Switch 2 - The Future is Here

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

kalosn

Are you all serious?
I get those points, but never forget the big picture. We're talking about things like upgrading graphical settings (especially for third-party ports) and making the entirety of your previous-gen efforts worth the generational jump vs. avoiding (potential) firmware vulnerability?
Look, maybe that is important too, but what's on the surface is what matters the most for both the consumer and the fan.

The other consoles had no issue delivering generational leap in performance yet still preserving the ability to buy last-gen games on their digital shops and also supporting physical media, gradually at least.
That alone means backwards compatiblity for the Switch 2 should be a must.

Re: Video: Mortal Kombat 1 Graphics Comparison Reveals Switch Performance & Resolution

kalosn

When I see the Steam Deck version, I see the closest relative for a Switch 2 version of the game. It's on low settings though, and that's also quite compromised to the point it looks like a scrapped PS4/Xbox One version.

When this comes (or is patched) for Nintendo's next-gen console, I hope it gets the optimization it deserves to get the closest it can the Xbox Series S version at least.

Re: Early Tech Analysis Investigates Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door Switch FPS & Resolution

kalosn

Knowing Nintendo, it's practically impossible something here will be downgraded for the final product. In fact, its release date points to the other way around happening with Switch's successor. 60fps should be guaranteed with more powerful hardware.

The trailer definitely has been running on the Switch we know, and it looks very impressive for the hardware, probably even more than The Origami King. When Intelligent Systems develop their visuals in-house, they are capable of amazing stuff

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?

kalosn

This direct was light on new games. Pretty much expected for this part of the console's lifecycle.
Nintendo's plans up to March 2024 are seen right here. I wonder if this means something, if they plan to reveal their next-gen console before the end of the year.
Paper Mario TTYD remake seems to be coming later next year, by that time I hope Nintendo finally has a release date for the Switch 2, and maybe Metroid Prime 4, if that game could be cross-gen in a way.

Re: GameCube Classic Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Is Heading To Switch

kalosn

When Nintendo announced Super Mario RPG, I thought those TTYD remake rumors were a misconception, I understood.
Then this happened. I can't believe this dream is becoming true, can't wait for comparisons

The visuals are being so amazingly remade in TOK's engine... ugh, I wish backwards compatiblity for the Switch 2 was guaranteed already, so this game would look even better in 4K!

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions

kalosn

Unless there is the slightest hint of Switch 2 there, I don't expect much shock announcements. In fact, context-wise this Direct would be comparable to this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpXQtFbRChg

That indeed means there is room for nice surprises here. Third-party prescence is unpredictable at this point, and there have been some surprising rumors about certain game franchises appearing there. Besides the Mario bonanza for the end of the year, I really hope we finally get to see the Zelda and Metroid Prime HD remasters happening.

As for what could happen in the world of Nintendo after this presentation, well I hope it eventually opens the door for this long-awaited moment:

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC - What Would You Have Liked To See?

kalosn

I have a secret theory up here, what if Nintendo is currently investigating what players are building all over the internet and are preparing a new DLC in the form of a Master Mode that features a new Trial of the Sword dungeon where enemies use all kinds of Zonai Creations against you?

I know they're secretly planning new content for this game, it just makes sense. Even more, what if the Switch 2 gets exclusive content for this game? Okay that sounds a bit crazier but it's still possible.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Super Mario Bros. Wonder

kalosn

After realizing there seems to be no time limit either, I came to the conclusion this is truly a big leap over all the previous 2D Mario games. This one innovates a LOT, compared how the NSMB series focused on maintaining the essence of the classic games while adding some small new features, but not reinventions. No doubt it will be a fun game.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Online Multiplayer Revealed, No Online Co-op

kalosn

There is not much incitation for rumble challenges here compared to Sonic Superstars's Battle Mode. To be honest I'm not sure what I can say of the new online features until they become avaliable, but the lack of true online co-op is baffling after 3D World on Switch. I wonder why they can't treat online co-op the same way as local.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct - All Announcements, Features, Power-Ups, Worlds

kalosn

This "Direct" felt more like an extended overview trailer you see in general Directs. In fact, I wonder if they thought it would be too large to be included in the next(?) Nintendo Direct. You know you're seeing a true game-centered Direct when you see the directors and devs themselves appear as your guide, or at least that's how it used ot be...

Anyway, this looks exciting, even if a bit less surprising than the initial announcement. The best things so far are the new additions and the implications of the challenge the game will offer. It's truly looking like a revolution for 2D Mario

Re: Take-Two CEO On Backward Compatibility: "Give Consumers What They Want"

kalosn

Of course it's essential. It's a literal no-brainer! This is a minor issue for the other consoles, so why would it be such a big deal for Nintendo?
What better idea to play a legacy Pokémon game with more polished visuals or your Animal Crossing file in the new console to celebrate its arrival? Absolute no-brainer.
In terms of future releases, you know people this will motive Nintendo to make a big jump in content for the new games in their respective franchises.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: TOTK Isn't A Shoo-In For GOTY 2023, And That's A Good Thing

kalosn

You're right, this year is being incredible for the videogame industry, but I failed to notice that until now - because surprise, Hogwarts Legacy is the ONLY multiplatform game in the list to be coming to Switch. Next-Gen is truly finally here.
Zelda has definitely tough competition, as these games have very similar levels of hype all around the userbases.
Hear this and be prepared starting now: If The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom wins Game of the Year at the Game Awards, there will be both celebration and backlash.

