On the one hand I would like to support these kind of developments on Switch 2, support 3rd parties when they make great efforts, but on the other hand I can get it on PC as well where it will look and run way better and the one argument I could have had in favour of Switch 2 would have been a physical version, but we're only getting a key card so... if i'm not gonna really own the game I buy anyway, i may as well get it on PC where it will drop in price sooner, and be a better experience overall (+ invest in a digital copy that's less likely to become unavailable for me to redownload down the line if I want to).
Just preordered Pokémon Legends Z-A Switch 2 Edition from them for €50. They've been good with their prices. When you consider that ordering from Nintendo themselves on the MyNintendoStoe costs €20 more that makes a serious difference. Sure MyNintendo has a figurine that comes with it but I'm willing to bypass that for a significant price difference.
@Sylamp Guess I remembered Digital Foundry comparing the Switch version to another running at 60FPS and I assumed it was any of the other home console versions of the original. Must have been the PC version then.
Dang that was the one thing I was looking forward to with this re-release, what a letdown!
That also means the code that will ship on cartridge will not be running at 60FPS ever, not great for preservation of what is supposed to be a version of the game that's better than the original. It was running at 60 on PS4 for crying out loud!
At least it's getting a proper physical release I guess but what can't we have the best of everything that should be possible on the system...
1. SD Express Cards are also considerably slower than the internal SSD. So are you telling us if the game installs to the SD Express card it won't run? We will have to constantly swap games in and out of the internal memory for them to even function properly???
2. Just get Nintendo to let us install from the cards then. We want to be able to preserve the possibility to replay these games down the line when the servers and storefronts for these platforms unavoidably go out. We don't want to buy a temporary license to play the game, we want to "own" them.
3. If I can't own it ever on physical media on Switch 2, am I not just better off buying it on Steam for PC then? At least i can reasonably expect Steam to still be around for quite some time, in a way that I can't with Nintendo's eShop, given their track record on their previous platforms...
I'm already seriously considering skipping Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2 despite how much I want to play it on there, because my PC will give me a much better experience (and the game will drop in price a lot faster on PC too).
UGH!! But I just finished playing the Switch 1 version on Switch 2 (it then locks at 60FPS). Ah well... Guess I can go back to unlock the remaining costumes in the Switch 2 Edition when it hits then.
This game seems to run bad for no real good visual reason. It's not a looker by any means and it's not like there's a crazy ton of stuff going on...
I really wanted to get this and the title gave me hope that it was fixed on Switch 2... but it's not really, not when it's not a proper Switch 2 version with visuals to match that runs smooth at all times.
Shame... Still going to skip it, my mind isn't changed
I mostly play Switch 1 games on it and it's a sad consequence of cross gen games getting released physical on Switch 1 but only key card on Switch 2. Just finished No Sleep for Kaname Date and that was the Switch 1 version on cart running on Switch 2. Before that I beat Shadow Labyrinth and I bought the Switch 1 physical, although that did get a free upgrade to Switch 2 edition so that counts as a Switch 2 release for me in a way. Wish more would offer the upgrade option.
Just bought my fourth proper Switch 2 physical release and that's the Switch 2 edition of Fantasy Life i, which isn't even sold outside of Japan, unless you import.
It's still un upgrade over PS3 in docked mode, that was 720p30 (except for fights which must have been 60, it's been a while since I played that). 1080p is a nice little boost.
I'll be happy to buy since I never properly owned Xillia 1 myself, friend of mine lent it to me for me to play it. Now if there could be an option to unlock the framerate for us on Switch 2 that'd be even better.
"For me, it’s just my aim to provide Final Fantasy XIV and XVI to as many players as possible..."
So long as those players play primarily on Playstation... right Yoshida? Remember how you shunned people asking about the PC version of XVI before it released on PS5, telling them it wasn"'t coming any time soon and to get it on PS5 if they want it so bad? But now our money is good enough apparently huh?
