Re: Nintendo's President Apologises For Not Being Able To Meet Switch 2 Demand

TheBigK

They must just be having trouble maintaining stock in Japan, where the Switch is an actual phenomenon. It's doing well over here in North America, but everyone who wants one seems to have little trouble getting one. I walked into the electronics section of my local Walmart the other day out of curiosity and saw a console sitting there behind the glass. It was just the one but it was there!

Re: Forget Switch 2 Game Key-Cards - "Full On-The-Cart Physical Releases" Are What People Want, Says Publisher Lost In Cult

TheBigK

Most of my games are digital and I think the whole key card deal is so stupid. They absolutely defeat the purpose of the convenience that digital games provide. The main appeal of physical media, to me, is to save on storage space. If the games are gonna be on my storage anyway, they may as well be able to be launched without having to swap carts out.

Re: Opinion: I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2

TheBigK

Nice to hear the experiences of the older staff, makes me feel less ancient lol the GameCube came out when I was 12 and just entering middle school, so it was the defining video game experience of my teen years. I still have it sitting around in the closet somewhere. I'm getting zero nostalgia from the Switch app, though, as I had no interest in these initial games back then. Looking forward to future releases, especially Fire Emblem, which came out before I really got serious about the series. I would love Animal Crossing to come, but I'm not holding my breath on that one just due to save states messing with the timekeeping mechanic and cloud saves and all that.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

TheBigK

I am not a fan, personally. I agree with Gavin in that it needs to be more platformer-y. I feel like the exploration and world as a whole is held back by the fact you're stuck in a vehicle. Like dude, let me get out and run and jump around a bit. Kart controls are way too clunky to explore with, in my opinion. I'm finding the challenges rather frustrating as well, and the hitboxes are annoyingly precise. I'm not super great at the game yet, though, so maybe I'll get more out of the mode if and when I improve. As it stands now, I'm bored and miss 8's tightly crafted individual courses.

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

TheBigK

I'll give it a 7. It's pretty good but I prefer the structure of Mario Kart 8. Not a fan of the travel between courses making up the bulk of the racing. Long, boring stretches followed by one lap of the actual track isn't cool. It's Mario Kart, though, so it's still fun. I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

TheBigK

I actually think it's too big. Like dude this thing is massive. The most appealing aspect for me is that it improves performance of older games. Pokémon runs super smooth and I'm not getting any choppiness in Animal Crossing anymore. In terms of actual new games, there's not much I'm interested in currently. What I'm next looking forward to is the Kirby DLC in August.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

TheBigK

I wonder if the sales will carry past the launch period. The Wii U sold fairly well at launch to the diehards but then dropped off a cliff. The Switch 2 doesn't have the marketing problem but there are many people put off by the price. And follow-ups never sell as well as the predecessors.

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

TheBigK

Fun read! I'm generally a sentimental person but I'm not hung up on the Switch 1. I consider the Switch 2 to be more of a revision than a brand new thing, so this is just an upgrade to me. Like the DSi and New 3DS. So I'll just transfer everything over and stick the old one in a drawer.

Maybe the relative lack of attachment is because there were no major life milestones during these 8 past years. Still living in the same crappy but exceedingly affordable apartment, still single with no interest in changing that, and still working at the same company. My career did start to finally develop in 2019 but I'm still mostly doing the same thing, just with a bigger paycheck.
