial report though which is likely to be early February.
Genki, in a way, is destroying the mystique of the next system reveal by Nintendo. While much of the info isn't necessarily a surprise, if some of the feature speculation ends up not being true, it could lead to disappointment by those who follow gaming news.
I'm so torn on how I feel about this. Its disappointing to see its virtually the same look as the original, but what were we expecting with next Switch look?
On the other hand, if Nintendo is remaining quiet in these leaks, that makes me believe they have a feature set and/or game list that is sure to knock our socks off.
I got Lets Go Pikachu for our 5 year old, so yes, we are definitely using the straps. She gets way too excited when throwing Pokeballs and has already let go of the joy con multiple times. 😂
Finished both GTA III Definitive Edition and Super Crazy Rhythm Castle (both on the ROG Ally X, but both are available on the Switch) leading in to the weekend. Now im playing through Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order myself (ROG), and Lets Go Pikachu with my daughter.
I actually really enjoyed the show. There was a nice variety of genres shown along with stuff that is likely years away. With this being a transition year for Nintendo, I'm not surprised by their lack of awards.
If I had to offer criticism, I felt it was entirely too long. I also can't help but be disappointed, although expected, that Silksong wasn't shown yet again. Hopefully it's part of what Nintendo is cooking up for next year (launch title?).
This will make my 4 year old happy and it comes out two days after her birthday! She's been bummed lately about picking duplicates since we're only missing a few cards at this point.
Too little too late for me, unfortunately. The first game purchase for my ROG Ally X was the Arkham Trilogy for $7.79, and I've already beaten Asylum.
I really wanted to get this on the Switch when it came out last year, but having a nearly unplayable game as part of the package was a deal breaker for me. Good that they broke it up though!
I've been on almost exclusively on the ROG Ally X, playing through games I've picked up for free PC Games between Amazon Gaming and Epic Games over the last few weeks.
Some of those games were also available on Switch, including The Gap and The Spirit and the Mouse, both of which were entertaining in their own ways.
I'm also playing the original Witcher game on the ROG Ally X, and while a keyboard and mouse is preferred, I have it mapped to the gamepad to make it somewhat playable. Despite it's age (2008 release), I am finding enjoyment out of it, just from a historical perspective. Fun times!
They're going to need a very strong holiday season, even with lowering their forecast. While Echoes of Wisdom, Mario & Luigi + a new Mario Party are solid releases, will that be enough to move enough hardware to meet the lowered expectation?
I look forward to the next quarters financial data to see if they can pull it off.
I listened to one of the latest NVC recently where Logan (the author of the IGN review) alluded that he was disappointed in the game, so I'm not entirely surprised by his final score. He does praise the battles though, which both his and the NL review state.
If the score is so concerning from another site, maybe read the entire review to determine if his gripes will impact your enjoyment of the game or not. For me personally, it won't.
Since getting a ROG Ally X last month, my Switch play time has really plummeted. With the exception of Echoes of Wisdom, most of the 1st party titles I own I've completed, so that's opened up exploring the new handheld library that I've amassed. Those weekly free games from Epic and Amazon have kept me interested so far.
Pretty much all the highlighted games I'm interested in, but realistically, ill probably only be able to get one. At the moment, it's a coin flip between Mario & Luigi and Dragon Quest, and reviews may influence the actual decision.
What a great week for surprise announcements. While I am currently not an NSO subscriber, this definitely interests me. I'll be even more interested in this if they can get Xenoblade tracks on there!
Wow, what a complete surprise. I would have expected this as part of a Direct! I'll take it though, as I played all 3 other Xenoblade games on the Switch and sunk 100 hrs into each of them. Bring it on!
Im still firmly in the camp of, 'It'll be announced and shown early next year'. It just feels so counterproductive to me to announce new hardware during the holiday season... that won't be available for this holiday season.
But hey, predicting what Nintendo does is never easy, so I'm just here for the ride. Let's see how things play out!
I voted 9 out of 10. I got it as a potential game to play with my 4 year old daughter. She calls it 'puzzle adventure', and she doesn't want me to play unless she can watch/play alongside me. We got through the first dungeon so far. 🙂
I like the idea. A scroll wheel sounds like a better way to more quickly move through menu items, such as your Echoes in EoW.
I don't think this will end up being true though. I hope NL is keeping a list of all their Switch 2 rumor articles so when its finally announced, we can see how many of them panned out.
I just got a ROG Ally X last week, so I'm still getting familiar with it while playing Starfield. I'll probably pick up Echoes of Wisdom this weekend too since that's more appropriate for our daughter.
This sounds very plausible to me. Wasn't their forecast 13.5 million units for this fiscal year? First quarter was only 2.1 million. If they are feeling that confident, I would imagine a price drop for either console or a 'Nintendo Selects' library, or a late hardware addition to the Switch line-up. At this point, we've seen nor heard nothing regarding this.
I've seen the bundles they are offering for current models and the games that they have announced for this year and beyond, but nothing stands out to me as 'this will carry Nintendo to their goal'. Nintendo's announcement is looming, and I can't wait to see how they surprise us.
To be completely honest, i didn't notice that Links Awakening on Switch had frame rate issues to begin with, so I can't imagine this will impact my enjoyment in the slightest.
In all fairness though, being in my 40s and living through the evolution of video games from the Atari to now, I've seen worse. So long as the core gameplay is fun, interesting and engaging, frame rates aren't something that bother me.
Didn't read the review, only the score. I wanted to get this on Day 1, but it might now have to wait a few weeks. Looks like it'll be well worth the wait though!
Didn't the Nintendo president refer to the hardware as 'Switch next model'? I feel like the next iteration will be nothing more than a beefier Switch, much like a 'Pro' model with extra bells and whistles and fully backwards compatible. This way, people still have the less powerful and affordable Switch options, all while launching shiny new hardware.
Because of this, it wouldn't surprise me if the leak is legitimate. I'm certainly looking forward to see if it's true or not!

Definitely keeping the Switch OLED. It could end up becoming my daughter's once she shows she is responsible enough to have one.

Re: Nintendo Will Hold A Switch 2 Direct Presentation In April
Makes me wonder if there will still be a Switch direct in February. Gotta fill in that 1st half schedule!
Re: Nintendo Will Hold A Switch 2 Direct Presentation In April
@KBuckley27 - I hope so. I was sort of out of the loop on gaming during the Switch release and only got back into gaming around 2023ish.
Not to date myself, but I grew up around the era that systems game out closer to the holiday season, so thats where my brain went. 😋

Re: Nintendo and Lego Are Collaborating On A New Game Boy Set
Nintendo announcing everything but Switch 2 at this point. Good thing Genki has us covered on that front.
Jokes aside, I am interesting in what it ends up looking like, but probably not enough to buy and build it.
