Nintendo is pretty good for backwards compatibility particularly with its portable hardware.

Wii played Gamecube and wii u played Wii too so definitely was expecting unless switch 2 turned out to be something completely different, I dunno like an Oculus

Probably dipped because the Switch 2 doesn't travel through time or whatever unrealistic nonsense they thought it could possibly do before it was revealed

Switch 2 is a bit of a boring name but it's very clear name, nintendo obviously learned from the Wii U.

@stephanxliko could be because Ireland is in the EU but not part of the Schemgen area. UK is of course not in EU anymore so could be the logistics of supplying a non schengan country and a non EU country.

Plus there's no actual specialist games stores left in Ireland to supply. Game left ages ago and Gamespot left more recently. Smyths toys is basically the biggest game store" now. Some other electronics places do games but very limited selections

Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey, Smash bros ulimate and Fire emblem three houses are definite switch games for me

@Steel76 definitely those giant boxes were things of beauty. After that pc games in cd and dvd cases only looked awful in comparison

Games will be all digital sooner or later. My bet is one more console generation and physical games won't be a thing. There's only like 3 stores [2 of which have very limited selections) and amazon I can go to for physical games.

It's a shame but there's some perks to digital games too.
-Generally available for longer
-Sale reductions tend to be far better throughout the year
-they require huge physical storage space
-disc or cart can't be broken or lost
-ease of access to play.

Bad side is the online stores would be a monopoly, prices don't reflect as much as a saving as they should need for more memory , no second hand marker and big one is if the ecosystem goes down .

In fairness every time I go to the cinema these days even on a recently released film the screening is only about 40% full. Doesn't make sense to keep in cinemas only now for too long

I think people saying you will never stop all pirates so why try are missing the point.
Nintendo has to come down hard on the big ones that actually cost it sales.
These are the ones that break the unwritten rules, of course Nintendo don't come after everyone that emulates a Snes game but providing access or tools for free switch games costs Nintendo. Another rule seems to be if you charge money then Nintendo comes after you.

As a company they have to protect their products and also their ip otherwise they potentially could lose some of it.

There's no real harm in owning a copy of a game and using a rom to play it in better performance but that's not what's going be the majority. If new Nintendo games are available for free people will stop buying them.

The some of these would never buy arguments are silly too. Nintendo not a charity or a right. It devalues their games and leads to others purchasers going so why am I paying so if its so easy to pirate it.

Palworld is a big ripoff so I've no sympathy for them and they are backed by Sony.

I honestly think it's a lawsuit to stop Sony having a pokemon rip off .

I assume holding off firstly for when theres no big pokemon release coming up and secondly because the second they release a proper pokemon game on NSO people will want it to be compatible with both stadiums but also Scarlet and Violet (or whatevers newest switch game before it) etc so they can move pokemon to newest games.

They would be alot better off trying to bring Gamepass to Switch 2 then making their own

I believe the Switch is slightly cheaper here now than on launch but theres also now alot of decent bundle offers.

The other two consoles have gone up by cost of a brand new switch game since their launch and decent bundles are rare and often time limited.

So I don't see a cut beyond the November sales offer until switch 2 is on shelves.

Why would this Legal analyst have access to the submissions of both sides to the court. I suspect there's alot of guess work and assumptions doing the heavy lifting in his article.

Cool I'm always in favour of backwards compatibility myself although people here always overhyped it's importance saying it's essential etc for the success of the new console however it actually never is as only a small fraction ever use it when you look into stats on it, plus ps4 sales weren't damaged by it's lack of it.

Its always a nice bonus for us with big backlogs.

Yeah a game that makes its money on random packs being bought is going to have sure fire way to ensure you get better cards.......sure that makes sense....its all just random they have the stats or the rates right there if you want to see them.

Most remsining Wii U exclusives aren't likely to leave the console. I love Nintendo and Game & Wario but they seem too Wii U based to be ported easily. (Putting aside Zelda games that will be back at some time)

Starfox zero could still be ported minus the unusual controls . I'd love Nes remix to make it's way to switch from Wii U/3ds same as pullblox/pushimo.

Likes of Smash for Wii U, Paper Mario, Mario party, tennis, Sonic and Mario and Splatoon aren't likely getting Switch ports as have sequels out.

Seems Switch has just about entirely consumed the best parts of wii us library.

You give up hope and then 10 months later out of the blue nintendo surprise you.

I stopped buying Sonic games near launch after Sonic team Racing. Give it a month or so and its at least 40% off.

Maybe they will be adding Virtual Boy, DS and 64DD titles.

Though my monies on Gamecube with that test yoke and the leak about them doing something
with Gamecube controllers.

Be interested to see if can work out how to do DS games with one screen. Maybe a way to link to switchs together with a huge joycon.

Havnt really seen anything past Shinobi 3 and the comic strip it had in Sonic the Comic.

Sega really should do better re releasing collections that aren't just the sane 30 megadrive games.

I've played a fair number of Shinobi games.
Can't say I remember a plot sonmething about evil devil techno ninjas I dunno.
I couldn't tell you if was Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi's plot I'm half remembering.
Great games though but not sure much film potential, for 90% of people it will just be a generic ninja.

The next big announcement (outside of films or museums or theme parks) must be Switch 2.

