Re: Switch Online's Expansion Pack Promises "Excitement" In 2025

Roibeard64

Maybe they will be adding Virtual Boy, DS and 64DD titles.

Though my monies on Gamecube with that test yoke and the leak about them doing something
with Gamecube controllers.

Be interested to see if can work out how to do DS games with one screen. Maybe a way to link to switchs together with a huge joycon.

Re: Sega And Universal Announce 'Shinobi' Movie

Roibeard64

@Samalik didn't even know it had 3d games.
Havnt really seen anything past Shinobi 3 and the comic strip it had in Sonic the Comic.

Sega really should do better re releasing collections that aren't just the sane 30 megadrive games.

Re: Sega And Universal Announce 'Shinobi' Movie

Roibeard64

I've played a fair number of Shinobi games.
Can't say I remember a plot sonmething about evil devil techno ninjas I dunno.
I couldn't tell you if was Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi's plot I'm half remembering.
Great games though but not sure much film potential, for 90% of people it will just be a generic ninja.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

Roibeard64

Nintendo lawyers have put together an argument over the last few years that centres on encryption codes and DMCA's provisions against bypassing DRM.

The argument as far as I'm aware hasn't come before a court yet and so nintendo potentially could be successful if a case ever goes before a judge. All the emulators nintendo have gone after have chosen to settle outside of court rather than having to argue in court.

Re: Nintendo And Pokémon File Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer Pocketpair

Roibeard64

I'm amazed how many people have opinions on patent infringement without knowing anything over the claim. Like Nintendo aren't saying because its the subject of an ongoing legal dispute.
It could be that Palworld is completely innocent or they could be extremely guilty of infringement.
It's interesting Nintendo spent months obviously looking into it and they must think they found something there.
You'd think if just trying to Bury Palworld would have taken a case when it was popular and new.

Re: Soapbox: Sony's Insane PS5 Pro Price Highlights The Delicate Balance Nintendo Must Strike With 'Switch 2'

Roibeard64

Without a disk drive or vertical stand.
I paid 500 euro for my ps5 back in early 2021 .
Has disk drive and stand.

Now in 2024 a pro with all that costs me like 930 euro. Just looked up slims disk drive and its 99.99 and stand 29.99.

Could even be a different disk drive that's more pricey for pro but I don't think so.

Controllers had a sneaky price increase too thos week.

Also ps5 game that's been out close to a year is often less pricey physically. The psn store unless its on sale its massively overpriced

Re: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Dev Reveals Nintendo Partnership Was Years In The Making

Roibeard64

@martynstuff
There's alot of people that spend their time complaining Nintendo does nothing except Mario, Zelda and Pokemon.

"Why wont they show love for other series."
Then when nintendo releases likes of Another Code, endless ocean, famicom detective club and advance wars etc they dont buy them and complain they instead wanted Star Fox etc.

Fire Emblem went from almost being cancelled entirely to a big deal for Nintendo. Now its successful people complain it gets too much focus.

Re: Bayonetta Star Jennifer Hale On The SAG-AFTRA Strikes: "AI Is Coming For Us All"

Roibeard64

@Arehexes it's not as important though as a film or audiobook or anime where the performance is the main event.

Gameplay and game design matter so much more..

Sure there some games where voice acting is more important than in others eg the last of us vs Mario, but its not like anyone was buying MGS for her as Naomi.

Basically she wants to be paid like actors are for big films but unlike say RDJ as iron man it's not a selling point to say Jennifer Halle voices a character In this game.⁹

Also soundtracks are not voice acting no matter how awesome they are.

Hale is over inflating her importance here

Re: Bayonetta Star Jennifer Hale On The SAG-AFTRA Strikes: "AI Is Coming For Us All"

Roibeard64

I agree with her on AI shouldn't sample voices actors to replace them.

I think however she completely overestimates the value of voice acting in the media that is video games.

Like metal gear solid didn't sell that amount due to her voicing naomi for the equivalent
of usd 2,500 today for one of her first jobs.

Like if progammers and development staff aren't getting royalties and they spend way more time and effort making the game a success. Then no way the voice actor in one language is getting them unless they are a massive star that the inclusion of their voice alone will shift way more units.

Re: Random: Former Nintendo Boss Reggie Fils-Aimé Rediscovers His N64 Collection

Roibeard64

@Astropez exclusivity deals have always happened in the video game industry and Nintendo were once the kings of it when they had almosttotal market dominance.

Sega consoles died because of poor management decisions. 3rd parties went where the biggest install bases were.

Resident evil and Tomb Raider were on Saturn so wasnt like sony had everything locked up in deals.
.
Theres no reson for third parties to keep putting out games on failing systems. Sega was a sinking ship and everybody knew it.
Retailers often didn't bother to stock Saturn's I'm Europe.
Playstations only real competition was the N64 and that was always far behind it in sales.

You give Sony way to much credit for Segas largely self inflicted demise as a console maker.

Re: Random: Former Nintendo Boss Reggie Fils-Aimé Rediscovers His N64 Collection

Roibeard64

@Astropez Sega needed no outside help destroying it's console manufacturing.
The various add ons to the megadrive/gensis. Getting too costly too confusing and cannibalising it's own retail shelf space.
Burning fans that bought a 32x.
A disaster of a surprise early Saturn launch that burnt bridges with retailers and developers
The satarns price point.
The notoriously difficult to develop for console.
Sega Japan and Americas infighting.
No sonic game. Abandoning the Saturn and having about a year with no games at all.
That left lots of die hard sega fans been left feeling they had been cheated.
People remember the Dreamcast with nostalgia now. At the time of launch it was looks cool but not buying it for them to abandon it in 2 years when Ps2 arrives.

