I started a playthrough of Rayman Legends on the Switch last night, so that'll at least last this weekend. On xbox, I beat A Little to the Left, and now I'm seeing if I can 100% the achievements. Probably won't though, as there are daily challenges and they want you do go quite a bit for some of them.
It's such a bummer that 1 of the 3 games is in the state that it's in. I mean, I might still get it at a heavily discounted rate, because the portability of the other 2 which seem to have far less problems
I have to say, while I only have mild to moderate interest in a few of the games shown, this was quite a varied selection! Perhaps we'll be drip fed Rare Replay through NSO? 😋
Life has been busy. So I'll probably only get a few dives in on Dave the Diver and that's it. I'll probably dabble a little bit with Xbox Game Pass on my new mobile setup too.
I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3 last week (100+ hours!) and now I’m playing Dave the Diver. This ‘long game then short game’ pattern really helps avoid gaming burnout. 🙂
I’m about to cross the 100 hour mark on Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and the end may be close. I’ve thoroughly enjoying it, and I don’t want it to end, but when it does, the next game will be less time demanding. Dave the Diver is still in my purchased backlog, so that might be a good candidate.
I had the system along with Mario Tennis, Wario, Galactic Pinball, Red Alarm and Vertical Force. At the time it was pretty cool, but I doubt they hold up. Bought the system in a Toys R Us bargain bin for $30 when I was younger. Sold it awhile back, and since I kept everything… boxes, instructions, even the flyers to subscribe to Nintendo Power, I got a lot more $ than what I paid. The jury is still out if it was worth all the eye strain and headaches. 😂
The game definitely gives off Ninty vibes. If it’s a current gen Switch release, I’ll need to hear how it plays performance wise. In my opinion, it would make a better launch title for the Switch 2.
@Ryu_Niiyama - I agree. I doubt a lot of physical copies were shipped given its niche status. My guess is a bulk of its sales are digital and not reflected here. It’s placement here isn’t fully representative of its success or failure.
As a numbers guy, I’d love to know sold % of shipped. Doubt we would ever get that though.
I’ve been moving towards digital more and more, but usually if I buy a physical game, beat it, and it collects dust for a certain period of time, I’ll offload it eventually. I’ll typically put it on eBay where I often make my money back or more. MUCH more than trade-ins at GameStop.
I'm about 20 hours in to Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and it'll probably be the only game I play all weekend on the Switch. So good!
As for the Xbox Series X, I'm still trying to find something to sink my hooks into. I started a playthrough of the first Hellblade in anticipation of the sequel. I'm not sure I'll see it through, and if that's the case, Planet of Lana seems like my next choice.
The only one out of the lot that appeals to me is Prince of Persia, but I want to see how it reviews first. My backlog will keep me busy until then (and beyond, lol).
Metroid Prime 2&3 shadow drop when firm Metroid Prime 4 release date is revealed, similar to Pikmin 4. Best case scenario would be 2&3 release in 2024, but 4 likely misses this year.
We’ll get both Wind Waker / Twilight Princess in 2024. There was no way we were getting those in the same year as TotK. Possible twist, NSO adds GameCube games with Switch 2 reveal, where only one will be released in 2024.
I think we’ll get another N64 Rare game on NSO, probably Banjo Tooie.
Switch 2 reveal, backwards compatability with current eShop games. I have this funny feeling that physical Switch games won’t be compatible with new hardware. That seems like a very Nintendo thing to do. 😋
I’m still on the mend from a fairly significant bout of Covid, but on the plus side, the down time has allowed more game time. Finished Arcade Paradise on the Switch a few days ago, and now I’m playing Islets. It’s a lovely little metroidvania that didn’t immediately hook me right away, but I stuck with it and now I’m thoroughly enjoying. I’ll probably finish it off this weekend, and I think I’ll be ready for a much longer experience. Xenoblade 3 is my top choice. 🙂
What a great year to be a Switch owner. I could be a little biased because I was late to Switch adoption, therefore missing the first few years, but wow, what a year. TotK, Metroid Prime Remastered & Dave the Diver were my favs personally.
Woo-hoo! I grew up with Bowling and Circus Atari, so I can’t wait to replay those. I love the free content.
I kind of hope that maybe we see some paid DLC to include Activision since they had so many prominent Atari console games. Ain’t no way that would be free, haha.
Good chance I'll finish up the first chapter of Dragon Quest Builders on the Switch, and continue my playthrough of Diablo IV on the Series X. Will probably also squeeze some more time into Atari 50 too.
Perhaps I’m in the minority, but this looks like it plays quite well for the switch. I never got around to any of the Batman games when they were released, so this feels like a treat. I’ve already completed Witcher & Assassin Creed in portable mode, and this seems to be right on par with them.