Even if I don't like the policing and other fringe politics behind some of those vents (thinking of GDQ specifically here), these events are part of why Nintendo is so successful IMHO. It's free advertisement for them and just shows the audience how revered those Nintendo classics are. If going forward these won't include a single Nintendo game because of such policies at Nintendo, it just paints a bad image at a time when they could use a boost, what with the whole key card debacle.
I saw the main character and thought "is this a red mage? is that a Final Fantasy action RPG?"
Anyway this reminded me a bit of the OG Seiken Densetsu (aka FF Adventure aka Mystic Quest) with the different weapons for different enemies and the fact that it channels old school Final Fantasy visual vibes.
@darkswabber There was a time (2001) when Sony owned 18.6% of Square Enix and ALL their games were exclusive to the Playstation brand on home console (the GBA games happened out of necessity for the company which wasn't doing so well financially and because Sony hadn't entered the handheld space yet). This lasted for years with few exceptions. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube is the only exception I can think of and this very much happened because of Yamauchi's Fund Q funding company fronting the money for Game Designers Studio.
Sony certainly has a history of owning stakes in companies to take control of their development potential... but sold off those stakes in Square Enix in 2014 though.
I'm not gonna poke fun at the guy, I do miss the days of custom coloured carts for games. black Killer Instinct, gold Zelda, red Doom or heck the Pokémon games for crying out loud, how long has it been since we got a proper coloured Pokémon cart?
Been using the 4K 60 Pro Mk. II for the past 3 years. it still serves me well.
In my experience external capture devices tend to induce more latency between any mic and camera you may also be using to stream live which you then have to artificially delay by the same amount as the delay you capture card induces. Things can desync easily and it's just a pain. Maybe that aspect has greatly improved with faster interfaces though like USB-C and faster protocols (I was using an Elgato HD 60 S before that).
However the bandwidth of your interface is still going to limit the quality you can get out of your capture card and USB-C can't beat an internal PCI-e Gen-3 or higher. The 4K S uses USB3 Gen2 over USB-C which caps it at 10Gbps (or 1.25 GBps) versus the 4 GBps afforded by a 4K 60 Pro Mk. II PCI-e Gen 3 (4 lane connector). The 4Ks will compress the data stream more to send it to your capture software.
No physical, no buy. Simple. Unless it's a game I absolutely have to play and absolutely have to do so on Switch, otherwise if i'm not even getting anything tangible in hands for the price, I mai as well get it on PC where it'll be cheaper. but this ain't it, despite the fact that I did enjoy the OG trilogy on Switch 1, but I didn't have to pay that, I wouldn't have bought that trilogy pack with only the first game on cart either otherwise.
Can you upgrade to it from your existing Switch 1 version? That's my question since I have not played that yet (nor IX for that matter).
Also where's Memories of Celceta in the west? I'd buy the Japanese version but... last time I got Felghana physical from Japan and a month later it was announced for release in the west, ugh!
Making ROMs, distributing them, creating pirated physical copies, selling them online, these are all things that are illegal in most parts of the world and Nintendo isn't necessarily even involved with fighting those. Law enforcement is, sometimes with no involvement from the rights holders themselves.
In my line of work, a very small part of the massive amount of stuff we have to look out for is pirated physical copies or devices such as those emulation machines you buy on Ali Express that comes with the ROMs on them from ever reaching the end buyers (And if it's a machine I've not seen yet, I'll turn it on to see if it bundles the ROMs or not or any copyrighted BIOS files, cause some of them have the emulators but no copyrighted stuff, I do my due diligence and actually check).
Nintendo isn't breathing down our necks for us to hunt those down, it's just part of enforcing laws pertaining to intellectual property protection, video game related or not, Nintendo related or not. Nintendo stuff is just statistically more pirated than everything else, at least that's what I've come to notice on the job.
I almost ordered the SW1 version from japan with the intent of updating it to the SW2 version to play it. Glad I waited but still, I wish they would tell people this sooner. Bit of a scummy practice to get their most devoted fans to double dip.
