Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console

kalosn

Oh wow... do you guys still think a Digital-only edition is unnecessary at this point?

Because, to be very frank, I always had that inner feeling that this would be its most realistic price point if it truly had the horsepower to remain time-proof for the next years, that's why I thought Nintendo would also announce cheaper alternatives, like a digital-only edition and maybe even one without a dock.
In fact, maybe that's why it costs more than expected. The Steam Deck alone without a dock cost $399. It does include a carrying-case though, but out of a sudden, Nintendo sudenly made the Steam Deck a more affordable option for new gen handheld gaming. Oops...
The PC Handhelds cost a lot not only because of their power, but also for the single fact they come with Windows installed, so that's an advantage at least.

Re: Donkey Kong: Bananza, A New 3D DK Adventure, Is Confirmed For Switch 2

kalosn

Many things in this trailer remind me of Super Mario Odyssey. It's very likely it's the same development team. I don't have issue with the redesign, what I know is, DK can surely pack more punch than Mario, literally here.
The visuals look very stylized, like if it was originally a Switch 1 game but then turned into a Switch 2 exclusive, making the most of the new hardware features.

Re: Has The Xbox Switch 2 Rival Just Revealed Its True Form?

kalosn

So Microsoft says they'll think the Switch 2 will be a total success, yet they announce something that is clearly going into the cutting-edge on the market... Are they implying something about the Switch 2's capabilities?
These Handheld PC comparisons have always seemed very unfairly positioned for me, when you also take into account things that the main customer will need to be served with, like battery life and price. It's almost the same thing as comparing a dedicated console with a PC, except in handheld form.

One of the main objectives of a console is to make cutting-edge gaming accessible to a mainstream audience, and that should definitely be one of Switch 2's aims in regards to this current generation. It surely needs to be powerful enough to make it future-proof for quite a lot of years, but not overly focus on that to the point of forgetting about the difference, the uniqueness that Nintendo is known about. Not necessarily Gimmicks though, hopefully....

The Nintendo Difference, of course!

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

kalosn

If there's one thing I would really like for this Direct is for it to return to the format of E3 2019, where trailer after trailer, a guide (either Koizumi, Takahashi and even Doug Bowser) would offer some comments that hint what the next game will be about. I know, that was the last time we saw that format... but seriously, it's the best big-scale one I can think about. That's all I can say.

In fact, Doug Bowser appearing more frequently on Directs is something I can't believe is so practically unheard of, he has been the new Reggie ever since 6 years ago already right? Time to show what that means...

Re: The Duration Of Tomorrow's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Has Been Confirmed

kalosn

So basically 1 hour (and maybe a bit longer...). Longest Nintendo Direct to date!

Nintendo's Switch presentation back in 2017 was also a bit longer than 1 hour. However...
Recently I've been rewinding to past E3 and hardware reveal presentations and I realized Nintendo's conferences were usually the shortest compared to the others, yet they also tended to be most entertaining and less boring of them, as they didn't spend 30 minutes talking about hardware, statistics and the like.. and that was in front of a live audience, with continuous walking and improvisation.

With this Direct, they're definitely memorizing or reading scripts while talking 'directly' to the audience on very precise timings, fillers are practically non-existant, what could be possibly better and most intuitive than that?
Oh yeah, PS5's first dedicated presentation ("Future of Gaming") was full of game diversity and big announcements in just 14 minutes more than the approximate lenght of this upcoming presentation. Digital Events have the advantage of being shorter and to the point compared to a live audience speaking.

Naturally, hardware features and details will ought to be the main priority and game reveals, but with Nintendo revealing Switch 2 news every day and the possibility of a June direct, don't expect every game currently in development to be revealed, nor any very long demonstration (that's the Treehouse's job!). I would love to see some developers talking about the console however, and remember, montages exist in case of having a lot of games. Catalog quality, variety, a clear message, determination and future-proofing are the keys to a successful console reveal.

Re: Nintendo Shares New Image Of Switch 2 Ahead Of The Big Day

kalosn

Wow, is it me or is the console bigger than the last time we saw it? Anyway, it just seems bigger now that we're looking at it from a distance.
Also, there have been some rumours about development kits not being avaliable for many developers yet, which suggest they must be more recent than it seemed. They also strangely don't seem to be compatible with 4K...
Right now, my only concern with the console is how powerful enough it's going to be to make it future proof at least. Consistenly updating the specs after years of internal delays make a lot of sense, and I don't really know if these "reports" are actually true. Worse than that, these rumors always seem to affect anybody's expectations going forward, it's better to forget about them and instead remember the basics of what to expect from a next-gen console

Re: Talking Point: Which Switch Game Needs A 'Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' The Most?

kalosn

Many games would benefit from a 60fps update, a higher resolutions (4K even) and visual upgrades, but there's also the possiblity of them having new additions to the gameplay to guarantee a potential price point, like I don't know, increasing the limit of objects fusing on Tears of the Kingdom....
Basically small Deluxe-like improvements without asking for a $60 price point again. Personally I would love to see the most demanding Switch exclusive games gaining these improvements, especially Pokémon SV and Bayonetta 3, but the Xenoblade games could also benefit from them, especially in regards to resolution.

