Re: "It's Truly Baffling" - Shigeru Miyamoto Comments On The Mario Galaxy Movie's Critical Reception

MrGawain

Mario is over 40 years old. Any fandom of something that’s lasted a long time will have a variety of generations that think it should be a certain way. Just look at Star Wars- does it grow up with it’s audience and become more violent and mature, or should it always be aimed at 8 years old olds?

Nintendo chose to make the Mario movies bright, colourful, fill of movement and empty of character depth and plot to aim it at younger fans. Short term with a 2 billion box office you can’t argue they were right, and are likely to be making new young customers who will be experiencing the games soon. But then if they’re not careful, they’re going to drive away fans that want a bit more depth. Hopefully Zelda will be that.

Re: Miyamoto Expected "Significant Resistance Internally" To Fox In The Mario Galaxy Movie

I’m of the opinion any film adaption of a beloved multiverse like Marvel, Star Trek or Nintendo has to traverse a line of adding fun stuff like easter eggs and guest characters, to over Easter egging the pudding. Stunt cameos are fun, but what really matters in any film is the core story. Having too many characters (especially in a kids film) belittles the main characters of the story.

In my opinion Star Fox was just added as a gimmick so they could say it was different to the first film and sell tickets.

Re: Nintendo Will "Carefully Consider" A Switch 2 Price Increase, Says Furukawa

I’m of the opinion that Google, Microsoft, Meta, Apple and alike are using AI as a smokescreen to change how we use computing. AI is far too expensive and resource intensive for the average person to access, but by forcing the prices of consumer electronics up will force everyone to use ‘the power of the cloud’ to do everyday things we use computers for now. We won’t be buying something with a processor in it like a laptop or a Switch 2, but subscribing to use a data centre for everything from gaming, film making, to using a calculator.

This was they make sure we pay every month, stop piracy, and can see everything we’re up to all the time. Imagine having an idea for a new tech and the only way to develop it would be to use Google’s processing power, and they could see what you were doing,

Re: "I'm Excited To Meet You" - Devon Pritchard Makes Her First Public Appearance As President Of NoA

To be fair to any of the foreign Nintendo heads, their success is 90% decided on the product Nintendo of Japan creates. The difference between Reggie and Bowser was Bowser didn’t need to be so visible in the time of the Switches’ success, whereas Reggie had to come on camera and explain the Wii, the DS, the Wii U, amiibo, and launch the Switch, because these products needed explaining.

It will be curious to see if Devon will have to launch any oddball stuff like Reggie did.

Re: The Live-Action Zelda Movie Is Coming To Netflix

This is what’s killing Cinemas. Where over a year away from it coming out at the pictures, and I now know not to bother because 3-6 months after I can just watch it on my telly for a fraction of what it would cost to go in a group of people.

That is bad promotion.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting The New Joy-Con 2 Set?

MrGawain

I’ve barely taken the joycon off my Switch. There was a moment I tried the mouse mode in Bravely Default, which was definitely another control scheme.

The colour isn’t really obvious, is it? I mean it’s still 98% black plastic.

Re: Netflix "Didn't Attribute Any Value" To Warner Bros. Games In Acquisition Deal

MrGawain

In reality, what are you really buying when you acquire a games studio? The IP is already owned by WB, there are no contracts for big marketable stars, the studios are just office space and tech aren’t really any different to another triple A studio. The people who work there that are the real talent who the product special can get up and leave when their contracts expire, and those that don’t bring a cost of wages, healthcare and pensions with them. All in a medium that Netflix really doesn’t understand, and has been shown to very expensive to produce and not necessarily profitable in the current market.

You can’t blame them for wanting to avoid video games when they are doing pretty well selling TV.