Question is if they reveal it too soon will the last Xmas for the Switch be sabotaged.

God knows the Wii U was so deep in the hole at that point it didn't matter.

I don't get people complaining that Nintendo has too many lawsuits lately, like theres clearly a connection between the popularity of the Switch and the rise in alleged privacy etc for the Switch ..... ike remember all the Wii U law suits...nope, me neither.

Its always been a great bombastic action game particularly with Co-op.

As a main line resident evil game however its just extactly what you don't want it to be.

Nintendo lawyers have put together an argument over the last few years that centres on encryption codes and DMCA's provisions against bypassing DRM.

The argument as far as I'm aware hasn't come before a court yet and so nintendo potentially could be successful if a case ever goes before a judge. All the emulators nintendo have gone after have chosen to settle outside of court rather than having to argue in court.

Makes no difference really a different term like access and that's it. How about actually giving some actual rights, like a minimum licence term, if a paid game goes free to play wshould be refunds for recent purchasess at least etc

@Pillowpants totally agree there, I intially checked them out hoping for a bit of a behind the curtain reveal myself and just found it to be generic heard it all before a million times milk toast stuff.

I'm amazed how many people have opinions on patent infringement without knowing anything over the claim. Like Nintendo aren't saying because its the subject of an ongoing legal dispute.
It could be that Palworld is completely innocent or they could be extremely guilty of infringement.
It's interesting Nintendo spent months obviously looking into it and they must think they found something there.
You'd think if just trying to Bury Palworld would have taken a case when it was popular and new.

I paid 500 euro for my ps5 back in early 2021 .
Has disk drive and stand.

Now in 2024 a pro with all that costs me like 930 euro. Just looked up slims disk drive and its 99.99 and stand 29.99.

Could even be a different disk drive that's more pricey for pro but I don't think so.

Controllers had a sneaky price increase too thos week.

Also ps5 game that's been out close to a year is often less pricey physically. The psn store unless its on sale its massively overpriced

There's alot of people that spend their time complaining Nintendo does nothing except Mario, Zelda and Pokemon.

"Why wont they show love for other series."
Then when nintendo releases likes of Another Code, endless ocean, famicom detective club and advance wars etc they dont buy them and complain they instead wanted Star Fox etc.

Fire Emblem went from almost being cancelled entirely to a big deal for Nintendo. Now its successful people complain it gets too much focus.

I love advance wars but I'd prefer they remake Golden Sun or Warioland. If given another chance

Like there's nothing special about the games themselves they are standard retail ones, he wasn't employed by nintendo until December 2003. Leave the man to enjoy them himself

Gameplay and game design matter so much more..

Sure there some games where voice acting is more important than in others eg the last of us vs Mario, but its not like anyone was buying MGS for her as Naomi.

Basically she wants to be paid like actors are for big films but unlike say RDJ as iron man it's not a selling point to say Jennifer Halle voices a character In this game.⁹

Also soundtracks are not voice acting no matter how awesome they are.

I agree with her on AI shouldn't sample voices actors to replace them.

I think however she completely overestimates the value of voice acting in the media that is video games.

Like metal gear solid didn't sell that amount due to her voicing naomi for the equivalent
of usd 2,500 today for one of her first jobs.

Like if progammers and development staff aren't getting royalties and they spend way more time and effort making the game a success. Then no way the voice actor in one language is getting them unless they are a massive star that the inclusion of their voice alone will shift way more units.

I wish Nintendo of Europe would get themselves into gear. Always feel they are practically invisible compared to Japan and US.

@Astropez exclusivity deals have always happened in the video game industry and Nintendo were once the kings of it when they had almosttotal market dominance.

Sega consoles died because of poor management decisions. 3rd parties went where the biggest install bases were.

Resident evil and Tomb Raider were on Saturn so wasnt like sony had everything locked up in deals.

Theres no reson for third parties to keep putting out games on failing systems. Sega was a sinking ship and everybody knew it.
Retailers often didn't bother to stock Saturn's I'm Europe.
Playstations only real competition was the N64 and that was always far behind it in sales.

You give Sony way to much credit for Segas largely self inflicted demise as a console maker.

The various add ons to the megadrive/gensis. Getting too costly too confusing and cannibalising it's own retail shelf space.
Burning fans that bought a 32x.
A disaster of a surprise early Saturn launch that burnt bridges with retailers and developers
The satarns price point.
The notoriously difficult to develop for console.
Sega Japan and Americas infighting.
No sonic game. Abandoning the Saturn and having about a year with no games at all.
That left lots of die hard sega fans been left feeling they had been cheated.
People remember the Dreamcast with nostalgia now. At the time of launch it was looks cool but not buying it for them to abandon it in 2 years when Ps2 arrives.

Obviously going to be adverts if no subscription fee otherwise they would shut up shop too, no one makes any entertainment product for free, always something they are getting out of it.

Pokemon tv must have been designed to get more fans into the series so would buy more products. Someone made a call that it wasn't worth the cost of upkeeping it (although it was very strange what seasons were on it, I suspect ones without exclusive streaming rights deals at the time).

Ps4 was 400 euro here and ps5 500 at launch (it actually increased since to 550).switch is 300 oled 365. Its going be between 400-500 unless vry high specs
