"We know you hate it but we're gonna do it anyway, because we don't care what you love or hate, if we force it onto you then you have no choice to gobble it up, so why wouldn't we!"
Zeldas are exclusive to Nintendo systems and in the 80s and up to mid 90s, the UK was microcomputer land (ZX Spectrums, BBC Micros, Acorn Archimedes, C64, Amiga, Atari STs, etc) and Sega Land in the console space, then it turned into Playstation land by the time the PS1 and Saturn rolled around. You need an install base to sell games, and Nintendo simply never dominated there. The same could be said about much of Europe in fact.
I would have said they must have dominated Christmas 2006 with Wii Sports but that was bundled with the system everywhere except in Japan so I guess that makes sense it wouldn't top the software charts.
@Grail_Quest I still own a C64 "C" model so I know it all too well, I grew up playing Boulder Dash, Blagger, Thundercats and many others on it.
But the C64 is not what's on the list, it's the derivative console that is, the C64 GS. That was never popular by comparison. And quite frankly... we've had a C64 Mini anyway, so if we wanted a console like convenient C64 experience, there's already that option available (and you can easily load all the games you want on it, since the vast majority of them are abandonware at this point)
You know this list is utter BS when the console C64 GS (NOT the microcomputer C64) made the list with 50+% of gamers wanting it back... That console is one of the biggest failures in the history of console gaming XD. I doubt anyone wants it back that badly, certainly not such a high proportion of gamers either.
Get a 8bitdo M30 instead, it should do just as good of a job, is much cheaper, works with the Switch AND other devices out-of-the-box, and is available worldwide.
Credit where credit is due though, I tried looking at the pictures before looking at the headlines and more often than not I could tell which game or franchise it was related to. It's kind of weird actually, how an abstract image can make you think of something familiar.
Initially when it was rumoured it was the trilogy coming, I figured they'd be just the original Wii versions running at 1080p or something. Like the Mario 3D collection. But if it's going to have improved textures and other quality of life improvements and get more work put into them, I'm all for it.
If they could get a game like Skyward Sword, a Wii game, looking better, at 1080p and running at twice the framerate of the original, surely a game like MP1 that already ran at 60FPS on the frigging GC and looking as good as it did for its time would be running at 1080p without problems AND with room to further improve visuals?
I would hope so anyway, especially given how long these have been rumoured to be worked on.
Well what would they add to a new Switch release that wasn't in the original?
The mods, ok, sure. But everything else that's in this anniversary release is already in the 2017 Switch game and you can't expect a graphical upgrade, the original Switch version is as good as it could get really, it was a great port.
Well if you want to complete the game 100%, as in maximising the development level of each town/land, you do need to destroy stuff so such a system would kind of clash with the basic gameplay loop of Actraiser methinks. It'd be like going for 100% would automatically disqualify you from trying to retain a positive title, especially since they made it so earthquakes now destroy EVERY building instead of only those of a lower level of sophistication (that wasn't the case in the original, where one earthquake would level only older houses, leaving space for people to rebuild the top level ones that can house more population)
Street Racer from 1994 and on SNES is a more obvious clone than this IMHO, I mean if you're going to talk about clones of the time. Or something like BC Racers, also in 1994, from Core Design on competing Sega and 3DO hardware.
Yeah I know this is supposed to be one of the best versions but we've already had Tetris Effect recently, so releasing this off the back of Tetris Effect makes you wonder what the Tetris Company is thinking (I know they're not making the game themselves, just licensing out the rights to external developers, but still)
EDIT: My bad I should have read the article in full, so this is not at all confirmed for Switch or anything.
They'll go for an 8GB cart and put one game on there and force you to download the other 2 (Like Borderlands trilogy pack which only had the 1st game w/o its DLC on the cart). Bet that's what it'll be.
Just coming off of playing both Outlast games on Switch and have to say these were some of the creepiest and downright uncomfortable (in a good way given the genre) experiences I've ever had. Alien Isolation remains my top game in the genre, and the Switch version is great, but Outlast is way scarier to me. The gore that goes way overboard is a big reason for this.
Not gonna lie, I really want this controller, if not for use on Nintendo switch online, but so I can use it on my PC on emulators. Other Switch controllers are detected and compatible with Windows out of the box (Steam even has button layouts specifically for those pads), so surely this one would work too?
I have a USB adapter for original N64 controllers, but all of those I own are a bit long in the tooth at this point. Hopefully the stick on those new ones is more reliable than back in the day.
They have never re-released Pilotwings 64 and to see it still devoid of a re-release really breaks my heart. Being able to replay it may just be what I need to make me accept to fork out the outrageous price they're asking.
I also hope we get Ridge Racer 64 eventually as that was also a great game, developed by NST. I know Namco, today Bandai Namco, owns the rights to the brand but with the price they're asking, surely they can arrange something to put it in our hands again.
The N64 games is the only thing I'm interested in in there. I don't play Animal Crossing and didn't grow up with Mega Drive/ Genesis and don't care for it. So it's ridiculous that I should be expected to pay that much for N64 and some extra stuff added on top that I don't want.
