Re: Aliens: Fireteam Elite Cloud Version Is No Longer Playable On Switch

Roibeard64

@Mgalens it would be nice to see an option to purchase the NSO games (maybe 6 months after added to the service if its somekinda marketing concern for NSO subs).

It would also be good to have games I bought on wii and wii u virtual console just be owned on Switch.

Playstation does one thing right (in a sea of awful sony decisions) and that's any ps1 or ps2 game they add to their service which I'm not a subscriber to , that I previously bought on ps3 or psp gets added as owned on the ps5.

They don't do it for ps3 games though. Something about them being streamed but they could if they wanted to

Re: Aliens: Fireteam Elite Cloud Version Is No Longer Playable On Switch

Roibeard64

@ShadLink yeah there should be a disclaimer screen too before completing payment.

Something like (maybe one comes up i dont know i never paid for one)

Attention, this is a once off subscription fee where you are paying for access to the cloud system to stream the game for the agreed fee.

The service requires a steady internet connection and will eventually terminate with prior notice, at which point you will no longer have any access whatsoever to the game.

Please confirm you wish to proceed with payment.

Re: Aliens: Fireteam Elite Cloud Version Is No Longer Playable On Switch

Roibeard64

Cloud games were always going be turned off one day , they were basically a rental system to get arround the switch's dated tech. I like to think most people knew this that paid for them and I doubt they were a popular choice but hey if you knew it would be temporary, had only a switch and a decent Internet connection it was an option to play a game that was never coming to the system otherwise. [,for a time)

It's not the same as a regular digital game.

Re: Nintendo Asks Court To Dismiss U.S. Tariff Refund Lawsuit

Roibeard64

I honestly can't work out how nintendo would go about refunding everyone even if they wanted to.

They would only have details of people who bought directly from them at best.

Maybe they should just do like they did with the ambassador program and allow people to claim a free switch 1 game from a lineup.

Re: GameStop CEO Says Video Game Software Makes Up Less Than 12% Of The Business

Roibeard64

@Anti-Matter why would you specifically hate the convenience of digital that frankly makes no sense that's the best part of digital and probably why it's overtaking physically (statistical, not in your own collection).
If you don't value convience that's entirely your perogative but you can't just dismiss it outright.

Hate on the negatives not the positives.

There could be a future where digital does not mean no ownership rights if these companies get called up on same by consumers and regulators.

Look at GOG for an example of doing it right and then Steam proves you don't have to delist anything from someones digital library.

I don't want the death of physical games but it certainly seems that that are becoming a niche market.
In that case the likes of Sony must give gamers proper protections and rights in relation to digital purchases.

Re: Nintendo Will Stop Selling The Original Switch From February 2027

Roibeard64

It's probably due to the new battery requirements but I'd say the switch 1 factories belts are shuting down globally anyway next year. With price of parts going up its time to focus on switch 2.

Also I don't think there will be anymore big first party games for switch 1 anymore.(if any).

Having the older console for 2 years seems about right

Re: Industry Analyst: Sony's Shock Physical Announcement Unlikely To Influence Nintendo's Plans

Roibeard64

People asking to abolish GKC just have no understanding of the issues.

If GKC are gone all those games on them will en mass be digital only, simple as that and that will push gaming more towards digital as only option.

Smaller/bigger/ faster etc carts aren't going change that. The publishers look at the cost and how it hits their profit margins and most say nope.

GKC at least are the middle ground, they are far from perfect but if it prevents Nintendo following Sony then I'll take them.

I've actually managed tp pick up a few GKC in sales dispite the digital version being full price. Plus I can lend them out or resale them.

They might be a distant second to my preference of full physical (and lack the convenience of digital) but only Nintendo first party and some dedicated indies seem to be using fully physical now.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Star Fox On Switch 2?

Roibeard64

I gave it an 8.
It's a brilliant remake but couldn't give it higher as it didn't add enough new things.
Thr challenge mode was a great addition , the holoviewer is nice too and the multiplayer while fun is too limited.
Had it a new game plus where things are remixed (eg Star Wolf attacks during Katina, Sector Y's boss has more mechs , the mech boss on Cornia has a different weak point and fighters etc or you play as an arwing protecting the landmaster in MacBeth)or if there was a new level or two new it would have gotten a nine.
A boss rush is another missed opportunity.

Re: Reaction: A Direct That Picked Up Pace For A Breathtaking Finish

Roibeard64

I gave it a 7/10.

Mainly due to never really been actually blown away. Spent too much time focusing on certain things like Splatoon Raiders and Wii Sports eg Thumb Wrestling while Oot was over in seconds , same with Dustbloods .

Lacked that one big satisfying Nintendo announcement for me, Xenoblade was nice but it just didn't blow me away.

Third party was good but there was so many RPGs they blended into one at times.

Thought it was strange there was nothing really for NSO (Donkey Kong challenge should have been revealed in Nintendo Today)

Re: Amazon Shares Statement About The Future Of James Bond Video Games

Roibeard64

I doubt a collection is something they will do since to get the ganes from Goldeneye 007 onwards the publishing rights belong to Nintendo EA and Activision (Microsoft). Then their the rights of the various developers some of which like Eurocom are long shutdown (though other companies may have bought their rights) and then there's the question of celebrity voice acting and using their likeness etc .

I'd love to see Agent under fire, Nightmare and Everything or nothing return in s collection but can't see it happening.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Revision For Europe

Roibeard64

@kfflscnt I didnt mention the price increase at all.