And to clarify, Starfield is 30fps because it's going to be very, very huge. Maybe a better definition for these kind of games is AAAA.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario

kalosn

This was bound to happen one day. But maybe not that soon I mean, Martinet's voice archives will still be used right?
I know he won't be around forever, and that it's the best time to celebrate his accomplishments, but maybe he would have loved to keep voicing Mario until time said enough...
I hope his new voice sounds the most similar to him, for all the characters he voiced.

Re: Pokémon Company's COO Addresses Issue Between Release Schedule And Game Quality

kalosn

It's no surprise Game Freak would feel very pressured since the Switch generation. Back when they developed for handhelds, it was much easier to sequelize games in so few time, not only them, but also for any other big developer in the GBA/DS generation (see, that's why it was much easier for the DS to get a new Dragon Quest game in a short time). For the 3DS, things became a little more complicated with X and Y (you can see how the quality of content got hit back there) but then they quickly adapted to it with ORAS and Sun and Moon, both very competent games. Then came HD development and... that's when they hit the wall. Nowadays, big games take so much development time, a new Pokémon game with the quality it needs would take up from 4-6 years maximum. In that case, the panorama for new Pokémon releases could change forever.

This is the best idea: Do the same thing the Zelda franchise made since long ago and divide games between "3D" and "2D". Game Freak will make the bigger games with the time they need. No pressure, no rushing, just make the AAA high-quality Pokémon game you almost reached with Scarlet and Violet. If they want they can also do experimental games like Legends Arceus.
Then let other devs like ILCA make the smaller ones, those almost 2D top-down games that would take less development time and focus on introducing a new generation or simply the remake fans like to ask for.

Re: New Detective Pikachu Returns Trailer Is Full Of Mysteries, Pokémon Helpers And Coffee

kalosn

@MooseTinsel Do you even have an idea of who are developing this game? Creatures, Inc. They represent the graphical workforce of the franchise.
They were the ones who worked on the models for the 3D console games, they were the ones who worked on the 3D models since PokéDex 3D, they even assisted Bandai Namco for the modeling in Pokkén! THEY were the ones who made Detective Pikachu on 3DS look like something beyond the handheld's capabilities. They have a long history of pushing the boundaries of the platforms they work on. I'm very sure they can make a Detective Pikachu game on Switch look like a true interactive CGI film.

So, no need bring Game Freak here..... and much less try to be like the other fools out there, who only see the superficiality in companies who truly work hard (with deadlines in need of change)

Re: Brand New Pokémon Dipplin Is The Best Thing About Scarlet & Violet's DLC

kalosn

Dipplin doesn't look much special, it's just a play on the human horse trope with two Applin. It better evolve into a two-headed candy Dragon or something to make it truly stand out.
Archaludon, on the other hand, looks like a more intimidating turn on Duraludon's concept, I like it since I generally love stronger third-stage evolutions.

Besides more region-appropiate legendaries and potential Paradox ideas, other new Pokémon I want to exist before the generation ends are the ones that would make the 9th gen PokéDex feel more complete. Where's the Iberian emperor eagle?

Re: Talking Point: Should The Pokémon Company Stick To Just One Pokémon Presents A Year?

kalosn

Look, I don't care much about anything that isn't the main games. They're the main driving force of the franchise after all. (I'd love to see a Pokken sequel announced one day though)

What I think I really wish for these presentations is for the people from Game Freak themselves to actually appear there and talk to us about what they're doing. I mean, when was the last time they directly spoke to the viewers in a video presentation? Very likely during the last Pokémon Direct ever in January 2020.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Franchise Should Illumination Tackle Next?

kalosn

Putting aside spinoffs, you know Zelda, Star Fox, Splatoon and Kid Icarus are the next likely candidates. Zelda can recieve an animated film but I'd rather have another studio work on it.
Splatoon can definitely work for Illumination. If you somehow think it can't, then why not make it an adult property at Moonlight, huh??

Star Fox is the definitive choice here. It already recieved an anime short film, but this simply seems the perfect choice for them to go next. The studio never tackled sci-fi before, this is their best chance to go for it. Not to mention Miyamoto is ALSO the big mastermind behind the characters, and I'm very sure he would also love to see a Star Fox film come to reality.

Then we have other franchises like Kirby, Animal Crossing, maybe Kid Icarus. I think those should stay in Japanese animation, no need to make Kirby talk. Pikmin would work better in stop-motion, Metroid in live-action. That's it.