I want to be able to enjoy N64 without having to pay for all that extra stuff, they should just add N64 to the regular plan and make the regular plan a bit more expensive if they have to. But I won't be paying for Mega Drive and Animal Crossing.
The choice is welcome, and I'm glad they made that decision. I can see the different versions not playing nice with one another online, but I would assume that since you would only play with people you know from your friends list anyway, and not random people, all involved players would speak the same language and therefore would be playing either all the 60Hz version or all the 50Hz version for the localised ones. So this shouldn't be too much of an issue, I would hope.
Personally even as a non-native speaker, I only play in English these days and probably won't touch the 50Hz versions ever, except maybe for Smash Bros. for the French announcer, which sends nostalgic shivers up and down my spine whenever I hear it ^^.
I don't care about Genesis/MD and there are not a TON of N64 games that they could add to the service that I'd absolutely want to play. There are absolutely essential N64 titles on there that I do want on my Switch, especially multiplayer games to play them online but, let's be realistic, the catalogue of must-play N64 titles numbers perhaps 50 games and not all of them can be expected to make it on the service due to licensing issues or other technical difficulties preventing it.
So $£€5 would be my ideal price, but I can see a problem with that already, they would want to offer a nice round price for non-yearly subscriptions as well so I'm more expecting a price like $£€10 per year and then maybe 3 for 3 months and 1 or 1.50 per month if you want a short time to just sample the extra content.
3D PS1 games have aged horribly. And whenever a game goes for "a PS1 look" it's always THAT look. The best PS1 horror games for me had prerendered backgrounds. Nobody tries that style anymore. Why can't we have a game like REBirth on Switch, but a new one, in that style, not of the RE franchise, but just a talented studio attempting the pre-rendered look but with today's technology. Back in the day it was a means to make a game better looking than if you ran it natively and with the Switch being underpowered, wouldn't it make sense there?
If they're trying to cater to the tapbletop RPG crowd, there are better ways to do it. Crimshon Shroud on 3DS for example was done excellently while still looking rather simplistic.
Such a shame, the port of the first game to Switch is excellent. I do think the second game had issues at launch that got ironed out eventually. I guess this one is perhaps asking too much of the Switch hardware? If at least they could fix the bugs, this could still be worth it when the time comes for a Switch successor, capable of running older games much better (just brute forcing through the poorly optimised code so to speak).
If we're getting Banjo-Kazooie from Rare, then there should be no reason why we couldn't finally get Diddy Kong Racing (the GOOD one, not the Nintendo DS version which was inferior).
Well didn't Nintendo also fund Project Zero V/Fatal Frame V in the same way? There were also some Nintendo staff credited in the realisation of the game... and now that's coming to all the other platforms as well, so...
I only played Shadowrun Returns back in the day on PC and enjoyed it quite a lot. Never got round to play the sequels/expansions so will be glad to play through them on Switch. I hope they run well. They should as these are not super demanding games, but I really hope they don't botch them. I enjoyed the soundtrack in Returns in particular.
Game Boy doesn't need a specific controller for it. If the rumoured N64 games for Switch online are true though, an N64 classic controller would make sense cause those games don't always translate well to controllers that don't have at least 6 face buttons. Remapping N64 buttons to a more modern controllers for those games is kind of a nightmare.
I'll admit though, what I would really like to see, especially for a future new Switch model (the switch's successor) are JoyCon with analog triggers akin to those of the XBox One and Series S/X consoles. Driving and racing games especially need these so bad and potential future Gamecube releases would make so much more sense with those... and updated joysticks to avoid any future drift debacle on Switch 2. I understand why they may be stuck with their current ones now to ensure 100% compatibility in one ecosystem, but if they're gonna make a whole new Switch, scrap those crappy sticks once and for all, go for a different manufacturer.
"although, with reported sales of just 100,000 units, you can't be blamed for having never seen one in the flesh."
Hey, I did see one in the flesh! Just in a glass case in a shop where it was for sale for a ridiculous price, never owned one myself obviously, but I did see one in the flesh!
Never been so enlightened than when I watched Gamers Nexus's video on buying an office chair over a gaming chair. Gaming chairs, or most of them anyway, are simply a scam, they're potentially harmful for your long term health even I'd wager. My old man, as he's nearing retirement, is often sitting for long hours in front of his computer and wanted to buy a gaming chair from a local store that had a deal on them, I told him "ask if you can try it out first before you fork any money for one", and it's good that he was able to, cause he said it was a horrible experience sitting in it.
Anything coming out of Ikea with the word "gaming" attached to it, I'd be wary of instantly. With that being said, heck, a shelf or a desk, whether it's from Ikea or anyone else is just furniture, it's not like that can harm you. But you don't need a "gaming" shelf or desk to game. Attaching the word "gaming" to it is just another way to milk more money out of naive customers.
