It's sad the eshops are closing. Yes I wish I could access it indefinitely or better still have all my vc games transfer to switch (particularly anything without a dual screen or wii remote as I can see they would need extra work to be playable) Those 13 million wii us ain't going last forever though. Eventually broken or mostly forgotten. Way more 3ds family systems out there but think the sad fact is most people just move on . I'd love to see actually eshop figures pre this announcement to see what percentage is using it.
I don't think this is good news but some very over the top reactions there.
I remember when this happened for Wii. I bought last few games I wanted but some stuff had quietly been delisted over the years from non nintendo, so seemed it was quietly dying for years.
When Sony did same with horribly short warning for its older systems I bought loads of PS3 games. They backtracked but still killed the psp store I believe. Now I don't think in all honesty I've played any of those ps3 downloads once since.
Microsoft do it much better but still few things that can't leave my 360 cause never supported them.
Course Steam is the gold standard but that's accross any kind of computer not one specific gaming device
@EightyTwoStu the May seems to be for credit cards , which are already gone from Europe as an option on 3ds and Wii U already few years ago. Eshop cards are still arround both physically and digitally they work for switch too. I believe you can top up on nintendo website but I just top up on my linked switch.
With all the different versions like MK3 then Ulimate MK3 then MK Trilogy. The insane amount of street fighter 2s and the likes of the 3 Alpha games. So It's really impressive Smash with just 6 games (wii & 3ds being "sash 4") is outselling most of them and gaining.
Ideally I'd like to see them buy Sega to open up their ips. Smaller scale id say platinum games so they continue to make switch games plus nintendo would have a more mature games focused studio then.
The wii u had alot of problem but I'll say this I've had a PS5 for a good while now about 10 months. I've barely turned the thing on to play games (excluding watching netflix on it etc) I don't actually have a single ps5 game, just played some ps4 titles on it.
In comparison in the first year I played alot of my wii U and of course been playing switch alot. There's a real lack of games made for the ps5 a year on particularly when you have access to Xbox game pass in competition. (Also cross generational games I keep seeing the ps5 version of a game at release getting an extra up to 20 quid slapped on it over ps4 version whereas xbox its just one version, usually at ps4 price.)
Few more nintendo crossover courses, zelda, pikmin, f zero, metroid and kirby be nice maybe also a cup fully of courses based on more obsure nintendo franchises such as chibi robo , doshin the giant, The Mysterious Murasame Castle and startropics etc be nice cameos.
It would be nice though to get some dlc for mario kart 8 for those of us who have had it since wii u/ early days of switch. A few more tracks would be an appreciated reason to go back to it.
It's cancelled now as their manufacturing partner had problems and they couldn't guarantee they would met the december 2022 goal for delivery. So they decided to cancel the kick-starterfor now while they seek other options.
Been a thing in Europe for years, the systems weren't designed with two step verification requirements which have become the norm and probablywasn't worth the cost of fixing the issue when weighed up against sales. Shops still on both I just add any funds on Switch and use those , think you can top up online on Nintendo ID but I never bother as Switch is quick and easy
Just as it gets reduced in xbox and ps black Friday sales. Multi platform switch version delays of games definitely put me off the switch version for this reason. Either I can't wait or by time it's on switch other versions are getting the price reduced. So it's now really only a question of would I play it docked or portable to decide if I wait or pick up on other console
Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and Steam etc should get together and set some kinda rules that you treat your staff with basic human rights and dignity standard or your games get pulled from our stores.
Too much bad practices from likes of crunch to horrible things like in this case
So one wanted to ditch it to make the console more masculine apparently another wanted it not to stand out from its competitors by blending in and the last chap thinks they should have focused on children and under 15s.
I'm very glad Nintendo Japan obviously didn't listen to any of them.
The problems I have with it are firstly NSO is the online service, which it doesn't do great, poor connections and tbh I don't use it much at all unlike psn or gold. The werid lack of a workable voice chat etc is glaring.
So atm I'm basically playing for the netflix style Nes and Snes games. Which have very slow add decent new games. Like how are Earthbound and Mario RPG still absent.
But at the price point I'm happy to say internetplay OK not perfect but you get what you pay for and mainly here for games , I'll take that
Problem I have with expansion is no indication online service is improving. I've no real interest anymore in animal crossing NH . Megadrive games are in bundles, minis etc I already own plus bit sick of alot of them at this point.
So do I pay double just for n64 games? (if they had some gba and gamecube sure it pay 50-60 for a proper nintendo style netflix)
At the increased pricing it's now near Psn and Golds costs. So comparisons are valid. Trese have better connections, voice chat etc, 3 free games a month ( although 2 often aren't great) and also a few discounts, ps collection games on ps5 etc. Gamepass is way more expensive but you get alot from it that mages it worth the money.
The question really is not if 40 is too much for a service it's is this service worth 40 and it's hard
It's too much of an increase at this stage I'm only interested in the n64 games and I don't think it's worth them alone until its a bigger library. I've got n64 carts, 3ds remakes and VC on wii/wii u so.
I really dislike how now they go okay release 1to 3 new ones and have them everywhere for a week Miss the days of bam here's most of GEN 2 in the wild go find them
Those 9 launch games would be 90 on wii u VC (if all on it) so 10-12 a year seems reasonable plus the mega drive games (yes yes they been released hundreds of times I think as them more as a bonus here)
Played this at the weekend and it's not worth it's current price at all, feels rushed, bare bones and just plain unfinished
Music is terrible, the no voices or even grunts off characters is werid , no items and some levels kill you more than the other players do.
Needed more development or it needs a cheaper price
I'm not mad into Sora myself personally or KH but the winner of the Smash Ballot joining as the last character is a very nice touch. Presumably they couldn't work it out back then but kept at it.
Banjo and win back have me most excited as they hint towards the service having more than the usual n64 hits rolled out on VC.
Like might now see the likes of Jetforce gemni, perfect dark, Rogue Squadron, Turok etc
Other lesser available games that nintendo don't own out right that havnt left the n64.
I think if it's primarily designed for playing multiple games and isn't a PC, it's a console. Of course handhelds like gameboy, psp and ds are consoles. Cant see why wouldn't be. Those old tiger handheld games would be where a draw the line personally myself really. The game and watch is more a game than a console to me as it doesn't play more than its 1 to 3 games. Mini consoles are plug and play about 20 plus games, so I'd count them whereas things that play only a single game like those joystick plug and plays i wouldn't call a console. Granted the line gets a bit arbitrary. You can argue all are consoles but in my head it needs to play a few things and it has a stronger case if it has the likes of carts or cds or an eshop for games.
This is insane like no game is worth these prices. Its a common game that was mass produced in 90s, like new condition or not shouldn't be this price at all. Seems very sus
Think he'd be too disappointing now as the final dlc character. Like as would any nee mario character or a character whose series is already represented. I'd like it to go out with a bang which waluigi just isn't for me.
Got n64 and dreamcast controllers from same crowd but this Lost me on the stick placement. It's just not a proper gamecube with them there, looks like ps controller with gamecube buttons only
Yeah we in Europe often get shafted by the consoles price being directly converted from usd price 1 to 1. Plus games are way more expensive and always have been. Like average new switch game is equivalent of 65- 71 dollars . An upcoming ps5 game is like 95 dollars
Would it be nice to have easy cheap legal way to access to all games ever sure. Is it feasible not really. Rights expiry, some games aren't profitable and others aren't good enough to bother. Companies don't have to do anything like that's silly trying to make it a responsibility or right. It would be nice if the big 3 made better efforts though but then retro gaming isn't for the mass market and profit drives all companies. Are collectors ruining it well like they are one preserving games that probably be binned if no one did . If they were incredible cheap wouldn't have much people or stores selling them. Evaluation and roms are options I'm not going judge people for using them, like it's way more feasible and I'm not going scream at companies taking down as they are the rights holders. It's just the dance that is emulation.
It's silly look pokemon has gambling it's potentially teaching kids how with fake money for in game prizes like a bowling alley arcade ticket set up. 18+
Lootboxes and likes actually tricking kids into gambling with real money for skins etc nah that's cool no problems here.
@Carck well if you're happy for sega to keep making sonic games that get review scores of between 40-60% than actually learn from past mistakes cool. But sad fact is that the majority of Sonic games are now rubbish. Hence the delisting of many of them
@RupeeClock hoping for that. Just they have a bad track record of just releasing same mega drive ports rather than properly remastering them. Plus often it's missing sonic 3 which is a pain. (I know the reasons but it's still annoying)

@Carck what I mean is sonic forces is the kind of mediocre to extremely bad 3d Sonic games Sega makes mistakes over and over again. Whereas a team of passionate sonic fans actually made something decent that people enjoy. Sega has given us sonic 06, unleashed, black Knight, lost world, colours and boom (through another studio) They seem incapable of sticking with a formula and improving it, it's has to be big, 3D and with somekinda half baked gimmick. Every step in a decent direction like colours or generations is undone by next game. Mania is actually a decent game. Shows Sega don't know how to make Sonic work themselves since Dreamcast days.
This was the answer to where sonic games should go. Instead we got forces and now colours and another big 3d attempt in the works. Sega seem incapable of making good decisions for Sonic. Still havnt released the best versions of CD etc on consoles
I hate when this happens now its do I wait or go other console. Whereas my 1st preference is switch the delay is a big factor.
Often means by the time it releases other consoles have it on sale or cheaper and better looking.
Not portable of course but that might not matter on a game by game basis for me
Usual nonsense scapegoating. Are people addicted to screens yeah probably these days in general way too much screen time as I look at my small portable screen as I type but why pretend gaming's evil.
I never got the argument it's more addictive or somehow more dangerous then tv is
Everything in reasonable amounts is fine but they would rather make wild claims about that insidious gaming (probably never played anything)
On one hand I love physical media with the feeling of having something in your hand. On the other hand there's books , games sitting about taking up space I don't have in the apartment. When I think about last time I read or listened to them I kinda wish I could trade them for ebooks etc. Though I do like collecting things. I've stopped buying physical books, cos, dvds ,blue rays for space reasons. Games are my last bastion and even then I'm buying some digital
