The 64 controller doesn't translate super well beyond itself so this is great for handheld play. It looks like it's done on a game by game basis, too, which is much appreciated. Rewind is also great for practicing glitches and speedrun tech. SM64 LBLJ here I come
Sea of Stars DLC for me. I've also been playing through the Super Mario Advance games at bedtime so today I'll probably finish up 2 and start 3 tomorrow.
Well the Switch is the only contemporary system I own so I've been playing it about the same. I did have a PS5 but I sold it to help pay for the Switch 2. I finished Xenoblade Chronicles X a few weeks ago and despite the ridiculous backlog, I've been taking it easy and playing my evergreen go-tos: Animal Crossing, Pokémon Violet, F-Zero 99, and Picross. I am excited for the Switch 2 but I consider it less of the hot new thing and more of an upgrade and extension of my gaming habits.
Craft in bulk from inventory. And please do away with the breakable tools. Or least have a durability meter visible. It's so stupid that they break, it adds nothing to the game as far as I'm concerned.
It would so lovely if you could disable Game Chat entirely and allocate those resources to game performance. But I'm sure that won't be possible, sadly.
I never had any battery issues with any of my various Switches. The OLED has spoiled me a bit, though, because of its comparatively long battery life. I don't even bother plugging it in at night if the battery is over 60%. The Switch 2 will definitely be a charge every night kind of deal, though.
Nothing yet. C'mon Nintendo, I regularly put 100+ hours into your RPGs and am closing in on 1,000 in Animal Crossing. And you're telling me I'm not at upper end of the priority list?
I already secured a preorder at what will soon be known once again as EB, of course, but I wouldn't mind grabbing a GameCube controller or microSD.
I typically only play Nintendo systems. Overall my habits won't be changing a whole lot. Maybe the months where a first party $100+ game comes out I'll take it easy on the impulse eShop sale purchases
Gaming is an expensive hobby and a luxury to begin with. I personally believe that it's absurd to expect prices to stay the same over long periods of time and it was crazy that games stayed at 60 USD for as long as they did. I only buy one game a month on average anyway, so it doesn't impact me like a huge amount. I'm getting the bundle and thus a discount on Mario Kart but it'll be interesting to see what they charge for other games down the road.
I will say, however, that if they charge the Mario Kart price for a main series Pokémon game that's a buggy, unpolished mess like Scarlet Violet, I'll be a tad irritated.
A bummer but it is what it is. I get my gaming news fix from you guys, Push Square, Nintendo World Report (whose staff are entirely volunteers), and official social media accounts. I did enjoy Giant Bomb's podcasts every now and again, though Player One and Radio Free Nintendo are more than enough.
Was there ever the expectation that it'll come to the Switch 2? I'm guessing that the game will be pushing the other consoles to their limits and so my gut tells me Switch 2 isn't in the discussion at all. Though if they need to make it run on the Series S, then maybe they could just tweak it just a bit more? I dunno, what is the Switch 2 most comparable to in power?
Yeah it's kind of a bum deal. I was mostly digital with the Switch 1 for convenience but was thinking of going physical this time around to avoid having to shell out for that expensive new SD card. This whole game key card nonsense completely defeats the purpose of that and so I might as well go digital like I had been and resign myself to regularly cleaning the fridge. Hopefully Nintendo themselves put their first and second party stuff out fully on the carts but we'll see what happens, I guess.
It does still recognize one console as the primary according to the account settings. I think it's for NSO purposes. The classic game apps aren't treated as VGCs; I opened the GBA app on my Lite and it did the usual network check. Which is a bit irritating but whatever.
Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for sure. I'm excited to see where they go with Animal Crossing and I love Alana's idea for mouse controls. I'd also like to see the first one come to the GameCube app but I highly doubt it given the how it uses time. For Fire Emblem, I'd like a no frills classic experience like the GBA games. I can see them designing mouse controls to move your units, which would feel weird but I can see it growing on me.
I gave it a whirl on the PlayStation a while back, and man, I don't have the patience to not suck. Not really my jam but I guess a lot of people are super into it.
I use it daily but I wouldn't say I've been enjoying it a bunch. Has a bit of a Play Nintendo vibe to it. Not much actual news is shared. I like the calendar but I don't like how you have to turn on notifications manually for each event. Like when they update NSO games and Nintendo Music, those events are rarely shared in advance, so I don't know about the new content until I check Twitter and here. Kind of defeats the purpose.
Xenoblade Chronicles X still. I'm into the postgame now but I need to grind out the rest of the main and affinity quests for experience because some of these fights are getting tricky. I also need to grind squad tasks and surveys for material tickets so I can buy the materials for a skell I want.
I wasn't gonna deal with online, with the constant refreshing and trying to add to cart and server overload and crashing and fighting the bots, so I did it the old fashioned way: go to retail three hours before opening and just wait. And it worked! I was physically seventh in line at GameStop, got my preorder in 10 minutes after they opened, and was on my merry way. I did need to make up a lie to get the morning off work, though.
I figured this might happen, I put my name on the list as a worst case scenario backup. I took a half day and preordered at retail. Lined up 3 hours before opening. It is done and now I can breathe easy.
They're more of a DLC pack than a simple upgrade, so it makes sense to me. It's stupid that NSO subscribers still need to pay for it, though. I've always felt that members should get all first party DLC as part of the subscription.

I'm hoping performance will be improved just by virtue of it being on more powerful hardware. Because man does it ever chug on my decked out island.

It's pretty crazy that they haven't updated or redone that 90s-ass logo yet. But brand recognition is kind of their thing.

Fantastic game but I played through it once and don't feel the need to do so again. It's really too big for repeat playthroughs

Absolutely not. I'm a solo player and I only have work friends. I'm more of a curl up with a nice bigass JRPG kind of person.
