Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

RudyC3

I'll be on leave part of next week for Switch 2 so I'm assured to be at home with nothing else to do when it arrives.

I won't get Mario Kart World till the week after though, Amazon won't be delivering mine on launch day (unless they revise that estimate) and Cyberpunk I'm getting from Japan (it's cheaper!!) so I won't be getting it for a couple more weeks after launch at least.

EDIT: So I guess my launch day plans may include ACA Ridge Racer and Fast Fusion, along with an assortment of Switch 1 games, freely updated for Switch 2 or not, to see how BackCompat behaves.

Re: Zelda Fans Are Concerned About The Free Switch 2 Updates, But Don't Worry

RudyC3

The way I see it, they won't talk of improved performance in patch notes when he original already targeted 60 but fell short.

But the simple fact that whatever game it is runs in some sort of "Switch 2 mode" should give it the extra performance it needs to hit 60 more consistently, even if they multiply the pixel count by say 4.

Numbers seem to indicate so far that the raw graphical rendering power of the system is like 6 times that of switch 1 or thereabouts (the 10x number put forward by Nvidia is likely only in cases where DLSS is used to reach the end result, so you'd effectively not be rendering exactly 10 times the graphical load, but DLSS would help you achieve a visual result akin to what you'd get with a GPU 10x that of Switch 1 without DLSS, without the need to actually be 10x as powerful, if that makes sense).

So even if you take say a 720p60 game and make it 1440p60 (4 times the amount of pixels), there should be performance left on the table to help it hit that 60FPS better if it didn't on Switch 1.

We won't know until we actually get the system in our hands but hey, not long to wait now right?

Re: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Has Been Confirmed For Switch 2

RudyC3

I have to know how the upgrade will work for physical Switch 1 games. Will the game have to install from the cartridge to the SD express or internal memory for it to work? Or will you have to contend with simply slower load times if you upgrade the game running off a Switch 1 cart as opposed to if you bought the upgrade already on a Switch 2 card?? Or will the "upgrade" be the full Switch 2 game downloaded to your system while the Switch 1 card you physically own acts as "game key" card instead???

Re: Monster Boy's 120fps Update Could Come To Switch 2

RudyC3

@Sylamp I don't see why they'd need to ask the question if they were not looking to make some money out of it. They're asking fans, so people who already own the game. These people don't work for free and would not ask fans "oh do you want us to this thing for free for you guys?". There's no Nintendo policy to force them to do so apparently, but if it's not gonna cost you anything, why do you have to ask if you should do it, just do it!

And by the way PS5 upgrades of PS4 games were not always free. Some were, others were like $10. XBox Series S/X was kind of the exception where I think most if not all the games that got a series S/X upgrade from XBox One were free.

Re: Atlus Reveals 'RAIDOU Remastered' Switch 2 Performance And Resolution

RudyC3

@Mushvision Same. the 1TB is out of stock absolutely everywhere I looked and I just don't trust those AliExpress listings, too tempting but also seems too cheap to be true.

EDIT: I take that back I found them in one place in stock in my own country but... €359.95 is just too expensive for that thing when MSRP elsewhere is supposed to be $199 or £199 (though I guess you have to remember US prices are BEFORE taxes, which is always misleading to the rest of the world).

Re: Poll: Did You Get A Switch 2 Purchase Invite From Nintendo Yet? (Europe)

RudyC3

Everything went smoothly for me, got the link, and didn't have to wait more than 30 seconds to be let in (the MyNintendo Store for my country in Belgium is probably not as crowded though mind you owing to us being a much smaller country). I even had to go back and put in a second order an hour later for the Gamecube controller and the Pro controller cause I forgot the first time around lol.

I didn't preorder Mario Kart World physical from them though. It's €20 cheaper from Amazon for the exact same thing (€69 vs €89)

Re: 'Switch 2 Editions' Are Supposedly A Switch Game Card And Download Code For The Upgrade Pack

RudyC3

If this was true then how are we getting faster load times in those Zelda games? The max read speeds on OG Switch cards should not allow for that... Unless those Switch 2 editions have to install to the internal memory of your Switch 2 (or SD express card I guess) but that would be pretty stupid doing that instead of selling the actual Switch 2 version already patched, on the card, surely?

Re: Rumour: FCC Filing Hints At Switch 2 Pro Controller, And It May Come With One Big Upgrade

RudyC3

With the controllers on Switch 1 being "updateable" through the system OS I always wondered if it wouldn't be possible to add audio in/out capability to at least the pro controller's usb-c port. You could use a usb-c headset or a usb-c to 3.5mm jack adapter for that I guess?

But maybe the specs they used on the controller side wouldn't have allowed for that (like bluetooth radio bandwidth not being able to support that in addition to its basic controller functionality) or whatever circuitry they have in there not being tailored to decode/encode audio coming in and out over bluetooth to begin with.

Re: Switch 2 Filings Show Support For Wi-Fi 6

RudyC3

If the Switch 2 dock has an ethernet port, i'm going wired when docked anyway.

My current launch period Switch 1 dock didn't have that and God is Internet or just the downloading of patches, software and updates slow on this thing, in addition to WiFi range being piss poor to begin with.

Could be wrong but I believe it's already confirmed that the Switch 2 will have the built in ethernet port in the dock, just like I think the Switch 1 OLED model dock has one already (don't have one but from memory I believe it does).

Re: Review: Donkey Kong (GB) - One Of The Game Boy's Very Best

RudyC3

"SNES-based enhancements were possible originally through the Super Game Boy, although those are unsupported in the VC and NSO releases. These included an awesome border around the screen resembling an arcade cabinet, colour graphics, changing Pauline's digitised yelps to actual screams of "Help!", and even upgrading the credits music to SNES quality."

This! Fans can do it on PC with Higan, why can't Nintendo do it?

Re: Poll: 10 Years On, Which Version Of Zelda: Majora's Mask Is Best?

RudyC3

To me the 3DS remake broke some things that were best left untouched. But it's the better looking version and still has some QOL improvements tat make it worth it. I wish w culdhave an HED version of that that simply fixes some of the 3DS changes back to what it originally was like.

Maybe the new PC decompilation project can do that. The OoT one did allow to play with the 3DS graphics (with mods), so I hope it will be the same for MM.

Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd January (North America)

RudyC3

The Japanese physical won't update to include English. Damn, i'm so disgusted by this. If you're gonna release these physically in the west, announce it sooner, I got the Japanese copy thinking it would never come to the west, it's been almost two years for crying out loud.

EDIT: I guess it comes out on the 7th huh, I'll check again on the update front at that time, but won't hold my breath.

Re: UK Charts: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Crashes Out Of The Top 40

RudyC3

Haven't really seen any advertisement that it exists to be honest.

Thinking back to DQXI S, Nintendo of Europe was behind them, publishing and advertising it. In this case it's a multiplatform release, so Nintendo isn't there helping things along, that could be "a" reason for it not to sell just as well...