Finally got a Lexar 1TB for €299 (£258.14), that was pricey but not as much as it usually seems to ben which made it seem like a decent deal, and it's definitely the price of comfort... of being able to have my entire digital Switch 1 library on hand while still having room to spare for upcoming switch 2 titles and their update patches. I mostly buy physical anyway, but I hope for it to last me a long time before it's full too.
People have short memories. The exact same situation arose between Nintendo of Europe and Amazon France 6 years ago. You could only buy Switch units and its games from third party sellers back then.
They were my primary source for switch physical games at the time and for a few months, the situation didn't change. Thankfully they are now once again one of the cheapest place to buy Switch games there days (preordered Bananza from them for €59.90 which is cheaper than all other online retailers I found)
Been using a third party old cable cause it's the one connected to my Elgato 4K Pro at all times, I don't think it's even HDMI 2.1 compliant and the cable from my Elgato to the TV is the Switch 1 official cable... and I didn't get an issue. I get HDR and 4K60 output like normal. I know I shouldn't but I am and I don't know why. Haven't had a problem with controller connections either.
Will be investing in a proper HDMI 2.1 cable so the Switch 2 is connected to the capture card and then to he TV over 2.1 all the way, as i only have the one connecting my PC itself to the TV and the one that came with the Switch 2 (need a third one basically).
@Dang_69 Game data on the SD card itself got corrupted first, which then led to the data on the console itself corrupting in turn. I had to factory reset my Switch entirely cause it would randomly crash on the home menu even after removing the SD card itself. It would not boot games installed on internal memory anymore either. Yes those saves were on the internal memory but internal memory got corrupted (including system files I imagine or it wouldn't crash on the home menu itself) because the SD card did first.
I ran a H2testw of the SD card on my desktop PC cause i didn't want to keep using the same SD card for fear it would cause the same issue a second time and lo and behold, it's the SD card that had gone bad first, hence why I replaced it instead of reformatting it.
It wasn't the internal memory that was at fault or I would have ran into the same issue even after factory resetting the system and replacing the SD card and I didn't. Three years on and a chocked full 512GB card and it still runs fine.
@Dang_69 Lexar is a reputable brand that's been in the high performance flash memory business for years, in particular flash memory for 4K video recording, which demands higher reliability and performance than your typical Sandisk and Samsung card. they get hammered harder than your Switch's SD card with high throughput reads and writes... and their failure rates, while not zero, no brand's are... are no worse than Samsung's or Sandisk's.
I've had data corruption on some Sandisk cards myself over the years, especially in Android phones with many reads and writes performed continuously. They're not magical or perfect while other brands are not. On my Switch's old 128GB Toshiba as well and they're rated among the most reliable out there. Imagine that I lost all of my Pokémon game saves on Switch and i owned one of each dual releases + arceus legends... and those saves do not backup to the cloud so that's a good 1000+ hours of gameplay that I lost to a so-called reputable brand of sd card.
I got a 512GB Samsung EVO next. Knock on wood, for the past three years I got no issues, but they're not made of magical stuff that will never fail.
Availability has been a big problem and retailers (online or otherwise) know it and routinely jack up the prices of the larger options. I've seen the same Lexar 1TB go from €269 all the way up to €389, it's that volatile, it's insane
Many devs that had Switch 1 dev kits still don't even have Switch 2 dev kits despiting imploring Nintendo to let them have one. One shouldn't expect too many projects early on if devs can't even get started on them.
Super Deluxe Games like to push back their release dates with no explanations however so you could be stuck with a preorder for a very long time (happened to me with Mushihimesama, I preordered it along with other games and my whole order was stuck at Play-Asia before Mushihime was simply not coming out for months at a time).
Not sure I want to pay and not be sure of when I will be getting my order, especially since orders can take a month to arrive from Play-Asia.
