Update [Fri 24th Feb, 2023 07:05 GMT]:
FromSoftware's epic Elden Ring dominated the awards and also took out the 2023 D.I.C.E. Game of the Year award. God of War: Ragnarok also picked up a lot of awards. On the Nintendo front, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was the only game to walk away with a win on the night - taking out "Family Game of the Year". Congratulations to the team behind this release!
Original [Fri 13th Jan, 2023 05:55 GMT]:
The D.I.C.E. Awards has revealed the nominations for its 26th annual event - with Nintendo titles being nominated in a number of categories.
PlatinumGames' title Bayonetta 3 is in the running for 'action game of the year'. It takes on Grounded, Neon White, Sifu and Vampire Survivors.
Kirby's Dream Buffet and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope are both in the family 'game of the year category'. Their competitors include Disney Dreamlight Valley, Lost in Play and Trombone Champ.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is featured in the role-playing game of the year category up against FromSoftware's Elden Ring and a list of other titles including Citizen Sleeper, Weird West and the new World of Warcraft expansion Dragonflight.
And Mario Strikers: Battle League has been nominated in the 'sports game of the year category' - taking on FIFA 23, MLB The Show 22, NBA 2K23 and OlliOlli World.
Last but definitely not least is the Game of the Year category. The line up here includes Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray and the indie hit Vampire Survivors. You can get the full rundown of all the nominees and categories on the official webpage. The winners will be revealed on 23rd February.

The audacity to nominate Kirby's Dream Buffet over Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Absolutely insane
@PikaPhantom Dunno why I went right to the comments first, thought you were just joking there...wtf? >.> lol
Bayonetta 3 for me. I will not vote I think but I support Bayonetta 3.
Game of the year? hmmm... I know it won't be Horizon.
What even is it with all these nominations. Xenoblade 3 is in the best RPG against Elden Ring (the rest has no chance against these 2) but in the main category Elden Ring is alone without Xenoblade 3, and is pretty much set for win (because none of the othe participants even come close to X3 and ER). Also, Nintendo games have almost 0 competition in other categories.
Why do these awards always make 0 sense?
Wow these are some wack nominations, dreams buffet, Really?
I like Bayo3's chances in the action category. That combat is so smooth.
@ComfyAko in the main category elden ring competition is god of war ragnarok.. these 2 games by far were the best games in 2022..
I've added Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator to my wishlist, I assume it will end up playing well on Switch when it is released.
I'm thinking about adding I Was a Teenage Exocolonist...
And I added Trombone Champ to my Steam wishlist.
@johnedwin Honestly, in my opinion, God of War isn't even in the same league as ER and XC3. Sure, it's nice, but it's not a masterpiece like those 2
@ComfyAko well you are wrong all the reviews and gameplay show it to be masterpiece..
@johnedwin I find reviews not convincing. Too many times I have seen mediocre, meek games getting goty awards, 10/10s in reviews and general praise, and mastepieces left with 7/10s because they weren't casualproof enough. I only trust my own reviews as I have seen too much in this industry to rely on others.
As soon as I saw Kirby's Dream Buffet in it's reveal I knew I would love it and it ended up being one of my favourite games of last year and of the Kirby series. I'm glad it's been nominated as it's a very refreshing game in the Kirby series.
Nintendo isn't winning any of these awards
It's weird how similar Is this to the Game Awards nominies, that including the nonsensical Family Game part (which here seems to be even worse) and including mostly movie-like Scores on the music category, but with the only difference being that they included substantially less Switch games overall than TGA, especially in the RPG category which on TGA was just Switch games and Elden Ring and here Is the total opposite. I wonder what's up with that.
At least they didn't include Sifu as a fighting game I guess.
IMO Stray should be subbed out for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in the GotY nominations. The former is a decent game, plus this is coming from someone who loves cats. But the latter blows it out of the water in many ways.
...Meh, who am I kidding. XC3 got snubbed in some of its categories in the TGAs (ESPECIALLY in music), so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised here. It's not "western" or "multiplatform" enough I guess.
Who nominated stray for goty? It’s a mediocre game with a cute premise. The award should go to the exceptional gamw sof the year Ragnarok, Xenoblade or Elden ring why waste a nomination on Stray?
@ComfyAko As someone who has played Ragnarok and xenoblade it is on the same level. Both games are some of the best written gaming experiences this year. Combine that some of gamings best characters and amazing combat you have 2 masterpieces
Love to see Stray get game of the year. Amazing game, very originally and well thought out. God of War is so overrated it's criminal. Elden Ring has a good chance tho, not my type of game but arguably the most impressive game of 2022.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Stray for GOTY isn't really that bad of a choice. It's got great graphics, both technically and regarding the art direction. When it comes to the storyline, it also deals with various serious issues with grace and style. It creates memorable characters that we actually care for. I agree that the game isn't in the same league as XC, though, and it's not a GOTY. It's a solid 9/10 from me, but it's just out of reach in terms of being a masterpiece.
My main issues with GOW games (the new ones) is that they seem simplistic, especially regarding the puzzles (that are spoiled by the characters, too). I've seen enough not to regard them as brilliant, or noteworthy. They seem flavourless, like most AAAs, aimed at the standard gamer. Maybe I'll change my mind someday, but for now, it's how I perceive it.
Vampire Survivors, Lost in Play, Elden Ring, OlliOlli. Not the best year for new, Nintendo exclusives.
I guess turn-based RPGs have fallen so much is popularity that Elden Ring and Xenoblade are in the same category. I feel like 20 years ago almost no one would have described Elden Ring as a traditional RPG. It'd be like asking "What is the better RPG, Final Fantasy VII or Diablo 2?"
@ComfyAko okay you do you. Opinions are opinions
Am I the only one who thinks Elden Ring is overrated? Probably. But it’s just another Souls game. It does it well but it’s not anything original
The GOTY that I really hate them.
Awards to market, not to point out what was actually best.
No xeno 3? Gotta be kidding
Mario + Rabbids sparks of hope is a gem on Switch that no surprise Nintendo fans choose to ignore for no good reason
Here are the winners you can play on Switch:
Really happy for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope along with Ubisoft guy. Hope he's as happy as he was during the reveal of the original.