Re: Pokémon Partners With WildBrain To Stream First 22 Anime Seasons

Roibeard64

Never heard of it wonder if it exists in Europe.

Obviously going to be adverts if no subscription fee otherwise they would shut up shop too, no one makes any entertainment product for free, always something they are getting out of it.

Pokemon tv must have been designed to get more fans into the series so would buy more products. Someone made a call that it wasn't worth the cost of upkeeping it (although it was very strange what seasons were on it, I suspect ones without exclusive streaming rights deals at the time).

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Hit 143 Million As Hardware And Software Figures Decline

Roibeard64

@G_and_Thomas if you are going quote me quote what I actually said which was best selling console.

Also what do you mean even Sony cares about profits of course they do its all they care about same with Microsoft. I never mentioned Sony so no idea why you came to the conclusion I was saying only nintendo cares about profits. If its not a charity its what every company cares about.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Announced - Story Expansion, New Fighters And "Big Surprises"

Roibeard64

If I play a game and really enjoyed it but wanted more in the past it was like this oh maybe it will sell enough for a sequel to come out in 3-5 years.

DLC allows us now go great I enjoyed that game and theres now an option to get another slice of that enjoyment without necceseraily waiting years for a sequel if i really want it. It also keeps developers in work and teams intact between the main releases and helps ensure companies greenlight the sequel if demand was there for dlc.

You of course i judge each individual DLC offering on its own merit including value vs cost of course before deciding to buy it or not.

The market simply isn't the same as was in 90s or 2000s. If a company can't use dlc to cover the additional development time and cost they are just going release base game and that's it or they will go to microtransactions.

If you dont like DLC and will never pay for same thats entirely your call but games arent incomplete without the dlc (barring some shady pratices from bad actors eg characters being on the disk from day one needing a code to unlock).

The base game is the main course and dlc is an optional dessert or as splatoon puts it a side order.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 'Year 2' Panel Announced - Story Expansion, New Fighters And "Big Surprises"

Roibeard64

@SillyG what are you asking for here a smash bros ulimate version 2 physical release a year later with piranha plant to byleth included and a final version Ulimate Ulimate released a year after that with fighter pack 2s characters ending in Sora?

So you could pay full game price three times total?

If anything smash brothers did dlc correctly.
1-it was developed after the initial game, there wasn't Sora sitting on the cart waiting for a code to unlock him etc
2-its entirely optional, no true endings or massive online advantages were locked behind DLC
3-it offered season passes or individual purchases. If you weren't interested in sone characters no need to actually buy them, though obviously pass saved some money.
4-it kept the game relevant and popular.
5- the price isn't as bad as you think it is.
Dlc is always more expensive as has to cover additional ongoing development.
Here it's 6 euro for a challenger pack there's plenty of games looking for that price or more for a handful of cutfits/skins or ingame currency or early unlock of a particular weapon or mode etc.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 'Year 2' Panel Announced - Story Expansion, New Fighters And "Big Surprises"

Roibeard64

@littlegreenbob nah those street fighter 2 different editions came out every year and one less than a year. You got burnt if you bought one only for a much better version to release shortly after. The option was stick with what you had or fork over full price for updates, balances even the ability to both play ss the same characters and sometimes a few extra characters.

It was a much worse situation

Re: Capcom Currently Has No Plans To End Physical Game Support

Roibeard64

@CammyUnofficial I think they have gone down that route of being a niche market for collecters , particularly 4k and blu ray.

There's certain films I basically rebuy once formats changes eg Vhs-DVD - Blu ray-4k
However I've noticed I don't own any separate players anymore. Once consoles ditch a disk drive physical films will suffer.

Re: Capcom Currently Has No Plans To End Physical Game Support

Roibeard64

@SillyG look I don't extactly trust ign tbh to get everything right but it at least shows were the money in the industry Is coming for. Yes the cheap games that will never get a physical release tilt the scales of the overall picture but most gamers I know are now fully digital.

I do an 80/20 split myself in favour of physical for the Switch. For other consoles you can flip those numbers.

Thinking about it one of the reasons I'm not as into physical on xbox or playstation is that their digital shops have sales that often see big games like resident evil 4 remake reduced for well below cost in shops , often about 2 months after launching. Switch games can be cheaper in shops on release and later cheaper in shops even with sale in eshop. The eshop doesn't do the same level of discounts generally.

Re: Capcom Currently Has No Plans To End Physical Game Support

Roibeard64

@Pabpictu extactly this, there a tendency to blame the companies but the majority of consumers are going digital. So it's only a matter of time before they all start one by one deciding physical is no longer worth the cost of producing.

IGN had a report that 90% of game sales last year in the UK were digital.

Push Square reported that only 4% of overall sales for Sonys Q2 for 2023 were physical with 21% of sales being digital.. this breaks down to games sales overal being 67% digital and 33% physical.

Convenience is killing off physical games more than any big push from gaming companies.
I don't want it to happen but I can't see it going any other way, same with dvds and blu rays.
