Switch 2 - The Future is Here

Re: Hands On: I Didn't Think I Could Love BOTW Or TOTK More, Then I Played Them On Switch 2

kalosn

It's truly amazing to see definitive editions of two of the best games from the last generation. There have been even more improvements than just resolution and framerate, I think indirect lighting is different here, or at least ambient occlusion. And Korok Forest just runs marvelous here.

What I'm not sure is if the resolution is still 1440p, considering the reported 4K 60fps demo from two years ago, but that ran with DLSS, and that's still a topic of question right now... Natively, it seems to reach just the perfect numbers anyway.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct April 2025 - Every Announcement, Game Reveal & Trailer

kalosn

It's surprising to see so many titles on launch day!
In fact, I'm a bit worried about the fact a lot of them are coming the same day. You might normally be super excited about such launch lineup, but one of Nintendo's mistakes with the Wii U was releasing everything on the launch day. Consequently, most third-party games on the console fared poorly, they simply outshined themselves and there was really few incitation to get them on Wii U rather than the other consoles.

This time though, there is the handheld factor and the unique aspects of the Switch 2, which should be enough for many. I'm still worried if they could be outshined easily, but hopefully not, considering the diversity is definitely excellent.

Also, I just noticed there wasn't a single Microsoft-published (including Bethesda and Activision) game announced here. Hmmmm....

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Is Coming To Nintendo Switch 2

kalosn

This is definitely a game that will showcase how the Switch 2 will handle current-gen games (likely thanks to DLSS), a good one I heard. If those screenshots are truly from Switch 2, then it's definitely a good sign.
More importantly, it's one that deserves more sales, so this release will hopefully bring more players to its story.

Re: The Switch 2's Screen Isn't OLED, But It Will Support 1080p/120fps Gameplay

kalosn

Mario looks really pixelated there, that's what happens when you turn anti-aliasing off.
Who knows how much more it'll have costed had the screen been OLED. Leave that for the future!
Will it also be compatible with VRR though? That wasn't confirmed, but it was included on a recent leak which correctly predicted these new features. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be easily understood with the audience?
And very fun way to explain 120fps with Mario's animations lol

Re: Gallery: Here's A Closer Look At The Switch 2 Console And Accessories

kalosn

I wonder if we can call it a 'Beast' now. Maybe it's still too early until multiplatform comparisons are made, but it surely packs a big price... I can't really imagine a world where 8 people use 8 Switches 2 to play wirelessly, but it's possible if there's passion for it lol

I imagine they'll eventually release a Switch 2 Lite or something, but as it stands now that size is the most appropiate considering its bulk. Would you buy an iteration without the dock?

Re: Elden Ring Coming To Switch 2

kalosn

The first third-party port for Switch 2 is a strong contender.
I know many played this game before, but this will likely be the best (and most accessible) portable version, especially if the install base rises high.
I still have to know about the launch lineup, I'll comment about it on such article.

It'll definitely run a 30fps. Considering not even the PS5 and Xbox Series X can run at a stable 60fps, and the last-gen versions had unlocked frame-rate for some reason... At least this one will be stable, hopefully.
Unlocking the frame-rate would provide a nice benchmark though.

Re: FromSoftware's 'The Duskbloods' Looks Like Bloodborne 2, Coming To Nintendo Switch 2 In 2026

kalosn

Okay, a Nintendo-exclusive FromSoftware game, I did NOT expect that. But guess what, that doesn't make it any less exciting!

A T/M-rated third-party exclusive for a Nintendo console's launch is a tradition many not know. Rogue Squadron II for the Gamecube, Red Steel for the Wii, ZombiU for the Wii U... The Nintendo Switch had Super Bomerman R, but that was for everyone, so it was an exception. This time, they surely packed a big surprise.