But you mean the price increase that they also announced for Japan and America as well.

I'd say it comes from price of RAM and other components caused by AI tech centres, an energy crisis, trade wars and the whole situation in the straits of Hormuz between US & Iran.

Just look at Sony, Microsoft and Steam price increases.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch 2 Games

Roibeard64

Sigh anyone else feel like they can never satisfy the comment section.

Nintendo announces a Mario , Zelda or a Pokemon game (the massice sales juggernauts thst they are). Gets accused of being boring, creativitly bankrupt, milking same old tired franchises etc.

Nintendo announces any other franchises and its all boring where are the big hitters, I dont like x bring back y (with its lower sales).

I'm not going have the time and probably not the funds either to play everything they have released/announced so far.

Re: Star Fox Is Finally Getting Another Game, Out June 2026 Exclusively On Switch 2

Roibeard64

So Starfox 64 was released in 1997.

The 3ds remake doesn't feel too long ago to me but it was actually back in 2011.

Star fox zero was 2016 on a console very few had with very mixed reception for the game itself.

So it's 15 years since the 3ds remake and 10 since the last release in the series. (9 if you want to count Starfox 2 on Snes mini).

Would I have prefered a non remake of 64 sure but I can see why they did it.

The whole switch generation only saw Starfox in Smash Bros and cameo in Starlink: Battle for Atlas,, there's a whole generation of gamers that never played a Starfox game to win over (alot of which won't be interested in 64 on NSO). So this is a way to get them into it without massive development costs I suspect (that and we all here know 64 has been the peak of the series)

If this takes off it can be the foundation of a new starfox series of games.

Re: Nintendo Announces Switch 2 Pokémon Pokopia Bundle

Roibeard64

@rallydefault 💯 and it is setting the scene for companies to do what they always do and exploit it.

Playstation already only allows digital content to be purchased directly from it's online store. No codes available in retailers/grey market sites etc. So if physical dies out entirely there , its the price on the PS store or you don't get the game at all.
At the moment I find physical games on ps5 in stores/amazon can often be cheaper that PS store.

Convenience though will always win for better or worse.

Re: Nintendo Announces Switch 2 Pokémon Pokopia Bundle

Roibeard64

Absolutely sick of people posting the same take on digital games or game key cards like it's first time anyone found it out, we all know but funny thing is for digital purchases the masses don't actually care, convenience beats the downsides for most people.

PC hasn't done physical in decades and it's doing better than ever.

Playstation and Xbox do digital only consoles options and they sell.

Whether you like it or not for better or worse physical is on the decline. If you don't want to buy digital or GKCs don't but we don't need to hear you announce it every time.

Also legally the software on the disk or cartridges was always a licence.

Same with dvd etc for films. It was just more impractical to revoke same if you breached terms of the licence though was technically possible.

Re: UK Charts: Tomodachi Life Is Living The Dream In Its Debut Week

Roibeard64

@SBandy1 apart from the difference in the size of the install base Re9 is not as technically impressive on the Switch 2 vs ps5 / pc. So people with both might be less likely to buy on Switch 2

Although having just finished it on Switch 2 yesterday it's incredibly impressive performance wise, geniuely surprised me how smooth an experience it was, ok the hair physics aren't up there with ps5 but didn't matter to me while playing.
I played it docked the whole time so can't speak to handheld mode.

Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?

Roibeard64

I'd always say start with RE2 remake if you like more traditional Re action.
You could also jump into the 4 remake but 2s a nice introduction to alot of the series lore etc and the best remake I think so far.

Re7 if you just prefer a more horror survival style.

Wouldn't recommend remake of 1 or RE0 as they are too dated if you aren't already into clunky tank controls and inventory nonsense.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

Roibeard64

Have my original one ambassador and 3ds xl which in retrospect was my least used one and really worth it as was another one.
New 3ds which became my main (I kinda regret not getting an xl one but it's a sleek white one with nintendo logo in japanese so its nice but at time there was no xl one offered until later)
Lastly picked up a 2ds xl when stores where had them in clearance sakes.

Re: Nintendo Seemingly Rules Out Virtual Console Revival, Says It Remains Focused On Offering Classics Via Switch Online

Roibeard64

The more I think about it the less sense it makes to release these on NSO.

1-it limits your market to those on or willing to join NSO and pokemons fan base is huge.
2-NSO features like the save states would "ruin" the developers intention of the gameplay.
3- compatability with pokemon home may have been technically difficult if it was on the NSO app.
4- People would be upset if they lost access to their pokemon collected when their NSO expired.
5- It's a big anniversary of Pokemon so this feels more collectable and marketable also amefreak may have been unwilling to take a simply fee for it being on NSO.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations

Roibeard64

It's a solid game but it hooked me less than mario kart did. I think it's the weapons and tracks just aren't as much fun for me.

Also I wish it went more in the direction of all stars with lots of sega franchises being represented Instead it's like 95% sinic characters which frankly is much less unique.

Plus all their dlc stuff was a bit off putting.

Re: GameStop Kicks Off 2026 By Reportedly Shutting "Hundreds" Of Stores

Roibeard64

Brick and mortar video game chain stores are going be gone soon.

Its only tech shops, toy shops and few independent specialists stores only now in my country that physically sell games in stores. Game closed decades ago, gamestop also closed like 4 years ago and all the other smaller franchises were eaten by Gamestop.

There's still some cool retro game stores but I'm gone from 10 options on where to buy a new game in store to one solid choice and 2 they might have latest releases only for like a month or two stores.