Oh boy, Metroid Prime 4 was shown recently on the direct but who knows if (and how) it could appear on the Switch 2 Direct, there's so much to guess!

Re: "The Answer Was Always No" - Ex-Nintendo Employee On Zelda Movie Pitches

kalosn

Aonuma once said in 2013 that a Zelda movie would have to "change what a movie is" and “make it more interactive, like you’re able to take your 3DS into the theater and that leads you into participating in it somehow.” It cant just be a random video game adaptation, which explains why they rejected so many proposals and even pitches, like this one:

Re: Legend Of Zelda Movie Release Date Revealed, Coming March 2027

kalosn

So in two years, it's still quite way off then, and I'm sure the Zelda team is working on something new too, but that's a different topic, even if I'm still pondering how cinematic the next Zelda game should be.
I'm still intrigued and want to see more about this film with so much potential, and their best chance to turn TLoZ into a multimedia powerhouse like Mario and Pokémon.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct For March 2025?

kalosn

It wasn't bad, but it got four minus points for me because of the lack of two Metroid and two Zelda remasters...
Besides that, it's been a solid last hurrah for the Switch 1. Who knows if they could be making more unannounced games for the Switch 1. They're starting to treat it like the 3DS on the early Switch years, mainly focusing on remasters and smaller-scale games.

Normally this is PlayStation territory, but compared to any pre-new console momentum from Nintendo in the past, it's amazing how the previous home console is still getting some quite great games years after the successor's debut, maybe not seen since the SNES to Nintendo 64 transition.

Re: Rhythm Heaven Groove Announced For Switch, Launching 2026

kalosn

Many, no, a lot of people wanted Rhythm Heaven back on Switch, so this is very good news for them!
What is strange is the fact it's coming out that late. I doubt a game like this would take so much development time, it's like they're planning to fill out the Switch 1's next years of lifetime. So what could coming for the last-gen on the next months from Nintendo, besides Pokémon and Metroid?

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gets A New Trailer, But No Release Date

kalosn

"Our prediction..? We'll get one next week when it's..."
Shhhhhh..... You hear that? That is the sound of silence, you know, the sound Nintendo loves to hear as that allows them to surprise everyone without a second thought.
Or maybe the game just isn't ready yet. But that would make its last year's June trailer quite long way off, and considering how much they waited to show this game... yeah, something tells me the release date is closer than what it seems.
Oh and psychic abilities! Nice gameplay innovation here

Re: Switch 2 Filings Show Support For Wi-Fi 6

kalosn

Wi-Fi 6? I don't know if that will ensure longevity. Um... how does... eh... this.. ummm *gulp compare to other... recent devices?
At least it will be much better than the Switch 1's online connectivity, that's for sure.

Re: Nintendo Direct Confirmed For Tomorrow, 27th March 2025

kalosn

The final Nintendo Direct focusing only on the Nintendo Switch system. The Switch's last hurrah... Will we see Furukawa holding bananas before the big next presentation?
But seriously, this is their last chance to announce certain remasters... And of course, the Switch's swansong, I mean, Silksong!

Re: After Copying Smash's Homework, MultiVersus Publisher Was Apparently Turning To Mario Kart Next

kalosn

Basically, everyone began to mimic the Mario Kart formula ever since the N64 days, but it once reached a peak during GameCube generation, only to slow down for the Wii era for soMe reason. Now, thanks to the mammoth success of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Switch era has seen an incredible resurgence of "Mascot Racers", even if many still come well below their inspiration, at least we've seen good efforts like CTR Nitro Fueled and Team Sonic Racing (relatively). The idea of a Mario Kart game with WB characters wouldn't be surprising in the slightest, but it sounded less attractive compared to MultiVersus.

Seriously, the crossover game deserved better, it truly deserved better. The devs and company gave in their best effort to make justice and fun tributes to all the IPs it housed. It's very unfair they didn't even gave it a chance to come to the console where its inspiration calls home, maybe that way they could've got their audience. It's a free-to-play Smash after all, what else is there like that on the market?
Can't they make an offline paid version at least that comes to retail? It could at least work as a budget release.

Re: Rumour: A Switch 1 Direct Presentation May Take Place This Week

kalosn

If it's an Indie World... well, it's still a bit dubious, I think Nintendo is planning such event shortly after the Switch 2 presentation. Besides, these are not shadow-dropped unlike Direct Minis, so it's dubious.

Now, a Direct presentation before another big one. If this reminds me of something, it's like when Nintendo held a Direct just before its E3 2012 Wii U showcase, though that was related to the console too... Nintendo could use this Direct to instead focus on the Switch 1 and announce/spotlight games that won't be on the Switch 2 Direct, unless they put a big announcement there too...

Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online

kalosn

I remember how tiring it was to once again buy individually most of Nintendo's classic catalog of games during the Wii U and 3DS era at some price. Between that and this sudden limitation of games being removed from the service... What could be reasonable for players? Packs of classic games at a cheap price?
What I currently hope for the service is for Nintendo to introduce a Game Pass-like subscription model for Switch games, but definitely not necessarily for the biggest and/or first-party games.

Re: Was That Pokémon Legends: Z-A Footage Running On Switch 2? Digital Foundry Weighs In

kalosn

Metroid Prime 4 is still much more convincingly a Switch 2-looking game, even if it is actually running on a Switch 1.
Another thing to note is how they have seemingly removed the Physically-Based rendering element for this game compared to Scarlet and Violet, which explains why Pokémon lack textures and overall, the surroundings look less detailed or textured, that should also ease performance issues, besides the fact it's an open-city game.

But really, if this was running on Switch 2 it should look like a Insomniac game...

Re: Monolith Soft Adds Final Fantasy Cutscene Artist To Its Ranks, So What's It Cooking For Switch 2?

kalosn

I know they are indeed making a new game, but it looks a bit far off the Switch 2's first year and months. I would prefer if the save the biggest (and relatively near-term) first-party news for a prospective June Direct. They can focus on the basics in the upcoming direct, and maybe just tease or announce some blockbusters coming for its first year.
Also, speaking of Visions of Mana and Switch 2... you know what I mean.

Re: Pokémon Champions Reveals Multiplayer Battle Mode Options

kalosn

Online components? It seems this game may include some offline content, possibly hinting at a single-player Stadium-like mode.
But what if you just want to play online with your Pokémon from Home? I hope they at least consider that simple aspect both in mobile and console.

Re: Monster Hunter: Wilds Tech Analysis Has Us Concerned About A Switch 2 Port

kalosn

If the numbers are closer to a PS4 Pro, then I guess that also includes the Xbox Series S. Both also have very similar performance metrics, but the XSS has CPU and GPU tech a generation ahead, which the Switch 2 should also include (with DLSS too of course).
But yeah, in general this game is pretty demanding currently. Even the Steam Deck had issues, to the point only an ROG Ally could run it acceptably the least.
I expect further optimization though patches that could make a Switch 2 port more feasible. At this point, I don't care for these (or possibly more) cutbacks if we're talking about PS5-caliber games, they will still look better than a compromised Switch 1 port.
But it doesn't look to likely it'll come to Switch 2 on its first year at least, maybe Capcom would first port MHW to the Switch before working on a handheld port of Wilds.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Introduces Thrilling Series First "Real Time" Battles

kalosn

Exp. Share is back once again... fortunately Legends Arceus made good use of it by making all opposing Pokémon overpowered

With Pokémon Champions possibly becoming the new norm for competitive play, the mainline games could bring in more innovations for the battle system. Not this exactly though, this feels like an evolution to the PLA battle style, which simplified the battle system and discarded abilities and held items. This time though, Mega Evolution will boost your Pokemon to potentially OP levels without disrupting the competitive balance (maybe), now this becomes interesting...

I don't think the traditional RPG system will go anywhere and there will still be place for the traditional system on the mainline games, but there's definitely more potential for diversity.

Re: Opinion: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Looks Cool, But It's Lacking Arceus' Unique Style

kalosn

@Gryffin Possibly, or at least in some sense. There's kind of a difference in how characters move, and the speed of their movements compared to PLA. This game in comparison seems to be using a derivative of the Scarlet and Violet engine. I think both have the same basis, but the PLA team modified it slightly to give the player more interactivity with its surroundings.
Maybe I haven't seen enough gameplay or hands-on with it, maybe it will feel closer to PLA since most of its mechanics will return, but at this point, I wonder when the animations will become more immersive..