I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually comes to other platforms, unless they want to play the Bloodborne game here too... If it makes maximum use of Switch 2's Joy-Cons though, that'll remain the best experience

Re: Standard Micro SD Cards Won't Work On Nintendo Switch 2

kalosn

@Serpenterror That explains quite a lot for the PC Handhelds and Steam Deck... Fortunately this is a new solution that was hinted early last year, so hopefully it'll be able to strike a balance.
Switch loading times were quite low already (for Nintendo games at least), so I wonder how they'll be on the new console.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2

kalosn

Thank goodness!
Both free upgrades and paid upgrades uh? Thanks Nintendo for at least being generous with the smaller games. It's going to be fascinating which and how much games will be benefitted.
And even without paying for the upgrade pack, I'm sure these titles will still run pretty great on the new console. The benchmarks for this will be Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and Bayonetta 3.

And Korok Forest, of course...

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 'Game-Key Cards' Somehow Manage To Make Codes-In-A-Box Worse

kalosn

This seems like their simpler solution to the "download additional data" and "Switch Tax" thing. But it's still far from ideal.
Truth be told, I don't know which would be the best, most ideal solution to this, so it would be good to know, even if it's not realistic. Think about the most ideal solution even if it's not feasible, and work your best to make it feasible... ah that's another topic, but I hope they work on something like that for the future.

Physical media is seriously seemingly going into some kind of transition right now, this at least shows Nintendo is not willing to abandon it.

Re: Street Fighter 6 Is Heading To Switch 2 With New Game Modes, amiibo & More

kalosn

This reminds me a lot of Super Street Fighter IV 3D, which was also avaliable on 3DS' launch and made good use of the console features.
Here though, this is definitely more in par with the othe console versions, with the added bonuses of the Switch 2
And about amiibo, I don't know what to think, but hopefully it will be at least useful in some ways.

Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting

kalosn

Cartridges are the only reason I can think of this about, I mean who knows how this game is gonna weight. I doubt its going to be 64GB though, so is Nintendo really suggesting to Switch to digital. For some cases at least?

For Donkey Kong Bananza, it's a bit acceptable, in line with the current-gen standards (I hope that means I'll truly be huge).

For Mario Kart World. I guess they really want to make this game incredibly premium, but $80 is still incredibly ridiculous, it's not like this will be the biggest game in the world right? I really hope this is the only case of a game costing that. This seriously will bring backlash otherwise.
Nintendo is (sadly...) not known for offering the cheapest game options, somehow Bananza will only cost $10 more than a remaster of a 2010 Wii game.

Are they saying something along the lines of "if you want a cheaper Mario Kart, just buy 8 Deluxe?" In that case...

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console

kalosn

Oh wow... do you guys still think a Digital-only edition is unnecessary at this point?

Because, to be very frank, I always had that inner feeling that this would be its most realistic price point if it truly had the horsepower to remain time-proof for the next years, that's why I thought Nintendo would also announce cheaper alternatives, like a digital-only edition and maybe even one without a dock.
In fact, maybe that's why it costs more than expected. The Steam Deck alone without a dock cost $399. It does include a carrying-case though, but out of a sudden, Nintendo sudenly made the Steam Deck a more affordable option for new gen handheld gaming. Oops...
The PC Handhelds cost a lot not only because of their power, but also for the single fact they come with Windows installed, so that's an advantage at least.

Re: Donkey Kong: Bananza, A New 3D DK Adventure, Is Confirmed For Switch 2

kalosn

Many things in this trailer remind me of Super Mario Odyssey. It's very likely it's the same development team. I don't have issue with the redesign, what I know is, DK can surely pack more punch than Mario, literally here.
The visuals look very stylized, like if it was originally a Switch 1 game but then turned into a Switch 2 exclusive, making the most of the new hardware features.

Re: Has The Xbox Switch 2 Rival Just Revealed Its True Form?

kalosn

So Microsoft says they'll think the Switch 2 will be a total success, yet they announce something that is clearly going into the cutting-edge on the market... Are they implying something about the Switch 2's capabilities?
These Handheld PC comparisons have always seemed very unfairly positioned for me, when you also take into account things that the main customer will need to be served with, like battery life and price. It's almost the same thing as comparing a dedicated console with a PC, except in handheld form.