I've got a Baseus 30000mAh 65W one that can charge up to 2.8A 15V on output on a USB-C to USB-C cable... for €69.95 (that's including tax AND shipping btw, I'm saying since our North American friends don't like to talk about taxes when they mention prices)
I've been very happy with it, it takes a while to recharge mind you but at least I can use it while playing Switch 2 in handheld mode and it charges faster than the battery gets drained, the same can't always be said about power banks.
I was pleasantly surprised that you can remap the horizontal axis on the C-stick in Wind Waker. The older way that camera controls used to work just bugs me these days. Although it's way too sensitive to be used to twin stick control Link like you would in a modern game, but I guess it was that way in the original game.
If i wanted to replay it now though, I think I'd still dust off the Wii U and play the HD version. But for those that don't have it, short of a Switch 2 native port, it's good to have I suppose.
@Truegamer79 Most if not all of them have some form of dynamic resolution scaling (Xeno 2 is the worst offender in that regard).
I don't know if you should expect them to look better without some kind of patch but you should expect them to at least meet their maximum output resolution most if not all the time, which would be an improvement over the original console. i think most if not all of them capped at 720p IIRC. I know for sure that Xeno 2 did.
Nintendo Europe, as per usual, shipped it too late so now it won't arrive today, nor tomorrow... and since no deliveries on weekends and Monday is a holiday... I won't be getting mine until Tuesday next week!
Thanks Nintendo for the privilege of preordering from you, as a faithful customer per your own definition, and for NOT taking precautions to insure your devoted fans get their hard paid unit on launch day. Could have shipped it a bit earlier to make sure of that but no, we wouldn't want to take the risk of someone getting theirs even one day early, so let's take the risk that they get it 5 days late instead.
I echo the sentiment of many here, this would be so much better if the character designs didn't look so generic. The anime art style seen in artworks for the original is what they should have gone for, and the technology of today can totally support that sort of look in real time 3D, we've seen it numerous times.
I'll be on leave part of next week for Switch 2 so I'm assured to be at home with nothing else to do when it arrives.
I won't get Mario Kart World till the week after though, Amazon won't be delivering mine on launch day (unless they revise that estimate) and Cyberpunk I'm getting from Japan (it's cheaper!!) so I won't be getting it for a couple more weeks after launch at least.
EDIT: So I guess my launch day plans may include ACA Ridge Racer and Fast Fusion, along with an assortment of Switch 1 games, freely updated for Switch 2 or not, to see how BackCompat behaves.
The way I see it, they won't talk of improved performance in patch notes when he original already targeted 60 but fell short.
But the simple fact that whatever game it is runs in some sort of "Switch 2 mode" should give it the extra performance it needs to hit 60 more consistently, even if they multiply the pixel count by say 4.
Numbers seem to indicate so far that the raw graphical rendering power of the system is like 6 times that of switch 1 or thereabouts (the 10x number put forward by Nvidia is likely only in cases where DLSS is used to reach the end result, so you'd effectively not be rendering exactly 10 times the graphical load, but DLSS would help you achieve a visual result akin to what you'd get with a GPU 10x that of Switch 1 without DLSS, without the need to actually be 10x as powerful, if that makes sense).
So even if you take say a 720p60 game and make it 1440p60 (4 times the amount of pixels), there should be performance left on the table to help it hit that 60FPS better if it didn't on Switch 1.
We won't know until we actually get the system in our hands but hey, not long to wait now right?
And it probably won't come full on the cartridge either if previous Borderlands releases on Switch are anything to go by (I'm looking at you Borderlands Legendary Collection).
And this is coming from the people to whom we owe this:
I have to know how the upgrade will work for physical Switch 1 games. Will the game have to install from the cartridge to the SD express or internal memory for it to work? Or will you have to contend with simply slower load times if you upgrade the game running off a Switch 1 cart as opposed to if you bought the upgrade already on a Switch 2 card?? Or will the "upgrade" be the full Switch 2 game downloaded to your system while the Switch 1 card you physically own acts as "game key" card instead???

Re: Struggling For Switch 2 Storage? TeamGroup Launches A Range Of Micro SD Express Cards For The Console

Got the standard physical release, I'm good!
Re: Struggling For Switch 2 Storage? TeamGroup Launches A Range Of Micro SD Express Cards For The Console

Re: Struggling For Switch 2 Storage? TeamGroup Launches A Range Of Micro SD Express Cards For The Console
Availability has been a big problem and retailers (online or otherwise) know it and routinely jack up the prices of the larger options. I've seen the same Lexar 1TB go from €269 all the way up to €389, it's that volatile, it's insane
Re: Techland Skips Dying Light 'Retouched' Upgrade For Switch, Says There Are No Plans For A Switch 2 Version
Many devs that had Switch 1 dev kits still don't even have Switch 2 dev kits despiting imploring Nintendo to let them have one. One shouldn't expect too many projects early on if devs can't even get started on them.
Re: Missed Out On Castlevania Anniversary, Advance & Dominus Collection Physical Editions? Fear Not, As Pre-Orders Have Gone Live On Play-Asia

Re: Best Power Banks and Chargers To Play Nintendo Switch 2 On The Go
I've got a Baseus 30000mAh 65W one that can charge up to 2.8A 15V on output on a USB-C to USB-C cable... for €69.95 (that's including tax AND shipping btw, I'm saying since our North American friends don't like to talk about taxes when they mention prices)
I've been very happy with it, it takes a while to recharge mind you but at least I can use it while playing Switch 2 in handheld mode and it charges faster than the battery gets drained, the same can't always be said about power banks.
Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Switch 2 Users About Their Experience So Far
JoyCon 2 sticks are still too small to my liking. I'll invest in a Hori Split Pad whenever one inevitably becomes available.
Re: Random: Using A GameCube Controller With The NSO App Yields Fun Surprises
I was pleasantly surprised that you can remap the horizontal axis on the C-stick in Wind Waker. The older way that camera controls used to work just bugs me these days. Although it's way too sensitive to be used to twin stick control Link like you would in a modern game, but I guess it was that way in the original game.
If i wanted to replay it now though, I think I'd still dust off the Wii U and play the HD version. But for those that don't have it, short of a Switch 2 native port, it's good to have I suppose.
Re: The Switch 2 Fixes Its Predecessor's "Worst Performing" Game
@Truegamer79 Most if not all of them have some form of dynamic resolution scaling (Xeno 2 is the worst offender in that regard).
I don't know if you should expect them to look better without some kind of patch but you should expect them to at least meet their maximum output resolution most if not all the time, which would be an improvement over the original console. i think most if not all of them capped at 720p IIRC. I know for sure that Xeno 2 did.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?
Re: Feature: "It Was Always About Surviving Together" - Why Konami Chose This Forgotten IP For Switch 2's Launch
I echo the sentiment of many here, this would be so much better if the character designs didn't look so generic. The anime art style seen in artworks for the original is what they should have gone for, and the technology of today can totally support that sort of look in real time 3D, we've seen it numerous times.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: New Age Of Heroes (Dreamcast)
Japanese and European sell the large roster of playable characters better in addition to showing more artistic effort.
Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?
Re: Nintendo Today! Update Prevents Users From Recording Promotional Videos
Aren't they just youtube videos anyway hat you can already watch outside the app or am I missing something?
EDIT: Ok i guess they were not huh, I learned something.
Re: Zelda Fans Are Concerned About The Free Switch 2 Updates, But Don't Worry

Re: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Has Been Confirmed For Switch 2
I have to know how the upgrade will work for physical Switch 1 games. Will the game have to install from the cartridge to the SD express or internal memory for it to work? Or will you have to contend with simply slower load times if you upgrade the game running off a Switch 1 cart as opposed to if you bought the upgrade already on a Switch 2 card?? Or will the "upgrade" be the full Switch 2 game downloaded to your system while the Switch 1 card you physically own acts as "game key" card instead???