I’ll still wait for the NL review, but at first glance, this feels like a solid 7 or 8 in a genre of game I enjoy.
I think this looks rather good, and I’ll probably get this when it goes on sale. My other alternative is to not play at all since my nextgen play time on a tv is usually in bite sized amounts.
Regardless of what everyone thinks of Famitsu scores, this at least gives me hope that the game might be enjoyable. I can tolerable performance issues to some degree if the core gameplay is engaging and fun. Plus I love the DQ world. I’ll be curious how other places review it.
Didn’t most Midway games get removed from Antstream Arcade recently? I would love either an Activision or Midway Atari/classic compilation made like Atari 50.
Oh man… I bought way more than I should have. Between getting a Xbox Series X and a multitude of Switch games, I’m good on games for a solid year, lol. Started Atari 50 this morning, which I’m really digging. Hope to see more games like this released next year.
Well that’s a bummer… I had $50 Amazon credit and you can no longer use it on eShop cards. Must have happened between now and September since that’s the last time I got one.
Nice to see the DQ Builder games on sale. I’ll probably nab those since I really enjoyed the demos. There may be a few others too. Red Dead Redemption and Portal are at the top of the list
I keep finding myself spending time in the Castlevania Advance collection, so it’ll be that and more Tales of Vesperia this weekend. I’m getting a little frustrated during boss battles in Tales. The lack of direction creates lots of defeats and replaying sections that wears on me, but I admit it could also just be that I’m not very good at it.
Next weekend should be real interesting though. I’ve already ordered Atari 50 for the Switch and an Xbox series X w/ Diablo IV & Starfield, and with Nintendo digital sales in the US I believe starting Monday, I’ll be swimming in a pile of newness. 😋
I think we all know we want it, but I also think we all know deep down that it won’t appear on this Direct. Part of me thinks it’s a brilliant idea to shadow drop it around Xmas, so all those eShop card gifts could go towards it.
I bought Tales of Vesperia last Xmas on deep sale, and am only just getting around to it now. Spending is on hold until I see what Black Friday brings. Wanna get the most for the least amount of $. 😋
If the switch 2 is backwards compatible, they would need a very compelling launch day and subsequent releases to convert me. I’m very happy with my switch with a backlog that adds up to 1 year worth of gaming.
With that said, I’m certainly not against its release. 😋
Played the demo of Dave the Diver for a few minutes and immediately wishlisted it. Probably will get it before the end of the year. Seems like something I could spend quite a bit of time in!
This was such an awesome game when I got it back when it released on the SNES. I’ve gone back and beaten it a few times, so it seems like an inevitability that I’ll pick this up at some point. The switch re-invigorated my love for RPGs, so I still have quite a few to get through before going back to this. Great to hear it retains the charm from the original.
@Kiyata - That’s the compilation i was referencing, only I owned the PS2 version at the time. I put in some solid time playing those games… particularly mega mania, pitfall, river raid, and. spider fighter. That and Midway classics.
Atari 50 is literally the next title I plan to pick up. Bite sized gaming, especially from the classics I grew up with (yup, I'm old ), will always be hard to pass by.
In regards to the acquisition, I'm glad they still have the freedom to go outside the Atari library, and I can't wait to see what they're able to put together in the coming years.
I'd love a re-release of Activision Anthology with the Digital Eclipse touch.
I haven’t decided what to start next… feeling a little bit of gaming burnout and hesitant to start a new 50+ hour game. Finished Sea of Stars, Carrion and Assassins Creed Rogue on Switch recently. I’ve been messing around in the Castlevania Advance Collection (even though I’ve beaten them all previously) while I figured out what I’ll dip into next.
The review was exactly what I was hoping for… a solid port for a portable experience. I rarely play online multiplayer, so the loss of that functionality isn’t a deal breaker for me personally. To the wishlist it goes!
I was dying for news on NSO release schedule, Silksong, Metroid Prime 2/3, or Wind Waker / Twilight Princess, so that was a bit of a bummer. Never played TTYD, or a Paper Mario game for that matter, so looking forward to that. That and Mario RPG.
Still roaming Lego Star Wars casually finding collectibles and slowly progressing through the game. I have a huge backlog that I’m dying to get into, specifically Sea of Stars and Chained Echoes. Still need to get back to TotK to at least get through the main quest too.

The premise is very interesting here, and given my love for metroidvania style games, I can't wait to hear more about this.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Want To See Colourful Cartridges Return For 'Switch 2'?
In my opinion, colored carts don’t make much sense now that they’re so small. They were much more impactful on the NES, SNES, N64 & GB.