One of the main objectives of a console is to make cutting-edge gaming accessible to a mainstream audience, and that should definitely be one of Switch 2's aims in regards to this current generation. It surely needs to be powerful enough to make it future-proof for quite a lot of years, but not overly focus on that to the point of forgetting about the difference, the uniqueness that Nintendo is known about. Not necessarily Gimmicks though, hopefully....

The Nintendo Difference, of course!

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

kalosn

If there's one thing I would really like for this Direct is for it to return to the format of E3 2019, where trailer after trailer, a guide (either Koizumi, Takahashi and even Doug Bowser) would offer some comments that hint what the next game will be about. I know, that was the last time we saw that format... but seriously, it's the best big-scale one I can think about. That's all I can say.

In fact, Doug Bowser appearing more frequently on Directs is something I can't believe is so practically unheard of, he has been the new Reggie ever since 6 years ago already right? Time to show what that means...

Re: The Duration Of Tomorrow's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Has Been Confirmed

kalosn

So basically 1 hour (and maybe a bit longer...). Longest Nintendo Direct to date!

Nintendo's Switch presentation back in 2017 was also a bit longer than 1 hour. However...
Recently I've been rewinding to past E3 and hardware reveal presentations and I realized Nintendo's conferences were usually the shortest compared to the others, yet they also tended to be most entertaining and less boring of them, as they didn't spend 30 minutes talking about hardware, statistics and the like.. and that was in front of a live audience, with continuous walking and improvisation.

With this Direct, they're definitely memorizing or reading scripts while talking 'directly' to the audience on very precise timings, fillers are practically non-existant, what could be possibly better and most intuitive than that?
Oh yeah, PS5's first dedicated presentation ("Future of Gaming") was full of game diversity and big announcements in just 14 minutes more than the approximate lenght of this upcoming presentation. Digital Events have the advantage of being shorter and to the point compared to a live audience speaking.

Naturally, hardware features and details will ought to be the main priority and game reveals, but with Nintendo revealing Switch 2 news every day and the possibility of a June direct, don't expect every game currently in development to be revealed, nor any very long demonstration (that's the Treehouse's job!). I would love to see some developers talking about the console however, and remember, montages exist in case of having a lot of games. Catalog quality, variety, a clear message, determination and future-proofing are the keys to a successful console reveal.

Re: Nintendo Shares New Image Of Switch 2 Ahead Of The Big Day

kalosn

Wow, is it me or is the console bigger than the last time we saw it? Anyway, it just seems bigger now that we're looking at it from a distance.
Also, there have been some rumours about development kits not being avaliable for many developers yet, which suggest they must be more recent than it seemed. They also strangely don't seem to be compatible with 4K...
Right now, my only concern with the console is how powerful enough it's going to be to make it future proof at least. Consistenly updating the specs after years of internal delays make a lot of sense, and I don't really know if these "reports" are actually true. Worse than that, these rumors always seem to affect anybody's expectations going forward, it's better to forget about them and instead remember the basics of what to expect from a next-gen console

Re: Talking Point: Which Switch Game Needs A 'Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' The Most?

kalosn

Many games would benefit from a 60fps update, a higher resolutions (4K even) and visual upgrades, but there's also the possiblity of them having new additions to the gameplay to guarantee a potential price point, like I don't know, increasing the limit of objects fusing on Tears of the Kingdom....
Basically small Deluxe-like improvements without asking for a $60 price point again. Personally I would love to see the most demanding Switch exclusive games gaining these improvements, especially Pokémon SV and Bayonetta 3, but the Xenoblade games could also benefit from them, especially in regards to resolution.

Oh boy, Metroid Prime 4 was shown recently on the direct but who knows if (and how) it could appear on the Switch 2 Direct, there's so much to guess!

Re: "The Answer Was Always No" - Ex-Nintendo Employee On Zelda Movie Pitches

kalosn

Aonuma once said in 2013 that a Zelda movie would have to "change what a movie is" and “make it more interactive, like you’re able to take your 3DS into the theater and that leads you into participating in it somehow.” It cant just be a random video game adaptation, which explains why they rejected so many proposals and even pitches, like this one:
