Re: Ubisoft's Cancelled 'Immortals 2' Project Reportedly Took Inspiration From Elden Ring

MrGawain

The first game was okay, just uninspired aside from the part inspired by tears of the kingdom. In general most of their stuff is built relatively solid now with few glitches and lots of content, but it all feels Very safe and familiar.

I get the feeling Ubisoft themselves don’t think their games are good enough and that’s why they drop their prices less than a month after release.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario

MrGawain

I wonder if this implies going forward Mario will be speaking more, or at least different things- perhaps in a Mario movie style.

I really don’t see why Ninty would need to do this if the next Mario game was ‘yah/hah/woohoo/oh no/I got it/Mario time’ as usual.

Re: Geoff Keighley: This Year's Gamescom ONL Is "Less About Announcing Brand New Projects"

MrGawain

Let’s be honest, triple A game development has been slowing down since the release of the XBX and the PS5. Making the graphics twice as detailed means twice the time to make it in, and costs have spiralled out of control meaning there’s less games being greenlit. I’m also not convinced games are better because of this, and rushing them makes them worse. At the moment there is very little to talk about.

The games justify the media coverage, the media coverage doesn’t justify the games.

Re: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Delayed To 2024

MrGawain

I love the Suikoden series, and I really want to play this.

However if I had contributed to the Kickstarter for this I would be slightly peeved this game has been delayed so many times when they had enough budget to make a prequel game on top.

Re: Final Fantasy Franchise Has Sold Over 180 Million Copies

@johnedwin

I have a PS5, but at the moment there isn’t any games that interest me- not many Japanese games and those that there are seem to be trying to ape grizzled grey American games. I’m very disappointed by the shift in styles of the sort of games on the PS5 so far.

Re: The FTC Doesn't Seem To Think Switch Is A Serious PlayStation & Xbox Competitor

MrGawain

I think the differences between the Switch and the other two are more philosophical than technical. Microsoft seem to be after buying up every major FPS developer and publisher at the moment, which doesn’t really affect the Switch gaming library, but will eventually create a stranglehold on the online gaming space.

I don’t think the Xbox takeover strategy is about buying every big game in existence, but creating a monopoly of online, live service and streaming games which is where a lot of the real money is.

Re: Expect More Open-World Zelda Games Going Forwards, Suggests Eiji Aonuma

MrGawain

Ocarina, Majora Wind Waker, Twilight P and Skyward Sword obviously all had the same skeleton behind them, so you would think they want about 5 games out of the BOTW formula. The trick will be deviating enough on the formula after making a game where you can do anything. I wonder if you could have a game where it’s set in a complete town that you can’t leave but can go everywhere in the town.

I also think we will still get top down 2D Zelda’s every other game.

Re: Nintendo's Official Podcast Just Aired Its "Last Episode"

MrGawain

At the end of the day it’s an advert from Nintendo. Usually they would release one every month to talk about the game that was releasing that month. It definitely feels we’re getting less games for the end of the life of the Switch, so I would guess they haven’t got much to talk about for a while.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nintendo launch something new, probably an on camera thing when the successor launches.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Upcoming Switch Games, And It's Slim Pickings

MrGawain

Xbox and PlayStation will have a not E3 showcase in June promising a bunch of games for the next 2 years that will be delayed and won’t live up to the hype. Lots of cutscene trailers.

Nintendo will have a September Direct with a handful of titles for just before and after Christmas, but they will be solid stuff we’ll be fairly happy with and will come out when they say they will.

I know what I prefer.

Re: Talking Point: Why Are So Many Remasters Sub-Par At Launch?

MrGawain

I think it’s more about time. These games are farmed out to inexperienced developers who are told to hit a deadline where these games fit in to release schedules. With that mentality you don’t get good, you get good enough. It’s about getting product out to feed the nostalgia of the Uber fans who will buy it no matter what, so why delay it to improve it for other customers who likely won’t bother with a niche cult game?

It’s disappointing, but it’s also business.