That Game Boy loud PING makes it for me. It's symbollic of a whole generation, a sound that's a fraction of a second long and yet evokes so many childhood memories.
how about company logo sounds though? That SNES Konami or Capcom logo sound are just as important memories if not even more so.
This series was fantastic on Commodore 64, I grew up on this, but any newer game released after 1990 pretty much fails to capture the brilliance of the original games.
It used to be all about the physics of the game and how each level was a puzzle of physics and logic to collect the required amount of diamonds to get the exit open and usually, you needed to collect most if not all of them to do it. More recent games are way too easy by comparison and rely more on gimmick items rather than clever use of physics to solve situations.
Boulder Dash II was the pinnacle of the series IMHO.
I recently replayed Another Code for a stream, I played it injected in a Wii U VC title and you can do the "close the system" on there by pressing the home button or opening the VC menu from in-game. The same can be done in the officially released Wii U VC version of Phantom Hourglass.
He was simply the best composer on Megadrive/Genesis. The majority of games for that system had crap sound, regardless of how good the compositions actually were. But THIS guy, he knew how to use the system to get the most out of it.
Growing up though, I was on Super Nintendo, so my favourites of his would have to be Actraiser and Super Adventure Island.
30 years ago digital sales were not really a thing though, unless you count Famicom Disk System disk write kiosks as digital sales which admittedly they kind of were.
This top doesn't say how many tens of thousands of digital sales were made on Switch, or PS5 for that matter. That doesn't necessarily mean other platforms aren't doing well, could also be a case of Switch players preferring physical so as to save on SD card or internal storage (you can even get physical games for cheaper than through the eShop sometimes so it totally makes sense). The same issue isn't entirely true on PS5, though admittedly PS5 games are much larger in general and getting an extra NVME SSD with the right specs can be pretty pricey as well, but then physical copies don't command the same kind of premium on PS5 as they tend to do on Switch cartridges.
Not video game related per say but right before the women's judo finals in the -48kg category, they played "Making of a Cyborg", the opening music of Ghost in the Shell. I thought that was awesome!
@ferroreo Because I already ordered from Play Asia and found myself having to pay more than half the value of the game in customs fees. Never again.
If Play- Asia lists a supposedly European physical release, then that means some retailers in Europe should sell it too eventually, assuming they're not full of *****.
"This title will be available for purchase digitally". Still no physical release huh? Well, no thanks then, I was all in until I saw that line. My money will go instead to games that get released physically, plenty to choose from.
Make up your mind already ninty, I'm dying to replay the first of those three and have been holding out because of such rumours, but where's the collection? I don't want to replay it now only to have the trilogy be announced officially the day after.

Memory degradation is sadly an unavoidable thing with rewriteable flash memory, especially manufactured that long ago.
Much more recent USB memory sticks go bad just from too frequent rewrites, and such old flash memory technology as BS-X cards is no exception.

Re: Quick Beats: Streets Of Rage Composer On Musical Heroes And The Series He'd Love To Work On
He was simply the best composer on Megadrive/Genesis. The majority of games for that system had crap sound, regardless of how good the compositions actually were. But THIS guy, he knew how to use the system to get the most out of it.
Growing up though, I was on Super Nintendo, so my favourites of his would have to be Actraiser and Super Adventure Island.
Re: Switch Takes Japan's Entire Top 30 Software Chart, The First Console To Do So Since 1988
30 years ago digital sales were not really a thing though, unless you count Famicom Disk System disk write kiosks as digital sales which admittedly they kind of were.
Re: Minecraft Update 1.17.11 Patch Notes - Bug Fixes, Item Dupe Glitch Removed
The beacon item dupe glitch was specifically on mobile if I'm not mistaken. That was never possible on Switch afaik.
Re: Report Outlines Cancelled Plans For Nintendo's Role In Tokyo Olympics Ceremony
Not video game related per say but right before the women's judo finals in the -48kg category, they played "Making of a Cyborg", the opening music of Ghost in the Shell. I thought that was awesome!
Re: Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Will Haunt Switch At Halloween
@ferroreo Because I already ordered from Play Asia and found myself having to pay more than half the value of the game in customs fees. Never again.
If Play- Asia lists a supposedly European physical release, then that means some retailers in Europe should sell it too eventually, assuming they're not full of *****.

Goldeneye 007 - Facility!
Re: Project Zero: Maiden Of Black Water Will Haunt Switch At Halloween
"This title will be available for purchase digitally". Still no physical release huh? Well, no thanks then, I was all in until I saw that line. My money will go instead to games that get released physically, plenty to choose from.
Re: Random: The Internet Is Dunking On Space Jam 2's Game Boy Cameo
Hey! I enjoyed Crazy Castle 2 on GB! It wasn't great or anything but not as bad as some people make it seem.
Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy For Switch Ready To Go, According To Industry Insider
Make up your mind already ninty, I'm dying to replay the first of those three and have been holding out because of such rumours, but where's the collection? I don't want to replay it now only to have the trilogy be announced officially the day after.
