Wario will be harder to cast than Mario as Martinet has said more as Wario with more inflection and emotion than Mario’s quips. Wario has been pretty much narrating his own games. Luigi is somewhere between the two.
The first game was okay, just uninspired aside from the part inspired by tears of the kingdom. In general most of their stuff is built relatively solid now with few glitches and lots of content, but it all feels Very safe and familiar.
I get the feeling Ubisoft themselves don’t think their games are good enough and that’s why they drop their prices less than a month after release.
Doesn’t he have a podcast? I think it’s more likely to do with that instead of going to work for Nintendo and tell them how to get customers like XBox does.
Let’s be honest, triple A game development has been slowing down since the release of the XBX and the PS5. Making the graphics twice as detailed means twice the time to make it in, and costs have spiralled out of control meaning there’s less games being greenlit. I’m also not convinced games are better because of this, and rushing them makes them worse. At the moment there is very little to talk about.
The games justify the media coverage, the media coverage doesn’t justify the games.
I’ve been thinking about playing some of this again, and this has convinced me to play the PS4 versions I already have on disc that should hopefully run better than this.
It all comes down to if the Switch 2 will be able to play Switch games, and how long Nintendo continues to sell the Switch once the next thing comes out.
I love the Suikoden series, and I really want to play this.
However if I had contributed to the Kickstarter for this I would be slightly peeved this game has been delayed so many times when they had enough budget to make a prequel game on top.
I think this run of DLC has convinced me Mario Kart needs a TOTK style reinvention for the Switch sequel, and I don't just mean adding Kirby and Samus.
I'd like to see some long form tracks with some more hazards to avoid- think Marik Kart Cannonball Run.
It’s easy to think it’s about Call Of Duty, but I get the feeling Microsoft are trying to distract everyone with the fact it’s about online gaming and holding all the major live service cards.
I have a PS5, but at the moment there isn’t any games that interest me- not many Japanese games and those that there are seem to be trying to ape grizzled grey American games. I’m very disappointed by the shift in styles of the sort of games on the PS5 so far.
Undoubtedly it will garner more attention from the mainstream market now it isn’t an RPG, but I think I’m done with it. Plenty of other JRPG’s to play on the Switch.
Is it just me but have we seen an increase in licensed games recently? Disney, AEW, The Grinch, Transformers, Inspector Gadget, This… is there more than usual or is there just getting more press because there’s less original IP out there?
The reason Nintendo has developed such innovative games is because they build them for the console. Think about the camera control on the N64 or DS touchpad or the Wiimote or Labo. Without them the industry wouldn’t evolve, we would just get the same sorts of games all the time.
I think the differences between the Switch and the other two are more philosophical than technical. Microsoft seem to be after buying up every major FPS developer and publisher at the moment, which doesn’t really affect the Switch gaming library, but will eventually create a stranglehold on the online gaming space.
I don’t think the Xbox takeover strategy is about buying every big game in existence, but creating a monopoly of online, live service and streaming games which is where a lot of the real money is.
TOTK is the only game I’ve bought day one recently, everything else drops in price after a month or two these days. And seeing the amount of older titles in the top 40, I’m not the only person who does this.
It seems the jump to next gen and added expectations and costs have hit a lot of the industry. When problems arise they either release the game broken and lose the trust of the customer, or delay it and run over budget which upsets investors.
I really enjoyed W101 on the Wii U, the Switch version felt forced and didn’t control well. I find it strange they’ve released this so late but I’m happy to give it a go.
Ocarina, Majora Wind Waker, Twilight P and Skyward Sword obviously all had the same skeleton behind them, so you would think they want about 5 games out of the BOTW formula. The trick will be deviating enough on the formula after making a game where you can do anything. I wonder if you could have a game where it’s set in a complete town that you can’t leave but can go everywhere in the town.
I also think we will still get top down 2D Zelda’s every other game.
At the end of the day it’s an advert from Nintendo. Usually they would release one every month to talk about the game that was releasing that month. It definitely feels we’re getting less games for the end of the life of the Switch, so I would guess they haven’t got much to talk about for a while.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nintendo launch something new, probably an on camera thing when the successor launches.
Xbox and PlayStation will have a not E3 showcase in June promising a bunch of games for the next 2 years that will be delayed and won’t live up to the hype. Lots of cutscene trailers.
Nintendo will have a September Direct with a handful of titles for just before and after Christmas, but they will be solid stuff we’ll be fairly happy with and will come out when they say they will.
I’m not sure if it’s technically still an indie, but I do wonder if Eiyuden Chronicle will ever be released? I was interested in Se Of Stars but then I played the demo and now I can’t care less. I’ve found a lot of recent indie games to be unremarkable and visually generic amongst each other.
I’m guessing Ninty had money pencilled in the budget for E3 at the beginning of the year before they decided to skip it, and have just used some of it on this.
I wouldn’t be surprised an East Coast event will also pop up.
There’s been a lot of Tactical RPGs recently- Fire Emblem, Mario and Rabbids, Tactics Ogre, even Triangle Strategy. This and the game got put up £15 has made it less essential for me.
For me I was really excited for Sea Of Stars, but after playing the demo I’ve lost my interest in it. It felt perfunctory and didn’t have the magic of the games it was emulating.
I think it’s more about time. These games are farmed out to inexperienced developers who are told to hit a deadline where these games fit in to release schedules. With that mentality you don’t get good, you get good enough. It’s about getting product out to feed the nostalgia of the Uber fans who will buy it no matter what, so why delay it to improve it for other customers who likely won’t bother with a niche cult game?

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario
I wonder if this implies going forward Mario will be speaking more, or at least different things- perhaps in a Mario movie style.
I really don’t see why Ninty would need to do this if the next Mario game was ‘yah/hah/woohoo/oh no/I got it/Mario time’ as usual.

Of course we have to remember Nintendo games don’t count as competition to XBX and PS, so the top 40 is actually only a top 25.

And it’s a nightmare the money wasted by video game developers that exists outside logic.
It’s much cheaper to have your own ideas.
Re: Xbox Boss Says Call Of Duty Would Run "Relatively Great Compared To Other Switch Games"
Let’s be honest, unless it’s an exclusive like Smash, Splatoon, or Mario Kart, very few people play online games on the Switch.
Which is what Call Of Duty is all about.
